I reccomend a Sticky for this one. A very useful reference I must say. And do you really need to list the specifics of the mods? Isnt there just a pattern? I know for the weapons each named mod is 5% better than the last in the relevant attributes, i.e. 5% higher Dam mod and tracking for turrets.

I'm not sure if the 5% pattern applies to all mods though.

Thanks for the info on the named RCU/PDs, been looking for that one.

A nice list, but unfortunately it doesn't completely work that way, take rails for instance, I prefer carbide 425s cause they have the lowest cpu usage, and with blaster cannons I prefer regulated cause they have the lowest cap usage. There's more to it then just damage sometimes :D

I thank you very much for this detailed list, however I do not think that the 'best to worst' mentality applies to these modules. For an example, the kapetyn sensor array inhibitor has a significantly lower sensor resolution decuction value (I don't remember the exact number) than, say, indirect or low-frequency, but it is significantly higher in sensor range reduction value! I think a lot of items in eve follow more of a 'rock-paper-scissors' formula rather than standard progression. Certain items have lower damage but faster firing rates or lower grid/cpu requirements..etc..

Yea nice list Smile, may i ask a (couple of) question? (hope my leads doesn't hang me RazzShocked) Do you think the naming of metas is too hard to keep track to? hard to keep track of which module is the the better one or even what it is? Would you rather prefer a system where the metas was named as MK x? Similar as Iteron is MK I-V. For example 425mm Railgun MK IV I [MK4 I, if one would like] (425mm Prototype Gauss Railgun I) where 425mm Railgun MK I I would be the standard 425mm Railgun I. Or maybe a mixed version such as 425mm 'Prototype' Railgun MK4, where the name still is in for those that like some vary but where the MKx really is what vary the stats?

Comments/Thoughts?

425mm MK II
425mm MK III
425mm MK IV
425mm MK V

Sometimes meta modules are confusing to see which ones are better, a Mk system would be an improvement, although I would much prefer the mixed idea - like the 425mm 'Prototype' Railgun MK4 example.

I already mentioned it in this thread but I'll say it again, the improvements between the different loot versions make it impossible to simply say this one should be MK IV and this should be MK II. And the whole I-V thing is already used for the different tech versions. Just leave it alone, it's worked for this long and now stuff is getting replaced by techII you wanna mess with it.

Actually, it is a simple as saying that one is Mk 4 and this one is Mk 2. Because it would be based on the item's effectiveness at doing it's job, in this case, the ammount of damage the weapon causes - not how efficient it is at doing it.

And anyhow, there wouldn't be confusion in the Tech and Mk items, because one uses roman numerals (ie Tech II), and the other is uses numerics (ie Mk 2). Not to mention that Tech II+ items have a little flag in the corner.

I still think that the mixed version is a good idea, as it makes it clearer to players (mainly the newer ones) how a modules meta variants compare with eachother, but at the same time keeps with the current named system we have - because the names make whatever meta module you have feel, well, special.

If it helps, see it as adding a Mk to the name, and not as just changing the names dramatically.

MK I
MK II
wouldn't be so clear because you would get a TL2. shield booster MKII II , but i like the idea very mutch and mayb it's an idea to put the MKII in front of the names like :
MKII "Clarity Shield Booster II"
or just
MKII Shield Booster II.

AFAIK the listed is correct, the nanofiber armours are the worst special Crying or Very sad

but I have (or had) a Type-E ship scanner, which I think is the best one. I'll check tonight Wink

Edit found it Smile "Practical Type-E Ship Probe" and is already listed Confused Oh well

The names are great as they are, MK I et al would just suck, they would seem like Freelancer guns Confused.

While it would be easier to tell what they are it would IMHO take away thier special value and, not to mention, make threads like this one redundant.Exclamation

I like the names as they are, I just don't like the overlap in similar/same words in some of the guns (ie carbine/carbide or proto/proto gauss).

Just had a thought - use the current or a similar naming system, but make an easy to remember whats best, similar to the asteroid situation. For example, scout is closer to z than carbide, so make that better. Just an idea.

I don't like the Mk I - IV idea. it's not always obvious which one is the best.

Examples: Beta and Mark I are the best (in cpu) in power diagnostic systems but Local Hull is best in cargo expanders.

Is CL-5 better than Clarity Ward in shield boosters? (more shield boost vs less cpu).

I dont have problems with the current naming system.

its usually bonuses of 5, 10, 15 or 20%

In weapons, there are different types of bonuses on different types of named weapons. (cap usage/cpu usage/damage bonus and tracking bonus)
so in named weapons, the mk system doesnt make much sense.

