I was CEO of a Big Blue corp (NEMP), just before the fall. I think NEMP was in BB for a total of two months or so, before BB disbanded. I miss it.
We had good times in BB. Frigate gangs, Alektorophobia coming to help (after we fought them). 4-CUM5 POSes (greatest system name ever).
Much love to the people who were in that alliance.
BB RIP - until EVE is ready for a completely neutral space holder, allowing free renters and people like EVE University a place to learn. --

NEMP was my first corp, and after my short time with them I was in E-Uni both before and after the TBB collapse.
Basically TBB never recovered completely from the MC war. When the Four Horsemen left we lost our most experienced pvp core, and the constant presence of SAS (later joined by Euphoria Released) and some other pirate groups put enough pressure on NAGA to cause them to decide to leave 0.0. They offered IPS to E-Uni but there was no way that the Uni could hold off the kind of corps we were facing. So TBB decided to disband and give IPS to Storm Armada, who promptly lost it to Euphoria Unleashed.

I liked and approved of NAGA and Big Blue. Well, I don't know anything about illegal corporate doings, I just liked the easy of use and freindly store tenderers.
Also, civilized space seems like it is a good thing for the people of the cluster.

My two week trial was in Euni during the MC war, I was taught how to tackle, given a frigate and basic fittings and promptly died about 4 times a day or so to MC ships. Was the most fun Id ever had in a MMO. I miss those days sometimes.

We need the old corps of Big Blue to come together and form up again.
Should not be a problem to persuade the current residents of their space to leave, or allow BB to take control of it back. And if they do not want to be nice, I am sure there are plenty of people in this game that will help to force their hand.
How about it Big Blue? Just say the word and we can get the ball rolling.

I am game. I have 15M (at least) more SP than I did when I was CEO of NEMP. Half of EVE was red (because though we were neutral, they liked to shoot our tenants).
Raivi, I apologize, I believe I was in Europe when the proverbial **** hit the fan (after MC), and I was unfortunately hung out to dry when the XO decided to leave before I came back. But NEMP did a fantastic job doing whatever they could without me. Fearless new guys! = D.
Corps and members of TBB were something to be feared. Because they had none! --

That¦s nonsense.
I bet you refer to the CCP press release regarding a conglomerate selling T2 stuff too expensive and illegally trading the ISK.
You might want to look for big T2 Traders that are no longer around now - naga still is, and is well alive and kicking (with all the upper guys still in their chairs).

N.A.G.A. is still doing their thing, making and selling mad phat lewt to the masses.
Eve University is still doing their thing, training the mad phat masses. Some of them (along with some of the Four Horsemen) split off after The Blue Pill fell and formed a new corp called The Graduates. They were in ISS for a while, and they're in BRUCE now.
The Four Horsemen headed out to BoB space and I haven't heard from them since.
I haven't seen Fatalix in a while, but I'm sure they're still around.
And NEMP's old CEO has already chimed in.
There was one other corporation, but I can't quite remember their name. No clue what happened to them. _

I'm afraid TBB closed down because of several reasons. One of the main reasons was it's neutral non-agressive stance. It means that if we had lots of good pvpers around pirate corps and alliances stayed away and the pvpers got bored. As a result pvpers left and pirates came. Which then got some pvpers intersted and so it waved up and down a bit.
When LIH left combined with leadership burnout it was over really. We struggled some more but it was always going to end sooner rather then later. MC did deal us a major blow and while we were still down SAS en ER capitalised on that and made sure we didn't recover.
IMO if you want to have some sort of policed area then the police must be allowed to be proactive and chase hostiles etc.
There were good times yes, I remember the week before MC came we had one of the best times EVE Uni has ever had. Lots of activities, classes and events. Too bad it wasn't meant to last.
Will it ever be again? Perhaps, perhaps not. Would we consider getting involved again? With a good plan we just might

That was one hell of an op - my first experience of a POS takedown, and damn good fun.
Also, you guys made me jump a mile - I'd no idea you were camping the Oij gate for us, and jumped into the middle of what looked like 100 frigates!
There was something about the Big Blue that made it stand out - a friendliness between the members and neutrals (most of them) that made the experience a good one. Of course it all fell apart when the bad guys got organised, but still - good times.
An as for the Royal Navy (I can't remember what they were called either) they were damn good pilots to fly with - I always liked to be in fleets with those guys.
Happy days!

Technically, EU arived during the switch over from TBB to STORM, but EU with allies overpowered STORM within a week if i remember correctly, then EU had it for awhile, then grew bored of offensive pos war vs smashkill so we gave it away to STORM for free, then CI took it off them a few weeks later i think lol

The Big Blue in itÆs prime lasted about 6 months in IPS, which was a pretty good run for mid-to-small sized alliances in one place. Not more or less than the average more aggressive alliances of similar size.
I miss Big Blue a lot. It was a great resource when I was in the Uni. ItÆs location was only a few jumps from itÆs head quarters. We were able to use IPS to teach students about 0.0, and allow the instructors some 0.0 and PvP fun as well. It was a bit of a blow to the Uni not to have that anymore. I created ôThe Graduatesö to be a place kind of replacement place for Empire players to go to learn 0.0/PvP (after learning the basics from great institutions like E-Uni). TGRAD is now in the BRUCE alliance which has some of the same feel (lots of spirit, partial NRDS, and a 0.0 space near Empire), but significantly more teeth.
Much of what I do now as a CEO is trying to emphasize what Big Blue did right, and correct what Big Blue did wrong.

