Transporting 300m in implants in a shuttle between Jita and Ours. I was fine until about 7 jumps out, I tabbed into BBC News site and noticed Be****r Bhutto had been killed. Just clicking into the news story I head an explosion and tab back to eve to find my pod.
Suicide Smartbomb Apoc got me.

Once when I was a total noob idiot, I took a ship into PVP with faction loot in the cargohold and lost it.

I still hope that CCP takes responsibility some day and stops encouraging strife and 'evil' behaviour and instead encourage peaceful cooperative play. I'd love to see some real consequences put in place to combat bad behaviour, such as jails and statloss, refusal of resurrection, and the ability for good players to attack criminals without consequence, like we had in Ultma Online. In addition, insurance should be forfeit upon Concord involvement in your ship destruction, or simply no insurance and Empire based clones at all for criminals. All of which is perfectly realistic, in real life insurance won't pay for your car damage either if you ram it into a jewelry store to plunder it, eh? And why exactly should Concord protect those with negative standing?
Why even bother playing? Do you like it rough in real life too?

Like I said, I wish they'd be a bit more responsible. Is it moral to basically teach and encourage people to be ruthless to eachother?
Ah well, that makes a complex discussion, already had plenty of those back in Game Design college which I attended, and I don't want to steer the thread off topic with this stuff.
Originally by: Haradgrim Why even bother playing? Do you like it rough in real life too?
I play because I like to fit my ship and train skills and do missions for NPCs. Eve is a nice complex game and I love doing calculations to optimize my ship performance. All the games nowadays are just way too dumbed down and simply do not interest me. I can't name a game which has been released in the past year that I enjoy, well except Portal I guess, for the nice story and atmosphere (still way too easy though). I only play Eve, some Guild Wars and Dwarf Fortress (look it up, it's free and interesting). Oh the good old days where games were so difficult that they took over a year to finish
I'm the typical play-mmos-as-singleplayer-game person, I'm not a social person, there's a reason why I've been in an NPC corp for over 4 years. I guess that's a dark Eve secret too.

When I was new and still in frigates, I would fit my Rifter with both shield and armor tank thinking if I were in a real science fiction universe, I'd want to be able to keep both up. The funny thing is I engaged another Rifter to a draw and he had 1 year more in-game than me. He kept asking about my setup.
Also, I can't even guess how many times I went to haul something somewhere, whether for a mission or otherwise, only to find upon arrival that I forgot to put the stuff in my cargo bay.
I remember as a noob, getting a group of my noob corp-mates together and flying 4 jumps onto lowsec to mine Jaspet. Every rat spawn made us react like defcon 1. Fortunately for us, nobody even came into the system, let alone bothered us, so we got our ore out and felt like we just won Eve.
When I first got into a battleship my corp at the time first got 0.0 access. I assumed the system was always safe because it was controlled by a big alliance and I never bothered to check the security channels. One day I jump in and there is a bubble and a big gang of ships popping everyone who comes in. Noob-like, I'm still assuming they can't be hostile and I keep trying to ask them what is going on. Of course, I'm met with radio silence. Eventually I decloak and get popped almost instantly. Even then it took me a while to figure out that hostiles invaded the system and set up a gate camp.

We were one in a war and waited for a target to appear. We used a neutral mission runners mission as a safespot. We waited a long time when i got bored and asked for something to shoot. Out FC told me to shoot at the wrecks. You know .. when you get bored .. you dont think about what you are doing, just act like told. Dont have to tell you that my Apoc soon went down by concord

Morality is not really an issue in video games, it is immoral to kill people because as a result people have been harmed / killed. In EVE, no such thing happens, the "hurt" endured by the player is due to scarcity and is more akin to the "morality" of throwing rice at a wedding when there are people starving in the world (which I'm not saying is a moral thing to do, just that it falls under different catigorization in our society).....
Morality is just like free speech, you can say whatever you want so long as it doesn't infringe on someone elses personal freedom (i.e. yelling fire in a crowded movie theatre...)

This one was fun....
First pvp op with my original toon without anyone with real expirence, we went out and set up a gate camp in a bunch of frigs (me in a rifter) and one crusier for dps (thorax). there goes the gate, attack!!!!! A hauler, sweet! It was my first kill mail As I click my mail box, I pop!?!
Ya, cruisers and frigs don't tank gate guns well.
Note to self, gatecamp in low sec with frigs=bad I guess I forgot to read the memo, lol.

