This is reaching the level of a crime wave. The gankers are no longer even using passive targeters to scan you. I'm getting visibly scanned every time I bring any form of hauler into Jita. This is an annoying constant assault. Its also putting hard limit on how much isk can be shipped that is, I think, lower than what CCP intended. |

Well, referring to an earlier thread about suicide freighters, sadly the general consensus on the forums seem to be either haul less then 700mil in your freighter or bring a gang of 12 remote reppers to counter the 12 Tornados sitting on gate.
I know... sad right. Maybe next time people will think about possible implications before happily accepting the introduction of new ship types. |

You need to whine more to make sure even the last idiot learns what formidable income the Tornado can provide for those who understand what a positive sec status is for.
The game has a tutorial that gives you a mining laser and a railgun and tells you to go shoot rocks and red crosses. It teaches you nothing else. It's been that way for 8 years, so are you really surprised that there are people who aren't aware that this is a pvp game? --Jafit McJafitson |

For a trip to or from any of the other market hubs, not going through Perimiter adds one jump:
From Amarr, go Kaaputenen GåÆ Kamio GåÆ Halaima GåÆ Sarekuwa GåÆ Tunttaras GåÆ Ikuchi/Niyabainen instead of Kaaputenen GåÆ Inaro GåÆ Sirppala GåÆ Urlen GåÆ Perimeter.
From Dodixie or Rens, go for the Uedama GåÆ Ikao GåÆ Kamio (and then proceed as above), rather than turn onto the Uedama GåÆ Juunigaishi GåÆ GǪ GåÆ Perimiter route.
Or hell, just proceed to Perimiter as usual and then, instead of going though the Jita gate, skip over to Niyabainen and go though there instead. Again, +1 jump is all it takes. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

The wardec mechanics have been broken for years and the GMs let it go to trash.
How do you kill someone in highsec? Wardec is no longer a viable option. So what are you left with? Suicide ganking. Follow my EvE blog at: http://cyprusblack.blogspot.com/ |

the only problem with suicide ganking is the punishment is hardly anything. one way to help fix it is make sec status mean something more then "your allowed to enter space"
if you have a 5.0 sec status its the same as someone with a 0.0 sec status.
how bout give people with more then 0 some good stuff?
more bounties from rat kills- or make it so 5.0 = what it is now and less the lower your sec, this means suicide ganking will hurt your income until u get it back up.
more expensive to war dec corps or alliances with higher sec status- the same way corp standings are taken make it so war dec prices are say, 5 times more expensive for the corp/alliance average this will help the war dec griefing issue a bit, and makes a nice isk sink.
faster concord response in highsec- obvious have concord pod people if they are -5.0 or something- tears. |

I get yellow boxed every time I go into/out of Jita. That includs atk. The only time I'm not yellow boxed is when:
a. I'm coming in, in a blockcade runner and am able to cloak on gate, or b. Undocking straight to an insta undock (normally don't bother if I'm empty or have a really low value cargo).
Even then, unless you're in a blockade runner you're unlikely to clear perimeter without being scanned. Getting scanned happens regularly with both a transport ship and an Ity V (really, do you really think I'm moving anything of value in an Ity V).
Getting constantly scanned is annoying. Not as annoying as getting ganked, but having people constantly take the first step to attack you gets old fast.
Honestly I'm guessing no freighter is clearing Jita without a scan (though those might be getting passive scanned so as not to spook you into logging before the gank).
A 10% chance of a scan adds color to the game. A 100% chance of a scan is a problem. |

This would be further helped if wardecs weren't so broken and if they were easier to initiate and harder to shake off.
Suicide ganking exists because it's the only remaining functional avenue of attack, and it works so well because people have become so used to the safety of highsec that they forgot to take even the most basic precautions. Making space less safe would most likely make people more secure, because they would have to learn and employ some more intelligent safety behaviour, which works wonders against suicide ganks. A 700m cap on moving stuff with a freighter makes any good with a value greater than say 1000 isk/m3 difficult to ship (assuming a freighter hold of 700,000 m/3. Trit is going for 4.5 isk/unit right now or 450 isk/m3.
Let me try to get this through your thick skull. Any mod with more than a 2.2 compression factor, just on trit alone, can no longer be efficiently hauled. That's almost every item in the game (except cap boosters).
You kill the ability to ship things then wonder why the game has run away inflation. If you can't ship effectively you go from large industrialists spooling up large jobs to little guys moving in a stack of maybe 100 mods at a time. This is not a good thing for an effective low price point. |