Good times, good times. It's like a reunion party in here. Manas is the one that recruited me into E-UNI.
I remember MC declaring war. Then waiting the full 24 hour period before they engaged us at the OIJ gate in BWF. I remember someone talking about it on TS, and I was all confused why they should attack us earlier than the 24 hr period.
Now my corp and I are the ones doing the small raids into BWF / 8MG / IOO and beyond.
On the MDK killboard I still have losses that have me tagged as E-UNI.

I remember my time in E-Uni/TBB fondly, and strangely enough, it was the MC war that got me hooked into wanting to join MC, as they were the first alliance that really outsmarted me instead of catching me when I do my random stupid mistakes.
TBB was awesome because of what they offered to the masses in terms of 0.0 experience, and I remember some really eager, blue-eyed students that'd gather around in 0.0 with you when you did classes and it was just great!
It was a shame it had to come to an end, but alas, at the time with how it was going, it was inevitable. That's not saying TBB in soul and spirit wasn't good...but a lot of things that was supposed to keep TBB afloat when it really mattered - Failed entirely to do so. This is, again, not me saying I'm blaming anyone specifically, it's just the simple truth and it was difficult to watch, but as long as E-Uni prevails like it has so far - I'm happy and I couldn't want anything but good things for my old corp! Go E-Uni! \o/ oh and hi MM! (^_^)/
Ps: Devilish, the corp you're thinking of was the corp lead by Seekrieg (Royal Navy something something).

Hey all! Hiya from Neslo!!!

Alright a little back story of the LIH adventures (as far as I can bring it). I'll be updating the Geminate wiki (awsome idea btw). What happened to the Four Horsemen in the BB? Well first and for most... burn out. We were focused on being the "pvp style" teaching in a learning alliance, while providing some basic security in the alliance... think player created concord. We had the SP and the will for about 7 months. Sadly as most pvpers will attest... PVPers on a leash is paramount to trying to heard cats in a field of trees. It's just impossible.
We came in with a corp chat strong during the US timezone of about 40 strong. We would have a Euroforce of about 20. It was a pretty healthy corp. We came into akora / bwf and helped evict FoE out of the area in november. It was a PVPing dream. Help setup an empire. We did it. We even took on the monumentous task of helping emergency deploy the Blue Pill on information that the MC force would not make it in time. (No fault of their own... and btw the threat never materialized)... With the Pill deployed we were finally "home based" out of the pill. The pill was deployed around Newyears of 2006. It was again a great acheivement in the LIH history.
BEGIN THE LONG ROAD
Yep... the long road to maintain the alliance security... and then we tried to do too much and too little. We identified an excellent way to fund a PVP force of our size (to defend) while still opening up the Pill to the public ( a shared vision with naga) we (LIH) would run primary contracts for materials of tech 2 moon mining for the alliance... thus financing our losses / fleet building.
So we had financing, and we knew that being in geminate that someone would want to greif (but never imagined they would want to live here... cuz we specifically picked IPS because the forums called it the HELL HOLE OF EVE)... we simply wanted to make a rose in the desert.
From the time that the pill was constructed (not a single weekend) we were war decc'ed and the alliance was constantly under seige by the wanna-be-pirate group of the week. LIH didn't mind it too much as it provided with entertainment... and the groups were of the same calibar and skill for the most part as our alliance (some n00bs mixed with experienced)...
Then came burn eden. Talk trash if you must, but they were the best danged PVPers in the game using the most of game mechanics. It taught LIH's most experienced PVPers some valuable tips of how to fight experienced PVP tactics. We killed them some, they mostly killed us and our residents. After 3 weeks of Burn Eden... and yes it gets old... LIH implemented the now infamous "Lockdown" procedures. We took on Royal Navy in our fight (as we had already hemeraged 25% of our PVP force to the "i don't want to protect neutrals for 14.95 a month syndrome" even though we wanted to portray the RP stance of Lawful Good), they didn't want to merge, so we helped convince folks to get them into the alliance. It was a good choice, cuz they were great allies (even up to LIH departure).
In a purely LIH funded event, on April 1, we deployed 8mg MASADA station. It was the most intense experience ever, as the infamous BOB easter egg killing roaming fleets almost blew up 2 months of saving of industrialists and a siginficant aount of ISK from Talon and myself. When it deployed, it was the pinnacle of the LIH experience.
THE DOWN HILL SPIRAL
With 8mg, we restricted it to all BB. We wanted to develop a cap yard for NAGA production in BWF and a cap yard for BB in 8mg. However, we had one director running the Industrial side of LIH. With the deployment of the Station, he became a hot item for recruitment with his management skills and awsome logistic thinking mind.... BOB got him (hi Hectic! o/)

