Before everyone start downloading the new trinity client ( released soon ) we suggest you do the following before doing so.
Update your drivers and install the latest update for DirectX Here are links for you guys to use for your hardware.
Graphic Cards: nVidia ATI
DirectX and Windows: DirectX web installer DirectX End User Runtime ( if the web installer reports everything updated when it isn't ) WindowsUpdate ( fixes a lot of issues for players in many cases )
Soundcards: Soundblaster Realtek SoundMax M-Audio ( Formerly Midiman ) C-Media Hercules nForce
Chipset drivers: SiS Via nForce
After updating your drivers you can run the following utility that detects if your graphics card can indeed run the Premium client
Shader Model 3 checker
Do note that even if you can run the Premium client the rest of your hardware could not be up to the task. Even though the graphics card is the primary hardware here the rest of your hardware needs to be powerful as well. You may suffer hickups which will require you to tone down your graphical settings, the classic client will always be an option for you if you feel the Premium client isn't running as you hoped.
The premium client is now available on SiSi so you can test it out before release.

Edited by: SengH on 28/11/2007 18:55:42 Premium client runs fine. Multiple premium clients run crappy. Trying to use the vista windows+tab to view multiple 3d accelerated windows simultaneously for multi accounting sends fps down the crapper. Dunno whose fault it is but i'll experiment more when i get home.

Frankly, I couldn't care less if multiple clients run well. All you should be worried about is one.

Extreme shadows sends things down the drain when you get more than one ship on a screen at a time and that is with an 8800GTS. Kind of odd to be able to run Crysis at Very High just fine at 1680x1050 yet EVE I get 20fps. __________________________________________________

Edited by: Threv Echandari on 28/11/2007 20:46:56 First off I have run both the Trinity Client with an without the Premium Client. My system is: Dual core 6600 2GB Corsair DDR2 800 ASUS P5n SLI MoBo Built in Realtek HD Audio Dual 7900 GT
All tests were done in Single card mode. Trinity- Classic All effects on 1650 X 1280 avg FPS 140-150 in JU- between 95 and 120 in FD-
Trinity- Premium With HDR on and all settings maxed and shadows at extreme, I got between 17-20FPS, Very Jerky zooming and panning. System was FD-, avg number of users in system 200
Sound was on in both cases though turning the sound off only resulted in a gain of about 2-5 fps (Well within my testing margins. and threfore no real diffrence.
with The Trinity Client Running in Classic mode and the Tranquility Production Client running at the same time Avge FPS for both instances (running in a Window) was 20 FPS. FPS on the TQ client improved when running in FS mode
SLI mode testuing has not been done yet. I also have yet to to do good testing with the Trinity Premium Client wit he lower settings. (I also did this prior to this mornings SIS I Patch.
I love the look of Trinity Premium, With HDR on it looks wet and delicious. Too bad FSAA and HRD doesn't work yet.
On a separate note: if the BITs download of the Premium client gets corrupted there is no way of Restarting it. its just asks you to install it and then Bombs out repeatedly. I hade to find the super Secret Full Classic to Premium Patch and Upgrade it that way.

I dont get it, Ive played other games that had more going on screen than the new client and have by far better FPS. Why does Eve require such powerful hardware considering whats actually being shown on screen.

erm no but Battelfield 2 has 64 player maps all pew pewing with incredible graphics and sound/collisions/physics etc. Currently on SISI im near Agil by myself and the FPS is just bloody horrible and there's no one here.
Can you give me a rational for that? Infact most ppl in this thread or the other threads have complained about FPS outside of big gangs, as in going to belts to kill rats, 1v1s 2V2 etc.. I dont see how everyone in the same system affect my FPS unless your chatting server lag which im not. Im simply asking why does EVE require such powerful hardware considering all it has to actually draw on screen COMPARED to some games.
I dont know, thats why i ask.

You will be able to play EVE even without a new card, just without all the new shiny content. To enjoy that, you indeed need a new card.
Originally by: Mina Morticia Is the new graphical content mandatory? Or will only certain features be supported by those cards?
No it isn't mandatory. If you don't have it, you will just be using the "old" models (the ones that are on TQ now) _______

Can I suggest that people make a system restore point before downloading and installing any new drivers and software. This gives you a sporting chance of getting your computer up and running again if it all goes to XXXX and will save a lot of heartache. XP I think you will find it from START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS/SYSTEM RESTORE

Here's an interesting question for the powers involved.
What will the new ship's models be like for those of us running classic? I.e., the Phobos, the Devoter, all these ships that I doubt have been made 'classic'.

Big problem here....Seems that the high end DX9 content no longer works with my system, after todays 132MB patch was released and i updated to that in order to play on the test server...
I have the latest drivers for my video card installed(X2900XT/Catalyst 7.11),as well as the latest version of direct X(November 2007 release),latest chipset drivers too,but after this smaller patch, nothing displays on the monitor itself, but there is an eve related process running, since it's listed on the task manager and is using 60MB.
Going to check to see if there's any updates on Microsoft update, but failing that, there has to be a problem with that 132MB,as everything was running great yesterday with the DX9 client.

I noticed the same with extreme shadows.. seems to tank going from normal/high to extreme where high works perfectly fine. I was also able to apply AA with HDR by manually forcing the "00000045: Oblivion (AA & HDR)" Anti-Aliasing compatibility settings in nHancer.

the currently sisi build is buggy enough without the new client. It constantly crashes for me(I'm also fairly certain that it has a memory leak as well), so I have yet to try the new content.

Yup, having problems with it too, whole client just locks up totally. Seems to happen more as I'm logging in. I'd say that 1 in 3 logins results in client crashing atm.

Running a Toshiba WXW series laptop, thats the Japanese verion of the one with the 8700GT 256MB in it, not the greatest, but I run the premium client at 1680x1050 at higher fps than the original, as long as I have shadows set to normal, upping shadows eats a lot of framerate. Bloom also eats some framerate but not NEARLY as much as shadows. Setting shadows to extreme drops my framerate to below 20, setting it to normal leaves me in the 70-100+ range. Bloom makes my framerate drop with about 10 frames per bloom intensity level.
