title says it all. i figure right now that is my long/mid-range goal. i'm still fairly young eve-wise and figure assfrigs and hacs are a fair goal to set for myself. is it feasible to skip over BS's, just continue doing missions / ratting / noobpvp in an ever pimping-out battlecruiser while i get support skills and other necessary skills up for assfrigs (and eventually hacs)? i figure why should i work to get my heavy guns and other BS stuff rolling if i don't plan to fly the real big stuff.

ehrm, 35M at least? dunno, at 34M now and still dont have hac skill ;o
not sure on amount of SP, but before you get into a hac you'll want at least lvl4 in various support skills.
so awu4, electronics/engineergin5, cap skills at least 4, weapon support skills4.
I would say, train for your t2 small weapon skills and electronics/engineering at 5, then get into an assault frigate. From there train the support skills to 4/5(cap, tank, navigation and weapon support) then move on to hac. no idear how many SP that are, but should give you an idear on what to aim for. If you're going for amar ones I suppose you'll have to decide if you want to fly the missile ones or the laser ones. Could easely train for both, but cross-training missiles and turrets means it'll take a bit longer to get those support skills up.

i would prefer to do the pure turret based assault ships but the bass turd devs put all the med slots on the missile ones . the zealot is doable in terms of medium slots, but the retribution is ridiculous with only 1 flipping slot. so i'd be best serve to at least have decent missile skills but i guess i'll cross that bridge when i get there.

2nd time around 7m sp and i was specced to hell and back for amarr only. made 7b isk in 3 weeks in the drone regions using only a sacrilege. -

You should have Tech 2 weapons and tanking kit for the HAC and the two cap skills at at least level 4.
I'm assuming that you have Electronics 5 (Engineering 5 is a pre-req down the tree). |

It depends, i hated BS from the start and i wanted a command ship.
It took me roughly a year to reach command ships, once at CS all you need is the HAC book.
Anyhow like i said i lack the BS skills but i can fly both caldariand Gallente "CS.HAC.Recon". The only ship i would consider myself kinda lacking in, would be the caldari recon's but for the rest of em i kick a$$.

I cant play with bs's because they're just to fat for my liking. Also i "accidently" trained medium pulse laser spec 5 so im pretty much obligated to go command ship/hac :P
I waited with training for cruiser 5 and all the other spaceship command skills until i could fit everything with tech 2. So i wouldnt find myself flying a ship with tech 1 stuff and totally suck ass in it :P
oh btw about the retribution post. Youll only be using it in small fast moving gangs and with the 4 turret slots and enuf lows for some multiple heatsink action it can actually deliver some nice dps. But ye for soloing its a no go :P

Actually not really, this chr was made just so it can fly an abso. I seen chrs of less sp in the same kind of ship taking short cuts. after all been playing since july 2004, i think i know how to spec a chr for one type of ship only.
ship was fully t2 fitted.
only fault of the chr at that time was all gunnery related skills were at lvl 4. now they are at lvl 5. that includes HPII and HB II weapons.
I did not deviate from my chrs chosen path, A specced chr can afford to be less sp if he or she is aiming for one ship.

I dont believe total skill points make much difference... what matters are the support skills.. I was soloing lvl 3s with my eagle because i had the necessary support skills... I am currently in a nighthawk, and that is the greatest ship i have ever flown. I am actually able to solo lvl 4 missions in that sucker, though i do always decline angel extravaganza and when worlds collide. I also have trouble with Guristas Extravaganza, though i am able to complete it every time. Just takes 5-6 hours and lots of warp outs.. Anyway, Im getting a little off topic, but i wish i had never trained Battleships ... it seems a waste of skill points to me... i cant stand those things...

