If the bible was 100% made up it wouldn't be based on earth, and it certainly wouldn't star humans, no matter how divine. Grow up, and use the tiny portion of your brain devoted to logical conclusions, and deductive reasoning.
Originally by: DarkMatter I'm sorry, but it's all fabrication from the human mind.
All the religions man follows were of his own creation, from his own mind to answer scientific questions where the knowledge for true answers was simply not within reach.
Sounds to me like, "Religious texts are entirely fictitious."
What you're looking for is, "Religious texts are historical fiction."
You've tried to change the argument. Oh, and this thread's about the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligent life, more specifically advanced spacefaring extraterrestrial life.

Edited by: Celeste Coeval on 03/09/2007 11:36:45 You know logic > this argument.
Religion has nothing to do with alien life as it's a human construct.
If I were you i'd look into what the ****'s were experimenting with towards the end of WW2. Specifically anti gravity devices.
The proof of alien life is around you. You exist. Humans are anthropocentric in their concerns and therefore answer things via placing themselves at the centre of the question. It's selfish.
Let me put things into perspective for you here.
James Lovelock stated that when we view the earth from space we are not seeing the earth in only the selfish sense. It is in fact the earth seeing itself, as we are made from the earth and exlusively made from it. We are the earths newly developed sense of self, the only problem is we see ourselves as independant from it "aliens" to our own land.
If aliens were observing us, I would imagine it was to use us as an example of how not to do a civilization. No alien race would be so superior to us that it couldn't communicate in some way, as we understand the language of mathematics. Our civilization is a shambles, politically, environmentally, socially. Would you wanna contact that?
Before we look out and wonder further than we can see, maybe we should stop and wonder whats going on down here on this spec of sand.

Of course it is. And the followers of UFOlogy, are quite similar in nature to those who follow religions. Both following a man-made belief system. Neither of which can be scientifically proven, because they don't exist. There is no harm in drawing a parallel between the two groups of misguided humans...

Light from god? You may have noticed that "god" looks like a space ship, and that there is a beam coming out towards a specific spot on the ground. Picture 2 shows a formation of objects in the clouds. Picture 3 is not jesus on a cloud. Did you notice the other objects all over the sky having exactly the same size and shape? If you look out your window, your sky does not look like that. Also they are a lot closer to the ground than clouds would be. And so on.
Maybe you and me really are seeing different things in those paintings, because I dont think you are lying about what you see. Its interesting though.
Paintings from this period are always heavily stylized, both figuratively and symbolically. Two reasons, 1. the populace was largely illiterate, but was worded up on symbolic/religious imagery, 2. it was a sin to depict anything 'perfectly.' The conjunction of circular clouds to me is for dramatic purpose, not as a depiction of a UFO. Light is 1 major representation of the holy spirit in christian iconography, nothing strange about that. Picture 2 is a perfect example of the stylized representation typical of that period. The figures of Jesus and Mary in the foreground typically 2 dimensional, and i think little to do with the clouds they are seemingly sitting on.
I'm still interested in your take on however many thousands of years of supposed visitations, and so little evidence. And why the story revolves so much around the US gov't and smells of the other conspiracies i've mentioned? Do you think aliens would act this way?

Edited by: Cornucopian on 03/09/2007 11:56:18 alright, back on topic.
"There are more than one hundred billion galaxies in the Universe, each containing hundreds of billions of stars."
The drake equasion and the rare earth hypo are just camps in an ongoing debate (wiki the mediocrity principle), as they should be like in any scientific discussion.
It seems far fatched in the extreme, at least to me, given the insane amount of galaxies and stars, billions of which have planets, that earth is the only life sustaining planet. Also, given the nature of science and the great advances people have made it also seems far fatched that it is impossible to ever contact alien life.
We already have lab experiments breaking general and special relativity (go back a few pages in OOPE and you'll find the threads), and although this is of course a VERY long way from star trek and spaceships, the principles are sound: einsteins laws can, and have been broken.
Also take into account the technological advances that humans have wrought in an infintesmally small speck of time and what might still be achieved. For some fun, check out www.iter.org and the current goings on in the world of fusion power. Iter aims to have an operational fusion power core going by 2016.
I for one do believe that there is alien life, vastly more advanced than our own civilization. Our own earth has been life sustaining for millions upon millions of years. Imagine if there was but one civilization that managed to survive an ELE and become a million year civ: they would be unimaginably more advanced than we are. Many scientists have stated that there might have been intelligent races on the earth before humans, but that they died out due to a possible ELE. if these civilizations occurred a few million years ago, and died out due to an ELE, we would not have any record of them. Fossil records only uncover 1% of what was ACTUALLY on the earth. it takes a very rare set of factors to even start to create a fossil from bones.

I believe that there is a higher-order being, and I have no evidence for this save anecdotes. You believe that there is no higher-order being, and you have no evidence because it's impossible to prove a negative. Can we just agree that until there is factual evidence one way or the other that we're both simply speaking from positions of opinion?

And there you go again. Can't be proven because YOU BELIEVE they don't exist. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Although I do agree, quite a few "UFO believers" are downright religious.

Well, if you discard the cave paintings as something else, I dont think I can convince you they have been here for a long time. Its basically the only historic signs I know of, except perhaps the pyramid mysteries and so on.
In the end, I guess you can always explain lights in the sky as something else than aliens. It could be unknown forces of nature, ghosts etc. But personally, when I see lights moving along a road, I think its a car. I dont think its a weather phenomenon, a animal or a optical illusion. Yet thats exactly what we do when it comes to lights in the sky.
I dont really need to convince the disbelievers because it makes no personal difference to me, but I hope some readers will find the whole thing interesting and learn more about it. Its absolutely fascinating stuff if you have a curious mind.

What pyramid mysteries? They align to the belt of orion in relation to the Nile as the Milky way? Nothing mysterious about that. It's simple praise to the heavens. Birds all sing in unison (pretty much all species) to the morning sun as they sense the solar radiation bouncing off of the earths magnetic field (the sound of which is here), couldnt this be called similar praise to the elements that surround us?

Perhaps the good pictures clearly show the truth, maybe aliens have camera jammers, who knows.

Interesting story, though if the CIA went trough all the trouble to cover that up then why exactly did they not kill any of the people who where apparently quoted as evidence? Sounds highly unlikely tbh
Ok, here is Buzz Aldrin (apollo 11) seeing UFO's in space.
Even though im sure you wont believe that either.
Maybe he really did see a UFO, im mostly confused as to why hes alive if the CIA is trying to cover it up, it just doesnt make sense to let someone with quite a lot of influence prance around telling the world about what he saw unless hes gone insane and there really isn't anything there. It could of course be that they want everyone to believe hes insane and think theres nothing there while there really is something there. Who knows, speculation is pointless, ill believe it when i see it, that goes for both god and ufos -----

Killing Buzz Aldrin because he saw a UFO seems a bit stupid. :) There are millions of people seeing them all over the world.
Do me a favor, please watch the disclosure project in my signature. Then tell me what you think of it. :)
