How can this possibly be a good thing if you really want this to work or be used?
Considering that they indend it to be used to introduce non pvpers to pvp, I'm not sure that is really an issue.
How does this introduce non pvp'ers to pvp? You are expecting noobs to go charging into lowsec in small gangs to be destroyed by pirate blobs... And exposing them to the SAME thing in highsec?
I don't but CCP does.
Exactly. Unless these FW pvp'ers somehow have immunity to non FW participants, it will fail at that goal. Also, they will expect the NPC's of their faction to fight with them. Are they? I doubt it, since this would essentially put CONCORD into lowsec.
As it is conceived of now, I see this expansion not lasting as far as anyone doing any of the stuff in it more than a week after release. This will be the most irrelevant thing ever added to EVE.
It doesn't have to be, but it will be unless they put it on hold until your EXISTING pvp'ers in alliances can participate.
A pvp expansion that excludes... your pvp'ers is a BAD idea, mmkay?

Yes, it is. Too bad for me the loss of time in the game with the likely whole day of downtime for the expansion patch will be more time than I and most pvp'ers actually spend with any of it's content.

I remember sitting there with Cosmo of SF when Ginger talked about FW at the fanfest - and I also remember looking him streight in the eyes and saying 'You have tested us RPers for a long time, you have promised us FW as a solution to a lot of issues. Don't **** it up.'
I am not looking at the whole situation - we all formed alliances because that was a nessisary tool for organiing war-decs and what not, we all formed corps and alliances to keep RP alive in eve, we have worked hard to keep the ball rolling. Now the powers that be see FW as an instanced PvP. Its just such a huge dissapointment - just reading the idea of 'battle zones' and 'new FW regions' turns my stomach. If CCP is not interested in having RP alliances in the game - they they have traded a small group of dedicated players for 'wow style mass appea' - I see that this is a good thing for ccp, but for the RP alliances, its just begining to feel like we are not wanted.
I will give it some time, but our dissapointment with this whole thing is shared across a lot of RPers who have been dedicated to this cause for 5 years. We followed the progression dictated to us and in the end, it was 'not meant for us'.
FW is too half-assed at one level, and too much 'consideration for peope who don't want to fight' at another - CCP simply needs to make a descision: is eve a PvP game? ok, lets generate more pvp. Who cares if the 0.0 alliances are involved, what harm could it do.
wait and see for now, but don't get your hopes up. . . ----

This will be the most irrelevant thing ever added to EVE.
It doesn't have to be, but it will be unless they put it on hold until your EXISTING pvp'ers in alliances can participate. Wouldn't it be awesome if "Big Alliance X" aligns with, say, Caldari, and because of that provides some degree of protection FOR the noobs in their lowsec?

One way to work around this to be sure to only get the ones they'd want in on this sorta deal is to only allow pure alliances to enter. By pure I mean strict amarr, strict minmatar.
Though an alliance of amarr with an ammatar corporation may have a case to plead.
Need I say this isn't what I had hoped for and that I don't see Rasa siding here, especially now being discriminated against for adopting to the game and going alliance format...

Originally by: Kiviar Really, from what was listed in the dev blog, FW boils down to two things. A free war-dec, where your oponents are less likley to just hide in stations and a hand-to-hold in lowsec.
Honestly I don't think CVA is going to miss much since they don't need either of these things.
If i were a hardcore pirate, I would just go to these new zones and shoot everything.
You completely miss the point. If they were pirates who just flew Amarr out of convenience, that would make sense. But they're RPer faction loyalists, and they're being frozen out of the opportunity to participate in something that one would think was aimed directly at them. If a corp could hold sovereignty, I'd agree, because then they'd break down to the corp level and join up and keep an unofficial alliance up, but they can't. So CCP is giving one of the big alliances a choice between failing in its stated objectives as an alliance, or giving up hundreds of billions of isk of investment. They got ****** good and hard by this decision, no matter what the financial side of it looks like or how much the new content sucks. Seriously, I'm truly amazed at how badly CCP has screwed this up - I could design a better factional warfare system on the back of a napkin.

wait wait wait
what does having 0.0 have to do with this? factionalwarfare should be fought in high/low sec where the factions are...well.. at war.
Just break down your allaince into a corp and join.