First 'PvP' op ever. Four of us, only one of us more than a few months old, took a bunch of T1 PvE fitted Caracals and an ECM Scorpion into MM space through the Taisy gate. There was no camp up at the time so we set off to a dead-end system nearby. We actually managed to kill a few battleship spawns before we got set upon by what we thought was a Prophecy. About the time we got his shields down, one of our guys went down. Not knowing about armor tanks, we got all excited because we figured he was shield tanked like us. His armor did not budge a frickin' inch.
It was an Absolution, not a Prophecy.
The guy felt so bad for us, he laughed at us and let the rest of us go with our hulls intact.
By the time we got back to the gate to Taisy, there was a bubble camp up and we all got podded.
A few months after that, I decided to try 'ratting down in Curse with a Brutix.
A meta-item 1 PvE fit Brutix.
I couldn't buy anything better there and I couldn't move anything significant in since we were neutral to everyone and Doril was almost always camped. I was fairly successful at killing NPCs, but not so much so at surviving the locals. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Edited by: Excido Clotho on 26/02/2008 21:51:25 I self-destructed in a 1v1 Hyperion dual. I don't even know why :( ... And, from the cruiser days: I found a gist small shield booster, slapped it in my brutix...and went into 0.0 with a very even mix of autocannons, arty, blasters, rails, pulse, and beam lasers -_- Got ganked by another brutix 3 jumps in ... And another time: I lost a Brutix to a bunch of Wolfs. 3 of them.
Okay enough stories about my horrible start in PvP :P

When tired, went afk to make pasta when missioning in a faction fitted raven. Came back to a pod. Was good pasta though...
Attacked an isk farmer raven in a huginn, deciding not to warp out as it was "him or me". It was me.
Got my first bs at 4 months old, fitted it using 2 or 3 rcus, and went to pvp in lowsec. Attacked 2 outlaw bcs and a cruiser, died while barely scratching any _

When I chose the name "Tirothadius Xor" for my Vherokior character, I hadn't checked the forum for information on Minmatar naming conventions. Now I wish I could change it; the "thadius" is beyond unnecessary, and the last name although not particularly bad would be better different... _______________ ["The meek shall inherit the Earth, but not its mineral rights." - J. I was once scouting for a roaming AXE gang up north last year during the MC-led invasion. Jumped into a system and saw two hostiles and a farmer in local. Warped to a planet at range to begin scanning some belts, and the hostiles are at the same planet, presumably trying to find the farmer as well. They're a raven and flycatcher and I'm a malediction - we're 70km apart.
With the gang behind me I figured I'd be OK as long as I could outrun the flycatcher, so I went to select the raven and approach it, only I clicked on the distant planet directly behind the raven by mistake, and then I clicked the warp icon instead of the approach icon before I'd realised my first mistake.
The flycatcher had only begun to accelerate as I was immediately flung to the far side of the system.
I'm surprised I still get asked to scout now and then; that little incident took a good few months to live down.

My worst has to be back when i was a awee n00b :P, years ago now.
I got draged down into 0.0 for the day, and later in the evening i was heading back to empire in my little merlin (which i'd brought for the trip incase i got blownup)
i wasn't broke but i had very little pvp experiance, but basicly i got jumped by a BS and cruiser on a gate, AB all the way to the gate, i returned fire half way there while taking a beating... ofc not been of pvp experiance.. i didnt know that, for returning fire I coudn't jump the gate XD. made it to the gate, wondered why the dam thing wouldn't jump through.... 5 times..... Died lol, then 3 systems later going home in Pod, i get webed and questioned if i was CA lol =D. he let me go tho, becuase i wasn't :P. plus he found the warning of the camp upahead usefull =) (cheers to that guy, if you still play/rememeber me :P) ------------------------SiG-------------------- No Stealing My SiG!, This SiG is protected by the Supreme Interactive Guard. As a noob, I was flying my shiny new Navatis, and I'd decided it was time for me to leave the Cistuvaert system. I bravely selected the Alentene stargate and hit warp. Unfortunately, I only made it about halfway... I didn't have the capacitor to get there.
So I turned around and went home... and spent three more days mining to earn a Tristan, which I hoped would get me out of the solar system.
That very day I escaped Cistuvart, perhaps three jumps out, I suddenly realized I must have entered low-sec. And wouldn't you know it, there were ships around the gate... the infamous gate-camp I'd read about on the forums. Figured I was dead as I slammed on my civilian afterburner and roared back to the gate, spamming local on the way: "Don't kill me guys! Just took a wrong turn!" And I made it back to safety.
I'd mistakenly thought the little yellow dot next to the 0.5 system name meant I was in low-sec.
And I think I'm going to stop there...

Well one fateful day I was chillin in low sec with my Hoes in my Zealot pimp mobile, and i came across a somewhat large mining op, 3 Hulks 2 Bcs and a cerb, well i thought it would be fun as hell to crash this party... What I didn't realize was the 12 man bs gang cloaked bout 50km off, It took them bout 5 min to realize me,i got a bc and a hulk by then, and i was dead.... I was like wtfbbqowned? After bout 14 seconds i warped out in my pod I got another zealot and waited till they hauled everything, those haulers never made it home. nor did there cargo(Poped the wrecks) there entire corp hates me and i lol at them everyday.
The Dark part about this is the losing of the first zealot as i had it rigged o well... Goodtimes goodtimes