Good work Cindy! You could have copy-pasted it from certain sources but it's not always easy to find.

Anyways I think different improvements can be made on names and types. For 1 I find that there shouldn't be any commen names but specific names for a certain type of weapen. Like scout=projectile, proto=hybrid and so on. Certain names are type-specific (compressed coil, modulated, ...) but others are not.

Special names have a nice ring to them off course but a system of numbers and versions is a little more obvious.

Use of colors for some part of the item's image could be nice. When inspecting an item before sale you know what "grade" it is through it's color. Like basic is yellow, then the named ones are: red, purple, blue and black or something. Just use colors you can identify easily, not like the brown and red used in threats.

Then I also think that the use of images isn't always consistant with the item. It might be that this has been fixed in some patch but I can't check right now since I have no Eve here. But I remember having a hard time identifying cap relays from power diag's since they had the same image. Also there could be minor differences between cap relay's and cap flux's.

In general you should be able to tell what an item is just by looking at your screen. Not needing to move your mouse over it or even get the info screen would be so cool.

Nice list..

Anyway, if new names was added I say a mix of old ones and new ones..

Like:

425mm "Prototype Gauss" Railgun I Mk V

We still have the names that make it a little more fun, and the Mk X to help clear up what is best. Smile

I don't understand why people are having so many problems understanding what Moah said.

Another idea which I think would be ideal, and would not adversely affect anything but rather just add to functionality would be:

In the attributes section of, for example "Small Ineffiecient Armor Repair Unit" instead of "Tech Level 1", you could have "Tech Level 1, Mark III"

Good idea or what?

Thoughts please.

Exactly. Allows for some indept study into the selection of guns. I'd never switch my Modal Mega Neutron Particle Accelerator for a Mega Neutron Blaster Mk 4. Might as well make frig names come up as i.e Caldari Frig Mk 3.

Hope i'm not to late, but the answer is no. If any changes were to be made, a name that reflected the weapons capabilities as opposed to a basic could do well. Same as the ship names are now, but more specialized. Dunno latin or old greek, so unless i.e malkuth means something with less cpu/power needs, there's an option.

Answer is no.

Edit: I can't see the great prob either. The answer is rarely more than a question away, and people are often ready to help or even supply with info on which i.e turrets to use and why. And god help it. You might pick up a string of knowledge when clicking showinfo on your named loot.

TBH I like the Names. It adds some color and flavor to the game that would be sorely missed otherwise. Think about how Boring this Sounds. You open a Cargo Conatiner and find a 250mm Railgun Mark IV. OK now what if you were playing late one night, and your half asleep, and find the same weapon. YOu'll probably mess up and Sell it off in escrow or refine it. But you put the Name in there Prototype gauss gun and even Tired your like "Ohhhhh great if I can use it or Isky City"

Keep the Names

As for the discussion on the names of named items - PLEASE dont change them.
Although I cursed at the person who thought of this (instead of indeed giving them numerical or alphabetical simple extensions to clarify their "rank") after a month of playing I'd say NO, please do not change them.

The names just give so much more flair to the games...not just dull items, but actually something with a name - hey man, you got these protos? Or these arba's! It's just a lot better, sexier, more entertaining. And it looks better.

I also think the names are great, but it might be an idea to put the version of the item (mk1-4) in the description ? That way you can keep the names, and also it's very easyt to see waht's the better item :)

A mark I-V system would be nice, but you see, a Mark 2 isnt necessarily worse than a Mark 5.

For example: A Malkuth Launcher uses 3/4 the CPU of a normal Tech I launcher, and does a little more capacity/higher RoF. An Arbalest is the best in terms of capacity/RoF, but uses only a few less points of CPU than a normal item.

The point: Low level named loot is easier to fit, while high level cause more damage.

I also think the names are great, but it might be an idea to put the version of the item (mk1-4) in the description ? That way you can keep the names, and also it's very easyt to see waht's the better item :)

This is a good idea. I understand how tricky the names can be to get the hang of, especially for beginners. Having grown up with them though, I think they should stay.

as for the mk I-V ratings.. these are all well and good, but how far would it be taken? 'named' pirate loot, for example; would Bingo's cap power relay be a Mk XI and Flossie's cap power relay be a Mk XIII?**

It's fairly straightforward with the original meta loot, but the new stuff has crazy stats. some have ridiculous DMG, some have insanely low CPU usage, some have crazy RoF. I don't know how you'd grade them.

**Names changed to protect the innocent.

Still, no excuse, it's much more inconvenient this way. Change it back, Mods! Sad

This thread's mentioned in there, so it's all good, people will still see it if they take the time to look :D