... cont ...
With the LIH Industrial directorate in free-fall ( I wasn't happy, and I made my feeling known about it... needless to say this bites me in the arse later), we started doing a hasty bit of promotinos. Jirad TiSalver (our military ops director) started having to double dip duties... it was too much. EveTalon our CEO had RL issues starting as soon as we joined BB... so he was never seen much and much of the corporation relations and executive decisions was made by myself, with Hectic and Jirad.
With 2 of the 4 (Horsemen either out of game or left the corp) this became a real struggle to juggle the logistics of the industrial juggernaught of the corporation (we were running 50 large towers in two systems.... no sov no jump gates no cyno jammers... we were doing it with mark 5s... even with burn eden and the pirate flavors.
As you can start to see the nightmare to develop I'll spare you the rest of the drama from internal. Needless to say by the time MC arrived, LIH was a skeleton of the PVP corp we were when we arrived to the area in November. We were actively running ops with the majority of the PVP pilots being Eve-Uni. While I love those guys, they aren't 60 M SP chars.... well they are closer no *wink* but they weren't then.
So when MC took Masada, with little resistance, LIH at about 25% corporation membership left. I decided to try and make a run to recover the corporation. I turned the Masada station over to MM and Eve-Uni hoping that with the departure of LIH, that we might draw enemies away from BWF for awhile, while we rebuilt the corporation to previous levels (and maybe make a return to defend once we could).
We moved to Syndicate. Where a player, XORS, decided he didn't like how I expressed my opinion of the departure of the director. (I didn't yell, I simply said it was lame to leave... but on reflection... it wasn't just tha it was the entire drama of alliance / corp diteroration / under constant attack for 7 months that caused the feelings of animosity and had it happened under different circumstances... I'd not have reacted that way. But because of that, Xors decided he would rob the corp of it's isk, almodules and anything not locked down.
I resigned leadership, feeling kinda crappy about Eve, and the corp has simply gone inactive over the yaer I've been out of the corp. I took about a year off from the game to re-charge energy. 3 straight years... lol just too much with the drama. But I'm back now, re-finding the game. Making connections with abunch of old LIHers and gamers from LIH's past.
Will LIH come back? Maybe, I have now regained leadership, but put it to sleep for now. Would I bring LIH back to a BB alliance? Not without several LIH style corps, and a less restrictive PVP policy. Perhaps Guarding alliance to a BB alliance tha could be contracted to come back at any point.
As an aside: I loved and still love the idea of TBB. I would do it again in an instant, wouldn't change anything, except game mechanics to make it more feasible.
Love goes out to the boys from TBB and the old residents! See ya in space, hit me up in game at any time!

Yeah I'd love to know. Just for posterity more than anything else. Given that MC stated that their goal was to destroy the Ship yard tho.... I'd imagine that it probably was a member of the BoB directorate that funded the project. Just my tinfoil hat theory tho.

Actually speaking of LIH and Jirad Tisalver...Sabre A made me aware the other day that, that character is now in FRICK/MC (to which I responded on TS "WTF?? RLY?? O_o7), but it has "Under new management" in it's bio, so I guess good ol' Jirad either bought a new character, or finally quit EVE.
I hope the latter isn't the case, cause despite being an obnoxious loudmouth, he was a good guy and good at what he did!
Much respect LIH <3.

BB was dead because basically they were "too peaceful" like ISS and the CFS(i dont remember correctly),that kind of alliances are doomed from the beginning 0.0 is for fighting, its is like the old japan full of daimyos and samurais and peaseants ,BB werent aggressive enough so they got wiped out ,i call that evolution.

Don't confuse haphazard collections of carebears with nominally peaceful alliances with purpose. Weak morale, or no guiding purpose, kills alliance more than a lack of aggressiveness. ISS is at ~600 members now and has been around since the dawn of time. Probably will still be chugging along one year from now.
As for "who hired MC", this was shortly after TRUST lost their capital yards to BoB, and only BLUE's cap yards were blown. So it is generally assumed among ex-BLUE someone in BoB (if not Sir Molle himself) paid the fee. (BoB didn't do it themselves for political reasons, it is assumed).

Well there is that...
also, somebody mentioned that 6 months was a good innings for an alliance of TBB's size. I must disagree.. its actually a pretty poor showing. However, the reasons for TBB's short stay in 0.0 have more dimensionality than simple lack of agressiveness.
I would venture to say that TBB were too ambitious and by attempting to enter the early capital ship market they became a potential threat to other capital ship producing alliances. Lets face it, TBB were essentially looking to source capital ships to the highest bidder, when the industry was in its infancy. In hindsight trying to do that without very strong military backing was suicide.

Ill add to this reunion lol haha. TBB those were the days, I miss them alot especailly sitting on the OIJ gate waiting for the red minus to appear haha. Hugo I checked last week when I was in BWF the cemetary is STILL there hahaha. As for Jirad, Im going to miss that leather pants wearing ares lol. He taught the current high FC's of the E-Uni. TBB fell b/c when LIH were going through these problems it was MC vs E-UNI, we tried are best to hold MC but MC was too good for the Uni. IPS was ripped apart by them. Then came ER, you suck for kicking the TBB while it was down but you gotta do what you gotta do. now as for SAS you are worse then ER, You were Allies with TBB until the power house MC came into the picture and you gladly bent over for them and killed us. I still remember the op where you were in a TBB gang and turned around and started to engage Big Blue Forces on the gate. Very Bad Form but more then a year has past so meh.