Except that, as it has been stated above, for the more badass RPers that is impossible since it would mean losing billions of isk investment etcetera.
For the reward of luke-warm Instant-Action pvp that has been talked about so far, it just simply isnt worth doing.
However, I bet that within the next week or two ccp will make a post saying "Oh hay guys guess what! we figured out how to allow alliances in to FW! isn't that great?" ---

I think its bad for CVA, PIE, U-K etc.
They should make provisions for the traditional RP alliances to participate.

They said they would, just not yet, its not all about 0.0 space holding alliances that have pvp *****ed descending and spanking the newbs trying to get into pvp. They pretty much hinted that there would be a 0.0 variant coming when they had *****ed it.

I just want to make a coment on the whole WoW thing as well, it's not like Wow in fact wow didnt even create that whole idea of a battle arena in the first place, its in almost all mmo's and a crap load of RPG's. It's like saying FF7 is just like wow because it has a battle arena. apples and oranges people
Second this is my comment about this whole faction thing, lag issues need to be addressed first. Yes yes CCP keeps saying lag is only in certain areas. That is true, but it's because there are alot of people in that area and with this setup there will be alot of people in the faction areas so I foresee no one using these places because it will lag like hell. Also on the note that CCP has said that if people wernt all in one place there wouldnt be lag, then how are corps/alliances supposed to fight? there will always be a large amount of people in one area and this thing is just going to make things worse.

but to be effective in FW you would have to leave behind your billions of isk investments...

Since all this happens in lowsec space i don't see any reason why RP alliances can't just take part in fights without actually being faction alligned (in gameplay terms).
I think allowing alliances in could backfire massively and ruin the very thing they're trying to create - give an alternate to the alliance system for the empire dwellers and solo/small group players. Last thing we would want to see is some 1000+ player entity claim Black Rise and start droping PoSs or whatever. I know they can't really claim them (as in gain sov), but looks what happens with 0.0 NPC space and alliances there.

I must admit, that the fact the members of alliances cant take part until they leave their family is a huge hit in the face. As the goon said, this is not only against rp alliances. This is against ALL alliances and forces us to train alts for FW. Not bad CCP, another good way to sell more GTCs...

sure, and what about those pirate corps that'll just put up a base there ? a lot of fun for the new players i bet...
And if it's to discourage blobbing and keep 0.0 pvpers out... i'll want to see CCP's faces when for example ex-MC corps or ex-TRI joins up... --- God favors those who take care of themselves.

I totally agree. This will not prevent Hardcore-PvPers from joining up with their ALT Corps with MoMs and Titans.
Now that this has been clarified, what does this expansion have for the people that cant join up because theyre in an alliance? What about new effects that have been announced for the next update? Will they be released too?

I'm almost tempted to put this down to lazy programming. CCP have decided to treat each faction as an alliance and the militia corp as a corp in that alliance. So if your corp is already in an alliance, you can't join up with a new one and if you are already in a corp, you can't join a new one.
Why they didn't just implement a new mechanic like "alignment" I have no idea.

They didnt want the huge 0.0 alliances to just come and dominate and destroy people new to pvp with huge teams

Last I checked, goonfleet ( a corporation) had 2660 members. If they, as a corp, joined fw, they would still outnumber most alliances. And what if ex-mc corps (that can have the collective power of some alliances) take to fw?

Well, on my personal poitn of view. RP alliances are nto loosign much.
Why? because this is not faction warfare, this is " little mens first PVP school". THis is not intended as RP stuff but only a way to populate low sec. There is nothign more RPish on it than rest of game . A shame if you ask me.
But at end this is PR not RP. ------------------------------------------------- If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough
