Originally by: CCP Oveur We're following exploration up with more encounters and also changing multifrequency probes. The Multifrequency probes take the selected scan group into account when deciding what results to return. With the Encounters being moved to Cosmic Anomalies and being given a Deadspace Anomaly beacon, you should be able to scan for either or both groups.
Edit note: There is also specific Drone Region encounters here
More encounters - yay ! I'm confused though what these changes will be. Are you saying that the current unknown exploration sites found through probing (combat for example) will no longer escalate ? instead escalation will only happen in cosmic anomaly sites ? (which so far seem to be just combat) If cosmic anomalies are changed to a deadspace beacon sig, will they still be scannable with the on-board scanner ?
If escalating sites will now be available through the on-board scanner, where is the incentive to train all those scanning related skills (they would only be useful for tracking belts and profession sites ?)
Whilst I am in favour of opening up escalations to a wider populace, for those of us who have spent an awful lot of time on scanning related skills, this would seem to be a kick in the nads.
The drone region specific changes... would these be the addition of profession sites ? i've never found mag, ladar or radar sites out there and would love to have the opportunity to find cores, bpcs in fact anything other than damn alloys and rig parts.
More clarity please - this is potentially a very big change

Another issue with cosmic anomalies - specifically in drone regions - they are lame - I mean the drones you find are tougher (in the sense they take longer to kill) than rats and yield crap amounts of alloys/parts. Even the tougher sites (that use neuts - how dare they :)) are hardly worth bothering with.
If someone takes the time to scan these down (albeit not very long with the onboard scanner) surely they should be rewarded a little over what they can do with ratting. No-one I know bothers with these anymore unless they are bored and want a slight change of pace from ratting.

yay - hopefully BoB vs Goonswarm fleet battles wont be like walking away for 5 minutes and youll still be doing the same thing when you left (i had a 2gig processor and it still made my game go into *lets fly you in this direction, still being able to fire and move but it wont register until you actually end up in your clone station with killmail and "clone activated" notice*
the prospect of new caldari ships are making me excited....

Edited by: LaughAdactyl on 04/10/2007 01:12:30 I have a question, since these new t2 ships will be released through invention only, will invention be upped a bit? Currently when i run 5 Celestis BPCs (me: 30, pi: 10, runs 15) with the celestis base item, and test report decryptor, in a POS, i maybe get 1 success, and 4 failures, is invention broken in some way, or is it just that its meant to be so low?

From what I've heard, if you can run EVE now, it will run just as good or better with trinity. So theres no box that will go obsolete because of this update.
And the official release date is "November" :P. So I'm guessing either they're not sure yet or thats gonna be one hella long downtime.

So uh, not that I'm not stoked at the prospect of owning a bright red Dominix (red wunz go fasta) but does "Sin" strike anybody else as a mighty weird name for a non-Amarr ship? Gallente seem to like names out of Greco-Roman mythology, so why not something like "Phaethon", or "Atropos"?
Of course the screenshot I saw is a few days old and we all know that nothing is set in stone yet. Hell maybe they've already changed it, iunno.

Can someone explain to me what is exactly happening with the drones?? All I noticed is that they are saying that the ships will have bigger cargo spaces for the drones. So what is everyone talking about a nerf for? Because everyone just keeps saying the samething without explaining what the hell is going on.
So please in detail help me understand what this "nerf" is.

So please in detail help me understand what this "nerf" is.
If a drone ship currently has 125 m3 of drone space, you can technically use 5 heavy drones. However, as with the Myrmidon, this causes balance issues. So the change is this: they're adding a 2nd attribute called "bandwidth" which is basically a second volume.
EXAMPLE TO CLEAR THINGS UP!! (By the way, I have no clue what the actual values will be but I know this is how it will work)
Light drone: 5m3, 5 "bandwidth" Medium drone: 10m3, 10 "bandwidth" Heavy drone: 25m3, 25 "bandwidth"
"Random ship" has a drone bay of 125m3 but will have an added attribute of 50 "bandwidth".
What this means is that, while the ship will have enough space for 5 heavy drones, you will only be able to deploy two heavy drones at a time.
Theres some speculation that this means you will be able to deploy more than 5 drones. This is false. You will still only be able to deploy only as many drones as your skills allow (aka 5 max unless you're in a carrier/mothership/guardian-vexor).
How this is a "nerf" is that its been assumed that the Myrm will only have a bandwidth of 50 or something, preventing the deployment of 5 Heavy drones preventing the DPS explained in an earlier post of mine.
Hope that helped :P

Alright I understand why they think the nerf is neccessary. I don't however believe they should do it. People are complaining about T2 heavy drones which takes forever to train. Those are T2, they should do a but load of damage. Not to mention they cost a **** load of money to buy and replace. I would rather drones just get better control methods then a nerf.

The Gallente drone HAC (Ishtar) takes its name from the Assyrian/Babylonian pantheon. She was the goddess of fertility, sexual love, and war. Ishtar was the daughter of Sin.