Nostalgia rocks :)
I joined EVE University in my first week, and their recruiting material didn't really mention - no doubt it was obvious to non-noobs - that by joining E-UNI I was also joining an alliance called The Big Blue. What an awesome opportunity that was; the chance to learn about life in 0.0 and experience fleet combat, first hand, in my first weeks playing the game. For all the problems that came with it, BLUE membership added a whole dimension to the Eve Uni learning experience that I think is sorely missed.
If anybody ever held a Big Blue reunion, I'd so be there.

The Four Horsemen headed out to BoB space and I haven't heard from them since.

Respect to the Big Blue. I was psyched about the effort back when it happened, always been a fan of NAGA and a regular customer prior to ccp nerfing escrow. Obviously RK owes BB a thank you for building the stations in bwf and 8mg.
Originally by: SATAN <snip> Should not be a problem to persuade the current residents of their space to leave, or allow BB to take control of it back.<snip>
Well, this would probably have been true when we first took the stations. When we first came to Geminate iirc we had it in mind to have generally positive relations with TBB. And for a long time we really weren't sure we wanted the headache of those two systems. By now though, with our consolidation of Geminate, expansion, and time and effort put into the area I don't really know how that would work. Guess ya never know tho.
Respect, and thanks for the history guys, makes me feel good to know a little more about the background than I did.
Koronos
P.S. As INFOD, COW, and MDK and so on can attest, we lose A LOT of ships in bwf. My guess is that would be the case for any owners.

Like many others, I took my first few PvP babysteps in BLUE (That, by the way, is the alliance ticker, not TBB).
I came into BWF as a noob, barely able to fly a mining osprey. When I left, I was flying a merlin, but it was fitted with guns and missiles rather than mining lasers. My time in The Big Blue taught me how to PvP, and if it hadn't been for the excellent teachers and role models, I doubt I would've been even close to what I am today.
I've come a long way since I was in BLUE, but the alliance still holds a big place in my heart.
As for reuniting BLUE, please evemail me. I'd love to get a bunch of ex-BLUE members together for a gathering during Fanfest. Contact me and I'll work something out.

PS: Jirad has unfortunately left the game. He's felt unsatisfied about the game for a longer period of time, even quit for some time and then came back before deciding to leave for good. I've been chatting with him every now and then and a few days ago, he passed the character over to me. He was my first FC, and is still one of the best FCs I've ever had. I miss the guy a lot.

I had just started Eve and joined E-Uni when the MC war happened. It was all very baffling to me at the time. I was there at the gate in the first big battle when MC landed, a month or two into my Eve career.
It was sort of exciting when a lot of reds starting appearing, and target names were called. I knew I was supposed to "tackle" people, and I could see targets getting called in chat (no TS then, at least not for me), so I rolled forward into the MC blob in my little Merlin, lagged out, and then was blown up.
That part was fine, but afterward we just hid in POS's. There was a distinct lack of leadership. LIH was AWOL, and the NAGA folks nominally in charge of TBB just didn't seem up to it. Silentbrick of E-Uni lead a few ops, but other than him, there was a lot of lost opportunity for fighting back. I would gladly have sacrificed a few more frigates, but there just wasn't much action we could participate in.
I never even knew until much later the real action was somewhere else, involving a shipyard. I could see why newbies in E-Uni wouldn't need to know that stuff, but regardless, communication wasn't great.
I remember zandramus and super twinkey beheading the MC shark, which I thought was pretty awesome. I figured it was just another tool for fighting back. Officially that act had to be condemned, but I'm pretty sure a majority of grunt pilots thought it was great. MC's attitude at the time was "why the hate? we're just bringing the fun", which was kind of silly. Fun for them I suppose. It wasn't fun for TBB.
TBB did some nice things and had a neat culture, but needed a sharper pvp focus, a more aggressive defense, and stronger central leadership. At least, from my perspective as a newbie grunt.

Wow... that was unexpected.
I was puzzled at first to see so much nostalgia and fond memories of BLUE expressed by people from corps/alliances who actively worked on undoing BLUE in first place, and even more to see former members/residents toying with the idea of a BLUE - Reloaded thingie... but then I realized memory tends to paint past things all rosy, and we all can fall for the well-known 'good ole times' syndrome, once in a while.
So I'm gonna do a favor to the optimists out there and save them a lot of trouble, headaches and sleepless nights.
BLUE Reloaded: you don't want to do it, you just don't fully realize it yet.
My guess is the people who fantasize about reliving BLUE were either not in positions to fully feel the load of running a 23/7 event for 9 months (without GM tools), or people who feel BLUE could have worked if it was done largely differently.
The first group is in for a rude awakening, and the second group simply should call themselves CLS II or something, as what they want to do is not reliving BLUE but doing a different thing entirely (which is cool, too).
I'll spare you the wall of text about what made BLUE different in nature from prior 'friendly 0.0' projects, and why nerfing defining elements of its design would be akin to clipping the wings off a plane to ease turning around corners in street traffic.
Instead I'll just state for the record: current game mechanics and player demographics make BLUE Reloaded a non starter.
If you are interested in more details I'll be happy to answer those I can, but I won't go pursue the "plane at street corner" line of discussion.

