Heya Alice, just wanted you to know that I'm interviewing this weekend for a little part time job. Something for a little extra cash while the Mrs. Random is going back to school.
It's at a coffee shop.

Yay I finally managed to get an interview for a job, which I didn't get. I've been reduced for applying for the automotive equivalent of a McJob, Halfrauds. (I'm an auto electrician specialising in security, media, telematics and control systems)
Completed a quick telephone interview with them a few minutes ago, it ended thus,
Some HR drone that has no clue what the job entails : You'll have to undertake our 3 week training course to be able to fit products to cars, it'll be at your local branch.
Me : I have 20 years experience in fitting those products, it's all on my CV.
HR Drone: It's company policy, for insurance purposes.
Me : Ok, that's not a problem, who'll be doing the training? *I know pretty much everyone locally involved in the trade
HR Drone : Dave B******
Me : Dave B******? I trained him during his apprenticeship.
HR Drone : Pardon?
Me : Dave was my apprentice at Bavaria, I know him quite well (my previous employer in the trade)
HR Drone : Can I put you on hold?
Me : Certainly * waits a few minutes
HR Drone : I can't continue with the interview, I've spoken to Mr B******* and he confirms that you trained him. I've taken another look at your CV and you're too experienced for the post, the salary is unlikely to meet your expectations and wouldn't be appropriate for your level of expertise.
Me : I don't care about the salary, it meets minimum wage and it's a job doing something I know.
HR Drone : I'm sorry but you have been unsuccessful in your application.
WTF!!!! All I want is a job and to get away from being unemployed, now it looks like I'm unemployable because of my experience.

That is kind of sad...
i would at least speak to you face to face to ask why you want to do something you are over qualified for and ensure both our expectations are met when it is involving salary and future growth. |

Big company who wants to employ mindless drones who won't question what they're told. I've just spoken to the trainer and he's disgusted, he told the HR drone that I was probably the best interviewee they were likely to see.
I think they're worried that I'd know more about the gear, and the cars, than the guys who sell it to unsuspecting customers. I've had the overqualified / too old argument thrown at me a lot recently. I'm on the scrapheap at 42

Yea I dread graduation, if HS2 is cancelled there will be an even bigger glut in Engineers looking for infrastructure work. Too few engineers my ******* arse, there's a glut to keep wages down more likely, there's no funding to retrofit the water, sewage systems and we can't even seem to get any nuclear projects online.
Might just stay in education to ride out the depression if other avenues don't work out, or the military.

I know its much easier for people a bit younger to go out half a world for opportunity, but if the alternative is unemployment... Sounds like you are well qualified and chartered. I've looked into it, unfortunately while my profession is on the list, I have no recognised paperwork for my specialisation, it simply doesn't exist. It doesn't help that I've been out of it for 5 years, so any official accreditation I have has expired for immigration purposes.

You trained the chap you were talking about earlier, is there any chance he could sign something to that effect or get references from old jobs to that effect? Always the EU too, Germany might be a good bet for the Automotive industry.

Ya, i refused to own that game...then some oldie total war clan members gifted it to me. I was like NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...still not gonna play it. Played multi-player 3 times...destroyed people after my 1st lose. The game to me was balanced by being not balanced. If you had level 4 arty then you won against someone without it. The only reason i smashed people was i implemented a RTW 1 tactic that i guess the new total war fans had never seen. Its funny, because in STW 2 prior to RTS/FTS the clan i was in used it so much that when they released RTS/FTS they specifically targeted that strat, and eliminated it entirely.
Also, in STW2 i was one of the top 50 testers...meaning i just played it more than most and since i focused on the Cav aspect i new all the tweaks and edits etc on them. CA in recognition of my...lack of real life trolled me with a permanent [Dishonorable Coward] which normally, could only be acquired by quitting 3 games in a row before they finished. You could get the trait removed by not leaving 5 games in a row regardless of the outcome.
To illustrate how rare this trait was, after the 1st 2 weeks i was one of 200 people with it. To the point that the average player thought i was a hacker. Since how can a dishonorable coward be ranked? Its funny as well since a lot of the devs still played multi-player months after release as it was to help players get and achievement [defeat a CA staff member]. Every time they ran into me they would troll me further =( by doing the counter to the strat, forcing me to play STW2 by the meta...aka Bow monk level 9 with hidden gunners and little cav.
Still till this day though those experience make STW2 my fav total war series for online multi-player. Since i have never heard in the total war series of the devs trolling a player to that degree. Or giving one player soo much troll ability. Sigh...maybe i will test again for them after Rome 2. Still a lil scarred from all them nerfs.
TLDR STW2/RTW1 = the best. Lets be friends?