Ships like the Dominix, Eos, Vexor and Ishtar will lose some of their advantage of flexibility with drones as other ships become more versatile due to increased drone bay size and are able to field different damage types and other specialty drones, just like the drone specific ships.
You are wrong. The only ships that will lose advantage will be ship which have more dronbay that they can launch (more than 125m3) I can name only two such ships - Dominix and Ishtar. Imho Vexor and Eos will applaud to such boost.
Typhoon. All dreads. All carriers. Have drone bays larger than 125 cubic meters now. Although a number of the dreads have drone bays only slightly larger than that.
It will be odd indeed if something advertized as a "buff" to drone boats has the net effect of decreasing possible DPS from drones on any drone boat. (Done boat being operationally defined for me as any ship with a drone-specific Skill Bonus.) This sounds a wee bit more like a nerf than a buff.
I always enjoy Oveur's blogs, and view them as a colourful part of the eve ecosystem. I'm not sure I quite understand the level of salesmanship, though. It isn't as though we have a choice about whether or not to adopt Rev III and keep playing Rev II. So I'm sold, already. I was more dazed than buzzed after this blog, though.......

Hopfully they have decided to come up with brand new models as someone suggested before.
As long as the Minnie one isn't too much of a scrap heap. I mean, it's a Tech 2 ship. Don't make it look like the designer took off early for vaction, okay!!?
Caldari missed out before with the rokh as a gun boat. To make a T2 gunboat for a missile oriented race would screw everyone who uses them over. I WANT MY TORP TOSSING TOUGH TANKING ship.

I'm still confused as to why anybody thinks this is a nerf to drone boats.
If I understand the blog post (with the edit) about bandwidth, then all ships will be able to fly the exact same amount of drones they are able to now. We'll just have larger bays to carry spares or different types.
Take my Harbinger for example. 50 m3 drone space. 5 Medium drones, or 2 Large and 1 Medium is all I can fly. So, when we get 'Bandwidth', the 'Bandwidth' of my ship will only allow me to fly the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF DRONES I AM NOW, but I'll have room for spares incase they get blown up.
Stop looking at it as a Nerf to drone boats. You're still going to be able to fly the exact same amount of drones you currently can, you'll just have more dronebay space to carry more.

Cash in your datacores and get used to the fact that if you want a nice shiny License to make isk, you'll have to buy one or steal one or loot one.
The Lottery was an awful idea and its a good thing that its never going to be resurrected.
Unlucky if you are one of those who has a lot of the RPs which will only give u the lower valued datacores but I personally hope that the lottery never makes a return, unless, as one of the previous posters suggested it's to drop limited run BPC copies (limited could be 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 etc to make it worthwhile to learn the skills) with a suitable RP cost attached.

Originally by: JForce Can I get a "Please explain" on: "With this, bandwidth determines the number of drones you can control, allowing the dronebay to be considerably increased on drone ships, accommodating more waves or variety."
Do you mean to say that if my bandwidth is less than someone else, I can release 5 drones and they can release 10?
So combat will now be decided by how good your internet connection is?

Like everyone else I love EVE and I'm excited about the new expansion, however...
Expansions for other games packing a more advanced graphics engine always paint a pretty picture of the future. Regardless of what we are told it takes increased power for the more demanding engine and the more intensive graphics.
In this blog some customers have voiced concern about changes to their systems that are likely necessary to continue playing EVE without a loss of gaming quality. Trinity is due out early 2008. I have looked around and found no specific details on system requirements for this expansion. Considering the big shopping season coming up it would be helpful to know what we need to buy.
And now for the graphics option no game company ever implements but would completely rock. Say what you will the fact remains that 'cooler' graphics slow down game play. In more situations if your computer has the listed system requirements, less often with the recommended or above system requirements, but still graphics lag will eventually find you when you need it least.
Make it possible to display absolute minimal graphics. In a game like EVE all you really need are the overview, chat windows, menu system, object symbols in space and an arrow overlaying movable object symbols to indicate orientation. We don't even need the starry background. Graphics lag could literally be taken out of the picture for EVE clients in large fleet wars.

As far as increased system requirements, the only thing I've heard to that end is that you need something compatible with DX9.
And trinity 2 is a less demanding engine from what they were using previously. ALSO! There will be an option to keep the original ship models, etc. (The patch will be deployed with fixes and the improved engine, and then the graphics will be a separate OPTIONAL patch. This is from a dev blog that I can't seem to find right now.)
Summary! (because I say alot and little of it makes sense as it was written)
::Any system upgrade you will have to perform should be minimal (unless you're running a box with 10 y.o. parts...in which case why haven't you upgraded anyway?) ::The new models are optional.

This is how it works:
ALL Eve users get better graphics. Eve "Classis" is upgraded to be funkier than before, without being too taxing.
Eve-uber is for users with a graphics card that will support DX9c with Shader Model 3.0. These people will have the OPTION to download and install all the uber-graphics.
So everyone gets a graphics upgrade of some-kind. How far it goes depends on your graphics card.
But neither should prove any more lag-prone than before. The current Eve trinity engine doesn't make very good use of your graphics card as it is, hence being so RAM and CPU intensive.
The new engine, regardless of your graphics choice, uses the GPU a lot more, evening things out. |