The rumour was that the ASCN's directorship had a few 'bogus' Corps and Alliances who were allegedly building that 1st Titan for ASCN, one of those names obviously being TBB which is why MC were contracted by BOB in order to bring down the Capital Shipyards.
But you know what they say about rumours...what say you Seleene, are you in a position to give up the real truth behind these past events or as Nez says, are the politics still in play?

Hi Halafian! This part is also spot on. I never knew about the cap shipyard either until MC were in the process of blowing it up and by that time it was too late to do anything about it. If we would have known about it we could have tried a different defence strategy. Not sure it would have worked though.
Anyway, water under the bridge. Doing TBB again in the same manner will end in the same result. Perhaps having some open space for all can work but you will have to have a completely different approach. A strong pro active pvp force with not too many rules to tie them down for one.

1 of my funniest memories of when goons came to syndicate when LIH lived their was Jirad Tisilver engaging about 40 goon frigs laughing on TS about how many their were popping a couple then jumping back thru the gate in his pimped out raven. Shortly after we were blue to them.

TBB were some of my best times in eve and i saw my first capital ship there Damn that was awesome. I also mined a whole raven out of an osprey. Took me a month or so but i did it. Then I lost it and my +3 implants one day. I went total emo that day.
It'd be pretty cool if TBB started up again, i'd say they'd have alot of friends to help them out, was possibly the most loved alliance.

Shortly after we were blue to them. Now look where i am, how things have changed.
Actually, I can remember an even earlier incident where Jirad's scout chanced across a 3FA versus goon confrontation. We sat next door, wary of going in while Jirad relayed the play-by-play of two dozen frigates nipping a Megathron (cheering for 3FA all the way...)
Judging by that wall of text, looks like you wanted to get this off your chest for some time Nes! My own perspective: for various reasons TBB was a top-heavy corp, with and was later hamstrung by its relatively small leadership overseeing the crowd in its entirety.
Once burnout hit, that was it. Too few of us - doubly so for many Eve-U pilots were incapable of working solo, or in self-run groups. We neededour FC's, but by the MC war, 3 LIH directors had left, and Jirad was absent. Morale never really recovered.
If you're gonna do this again, share the load, eh? Hectic's 12 hour 'workday' for looking after the towers was a bit silly (but then, he's a ***** for hyperbole, isn't he?)
I miss TBB, because there are so very few 'Lawful Good' organisations, as Nes puts it, in EVE.
Really.
Insofar as corporate politics go, the majority of you are a crowd of hateful, selfish ****s who Machiavelli would spooge frantically in his grave over. TBB didn't really work because there were simply too many unwilling to let an entity that wished to provide 0.0 for all to exist.
Having said that, Burn Eden actually came to our aid during the death throes of the alliance against some of the vultures that'd moved in, and a few of you may be surprised to know that after MC's surgical removal of our cap yards, they hung around to help defend for a few days. Takes all sorts, eh? -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

Originally by: Moe Tard Wow... that was unexpected.
It is good to see a TBB post. Although I was a brand new player back then and I am still learning everyday about Eve, I think TBB could work again. The main thing needed(besides the other departments) is a strong and committed PVP force that is not tied to any regulations. Basically that PVP force would need to have the following duties:
-Protect the TBB HQ and offices at all costs -Shoot anyone that comes within 1000 meters of TBB HQ -Shoot anyone flashing red or otherwise not friendly(not in good standings with TBB) -prepare fleet operations for the sure to come wars(tactics and plans specifics to each corp/alliance)
I am not sure if the above makes sense, but my main point as response to you is that if the PVP force is committed and trustworthy,a TBB will work

No, it doesn't, at least not as far a reliving BLUE is concerned, which is exactly why I explained earlier it's not something you should even try.
"Shoot anyone flashing red or otherwise not friendly(not in good standings with TBB)" is a sound policy, and is what 0.0 alliances usually live by, but not BLUE.
As Neslo puts it, we were the lawful good guys of EVE, and the rule in BLUE was to ask questions first and only shoot if there was no way around it. This is a kind of heat your average 'dedicated PvP force' (bunch of campers) is not prepared to survive.
It takes a rare kind of player to do this job, which comes as close as it gets to that of a street cop and a social worker tasked with the pacification of a cesspit full of teenage sociopaths high on PCP.
To my amazement, we had that kind of people in BLUE, willing to take crap and keep their head cool, use brains and discernment, work around language barriers and the utter rudeness of most of the players, and with the fortitude to come back for more the next day, with a smile on their face.
Unfortunately, we weren't prepared enough (for many reasons, the project was kind of rushed to release), and we lacked some critical tools to ease coordination (some due to limitations in game mechanics, some due to our lack of readiness).
If you think BLUE would have worked if operated NBSI, well... I can't do better than point at the elephant sized plane with clipped wings crashed in the roundabout.

Main problems with BLUE were: - Lack of a generous reimbursement program for PvPers - BLUE was too pure on the NRDS stance wrt to strangers. Having a NBSI policy at home (but with easy to get Blue standings) and a NRDS policy outside home would have been workable. - Alliance leadership (NAGA) heavily Empire based and too removed from rank-and-file (sorry Moe).

