If you are looking for fun dont bother doing missions or mining for that matter.
The true meaning of fun in EVE is usually blowing the bejesus out of your enemies in the great wars that we constantly wage.
Missioning and mining != fun, ratting in 0.0 is at least semi fun cos you never know what is going to happend next.

If your idea of fun is button smashing, then no, eve is not fun. But there's 12 million MMOs that have button smashing, to kill the ebil bunnies of doom in their thousands, we really don't need that here.
Unless guristas = ebil bounnies of doom, then we need it...

Unfortunatly youve just described EVE to.
Replace mob with asteroid, npc pirate and braindead quest with mission. Any mmo is going to be grindy, its how they ensure you play for longer and hence pay for longer. Eve while not as grindy "Level" wise still requires you to grind for isk. Cant have fun in eve with no isks.

EVE definetly doesn't require you to grind for isk. There's a ton of options to make isk, and several include grind like activities, that's true. But there's other ways to make your isk.
And, and that's quite important IMHO, you really don't need that much isk, to have a helluvalot of fun playing this game. If you can shake the mindset that more expensive = better.

Isk is not needed for fun in this game, i have my best fun in my million-isk frigate than anything else i own, INCLUDING the full T2 navy megathron.
EVE is not wow, it should never even be compared, nothing should ever be mixed between the two. Ever. ______________________________ A Request About Lag Discussion |

if i compare WoW to EvE it would be like in WoW you have to take the Windrider/Gryphon to go anywhere, whati mean is you click i want to go here then spend 10 minutes watching your character do something, its unresponsive, if i had freedom of movement in eve it would make it so much better. to me it seems like jumpgates/auto pilot are the biggest mistake made for eve it takes so long to do a quest.
to give you an idea i started worlds collide about 45mins ago, since then i've watched an episode of mind of mencia and browsed the web for chinese food recipes...who would have thought im playing a game? can't wait for a new sci-fi mmo to come out, one where i actually get to control my character instead of f1-f7/watch tv.
and no, you can't have my faction fitted/tech2 cnr
Go back to WoW, anybody who plays WoW and enjoys running around as a fairy boy isnt going to get EVE, no matter how long you play it, as is evident in your post, have a nice day

Like grinding faction standings for epic items in wow you mean?
in other news, i've spent the past couple of days running level one missions to get my standing up with a corp because i want their LP rewards. This was a fresh and exciting experience that in no way mirrors some of the most maligned features of WoW.

I've just started EVE again too after a long time in WOW. You cant compare the two games as they are completely different.
In wow you grind mobs for rep/gold/items so you can do PVE raids. PVE raids are wow's primary content and it does that much better than EVE. The pvp in wow is a joke, and there is very little point in the mmo part except for the raids.
In eve you mine/trade/mission for isk so you can get involved in pvp, corpwars etc. The politics, wars etc is the primary content of EVE. Its built around player-player interaction where wow is mainly PVE.
The basic grinding in both games are not so fun. The only difference is that in wow you mash 2 buttons while fighting, but in eve you dont have to mash the buttons as much.

touchT... but you got FoFs and Drones for that so its in fact not THAT bad.
AND: you could also pay a lvl4 runner to share his standing gain with you, so actually there is a difference (admittetly it has been introduced only shortly ago)
so... what was the grind again?
edit: on top of that in wow you dont have a friggin choice other than not play it...

Yea but to PAY the lvl 4 mission runner to share it you need isk... which you then have to grind for. You can't just login as a newb and start playing the market, you need a decent cash base for that which is gotten... grinding.

actually in wow i had atleast 20 different keybinds it was far from a 2 button game the only grinding i did was to get the little gold i needed to pvp, i got all my gear through pvp the only grinding i did was 1-70 (took me maybe 6-8 weeks) and whatever little bit i needed for repairs.
in eve the grinding i do is missions, to afford to be able to pvp but i dont "have" to do anything to advance in EvE, thats my whole point, you autopilot where you want to go, you autopilot your skills, most of eve for me is just waiting for something, i just think if they could make it so you could actually explore it would be better that is my only gripe, i can't actually go where i want to go.
in EvE there are 6 "zones" i can think of jumpgate, asteroid belt, station, plex, moon and pos, wanna know how many places i can pvp in wow? i can pvp anywhere all i need is someone to fight and i think eve would be better with thousands of people all on the same "zone" with the ability to go wherever they please not just autopilot to one of 6 set destinations.
/shrug
what do i know i used to play wow im a noob.

Originally by: mechtech I think that without 0.0, politics, and "playing for a greater corp oriented goal", it's just not fun.
You should give pvp a try before you leave, join a corp that fits your style.
Eve wasn't designed as a PVE game, they stated it repeatedly while it was being developed.
What he said ^ I will not go on a "carebear-rant" since I have no problem with the concept of PVE. In WoW PVE beats PVP. But PVE-ing in EVE just isn't fun. (<--a matter of opinion, obviously, but that's my opinion) :)

id share my standing gain with new pilots for free, if they just tag along and salvage for me. they get half of the bounties, too! and im not the only one who does this.
and something else: if you dont know what you WANT to do, you wont have fun. (probably :D you still can get lucky=)

My advice:
Put together a 120 person corp, assemble them based on the type of ship they fly, then assemble massive 40 person fleets.
Then take those fleets into your mission.
You'll feel a bit more at home. :)

I do bit of this bit of that... that I feel is the way to keep eve fun - bit of mining, bit of ratting, bit of mission running, bit of pvp, bit of playing the market.
You are right - running missions 24/7 isnt required to play eve. But the way the tutorial is setup - it gives new players the idea that missions are the main part of the game. My sister just got an account - she thought missions were the main part of the game due to the tutorial missions.
I explained otherwise, but shes having fun running them so meh. And they are reasonably fun the first few times. But really the only non grinding way to get money is playing the market - even salvaging is grinding of a sort. Grinding in this case meaning repative, time consuming play.

its a PVP game numbskull. Missions ARE boring as hell. Go to low sec or 0.0 and then tell me its slow pace. I hate it when people like you post crap and youve not yet made any effort to improve your experience. Go back to wow i suggest, your guildmates need you to boost them through DM.

get a t1 frig, train propulsion jamming, and learn to work the scanner.
probably the least profitable way of making isk, especially if you dont know the ropes, but for sure the least grinding way.
