Just thought i'd start a "Useless facts" thread about EVE, be it about names, things, situations, modules, battles, whatnot(an eggnog variant) and all in between.
I'll start with a little snippet:
Caracal is a desert living predator of the cat family, akin in looks to the Lynx. It is, rightfully, named Desert Lynx. Other names are Persian Lynx or African Lynx.
Now how that fits a missile launching, shield tanking frigate, who knows

Well, it doesn't, does it? 'cos it's a missile launching, shield tanking cruiser 
On a similar note, the Cerberus is a three-headed dog of Greek mythology that guarded the underworld, allowing all to enter but none to leave. Again, doesn't really match up... but who cares about accurate links, so long as the name is cool? ^^

Most probably already know this, but every time you fire a heavy missile, you're firing the equivalent of a modern day nuclear missile?
ACs are basically rapid-fire modern-day tank cannons.
The smallest frigates are around the size of a Boeing 747 commercial airliner.

For all those people who say bumping is an unintended game mechanic :
The Armageddon class battleship was solely designed to be used as a battering ram, hence it's shape.
It's massive front armor plating and it's overall heaviness at it's front end, coupled with high structural integrity was intented to be used to slam into Republic vessels and breach their hulls while firing on them.
For lovers of the Chimera :
It's design is based around a water carrier called the Kairiola, which was refitted during the Gallente-Caldari war to act as a fighter and troop carrier.
The original vessel was flown into the atmosphere of Gallente prime by Yakia Tovil-Toba during the war, effectivly turning it into a meteor and obliterating part of a city. A strike so direct to the Federation left a week long window to evacuate Caldari from their homeworld without Gallente response.
hmm... i'll see if I can think of more...

Ballistic Control Systems are not abbreviated as BCU and Power Diagnostic Systems are not abbreviated as PDU.
And there is no such thing as a CNR...there is a RNI (Raven Navy Issue).

1. The Rifter is almost the exact length and height as a 747.
2. Jita wasn't always busy.
3. Zydrine used to be expensive.
4. All or most of your T2 blueprints were developed as a joint venture between Caldari and Gallente researchers in Crielere. When the Guristas attacked the station, the researchers were kidnapped and held for ransom. Their bodies were later discovered.
5. A group called Immensea built most if not all of the gates and conquerable stations in 0.0. Not much is known about the situation. It's been hundreds of years.
6. Ships are either crewed or Capsule+crew with variants for both.
7. Several Caldari corporations have been involved in major market scandals. Gallente are not immune either-- Quafe and a special dietary supplement for Gallente school children are ACTUALLY MADE FROM GARBAGE.
8. Sansha went missing years ago. No one knows if he's actually dead. He had his ships designed to resemble something seen in his nightmares. Ghost stories are told to empire children and there is a mythology around the design of those ships (which I think are beautiful. I always liked Geiger)
9. Minmatar ships actually use a new eden version of duct tape. Most of the ship designs date back to the war- Many of the slaves stole nuts and bolts and a few materials and eventually came up with a fleet of working frigates.
10. Mathematically speaking- If you're in the engine room of a Minnie ship, you've already surpassed the safe level of radiation a human can be exposed to.
11. depleted uranium SHOULD be doing more damage than carbonized lead. It's about 4 times heavier and has a tendency to flare and become molten when hitting metal.
12. The actual output explosion of a 175mm antimatter round would be more than the amount of destructive power needed to tear Earth in half.

It's potent stuff. A gram of antimatter is enough to launch 1,000 space shuttles into orbit (so a gram could have orbited every space mission so far and still have plenty left over).

It's potent stuff. A gram of antimatter is enough to launch 1,000 space shuttles into orbit (so a gram could have orbited every space mission so far and still have plenty left over).
Of course, this depends on how much antimatter each round contains, and how efficiently you can detonate it. If some of the antimatter gets thrown into space, it'll just persist until it meets some actual matter.
Of course, the same energy density applies to normal matter as well if you have a means of converting it to energy.

They were never called unit. It is my belief that fools carried unit over from Reactor Control Unit and applied it to Power Diagnostic and Ballistic Control because they themselves referred to them as "units" where they meant to say "module." I refer you to this 2003 post where Power Diagnostic SYSTEM is referred to and no one mentions UNIT at all.
It will take a screenshot of the past and a ccp employee of the past to change my opinion. Only then is the proof exactly what it should be. I see absolutely no reason why CCP would change something from unit to module especially at that point in the game.

Oh heres some fun facts...
It used to be between six to seven jumps between Jita and Rens. Then CCP closed down the super highway.
There never used to be Battlecruiser or Destroyer rats in the universe. They were added and bounties on rats were upped just a bit.
There were mines in eve for a while. This was before my time, however the bluprints still survive. When i first started you could still find mines on the market at NPC stations, if you viewed market details on mines you already had.

- Every time you turn your battleship thousands of people get squished against the wall/floor with a G-force between 100 and 300 g's.
- Star gates are operated by really tiny midgets and gnomes who escaped WoW to the promised land.
- Crows have a*****pit window the size of a house compared to battleships and the size of a stadium compared next to a freighter.