I understand both your posts, but I still think such a revival would work especially under the "shoot anyone not in TBB standings".Add to that a specific defensive setup and you have something workable Of course leadership is also needed.
A bit of topic. if I understand correctly what TBB was about it seems Retribution(http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=603345) and Giant Space Amoeba(based on their alliance profile) are mostly doing what TBB was doing.Correct? Karnage Club Recruitment Thread |

Alot of ship production corps/alliances couldn't compete w/ NEGA on the T2 ship building...comes as no surprise that a manufactoring corp/alliance hired merc's to evict NEGA from IPS.
The 50 POS large POS towers in 8mg and bwf is quite amazing. The production from moon mining there was pretty sweet.
I think, at the time most people loved NEGA for the prices of the T2 ships/mods. heck I loved it.

I never post on the forums, but I get a kick out of seeing so many people in BLUE I used to talk to on a daily basis. I miss you guys!
I'm not sure if this is an attempt at a revival or a thread to reminisce, but I will entertain both.
I didn't even know about BLUE when I joined E-Uni. They had just joined. I (stupidly?) told Morning Maniac I was interested in diplomacy, but I don't think I realized the gravity of that choice considering the way BLUE worked. Poor Elroy...I didn't understand him hardly at all in the beginning.
BLUE was the the best and worst time I ever had in Eve. I learned and experienced a lot during that time. LiH were a great bunch of guys, especially Jirad, who was a great FC AND helped me with algebra. E-Uni had great instructors and the guys from RNFLM were fantastic too. My job was stressful, but the people made it worthwhile. I might still have that recording of drunken Jirad. I laughed so hard I cried.
The stress in maintaining BLUE is what makes me want to encourage people to seriously think about what it involves. BLUE was unusual in its passivity; I'm sure many LiH guys became really irritated at me constantly telling them not to shoot the neutrals. BLUE with a NBSI policy is not BLUE, just another 0.0 alliance. The challenge is to do something different. We tried it and we failed, but it was fun for many people while it lasted. I invite anyone to try, but don't even think about it unless you're really willing to take it on. Else, you'll get burned out like some of us. BLUE was like another office job to me and most of my time was spent in my email inbox. It was our choice, but for me, it was worth it.
Anyway, I'm sure you can now see why I don't post. I tend to ramble. Good to see everyone again.

Originally by: Manas

The defense replacement program was a mess indeed, and certainly not up the task. That's one of those things I was referring to earlier, that didn't get prepped for properly before release, and we never managed to catch up during the live satge of the BLUE project, 50% due to lack of tools, 50% due to staffing issues on the job.
About it not being 'generous' enough, BLUE was never meant to be a sugar daddy for clueless pilots with suicidal tendancies.
Originally by: Manas

Thanks to Sacha for addressing the "Yes BLUE with NBSI would work, I tell you !" thing, I really can't be arsed answering that sort of drivel one more time.
Originally by: Manas Alliance leadership (NAGA) heavily Empire based and too removed from rank-and-file (sorry Moe).
All of the executive command of BLUE did live in IPS for the entire duration of the project, some were on location several months before it went public, and all of them involved in the nitty gritty of fueling POSes, running logistics/prod, and flying in combat, on top of management and politics/trade/diplo.
Had NAGA been revenue not been empire based, BLUE would not have been possible, considering it was by design a non-profit project, and, in fact, a ISK sink beyond your wildest imagination.
The alliance leadership wasn't staffed only by NAGA (far from it) - and the fact you can blissfully ignore that, Manas, only points at how little free time BLUE leadership had on their hands to pose for photo ops.
Originally by: Ikki Phoenix A bit of topic. if I understand correctly what TBB was about it seems Retribution(http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=603345) and Giant Space Amoeba(based on their alliance profile) are mostly doing what TBB was doing.Correct?
From what I can read there, both Retribution and Giant Space Amoeba are focusing on anti-piracy over a broad area of space (the whole map, even, in the former case) - this wasn't part of BLUE agenda.
Piracy is part of the game, and in BLUE's eye was one of the aspects of PvP that contribute to making EVE fun and interesting. BLUE prohibited piracy in its space, fully expecting pirates wouldn't go out of their way to support this policy. Also BLUE space was intentionally limited to one constellation, due to its unique (?) DMZ rule in EVE, which was realistically enforceable only with the support of majority of guests, and called for the DMZ to be reasonably small.
See my next post for details about NBSI/NRDS/DMZ. ----

