This patrol area is rather quiet, but I am not here all the time; other duties limit the number of patrols that I run. The crew is enjoying the deployment and the variety that the work schedule allows them. Their help at the academic center has been a benefit for both our students and for them. So far morale is good. 115.12.08 22:47 Khumaak
Deathcans are a strange combination of pure chaos and astounding calmness. Confusion, suffocation, cold, these can generate panic and desperation. Human love and self-sacrifice; people endeavoring to comfort each other as they face death and suffering; this can generate a palpable calm. We have seen both.
Normally I do not report the confiscation of such items as a Khumaak relic reproduction. However, it is worth noting that such items, trivialities to capsuleers, would cost a life-time savings of the average baseliner. The Khumaak, even in replica form, has so much meaning attached to it, that it is illegal in Amarr space. Its symbolism is one of power, self-determination, and violent resistance. As such it appeals to many corners of society and in different ways. It is also of note that it is found as a mirror image of the deathcan in a strange sort of way. Khumaaks are jettisoned at the opposite side of gates where deathcans are found. When it is relatively safe to do so, we pick them up.
I had a good conversation early today with two other pilots who regularly make rescues. We talked about helping each others most efficiently cover as many patrol areas as often as we can to save as many lives as possible. This is good. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

In an age before political correctness, to imagine that the farer sex would be guilty of dumping deathcans into space would have been laughed at. There was a time when to nurture life and protect the helpless was a feminine instinct. Perhaps these comments invite trouble, but I am still more saddened when I see three out of four of the pilots reported above to be women. Are men and women liberated to become ruthless? Do we fight for equality just so we can all be equally evil? For the capsuleer it certainly seems to be true much of the time. Hmm. SANKOFA |

I walked past the community dining area yesterday after patrol and there was a glorious aroma emanating from the area. Our nutritional staff use a combination of synthesized and old fashion food preparation. The Community dining area is available for those who choose to use it. Most of our Matriculants prepare their own food in their own residential blocks. However, many also like the social atmosphere of the Community dining area. I try to take a few meals there each week to meet new Matriculants and see how they are doing. I followed the aroma back to the kitchen area. "What is that wonderful smell?" I asked. The answer given was "apple pie." This apple pie, and there were hundreds of them made for a significant gathering, was a round encrusted dish filled with spiced fruit and baked. It is then sliced in wedges and served. I had opportunity to try a small piece and it was delicious beyond reckoning. One could easily grow fat on such things.
I do not know the origins of this particular dish and neither do our cooks. Someone said it was a recipe brought in by someone we rescued. Regardless, the newly rescued are in for a rich welcome here at the center. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

I've been warned not to use the public tram for station travel, but it is the best way to get around. I usually travel with crew members or Center staff. I fact, I don't think I have ever taken the tram alone. I've never felt in danger. May this is wishful and careless thinking. Some would say so. Be-that-as-it-may, I probably will continue using it. The tram to the Agri-dome in the Kaap Center station is an amazing ride. Visceral as the pod experience can be, it does not replace these more baseline modes of travel experientially. Our residential blocks surround the Agricultural works under the Agridome and it is a beautiful place considering it is in a station. The night ride is especially enjoyable. The crop growing areas are minimally lit, but the residential and commercial areas are brightly lit and very active. It is like being in the country and the city all at the same time. DSTON's portion in the Kaap station is relatively small, but in other stations, we occupy what constitutes medium and somewhat large metropolitan areas in both agri-domes and habitat domes.
I think most capsuleers would actually find station trams a safe and enjoyable way to travel. Most often we end up in danger when we act too much like what we are stereotyped to be; self-important demi-gods. Don't act that way and generally, people won't want to kill you automatically. I passed up on an opportunity for a small arms and ammunition confiscation. We were on our patrol circuit in areas absent of stations and with battle ready vessels present. It was not worth the risk of crew and equipment.
Sigurd isn't exactly the most common name. So I found it interesting that two pilots with that name should show up on our rescue records. They don't appear to be related that I can tell. I wonder what the etymology of Sigurd might be? SANKOFA |

My patrol area is pretty slow. I'm not entirely sure as to the reason. SInce deathcans are partly a result of the fear of customs fines and reprisals, perhaps the low density of Customs patrols in this area accounts for the few rescues we perform. Could it be that smugglers make it through more often here. I have nted quite often that on the republic side of the border there is often no Customs patrols at all. In fact, sometimes the gate is completely unpoliced by anyone, Concord or the Republic. Dr. Tahrmal Nalthkh CEO, DSTON Provost, DSTON Academic Learning Center Rescue Pilot |