Edited by: Chaplain Veritas on 04/10/2007 23:06:27 well i've got my learning skills at a decent spot so i'm working on getting my support skills up. already have t2 armor reps, t2 dmg control, t2 AB's (MWD is plain silly in my cap sucking beast, though i run 'em sometimes depending on the application) just 1 lvl of hull upgrades away from my t2 resist equipment, then working on t2 pulse lasers.
THEN, i hear some people prefer to run a pimped out Harbinger then a Zealot (i can see why, 7 turrets on a harbinger vs 4 on a zealot... PRICE... c'mon!)... . the Sacrilage (aside from being ugly as sin) is gonna require a big training sink to get my missiles up to an adequate level :(. BAH!
so right now i'm just gonna keep upping my skills to make the most of my Binger, and then get rocket skills up in prep for a vengance (can i assume in doing so i'll start getting myself ready for the bigger Khanid boats?). in what applications does the vengance shine? are they fair in gang PvP?
ps: sorry for rambling, sorry for my post crossing over from skills to ship/mod content.

A little playing with EveMon: a brand-new Amarr character, fresh out of the tube with roughly 800K skill points, can train to Sacrilege in 129 days and a 3.562m SP. Adding in learning skills to IV results in a 91-day training time and a 3.949m SP total.
As for the OP's question, personally I got into a Cerberus at around 16m SP. I have only one char, and my training history has been, shall we say, eclectic to this point.

interesting, yeah that would have craptastic support skills but yeah you could fly around in space in one at least at that much SP hehe.
anyway......
according to evemon i'll have 6.5mill when i get heavy assault ships I along with:
small eng turret V small pulse spec V med eng turret V energy sys op V hull upgrades V weapon upgrade V electronics V engineering V mech V drone V spaceship comm V
assault ship IV long range target IV controlled burst IV sig analysis IV targeting IV energy management IV scout drone IV battlecruise IV med pulse spec I
what else will i need to roll with? seems like 6.5mill is a bit short from the sounds of things, what else would i need to fill out that ship?
EDIT: IIIIIIIIIIIII KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG LOL. forgot the required Amarr Cruiser V i'll need for the boat. that bumps my grand total of about 7.6 million SP. THAT makes a lil more sense. Also bumps my training time to 130 days for the whole enchilada....

I would say if you just put SP towards hac then 12+ mill sp would be fine as you really need some support skills to fly one effectivily. You don't need lvl5 everything lvl4 is fine to start but you will notice the difference with lvl5.
I would say get hac lvl4 also before flying them as you will miss out on a bit with lvl2 or 3.
I personally had 40mill sp on one char before I was in my first hac but that char was pretty specialized into other areas. My pvp char was in a hac with 30+ sp but he is a pretty old char and I used to fly BS so I had all my support skills.
For missions I would stick with a BC over a hac they tank better and do better damage for the most part.
BS are fun I have to admit flying a tempest with all gunnery lvl5 large proj5 and BS is nice as there is not much in game that can do as much damage :)

The only thing I was lacking was t2 heavy drones, but I decided to get the Ishtar first since I would be away from Eve for a while soon after - fly it a bit before I leave, and let heavies finish while I was out. At 12mill SP you are still pretty light on for a hac to be honest. You might be able to fly it well but you will be missing certain key skills to really take advantage of the ship as a whole.
Gunnery need about 5mill+ here support + tech2 Cap + engineering few mill in here cap helps as do shields :) tech2 light drone you will notice how good they are. Nav this is a very important one and you should really put some time into it :)

Hmmm - I'm at 8.45M atm and still not close to flying a HAC.
According to my calculations, I'll need about 800K more SP in gunnery, about 300K-400K SP more in navigation, might as well throw some 500K in drones (I have next to no SP in drones) and 200K in electronics (still need signature analysis V, always skipped that one) until I feel my support skills would enable me to fly a HAC to a reasonable level of efficency.
After that, throw on the required Cruiser V and HACs to IV (which is, roughly a mil SP), and it appears I'll be able to fly a HAC at some 11.4M SP, which sounds just about in-line with what people here say.
By that time I'll have enough experience flying a nano-Cynabal to fly a Vagabond to a good standard of efficency.
As for BS, I can't fly a BS, I've spent my EvE life flying smaller things. Even BCs I find kindof slow - I'm having most fun in frigates, really, and can stomach cruisers.