You have a lot of solutions to counter this:
-install your toon somewhere else than jita/rens/amarr (dodixie is meh too)
-try to buy/sell 7 to 10 jumps of those hubs (and believe me your profits will be a lot higher)
-create instant undock safe spots at different distances.
-use cloaky hauler, yes cloacky hauler in high sec is completely god mode travel. Try to catch my viator or crane getting in to or getting out of jita 4-4, good luck Of course you'll be doing your travel with warps at 0 and manually, forget youp++rn k?
-last but non least: unsub with reason: high sec ganking The more there will be doing this the faster something will get donne. It's the only language or discussion CCP understands, the unilateral one. Sure they've done some progress but start a new gallente combat toon from 0 and we'll talk about it after that. |

OP, did you know that there is a ship that has the most EHP of any kind of hauler; that is completely unscannable; that does not drop anything, making it a worthless target and a very poor trade for the 750bn worth of ships required to kill it; and which gets into warp in 10 seconds flat regardless of skillsGǪ

Nothing against hi sec ganking.
But calling it "the only PvP left for hi sec" sounds like someone is as carebear at refusing to go PvP in low / 0.0 sec as those hi seccers they want to kill. Nobody pays you to stay in hi sec, if you find it too restrictive to pew pew in there.
Finally, I think CCP should review the lock times. Like nano-extreme brought a nerf, like super unscannable ships got nerfed, CCP should also make lock times limited to a minimum of 1 simulation heartbeat plus about 100ms for out of UK players. Maybe slap some debilitatingly long lock time penalty on cargo scanners with immunity to sensor boosting if the module is online? I like the idea of being able to cargo scan but putting a gank extraordinaire ship into the game without making it harder to overall to balance things out is silly. I don't always use hax. Sure there are a hundred one trick pony tactics you can use to evade, as many "don't do that" mantra's alive and thriving in EVE but at the end of the day I am reminded of how CCP have shown an eager willingness to coddle free to play dust bunnies but paying Industrials in EVE? You are goon food, go fuckyourself.
High sec neutral suicide is the only 1 to 3 man PvP left in EVE. Bring anything smaller than a 20 man to low sec or null sec and it's less about PvP and more about evasion. I don't much care if they lock me to be honest. It would be nice to rig a ship to counter scanning though. That's where smuggling comes in to play in EVE. Smuggling that never really came about. |

I highly doubt that that gank threshold for a freighter cargo is so low as 700m. For a start, you have that 50% (at best) drop rate. Then you have the 12 or 15 guys who want to actually turn a profit. And then you have the opportunity cost of shooting at a crappy cargo and spending 15 mins watching all the good stuff fly by. And then there are the ninja looters.
I'd say you were ok with 2bill, Much more if its low value high bulk stuff.
And if its compact high value stuff, you shouldn't use a freighter to move it... |