We are talking about the possibility of rotating our assigned patrol areas among the three of us. Captain Nalthkh's area is the slowest of the three and it would be good for the crews to go on and off of more busy and thus dangerous patrols. We have yet to propose the details and timing. My only concern is if Captain Nalthkh should face a deathcan situation involving greater than capacity where practiced methods that Todako and myself have used are un-tested by Nalthkh. However, his crew is experienced, so perhaps my concern is unwarranted The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Because this is only our sixth rescue since deployment, it is easy to detect that this pilot is a repeat. She has jettisoned people before. The implications are disturbing. At best its careless disregard; at worst, sadism. One has to know after the first time it happens that illegal cargo will trigger automatic warning at gate crossings. We have a problem. It is the kind of problem we are supposed to have in our line of work, but it is still a problem. Some background first... Sometimes, after we have been capsuleers a while, we start to make some assumptions about baseliners that are sort of projections of our own reality. We capsuleers are insanely mobile and filthy rich. Even the "poorest" among us has more wealth that most baseliners can imagine. When we want to go somewhere, we go. We don't think expense or getting a ticket, or even the dangers so much. Baseliners live differently. Space travel is expensive and very dangerous for the average person. It not just a matter of going where you want, when you want. This leads to our problem.
As a matter of policy, we take in pretty much anyone seeking refuge. Earlier today and without advanced notice, our corporation was "given" a large number of refugees of various sorts as reported above under "Reception Report." We are glad to offer them refuge care and help of most any sort. Transportation and disposition is an issue. We are dealing with people who are displaced. Where ought we best house them? In what of our communities will they function the best?
For example: 3000 Army recruits and 4500 Marines: These are soldiers among the millions upon millions within the empires who didn't want to be soldiers any longer. Some would call them deserters; others would call them conscientious objectors; all depending on perspective and political bent. We won't grind this axe, but we do need to find the best and safest community in which to house them. We have a lot of investigation to do to find out the stories and how they became refugees. 900 Mannar Textile Institute Representatives? This is a head-scratcher. (The numbers are not exact as the records we were given were based on "groups" in sized measured by m3 instead of headcount. We estimated off of the available data)
For now their temporary accommodations are in two separate systems where they were received. Adequate albeit temporary provisions and medical care are being provided while we sort out transportation to likely Yulai and Ation. In the mean time, welcome to the Disciples of Ston all of you. We hope we can help. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

I would advise some caution with your military refugees. Hopefully they have simply been abandoned by a lazy and callous employer on the way back from some operation that has been concluded. Thinking on what sort of thing might encourage two entire battalions of troops to desert or mutiny en masse the mind falls to crimes against humanity sufficiently bad so as to engender some of the more exotic punishments in the military code of justice - such as decimation.
Step carefully, lest you release a large pack of wolves amongst your lost sheep. |

Very sound advice. Thank you. Most who know me know that a somewhat fatal flaw is my propensity to overlook risks in my eagerness to see good in people. Some of our disasters have been because we were not careful enough. When I read this, it just made so much sense I had ask myself why such things do not occur to me more often. Again, thanks. We are going to keep the soldiers separate from our other communities at least for the time being until we know for sure who they are.

Yesterdays waning hour saw me piloting the cargo rigged Mammoth, DSS Freedom Liner on my way with thousands of homeless, civilians and Mannars to our center in Yulai. I had just fitted a basic cloaking device to the just in case. One the way, we discovered a deathcan with 47 on board. Usual procedure was followed and we were able to successfully get them on board and jump into the neighboring system. We immediately set to align and cloak to wait out the suspect flag. We were cloaked and creeping along but not before getting a Customs tag for contraband. We received the usual notifications but since we were cloaked, Customs was not able to target, scram or web us. So... we crept along at 12m/s until we were 100km + distant from the nearest Customs boat and then we warped to station. This took a long time. In my concentration, I did not record the pilot who made the Jettison. 47 were rescued and we escaped with a minor fine and standing loss.
The safe transport of the homeless, civilians, and Mannars to yulai was completed today. Since my return journey took me very close to Diaderi, I decided to swing through. 10 were rescued from a deathcan there.
The DSS Freedom Liner is a marvelous passenger vessel for "legal" passengers. It isn't a rescue boat, and it felt good to get back in the Mayflower at the end of the journey. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Interesting to read about these refugees. The Aurora Arcology houses several Coriault Couture Collective Display Employees. If we let them exchange idea's and provide a joint venture, we could come up with some interesting clothinglines designed to promote the workings of both The Disciples of Ston and The Aurora Arcology among the common people.

"What a horrible Stink!" That was the resounding complaint from the crew of the Mayflower after the first rescue reported above. My crew is very diligent in keeping the rescue ship clean, especially the medical berths. Great attention is given during the off patrol hours to preparation, cleaning and disinfecting the passenger and crew areas. So, when there was that awful stink, it was noticed. I was invited once out of pod to join my crew chief on an inspection of the Mayflower and yes, the stink was most noticeable. A careful search was launched and what did our wondering noses discover? A Fedo, stuck in a corner of a transfer bay. In all the rescues we have performed, we have never had that happen before. I guess we should not have been surprised that one would eventually end up getting stuck in a transfer. While not my choice of pet, we'll find a place for it somewhere. Our remedial education staff is excited to let the kids see it. It really is an interesting albeit stinky creature.

