115.11.25 00:27 nickles 1 former slave, one copy of Pax Amaria 115.11.26 13:39 Saduwa Vanassa 50 people
Given the wide distribution of the Pax Amaria I am a bit surprised that we have not picked one up in a death can before. The first report above was of one former slave and a one copy of the Pax Amaria, unsigned. We asked the survivor if it was his personal copy, but he indicated that it just happened to be in the passenger compartment with him when he was jettisoned.
The report below represents a significant addition to our Matriculation program NUVOS and the Khanid Slavery Abolition Fund. KSAF has followed through on their indication that regular groups of slaves would be liberated from the fetid flesh markets of the Khanid Kingdom and transferred to the Matriculation program of the Disciples. This group of 340,012 represents the station market capacity of any one moment in any Khanid Transport station found in khanid space. These were received in Khanid Prime. We have spent many months and continue to work to build up infrastructure in the Khanid Kingdom for this and any future growth as brought to us by KSAF. DSTON thanks NUVOS and those of generosity who have given toward the significant expense involved.

DSTON has received an interesting proposal for participation in a possible option for interested matriculants in a planetary settlement where they could work, study and meditate. We'll be considering the details at our next Development Office Meeting.
Our third rescue in Ashokon is reported above. We plan to continue patrols there. The pilot we have on site has told us that he is in a time of transition and it works for him to spend the time there. We appreciate it. We can keep a small staff there. The resident growth should be slow. This situation has reminded us that we really also ought to be patrolling the crossing between the Mandate and the Republic as well. Its just that we are spread a bit thin as it is. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

It is a tremendous relief to report my first completed rescue since accepting command of the DSS Assist and deploying to patrol the Ammatar border with the Republic. I appreciate the patience and professionalism of the experienced crew of this vessel. Experience staff also waited and prepared our home base and was ready for those rescued. Reluctance and uncertainty are small words to describe the first few hours of operation. However, I was very surprised at the effectiveness of the training I received and the ability of my clone mind to not only assimilate knowledge but also of the amazing interface between mind and ship. Yes, I've flown before, but only to get from one point to another, never to accomplish something with a ship, ship systems and a crew. This was a new experience.
I only recently completed the necessary skills to pilot the Assist and take up these duties. As a rescued former slave myself, there is something very profound and humbling about doing this work.
We rescued 20 slaves who had been abandoned at the Odatrik gate in Jark. All are in stable condition and being attended by our staff. We have yet to guage what sort of rescue volume we can expect in this area. Time will determine. Dr. Tahrmal Nalthkh CEO, DSTON Provost, DSTON Academic Learning Center Rescue Pilot |

ALERT Pilots who jettison passengers near borders and abandon the can hoping that pilots such as ourselves will rescue them... BE AWARE, that if their are mobile salvagers in the area, those survivors are in danger. Abandoned cans will be automatically tractored. Though in the past we have preferred blued cans, it is no longer that case. We have no way of knowing if these passengers will survive or what injuries they may endure in the process. Please be aware of this. Thanks

Ston advised me before taking this duty, "Do not obsess regarding members of your own people, your own tribe, who abandon their flesh and blood to die in space. Don't let your own heart be consumed in the hate we strive to extinguish."
Today I understood the reason for this advice and the immediate instinct toward anger. When one of my own tribe is responsible for the jettison of 7 people, it is natural to react.
Iofi, my crew chief says, "We calm ourselves then go about the business of rescue." I will try to head the good advice I've been given. Dr. Tahrmal Nalthkh CEO, DSTON Provost, DSTON Academic Learning Center Rescue Pilot |

I'm making this report from my Hammock tent strung between two beautiful trees in the camping area at the Paradox Festival going on presently. Soon I suppose I should be social. Its been an incredibly restful time. Its not something I usually do and it was difficult to leave patrols to another pilot. However, my crew chief has sent the patrol report as indicated above and it sounds like all has gone as well as can be. Lives are saved.
I've enjoyed some interesting conversation, especially with Captain Ymladris comparing notes on the training of fromer slaver hounds. It was a helpful conversation. Thank you, Captain Ymladris.
I ate some sort of deep fried something or other. I suffered no mal-effects that I can discern and it did go down alright. However, I refused to breath in smoke.
After I submit this report, I think I'll crawl out of my tent and see what's going on. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