To expand a bit on the notion of easy-on-standings-NBSI vs NRDS for those who lack experience with those two stances, those are fundamentally different from an ethics/politics perspective.
Easy-standings-NBSI means people get ganked without warning for jumping into your space, and is akin to mugging foreign travellers at your borders and kicking them out naked and with sore bossoms unless they have a visa. It's practical for a 'friendly and welcoming' sovereign alliance under four provisions:- 1 - you have enough administrative staff to handle all the visa requests and proces them in a timeframe fitting of the subjective faster time in EVE, or you fail ;
- 2 - you have the out-of game tools to efficiently keep track of who's who, which BLUE didn't have at the time ;
- 3 - you have the in game means to efficiently adjust standings, which weren't there and still aren't available on TQ to this day.
- 4a - your target userbase is well travelled and experienced enough to know about the need for a visa to get through your borders - BLUE was largely aimed at new players, and this is a great way to start off the wrong foot to gank new players on first date.
NRDS (Not Red Don't Shoot) is what BLUE went by, except when on a heavy warfoot (which was about 50% of the live time of the project) and pretty much guarantees you don't shoot innocent passerbys. Unfortunately it also guarantees you don't set troublemakers red (ie KOS) before they kill someone in your space, which is a mixed blessing to put it mildly.
In addition to provisions 1, 2 and 3 from 'friendly NBSI' above, NRDS requires the following conditions are met :- 4b - you are able to inform the general public and prospective guests/passerbys in advance so they don't assume you operate NBSI and engage your pilots and guests needlessly (hard to quantify how successful BLUE was at that, but it naturally improved after the initial phase of informing regulars in Geminate) ;
- 5 - you have defense forces able to react quickly and efficiently to suppress the threat provided by until-then neutrals starting to behave hostile. (BLUE Peacemakers took an impressive shot at an arguably impossible job) ;
In the case of BLUE, things were even trickier, as BLUE space was operated under a DMZ rule, meaning PvP (beyond sparring at safespots and self defence) was considered a direct violation of BLUE's sovereignty. When we asked from our guests to refrain from shooting their own reds and war targets while in BLUE space, NRDS was the less they could expect from BLUE pilots.
I believe nobody in EVE ever managed to do that before BLUE, and we were at least marginally succesful at the best of times, thanks to the fantastic help we enjoyed from many of our guests and neighbors in supporting this radical policy.
Less extreme rulesets are much easier to enforce, no doubt, and in fact some 'welcoming' alliances are currently still alive and kickin' on TQ. Those are more viable options than BLUE was, simply largely different from what BLUE once was, and exactly why I stated in my first post here: it is not a good idea to try an do a BLUE-Reloaded thing. ...unless you fully accept it may not live long (which we did from the start). ----

Hey Moe, I'm on your side, but BLUE had some structural problems. I started my corp immediately after BLUE in frustration in order to "do it right".
About "BLUE was never meant to be a sugar daddy for clueless pilots with suicidal tendancies": Industrialists often make this mistake. Be the Sugar Daddy. Generous PvP policies work and be sustainable via taxes, etc..
Mixed NBSI/NDRS policies can be a workable compromise and can be simplifying. BLUE's "pure" NDRS was in practice quite complicated, and often ended up with more dead neutrals from pirates than innocents saved, and frustrated PvPers.
The other issues.. convo me if interested. I agree that BLUE II shouldn't be started. T2 BLUE maybe..

BOB got him (hi Hectic! o/)

Jirad's leather pants were just fine and ...dandy..., it was the red fishnet shirt (albeit mixed with the pants they accentuated the vision) that put me into a panic.

Oh my god, so many familiar names!
<3 y'all.
I joined E-Uni on my first week in the game, something like 3 days into EVE. It was awesome! So many great people, such a nice project, and direct access to 0.0! I ratted like crazy in my first Prophecy in 8mg, to get me a Geddon... and then ratted like crazy in that to get me my first Apoc. I remember hating Guristas for their high EM resists, and being so proud I could be the tanker for a corp mining op!
I also remember being clueless about POSes, and taking part in the most unlikely fleet fight win in the MC war in a lowly griffin (trained just for this!), when we took down 4 BS, a command ship and two intys, losing only one t1 tackler. That felt just so great! And getting my first killmail and podkill. Oh the memories!
One of my characters joined LIH afterwards, but it wasn't what it used to be anymore. <3 to all of you guys!
Interestingly enough, after BLUE fell apart and I spent half a year ruining my sec status in any way possible (Hi Cadela! Hi Palli <3), I'm operating as an NRDS freespacer again now, with an entirely different approach. SF doesn't believe in a caste-like seperation of pvpers and industrialists. Don't be sheepish and rely on others' protection - know how to protect yourself, it's not that hard.
To be frank, I think TBB's demise was brought about in a big part by it's dependency culture... relying on the protection of the "police" force instead of teaching and encouraging people how to defend themselves is only one aspect of that.
Anyways, I probably wouldn't be where I am today without the nice welcome to EVE I got from EVE University and The Big Blue. Big thank you and much lurv! --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

nahh. Remember the first big fight on the gate when MC attacked? A decent chunk of the fleet was composed of the resident neutral corps who wanted to help defend.
On an individual level, yeah, there were quite a few fresh from empire unwilling to get their ears wet - but providing access was the point of TBB really. You've also got to consider that (iirc) it was also policy to prevent people from solo pvp, or working in gangs without Blue leadership in IPS. -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