For me the only reason Ive even tried suicide ganking is cuz I got ganked once myself. But yeah its getting BRUTAL even by my standards. Its not a big deal as theres a million and one ways around it and its about knowing the game and the player patterns within it thatll save your bacon the most
Yet given the information out there you can compile a list of targets a mile long, and not only using locator agents but soon you can simply just do it in your head. Beyond that its scan away and get lucky or use spies and intel to know your targets and gank that way
Wealth redistribution if you ask me
What I do wonder is what CCP will do with it in the future. The tornado and the talos are wicked gank ships and fun PvP boats to say the least and the dps increase of the destroyers makes catalysts and thrashers even more deadly solo or in packs and the speed at which either of these ships can be reach is incredibly fast. With the flood of incursion and other isk to keep gankers afloat ganking for profit and lolz to their hearts content even in high sec loot pinatas really dont stand much of a chance anymore
The fact that a corp looking to increase its isk efficiency can just suicide a jump freighter even empty or with minimal cargo or that no mission boat, incursion runner or hauler anywhere is safe from the threat of the gank is going to develop an interesting gaming environment and it already has. Perhaps this is the null designed plan to get more people out of high sec to the "safer" areas of null sec or even low sec to continue to make isk by simply making high sec MORE dangerous than the worst areas of null or low could ever be
The fact that any 30 day noob account in a catalyst can solo gank mackinaws till the cows come home macrominer or not or that hulkaggedon might as well be considered a year long event now as it never seems to start or end now that Mittanis Ice Interdictions have become economic warfare SOPs for the Goons
Theres literally no way around it for anyone as the application of enough DPS to the right resist holes will always spell W-R-E-C-K and the only need to overcome larger buffers or higher resists is to just ad M-O-A-R DPS. And what if an alliance like the Goons would take up positions on all the major trade routes, at all the major hubs, on all the major stations in a continuous "wolfpack" style blockade of high sec? Revolving 'nados and thrashers, catalysts and talos' destroying shipping in the tonnage of the infamous U-boat "Happy Times". Could such a thing bring trade to a grinding halt in high sec? If every hauler, full or empty was simply destroyed en masse
The finances are certainly there, the sheer numbers are there and the tools are certainly within the games scope. Incursions alone could finance such a struggle for months if not years without intervention. But is the will?...... Time will tell of such things. But the gank is here to stay and shall only grow bigger imo as it is always darkest before the break of day. Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. For if one motived willful individual stands many will fall around him that are weak.

That would be fun to watch but would not last. Goons build only a fraction of the ships they lose.

Suicide ganking is part of the game. Eve is a harsh game, not WoW, or STO or any other MMO.
I'm a freighter pilot and industrialist, and I make oodles of money manufacturing and shipping things. Making sure I don't get ganked in my freighter is just part of the game for me. I've learned how to avoid being ganked, sure i get scanned once in a while, if i'm 'pushing it' on my cargo, it means I'll dock immediately somewhere, wait a few hours and then continue my journey. Otherwise, I'll just wave at them, tell them there's nothing to see here, and move on.
It's the most interesting part of Eve for me. the reason I play this game, and continue playing it. The fact that there is always somewhere the threat of losing it all, the fact that accomplishing something in Eve actually is a real accomplishment, and not some hoop you jumped through some devs thought up and gave you a free epic, which is now yours to keep for ever and ever. ( read: until the next exansion when it becomes worthless junk )
Another fun part of being a parttime trader and industrialist is that I supply one and all with stuff, and I get to play 'connect the dots'. Logging on, watching who sold me what kind of stuff that is generally hauled, who bought ganking ships, who bought new hauling ships, etc. then trying to figure out who killed who while I was sleeping and making money.

This is not a good thing for an effective low price point. But it's great for small industrialists and regional market hubs. You're making some very good arguments in favor of suicide ganking.
The problem is that there are two different time frames. 1. Industrial job time which is an AFK activity. 2. Hauling time, which is an (semi-ATK) activity.
Somebody is going to need to haul minerals to the trade hub for the small industrialists. Since this is an atk activity they are going to want to make a certain, inflation adjusted, amount per trip.
Small industrialists want a percentage return for tying their isk in an industry job.
The problem is that industrialists set the inflation base for the game. Mineral prices will rise to reflect the premium on haulage. Because mineral prices rise, the price of goods rises to meet the profit expectations of the producers. Because prices of goods have risen the hauler will ask more for the next shipment of goods. Rinse and repeat for an inflationary spiral. |