When I returned to my tent, I found yet another rescue report from the DSS Mayflower. Apparently, in my absence, the crew has taken to playing "Mobile tractor unit volleyball." In areas with a high concentration of such units, one can keep them busy with a sort of space dance. Generate vouchers, such as wormhole coordinates, et.al. Eject them, abandon them, and watch the MTU's bounce them back and forth. I'm a bit concerned that my crew is not paying attention to their duties while engaged in this practice. I've also heard that others are beginning to engage in the practice, littering the area with blue cans.
I believe a short nap is in order. Something about the leaves in the breeze just invites a nap. Thanks again for the excellent rescue work while I am on this retreat. Be careful crew. Stay alert.
P.S. Che, I will try to remember "cephalopod rings." The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

I returned to my hammock tent to receive the reports above. The Mayflower crew has been busy and my friend in Ashokon has also kept up patrols. All is in order it seems.
My spirit is uplifted today after a time of conversation with Ms. Riordan at the Paradox Festival. Some IGS readers may remember her earlier days. But her's is a story of grace and change and how good can compel with greater power than evil. It was a delight to visit with her and DSTON wishes her and Paradox the very best in their efforts to serve the needs of humanity. I have found those who have been in attendance at the Festival to be a delight. It has been a most refreshing time. The settlement will no doubt be a fine place for many to call home. Perhaps I will be allowed to visit again in the future should Paradox permit it. I want to thank the organizers and all those who provided such rich, yet simple hospitality in a marvelous natural setting.
Thank You.

I arrived back at the Kaap center at around 21:00. I left the festival just after the main speeches concluded and the smartfabs were set to laying the foundations of the settlements constructions. The Mayflower was still out on patrol. When she returned, 48 rescued people were on board and disembarked to the center. her crew made a quick turn around while I was prepared for her pod and went aboard. This report is made back on patrol.
I plan to grab a cup of coffee at the Leaning Tower after this patrol. That should help me get back into routine of my duties.
Paradox has done a fine job not just in putting on the festival but also in the establishment of a settlement based on hope, optimism, and hard work. Kudos to all the Paradox capsuleers and staff.

I am somewhat worried that the crew of the Assist may become bored. They are used to a much greater level of activity in their prior service. So far there seems to be good morale and I hope to do all I can to keep it that way. I have invited the whole crew to participate in some educational practicums in Edmal. On our current path; the path of violence, race hatred, ethnocentrism, and greed, our race will extinguish itself. Individuals and nations in their quest for self-preservation are dooming themselves. Let us assert a spirit of collective-preservation that looks beyond the inefficiency of war to the efficiency of peace. If I look to the good of my neighbor as if it were my good... If I look to the good of the nation across the border as if the survival of my nation depended on it... Survival through violence, or oppression of others is the shortest lived survival. Survival that commits to the long-term good of all is a survival that will evolve into a sustainable prosperity. This is not a prosperity of affluence and excess, but a prosperity of sustainable provision that benefits each of us and the cosmos in which we live. The way of war cannot last. The way of peace is the only lasting way. Greed will destroy. Mutual generosity will sustain. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Since mister Momaki is an Achur, Tuulinen-haan, there's a good chance he's basing his statement on the Achura Empire which united the homeworld across sub-ethnic groups for a considerable period before the arrival of the Caldari, which is mostly regarded as an era of prosperity compared to the previous one where people were plucking out their enemies eyelashes and making them into pens. (No, honestly, this really was a custom.)
Though really, he could be basing his ideas on a million and one things. The unification of the Minmatar for their extremely successful first Empire, the early prosperity of the Federation, the Pax Amarria (the idea, not the book), etc.

