Originally by: Rodj Blake The thing is, for years now we've been asking for more RP stuff.
The reply from the CCP devs and the forum nay-sayers has traditionally been "go and make your own RP".
So we did.
And now we're being punished for it.
This can't be overstated. I see a lot of "well, you're gonna have to choose/adapt/whatever." True statement. Just like we've had to do for the entire existence of the game. And I'm sure we will.
However, Faction Warfare was a carrot dangled to us by the more roleplay-centric devs for a while "just stick with us, roleplayers and roleplay alliances! we've got somethin' coming that you'll love!"...and when it becomes a reality, the reality is indeed a bitter pill for us to swallow. Instead of finally facilitating our playstyle, we're gonna have to adapt AGAIN.
So, yeah, not a lot of excitement from the roleplay community about this wonderful new roleplay feature.

Since CVA is the only real RP alliance that has to give up something, then maybe it would be OK for CCP to negotiate something directly with CVA instead of changing the entire structure of the expansion. For example, maybe they could make Providence into a high-low-sec Region and make the CVA alliance into an NPC faction (like Khanid or Ammatar) with some backstory
Results: 1. CVA ego stroked by permanently inscribing them into EVE lore. 2. CVA member corporations can stop doing non-RP stuff like POS management and join the Amarr faction's militia.

It's all about control, the 0.0 alliances/corps dont like this idea because they will no longer be in conrtrol its that simple and so what i say!
If people want to leave there alliance/corp to have fun in faction war so be it! If you dont like it just stay in 0.0 no one is asking you to join faction i wish people will stop being control freaks and stop crying about it.

Wrong
Im not in a 0.0 alliance and I am against this.
The ones who dont care are the ones who most likely will not take part or are not involved in the logistics associated with being in an alliance.
So why argue if you are not going to take part or dont even care about this change?

Perhaps the main focus of faction war is to encourage non pvpers to go for pvp. In that case it will require lower risk and/or higher rewards. Guess what, that will attract the pvp crowd as well.
This does not simply hurt alliance traditionally known for RP, it hurts ANYONE in ANY alliance that does or wants to participate or try out the RP side of EVE.
*IF* this is faction warfares final arrangement (and I do not believe it is) it simply changes this expansion from something good to something oh well.
Anyway, I can go on oppressing dirty Minnis like Maggot and Tissa elsewhere *shrugs*

I have an idea
Make it that a player becomes flagged to the opposite faction after they pledge to a faction.
Sort of like a killright only its not a 1 shot deal and it will only affect the player who joined and not the whole corp or alliance.
And if CCP did this to discourage the steamroller thing then they have learned absolutly nothing from what other deviants who have pushed eves limits and broke them for personal gain (Many of whom got banned for pushing so far)
Whats to really stop thousands of players just all joining one faction and steam rolling anyway.
Seriously what is going to stop that scenario?
Because CCP say thats not going to happen??
And Cyno jammers were supposed encourage small gang warfare as well right?
Cmon you know whats the deal, why not let us play without ripping our identites from us? Identities are what make us RP. You cant RP without an identity. . .Otherwise your just like everyone else looking for pew pew.

Its kinda annoyed me this and people are missing the point. The RP alliances were created because CCP neglected the RP community within EVE. Content was next to non. Certain alliances to keep people interested did a 0.0 / RP alliance hybrid for example which has worked well.
People shouldn't have to disolve alliances / move to one corp / lose roles within the alliance to join in with FW. FW should not be an excuse for an EVE(LITE), the empires are going to go head to head, there should be battles on the scale of 0.0 warefare. Alliances should be able to join FW as an alliance.
Maybe ... You can not have Sov in any 0.0 systems if you join FW as an alliance, I dont know there is probaly hundreads of ways this could be done. But the very people who make up the backbone of the RP community within eve should not be stopped from parcticipating (sp)

How can this possibly be a good thing if you really want this to work or be used?
Considering that they indend it to be used to introduce non pvpers to pvp, I'm not sure that is really an issue.
This implies FW isn't about roleplay at all. Who says that roleplayers don't pvp atm?

Yes corps should be kept together as a group if entered into fw but i can see why alliances cant be. Things evolve everythings moves on and develops get used to it becasue its going to happen.

People constantly seem to forget that this doesn't have a **** to do with "RP" alliances exclusively.
This whole thing is having huge consequences for anyone that is in a corporation or an alliance. Don't forget that people that want to join Factional Warfare individually usually have to leave their corporation, since most corporations probably won't sign-up for FW. In a game like EVE you don't just leave/disband your corporation/alliance over a day.
And the whole argument is flawed.Corporations aren't always small, alliances aren't always big. If there's a reason for people to show up in big numbers, they will anyway.
Also, I don't think making a mechanical restriction between alliances and corporations is a good thing. Alliances aren't there just for 0.0. There are actually probably more alliances that don't do anything with POS's than alliances that do.
But personally I'm not overly cynical. Greyscale said in that 'live dev blog' yesterday that fixing this whole thing is a technical possibility and I've faith that CCP will do something about it. -- My blog

I disagree with that view. My corporation is certainly going to sign up to FW (yes Im disappointed that I have to leave our Alliance to do so - but so be it). You'll be delighted to hear we'll be fighting for the Amarr Empire.