This would be a great opportunity for both groups. Here's an idea: Perhaps we could have a work exchange between the two groups. We could send a work group of Mannar Textile Experts to work with the Coriault group and you could send a representation to work with our group of Mannars; this of course if they both would enjoy the opportunity and would like to do it. Let me know what you think. We here at DSTON tend to e'r on the side of practicality, but it could be a real boast to our Matriculation community to inject a bit more style even into the emergency clothing we provide to those we rescue. Perhaps this project could lift the spirits of people who have been through some tough times.

That was close. No, not anything out space. I was writing about something that Dr. Nalthkh assigned me to do and then realized that I'm not supposed to say anything about it yet. So I erased it before posting. Phew. These are the rescues made over the last few days. While I was not in DSTON, I occasionally made rescues during my travels. A project I hope to complete before too long is to revisit these small communities and see if they might be interested in joining the larger DSTON centers throughout high security space. We also have a very small number still in low security areas that ought to have the option of being in a high security space. We'll have to work on that. SANKOFA |

A couple days ago, we were out of a normal patrol area and came upon a jetcan. We assumed it may be weapons so we went ahead to check out the contents. It turns out that there were also surviving people on board. Sometimes slave crews are found on board wrecks or salvaged wrecks because they are not allotted space on standard escape pods. It was likely the case here. I don't usually record pilot names when doing confiscations and so had not pulled up any pilot information. Thus it is not recorded in our records. The ten people recovered were given full medical evaluations back at the center and are fine.

Sivala is an enigma in that it is not a border system but still sees deathcans occasionally. DSTON has rescued from that system a few times not on intentional patrol, but just passing through. Record keeping and reporting has always been a rather tedious chore for me so its easy to get behind in the task. These are the recent rescues. I have patrolled the new low sec system twice now and no cans were found. This, however is not indicative of anything as it is often the case that nothing is found even in the busy systems sometimes even for an extended period. When I do the Diaderi to Zoohen run, I will regularly pop in the 0.4 system and check.
I have also managed a couple weapons confiscations along the way. Eventually, I will consolidate these at our corp hangar in Yulai. If Ston wants to move them on to Bahromab, he can do it at his convenience. SANKOFA |

Apparently, not everyone thought he was funny...
We were having a coffee in the Leaning Tower between patrols when we heard a commotion. Some fellow ran into the caf+¬ and hid behind the counter huffing and puffing and trying to do so quietly. A group of rather gruff looking security people rushed past the caf+¬ in obvious pursuit. After a while, when it was clear that the chasers had gone to other parts of the station, we invited the slight young man to tell us what it was about. It turns out that he was hired as a prop comedian on some sort of Caldari military mission (don't ask me to explain what I don't understand). He decided it wasn't for him and so hired himself out to do standup at a station bigwig party. Long story short, he lampooned the station manager's wife who did not take kindly to his albeit humorous jests. The chase did then ensue. We have agreed to shelter this individual in our center in Ation. Hopefully the embarrassment he caused and resultant anger will cool with time.
On a more serious note, we also report rescues as indicated and a significant weapons and ammunition confiscation. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Rescue and Confiscation Report:
115.12.20 (weapons confiscation: 10 M + ISK in combat drones) 115.12.22 14:34 Kalamari Tsurpalen 31 rescued
I received a notification from Ston about a low security crossing from the Mandate to the Republic and that If I felt able, that I could add it to our patrol zone. The crew of the DSS Assist was confident that we could patrol Uplingur with reasonable risk level. We have conduct one patrol there but will endeavor to make it a regular practice. Rescue work has been quiet in my area here. We were pleased to confiscate a good number of dangerous combat drones a couple days ago. Rescue Report:
115.12.22 21:54 Adm Ramage 19 Slaves, 4 Slavers (Diaderi with the Stratios.)
I took a partial crew from the redemption with two help test some new fitting just installed on DSTON's new Stratios. We were bringing her back from the shipyard to Yulai where she will be moored. The route back passes through Tourier which is the system neighboring one of our patrol systems, Diaderi. We decided to fly over and check the system. There was an abandoned can (blue) closer to the gate so we set course to intercept it. before reaching transport range another vessel looted the can. We waited. Sure enough, he ejected a yellow deathcan. We made the rescue and escaped across the border and on to station in Tourier. The new Stratios has not even been christened yet and already she has seen her first rescue. My crew and I were excited, needless to say. SANKOFA |

The Clothingline SoE recently released shows this can be a profitable venture for both our projects.
I had a talk with Ston about the exchange a while back, and can confirm the idea has support on both sides. Due to the busy schedule these days, it's been agreed to delay this cultural exchange and negotiating the details around it during early YC116. I look forward to this meeting, as do many residents of the Arcology, curious with what kind of styles & fashion these Mannar Textile Representatives come up with! Luminaire Holiday Festival was a great succes! Latest Top Newsfeed:More info about your newest pet, the Fedo! ! |
