If a user is experiencing difficulties connecting to our default port for Tranquility, you may now have the option to use port 3724. We recommend this port only be used if you are not able to connect to port 26000. Since this is not the official EVE port, support for connection issues will be limited.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings folder if you use XP or C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\settings if you use VISTA and edit the PREFS.INI file. Please change the networkAdvanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1. You will notice that the Eve logon screen will now have a PORT option. Please type in 3724 into the box and connect as normal.
If this works for anyone, please post your feedback here so others may try.
Thanks
Garik BH, Captain
This worked for me - thanks!

Ok, things seem to be getting even worse now. I was unable to stay connected long enough to change my skill training. Actually had to try 3 times before I managed to change it.
So any update on "the fix"? Or is it a case of fingers crossed that it will be solved in Trinity (which still seems weeks away).
My sub runs out in a few days so soon I won't be able to post here anymore as I sure as heck aint renewing under the current circumstances. Gonna look for a refund on my Power of Two account also unless new information comes to light.

Do you get the C++ error window? If so, welcome to the club

Hi. This is answer which I have got from CCP
We have noticed there are a few players in Ireland having this problem, it's very likely that there are some problems with your ISP or their provider that is causing this.
I do suggest you contact your ISP and ask them what the problem could be.
Best regards, Senior GM Retrofire EVE Online Customer Support
How come I can play other online games without any problems???

Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

I`m NTL Ireland customer and have this same problem , will try today 3G from Vodafone, maybe will work for me
I have answer mail from CCP too, see below:
Hi,
If you have a router with a firewall or a software firewall make sure it allows all traffic through port 26000 for both UDP and TCP protocols. You can read through the following article to see if it has information that can help solve this problem, http://kb.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=119 You can test your connection to our server by doing the following, if you encounter problems you can send us the results. To see whether you can get reach our servers or not, please do the following:
1. Press "Start" and select run. Write 'cmd' and press
2. Write 'telnet 87.237.38.200 26000' and wait for the process to finish. If the Command Prompt gives you an error and fails, you are most likely running a firewall of some sort which is blocking the traffic from your computer to our servers. You will need to fix that. However, if the window generates some scrambled letters, you are successfully contacting the servers and you'll need to make a pingplotter test with further connection info.
Here's how to do so: Download a program called pingplotter which is available here www.pingplotter.com. If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work. Run ping plotter and set it to trace to 87.237.38.200, this being the EVE server, then set it to run at 1 minute intervals for 60 runs and statistics to include these 60 intervals. After that then try to login to the EVE server with the program running in the background. If your connection drops while running the pingplotter program then check if you get any packet loss or unusually high ping times at any node along the way. Save the results as a pp2 file or take a screenshot and send it to us.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again. We'll do all we can to help.
Best regards, Senior GM Xamother EVE Online Customer Support

Obviously NTL Ireland had the same problem with "The Game, that shall not be named" (WoW) in the last month and the fixed that.
He said that that there is no package filtering going on in NTL. But he will look into that problem and contact CCP if there problem is not on NTL's side.
Maybe it is a carrier that has some problems. Well they will find out. So far it is sit and wait for us. Can we, maybe, get an update from the CCP Network guys? Thank you!
Posted by Shogun a week ago.
This needs CCP's input. A simple phone call from CCP to NTL will achieve more in 1 minute than generic customer #293 inquiring about some "Internet game" will in days.

OK, officially adding myself to the list of the damned. Was fine yesterday (25th Nov) and now I cannot even log in, just crashes back to desktop while trying to load the character select screen.
It takes a lot longer to check status and then dumps me back out saying connection lost.
WTF is going on here??

I am now running pingplotter against EVE-server constantly to check if my connection has anything to do with crashes.

Had exactly the same problems.
Could not keep a connection for more than a few minutes. Tried everything suggested here and still no joy :( Tearing my hair out....
So last ditch before firing the PC through the study window I swapped my Zoom Wireless X6 Router over to a D-Link DSL-300T single port ADSL modem.
Connection's been up now for over 20, no, 30 minutes now and I can't believe it.
This won't be a one solution fit's all, but have a look at your gear. Definately worth a go if you haven't already considered your kit.
Hope everyone gets sorted
Regards

Just out of interest, how many people here are NOT on Tiscali and experiencing this problem?
Mine has just gone wrong and I'm not convinced that Tiscali are to blame despite all their bad press.

It is not the service provider. I'm on the east coast of the US using a broad band cable connection. Nothing else drops off. this afternoon I was able to be in game for almost two hours before it dropped off. This evening, 10 PM local, I was in less than three minutes before a lost connection message. I noticed that as the number of players on line dropped I was able to stay connected longer.

Perhaps something in the last patch has lit us up for Tiscali's FUP radar. I got back on at 22:20 last night.
Another guy I know who is also with Tiscali said he experienced the same problem for exactly the same amount of time.
Oh dear.

what is really interesting different people have different providers in different countries and different dates when problems started it looks like different providers had hardware/software updates for their infrastructures that blow up part of their eve-playing clients
it is not one provider so it is not player problem something in global infrastucture changes and it needs CCP attention

I dont see in how this problem is from the connection tbh. It just does not make any sense to me, I have this runtime error and constant crashes on 1 pc while my other pc standing next to and is connected with cable to the same router and does not crash at all.
the pc that is stable is an P4 3200, the pc that drops is a amd athlon 64 dualcore 3800+, to me it looks more that the current eve client has some troubles with the newer cpu's and that causes to crash eve. That the connections causing this I dont see how this could be.