I try to follow the rule "get the skills to fly it well" before i upgrade my ships. I dotn see the point in getting the ship and then train for all the side skills (gunnery, navigation etc. etc) Therefor i think i had about 25m SP before i sat foot in a vaga. Im not in a hurry to get new ships, i prefer getting my skills in order first :)

Edited by: Havok Pierce on 21/11/2007 04:44:53 29m, I actually flew Command Ships (Astarte) before I flew any HACs (Deimos). I <3 the Deimos, btw.
Right, I hate flying battleships in PVP.
You generally want the ship's skill at L4 before you really start flying it decently.
Also, you really do need T2 weapons/armor for the thing as well as the support skills at at least L3/L4.

Still have not gone for it yet (27 million SP). Right now I want to get my shield skills to V (and large AC spec to IV) and a few other skills first before I look into adding a new ship to my arsenal.
My first HAC will be a Munnin though
And I know I don't need shield skills for it (armor is done with level V to all except the comp skills which are at IV).
I also need my drone skills up... blah so much to train.

Originally by: Michael Anthony I dont believe total skill points make much difference... what matters are the support skills.. Anyway, Im getting a little off topic, but i wish i had never trained Battleships ... it seems a waste of skill points to me... i cant stand those things...
umm, the nighthawk doesnt have problems with any level 4 mission, so you should be safe in both angel extravaganza and worlds collide even tho they take a few hours. Not sure what your doing wrong to have to jump out during gurista extravaganza

Not sure how many SP I had...probably 20-25 mill. But I did have HAC lvl5 :) I still miss my Cerb, but sold it before the nighthawk came as i thought the prices would fall. At the moment it seems that the prices are stabile again so I might get a new one. Although i loved it I'm not sure I wanna exhange it with the nighthawk :)

After getting a summer of play in I decided I'd wait on Hac's and not get them at around 12mil SPs. Going to cross train caldari shield/missles and get into a blackbird. Reason for this is I don't have the funds or pvp xp to use a Vaga without getting embarassed in the thing.

Pretty much the same as me. Actually I did have amarr cruiser 5 and hac 1 since something like 10mil sp mainly because I needed a break back then and amarr cruiser 5 was my longest training skill ;) but I didn't actually fly hac until 20mil+ sp when I felt I was really ready for it. Also I currently have skills planned till close to 40 mil sp and no cs skills there |

Total sp means nothing for the most part when it comes to how qualified you are to fly a ship. For a HAC the main thing is that all your equip is tech II, gun/missile/tank/cap skills are all 4-5. This is probably doable by about 8-10M sp if you train for nothing but skills that will be used for your hac, but since many people train BS/industry/trade/etc, it is more around 15M+.
But tech II equip is the big key, whats the point of a tech II ship if you don't fit it with tech II guns and stuff.

To the op, THANK YOU, You just made me realize that I REALLY DONT want to fly a maelstrom :] I'm flying a halfway T2 fitted hurricane atm, doing exactl ywhat your doing, ratting and pvp and missions. Atm, I am training cap skills to be able to fly a vagabond, Stabber is SO much BIGGER than a thorax , I wouldn't train for large battleship modules if you arent planning to fly them though. I would go with sticking in your harblinger and training support skills for the hac you want to fly whilst pimping out the harblinger to your liking.

I have a friend who decided to not to go with the flow... He has a non T2 fitted astarte... Instead, its faction [shadow serpintas] fitted... Faction stuff just sounds cooler than [insert named item here] T2

I can fly fully t2 fit gallente hacs at 13million sps, and that's with some thrown in indy, some in science some in this and that...
As for bypassing BS skills I know ppl in eve who have 40 million sp+ who don't have bs lvl 1 on their char.

Well if you can afford a faction fitted hac you most likely have the skills to fly a fully fitted tech II ship, the discussion here is how much sp you should have before you start flying around in a hac, not whats the most uber setup.
Im pretty sure most everyone understands that faction is better than T2. But if you only have gun/support skills at 3, faction equipment will only make you a more profitable kill.

Close to 30m SP, and only recently finished Gallente Cruiser 5, and working towards an Ishtar! Just have to finish off Assault Ships 4 and Weapon Upgrades 5. I already have alot of support skills done, as well as good drone skills... I hope!
Now, where did I put my Vexor BPC's for Invention