I have to ask this question to those who support this FW idea and think the RP community is whining too much.
Have you ever RP'd?
Have you ever participated in an RP event either by one of these alliance or by CCP?

Yes I have RP'd.
Yes I have participated in an Aurora Event, though being new to EVE at the time and not being a member of the big RP corps we did feel rather excluded at the time: the RP community does feel rather 'cleeky' at times.

I have, I was in a RP allaince and I'm still in an RP corp.
personally if my allaince fighting for the minmatar rhought it was important to hold space in 0.0 instead of fighting pirates in lowsec or war decing ammar corps in low sec... I would leave so I could go fight in my home system/ammar space.
right now our allaince fights in 0.0 space yes, but my corp loves to hunt pirates in minmatar low sec with the union forces.
in other words... what would be the RP reasons for holding 0.0 space other than profit?

The CVA claimed Providence for the Amarr Empire.
Let us also remember that there are many Alliances at stake here who do not possess territory in 0.0, yet who do have a huge vested interest in RP and FW. It is not that it is new - it is that we have to give up what we have built over years to do it. ____________________

Also they must of relised FW would never be in null sec. that wouldn't make sense.

UK moved into providence to strike at CVA and to stop them from claiming it for the amarr empire.
But this thread is not about why we were ever in 0.0 it is about our dissatisfaction with the FW mechanic

To the players who seem to care about telling roleplayers that game development shouldn't revolve around them - there is no one group that it should revolve around. Largely, the only guideline to a good massively multiplayer game should revolve around rewarding groups of people for working together.
This doesn't mean any one group. We may have several thousand people strongly interested in roleplay, and somewhere between twice and four times their numbers involved in nullsec wars. But this is still a small fraction of the entire community. Don't go speaking for it; you don't know them all, and it doesn't make you look any sharper. Does remind me of the smartass at the restaurant who orders for everyone, though.
End of the story here is that CCP is rewarding the erosion of present groups and the recreation of others. I don't know if that's preferable to preserving current groups, but I do know that many entities could use more cohesion. For the newer alliances in the roleplay community, it's a pain. then again, so is dealing with a well-flown mixed fleet when you fly certain ships on a racial basis. We'll deal with it, win out, and the rest of the cluster will say we're not hardcore for flying at a disadvantage or something equally brilliant. You guys can shut up and get back to work populating my market. I need that idiot loudmouth majority to keep my wallet full and work retail.
There is the fact that not everyone in the current list of roleplay alliances will want to go for CCP's mess of a system at launch. It may be a decent idea to allow groups to split. It may also be a decent idea to allow alliances to enter the fray, because a two thousand player corp can 'steamroll' something just fine, as others have noted.
Making the system less than flexible will only channel the behavior of anyone wanting to unbalance it into certain trends. It won't solve the problem.
But then, short-sightedness isn't a new thing. Neither is not listening to your customer base because you have a specific pet vision of how your world should work and don't want to admit that a Pavlovian behavioral control scheme was designed for dogs, and thus, won't work on humans - even the degenerates you find online.
If you ring a bell to indicate dinner and the meat paste isn't on hand, CCP, we won't salivate. Most of us will just start to break things. Like those awesome carriers that function as containers for your faction frigs. Aren't they great?

The roleplay community in EVE is about as cliquey as you allow it to be, like the 0.0 community. There is no-one to blame for giving up on that factor of gameplay except yourself, and there's nothing wrong with any possible choice - your decision.
Originally by: MotherMoon right now our allaince fights in 0.0 space yes, but my corp loves to hunt pirates in minmatar low sec with the union forces.

Are you serious? If you're siding with the Matari, you're siding with a semi-nomadic group of expansionists. They'd go to 0.0 for the hell of it in certain circumstances - look at the Thukkers.
Originally by: Lykah Storm RP alliances? Tell me one RP alliance. Unless it's "we play all factions and support all factions and we just shoot all reds"....
Well, for people like you who can't manage any reading comprehension, there's a whole list of them stickied at the top of the recruitment forum. But I guess we can't all have a long enough attention span to pass public school. Originally by: Tissa By the slaver hounds! Etc.

Irrelevant. Roleplay alliances made their own content and their own conflicts (some of which boiled into 0.0) because the mechanics of Eve didn't easily facilitate prime-fiction centered conflict. We never expected CCP to make faction warfare work in 0.0 and that's not what we're asking for now.
We're just frustrated that the measures we took over years of CCP leaving 'roleplay conflict' at the bottom of the priority pile (years of doing precisely what the trolls are saying...adapt, make tough choices, sacrifice, etc) are now going to bite us in the ass now that roleplay conflict in Eve has suddenly become a priority for CCP.