You couldn't possibly have your clone set somewhere near the place you're ganking!
Nerf that.
Actually, there's an idea we've been kicking around the office lately. I would going to present it formally at some point, but I suppose this is as good a circumstance as any:
Popups for everything.
"Someone's trying to scan you. Do you want to allow this?" "Someone has wardecced your corp. Is this okay with you?" "Someone wants to warp scramble you. May he?"
I think it's pretty well in line with the direction CCP is after. Let me know what you think. Maybe we can get it squeezed into Inferno. |

Part of the problem is the punishment system has a lot to be desired. Taking insurance payouts from gankers were just common sense but imo doesn't really go far enough.
Imortals should have a better punishment system than the one Eve has. For instance, when your in high sec and you blow up another citizen or kill them you shouldn't just be given the current "Community service" punishment that is currently in place. What kind of punishment is chain killing a few priates in low or null? You can get sec status back up in hours/ days, then go right back to killing people inside of the factions space.
One thing to do is not only should the person take a sec status hit, they should take a hit to all corporations/ factions the victim had good standings with, the hit should be based on how good of standings the victim had with said corps/ faction. They should also be banished from that factions space for a time limit, increasing with each offense, say a 3 strike rule. Say strike one is a weeks banishment, strike two a months banishment, strike three perma ban from that factions space where they are KOS to everyone. During the banishment period clone contracts in that area should also be revoked.
This will not make high sec totally safe, but it would require gankers to decide the risk verse reward, and would make more sense in a "highly evolved" society.
Sure people will make ganking alts, but thats just eve. As it is null is safer than high sec and doesn't even adress low sec, but with people being banished from high sec, at least after time the population would grow in low waiting to gank high and null sec dwellers as they pass through.
That being said, the risk verse reward needs to be totally revamped for all area's of space. (As though we don't know that)

Antimatter Charge M = 3920 isk/m3 (using lowest Forge price). EMP M = 3920 ism/m3 (give or take a couple of isk). Hammerhead I = 2889 isk/m3
The gank limit is currently around 1000isk m/3 (For 700mil in drop from 700K of cargohold).

Simple, if people want pvp then go to low-sec. High-sec is suppose to be a safe haven for all those that want to play the none-pvp side of eve. Or maybe low-sec is to much of a challenge for all of these so-called pvpers. |

Haha no it's not. If CCP didn't want ganks in high-sec they would remove the ability to activate offensive mods against other players. The artist formerly known as Ladie Scarlet. |

When did it become the norm in mmorpgs that when the going gets tough players run to the devs to change the rules? I can understand it in a little kids game like WoW but good old Eve?! Why can't folks adapt to the environment? Other players can, why can't you? I know this is the entitlement generation but man you come to a game like Eve because it is a bit tougher than any game out there. That's is why most of us came to this game, the long gone steep learning curve, rl newsworthy scams, the last bastion of fairly ruthless pvp outside of muds but the moment adaption needs to take place I read another post asking the devs to change the rules. Very depressing. |

Would crime not be discouraged by any society? There would still be ganking, there would still be can flipping, there would still be baiting, and if they fix the war dec system there would still be wars, not to mention fw. You would just have to pick targets a little more carefully based on value or to cut enemy supply lines.
And bots don't typically have any sort of standings twoards any faction or corporation, so there would be little to no hit in those cases. |

I am a carebear, and I support suicide-ganking. It makes EVE a cruel and dangerous universe. I lost over 1b in stock from a suicide gank last year, but dusted myself off. I now have 5b in assets after a month. Please refer to this thread. If you are after a risk-free way of earning virtual money, just play a normal business sim and reload after every loss.
I am a carebear, and I support suicide-ganking
Quote:Last week, I logged in shortly after downtime and saw that a courier contract I had put up earlier was still lying unfulfilled. Being the impatient pup that I was, I decided to haul the goods myself in a T1 industrial. All 1b ISK worth of goods. Since downtime only ended recently, the online population was "only" 5,000 so I figured the chances of avoiding a suicide-gank were good.
How wrong I was. Four jumps out of Jita, I suddenly found myself floating in a pod, 1b poorer. That 1b represented over half of my assets and I naturally asked myself the question every victim of a suicide-gank asks himself - "Should I continue playing this game?"
I exited, swore to myself to never play EVE again, opened up LOTRO and began the PVE grind in Middle Earth. After five minutes, I realised that accomplishments in games like WoW and LOTRO don't really mean anything. Since death is "risk-free" in these games, all accomplishments do is signify the time you spent in these games.
Not so in EVE. While accomplishments in EVE do require time as well, they also demand SKILL and INTELLIGENCE. If you lack the latter, this game will brutally punish you. Thus accomplishments in EVE are far more meaningful than in games like WoW or LOTRO. A mistake in WoW will only cost you inconvenience and a tiny bit of gold to repair your equipment. A mistake in EVE can cost everything.
It is this brutality that makes EVE so much more enticing. When you achieve something, you really achieve it. Suicide-gankers ensure there is no real safe zone in EVE. Success in EVE is earned, not given.
To all the suicide-gankers out there, thank you for making EVE an interesting place. |