Transport Log Report:
115.12.3 10 homeless, 10 Marines, 10 Militants, 50 Slavers, 6 stranded pilots
Three log reports are given above. I'll explain them in reverse order. The transport log shows the completion of the move of all human personae out of the Baromab center as we fully convert that center as a Weapons Confiscation Storage Depot. In addition, the Kaap center Slaver population was once again over 40 so decided it was time for a trip to Yulai. The Stranded pilots were happy to disembark there. The Homeless were then taken on to our Ation Center.
On the way, we were able to make a 20+M ISK weapons confiscation. These are now safely stored in Baromab.
Finally... Performing rescues close to gates gives us a measure of flexibility especially when examining more than one can. Most often, we escape quickly and without coming under fire. That is not exclusively the case, however. Today we took fire from a small vessel nearby, but escaped without any armor or structural damage. Shield taking modules were activated prior to the rescue and damage was readily absorbed. All 10 people wre rescue and no crew injuries were reported. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Our operative in Ashokon reported in yesterday as indicated above.
I have a friend who does frequent work with the SOE. His standing with them is excellent both at the Corporate level and the Faction level. I asked him how he obtained the standing. He answered that he has built it up primarily through level four transport missions. "Are you ever asked to do anything that you don't feel right about?" His answer was yes and that sometimes he is paid to run personal transports for the agent herself or to assist in some rather "un-soe" activities. He didn't elaborate. I asked him how he reconciles those situations. "I compromise on those rare occasions for the greater good of an organization that is good overall." I pressed him a bit: "So if SOE asks you to do it, its OK but if Quafe asked you to do it, it wouldn't be OK?" He paused, reflected and answered, "Yes." The conversation ended as we both we interrupted. I hope to pick up the conversation again soon. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Most deathcans can be found within a 90 degree arc of typical approaches and within a predictable distance from border jump gates. After a while you learn to prioritize those cans within those parameters first when on patrol. Cans outside of these designations are often leftovers from salvage operations after small battles. I share this because of some increased interest in pilots being involved in rescue work. It is helpful to know certain basics that will keep you safe while patrolling. If you have covert ops cloaking capability you will gain greater flexibility in making rescues. In our case, it enables us to use the safest practice when a deathcan is in jump range of a gate. Even if the gate leads to a system where the rescued people are considered illegal cargo, cloaking ability enables you to transfer passengers, activate the jump gate, align and warp to a safe station destination while seamlessly cloaking. When this method is not available because the deathcan is not close enough to the gate do the following: Approach the death can to zero range, align to safe point, transfer passengers and immediately warp to safepoint while cloaking. This almost always works even in the presence of multiple hostiles. The more pilots who regularly patrol for deathcans, the less death will happen. More will be rescued and fewer will be missed. Since Manwe Todako left the Disciples of Ston, he has continued to assist us often and without recognition. We recently asked for his help again to expand patrols along the Ashokon border gate. Now it is our great excitement to welcome Manwe back to the Disciples of Ston as a Steward and patrol pilot. There is a cluster of systems in the Ashokon area, Ashokon, Diaderi, Girani-Fa, and Zoohen. These are low traffic border systems that see occasional death cans. We can no longer just accept those deaths without doing something about it. Manwe has accepted deployment with the DSS Redemption and her experienced crew to cover all four systems. He will take over reporting rescues from his patrol area.
On a personal note... Manwe is a true brother in the cause and this news brings a great deal of excitement. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

As you know, when jettisoning cans there is a time gap between consecutive jettisons. So now and then, as reported above, we run into cans in very close proximity jettisoned by the same pilot. Sometimes, these cans contain former slaves and slavers separately. We've tried to figure out just what happens in these situations because obviously the pilot is not in a particular hurry doe tot he time separation between jettisons. As near as we can tell it usually has to do with conflict that arises between slavers and ship crew after slave cargoes have been jettisoned. Such was the case here. The Slavers were upset that the pilot had jettisoned "their property." A reward for expressing their opinion was to be jettisoned themselves; end of story.
Capsuleers can become quite indifferent to baseline life. We see this every day in our work. It is a sad process that happens when a capsuleer feels power without the moral compass to guide its use. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

He indicated that his passenger capacity had been reached and there were additional survivors needing rescue. I was not anywhere near at the time, but was able to contact an auxiliary agent who was nearby and was able to immediately assist Captain Biko. The remainder were successfully rescued. Lives were saved. It is satisfying to assist others in this way. Thanks to Captain Biko and his brave crew for their work in saving lives. We are glad we could assist.
Overlap...This experience feeds the dream that one day there will be 24/7 patrols at every crossing in our cluster where the practice of death-canning occurs. May there come a day when every abandoned person has someone to rescue him or her. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace |

Rescue Report:
115.12.07 18:46 Key Longstride 5 (Diaderi)
I believe of the four systems I am currently deployed to patrol, that Diaderi will see the most activity. Its seems the gate traffic there is the greater of the four. While this is the case, we will still keep an eye on the whole region. We welcome the rescue activity of others interested in the well-being of those who are abandoned in deathcans. SANKOFA |