Sounds like a nice time had by all. No comments on the ASCN funding comment yet, notably (surely ASCN didnt manage to run BLUE in their spare time?!).
I find the BLUE post on NBSI/NRDS really interesting as at one point it seems to suggest to me that you would have had to try and convince every member of Eve to be a defacto member of BLUE to make it work :) Possibly explaining the name. Not sure this can be easily explained but it's when I read about not being able to shoot back until after loss of ships being tricky :) This strikes me as meaning that those who would shoot at you would have to be eventually made to be a member to avoid losses (and hence you were aiming to stop PVP!)
So, undoubtedly a huge isk sink then :) This is not why I posted by the way, just my observations on this topic.
By the way, would like to take this post as an opportunity to mention that I am worried eve players (especially newer players?) are not even now aware of how important it is to join a good corporation/alliance to get the most of their time. This has been bugging me for a long while.
People who remain in newb corporations are not really what alliances and player corporations are aiming for. We need members dont we? Why do we not worry about people choosing to stay in NPC corps all the time?
As for those who are in corps/alliances already, whether they are getting the most of their efforts also honestly worries me. If you are not sure what it would be like to join another organisation, but don't feel the inclination because you are happy doing less then others seem to do, then you should move on. You're not going to get enjoyment by wasting your own time here.
The PLAYERS are the most important part of Eve and making the most of your time with them is VERY ******* hard (in my experience) but I dont see this concern in the actions of fellow players 'quite often'. So this is why I worry. Eve players have sometimes seemed to me to be happy to play in the knowledge that they could do more (but maybe later?), but are just gonna do what they are doing for now. ***#$%#**? GET A CLUE (some), eve doesnt play itself, a good fleet fight is a rare enough thing even now.
I'm just trying to make sure you all get more from eve, don't pod me for this :)
{post made on behalf of Zoea's owner alone and not IRON/Synergy (i.e post not made in the context of corp goals/aims ). May need to remove this later, dunno [unlikely I think].}

Eh, don't take what you read so literally. I'm having trouble digesting that wall of text...is the gist of what you're saying is that people become comfortable too easily, and don't try to 'maximise' their experience in the game? -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

Yes, I've reviving this thread, for good reason!
After poking around on our network, I found the recording of drunk Jirad on my fiance's computer. I asked him to edit the recording so it skips all of the boring parts and he kept the mp3.
I'm not around nearly enough to keep tabs on things, so I've uploaded it to my website.

Hey all !! WOW what a thread, brings me back to Synd / working w/ the 5 and the goons !! Sorry to read Jirard is no longer playing (his pants were cool no matter what you say!), I won't say much about TBB but it was fun and I really think we made a mark (or at least some great history) in the annals of the EVE verse. I was burned out (just ask Nes ) so I quit as well but with the new expansion and a general "miss the old days" I'm back (everyone hide yer Spiced wine !) As far as LIH reforming, we had our ups and downs but the old LIH leaders Evetalon, Nes, Jirard, Xors and his week straight (23/7) mining (even Hectic) I can only say; Oh Captain my Captain . . .

Main Entry: iro+ny Pronunciation: \ˈī-rə-nē also ˈī(-ə)r-nē\ Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural iro+nies Etymology: Latin ironia, from Greek eirōnia, from eirōn dissembler Date: 1502
1: a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning ùcalled also Socratic irony2 a: the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning b: a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony c: an ironic expression or utterance3 a (1): incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result (2): an event or result marked by such incongruity b: incongruity between a situation developed in a drama and the accompanying words or actions that is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play ùcalled also dramatic irony tragic irony
BND, BWF, 8MQ, etc.. IPS-QB constellation, Geminate region K25-XD.. NK-AOZ constellation, Geminate region Commonality : Same Region, but opposite sides.
thekiller8 : Guy who wrote a flash comedy with a minor subset joking about "lockdown" lockdown : Sov controlling entity screaming for all residents or neutrals in a system to dock when hostile come about and no force is being put forth to deal with it. (Ie, a disclaimer)
I don't believe the word "irony" is applicable, but rather perhaps "serendipity", "coincidentally", or "happenstance". Perhaps a more accurate statement would be in fact "I'd like to say a blob I was in killed that guy your talking about during this same time frame in the same region, but on the other side of it, as which you are discussing right now."
Perhaps it is just ironic that some system named K25 that was off in empty space should have been the subject of thekiller8's corp/alliance utilizing a Lockdown warning on a public access channel, also. If that is the subject of what was ironic, well. You're right. How ironic, they should have done that at the time so that his funny moment in a flash video would be far less hypocritical, or should that be ironic given the fact the context shifted?

e-r still had ips at that time, it then changed hands to storm armada (the second time) then got taken away by a combination of ci/fe and smash/kill, mainly the former. its wasn't unti l ci had left after a month or so and iss moved in the smashkill went in and took the station after macabre votum shot a tower or two of theirs (iss) into reinforced.
chronology of ips ownership, start with tbb:
tbb > storm armada > E-R > storm armada > ci > iss > smashkill > roadkill/anarchy empire > roadkill

Man that was a good vid, I lol'd many times watching that.
Actually I got a Q for ex-tbb guys. Now that time has passed, was that really a fair depiction (albeit exagerated for the purposes of screen) of what happened when hostiles entered local, or was it really a pretty acute case of poetic license?

I would say that by the end... that was a faily accurate description of the neutrals. The video failed to show that blue foruces would then come in a HUGE blob for that one inty to kill it... but the video came about because Burn Eden did such a ridicoulous job confounding our PVP forces at first and instead of attacking us... attacked only neutrals... and spewed BS in local about supremecy. That is what birthed the idea of the "lockdown" and at the end of the tenure... it did get comical... and the video... defintely personified that to a "saturday night live sketch level" that we all appreciated.