With the current mechanics, you lose a ship, you don't get an insurance payout, and you take a sec status hit regardless of whether you kill the target or not. You will not stop complaining about suicide ganking until you simply cannot target another ship in high-sec. "WeGÇÖre a professional Merc Alliance, like PL" ~ snot shot, 2012 |

I think you have hit on the core of the problem there. The more rules you make the more overburdened a system becomes. And the more likely you make it that someone will find a way around those rules.
I still think they should remove CONCORD, implement NPC defensive ships that match the capabilities of player ships to defend NPC space (With realistically escalating numbers in the face of a larger threat) and allow corporations to defend their own space. Let the player population defend their own and take control of the sandbox in that way.

I got suicide ganked yesterday. Delightful experience. Funny now but wasn't impressed at the time. My tengu got hit by 5 thrashers and a rupture. Pilots had -9.x type sec status. Killboard revealed they ganked 2 other tengus in the preceeding hour. Neither had a single faction mod. I had minimal faction gear.
It appears players (with bad sec status) can take out a series of ships in high sec with essentially no penalty.
So why is it called high sec? How about a name change (or penalty)? 'Gank sec' lol?
I've lost SP in pvp and pve but losing SP to a suicide gank is rude.
Suicide ganking isn't combat. It shouldn't boost kill records. Moreover, if the target hasn't heard of suicide ganking then it isn't even pvp.

It's easy to blame game designers for making the mechanics allow suicide ganking (which is fine) rather than the idiots who fly loot pinatas through camped gates. They lose their ships, their lossmails top eve-kill and people start to smell blood in the water and position gank fleets along popular pipes hoping for lucrative targets who will then whine on the forums when they realize that this is actually a PvP game. It's actually the exact opposite: Highsec is supposed to be a PvP arena, and if you don't want to PvP, you should get out of highsec. Of course, since low- and nullsec are pvp arenas as well, this rather leaves the question of where you should get out to. The answer is rather simple: there is no non-pvp side of EVE GÇö if you want one, I would suggest playing on sisi, where unprovoked attacks actually aren't (entirely) allowed.
Jas Dor wrote:Here's a quick list of things that can no longer be moved by the freighterload
When a freighter can not move a full cargohold of T1 ammo or T1 drones something has gone horribly wrong. Good thing, then, that a freighter can move a full cargoholds of T1 ammo or T1 drones without any issues. The problem here is that your numbers are nonsense. First of all, for a 700M drop from 700k cargo hold, the cargo has to be worth 2000 ISK/m-¦. Second of all, even at that price, you're looking at 200M profit split over 10GÇô15 people. That's less than 20M profit per person, so it's not going to happen at that price either. Thirdly, even at 4k ISK/m-¦ , having a freighter of your own sitting around to get all that loot is a bad idea GÇö it's too slow to catch up to the semi-random position of the wreck (not just where it spawns, but where the ship lands), and it is itself an easy target for ganks GÇö so you're looking at filling up maybe 30-40k worth of loot space in something far nippier, which means we're back to only earning 160M profit (10-15M per person) so it's still not going to happen. At 8,000 ISK/m-¦, we're getting close to where it might be conceivably become a worth-while and somewhat profitable effort, and even then, it's not a good return on investment.
So let's bump that number to 16,000 ISK/m-¦ (that's 10bn+ for a full freighter) to ensure that you are a 100% worth-while target, and see what you can find that's worth that muchGǪ
Tangodude wrote:It appears players (with bad sec status) can take out a series of ships in high sec with essentially no penalty.
As others have pointed out, you were flying one of the flimsiest ships in the game so very little in the way of valuable cargo or fittings is required to make up for the dirt-cheap ships needed to get the kill. The problem isn't that there are no penalties GÇö it's that you are an easy target and that you've decided to waive the penalties. You are the one who's supposed to deliver a large portion of those penalties, and if you choose not to, then you have kind of forfeited your right to complain that there are noneGǪ
Why is it called highsec? Because its defining feature (that aggression costs) attempts to appeal to people's miserliness to make them reticent to attack other players for no good reason, and as a result of this reticence, security is higher in this portion of space than in the other portions. Now, if you fly a ship that ensures that there will be no foreseeable loss (or, worse, a predictable gain) from the attack, and also ensure that there will be no foreseeable loss in the future either, by give the perception of belonging to a set of players that will not take revenge, then you have broken down all the barriers that highsec puts up to dissuade people from attacking you. You have created your own little pocked of personal low-sec.
The name GÇ£highsecGÇ¥ is not misleading GÇö it's just that you approach living in it in a way that means it no longer applies to you. Change your flying style, change your tactics, change your attitude, and suddenly it will.
Oh, and unless you spontaneously combust just because someone locks your ship, it most certainly is combat. Your participation (and most certainly not your willingness to participate) isn't really a relevant factor. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

I'll admit, I haven't been in game in awhile and had not heard of that term, it looks like meta-gaming to me. (I have my own opinion about that, but thats another discussion)
There used to be many null alliances and corps that allowed noob pilots and unexperienced pvp'ers to hang out in their systems, learn PvP getting used to the risk vs reward, but that was mostly destroyed during the great wars. People were welcomed as long as they weren't d!cks. (ISS for example)
After that people tended to huddle in high sec more, and differen't aspects of the game became broken as a result.
So now every solution creates a problem else where, so fixes have to be applied to fixes. So who is to blame for differen't mechanics being broken?
Now note: I am not advocating PvP free as some are. I am just adding to the discussion on what could be done to get people into 0.0 to 0.4 so there is more pew pew |

Increased suicide ganking just threatens that game imo, as their are many players that get their enjoyment of the game from a zero-pvp perspective, blowing them up is just going to get them to unsub. They have no interest in pvp, regardless how many times you try to force it upon them, they want to do all the things you label as boring.
Pretty pointless complaining about it on these forums though, as they are mostly populated by people that collect tears, and ganking their biggest generator. So unsubscribing with the reason "high-sec ganking" might be the only true way to do anything about it. |

And so unfortunatly this will stay in a never ending circle.
I'm personally waiting to see what the fix will be to war dec mechanics.
I still think even after re-vamping the war dec system there will still be the same whines, just a differen't day and in a differen't way.
Until 0.0 alliances allow unaffiliated pilots to fly with them and learn that 0.0 isn't really all that scary without forcing them to join up, only to find out they are suddenly in a great war, sudden mandatory 3 hour ops, "You best not be in high sec while we have op's going on" or what ever, then there will always be a segment that won't go, or will find any loop hole possible to avoid it. This doesn't even cover the "Oh yeah, you can come hang out in our space for X iskies" only to suddenly find themselves podded.
EDIT: I should also add that even then some will not want to partake in any PvP, but the point is to make them the very small minority rather than the majority. If it's only a small minority, then whats broken?
The problems lie in the way the sandbox has developed. But of course this is simply my opinion. |

EVE is a game where EVERYTHING is supposed to be a form of pvp, if its killing someone, or mining the rocks out from under them, or undercutting their prices on the markets.
Essentially, any activity you can thing of with no risk and no competition does not belong in eve(Ice mining is the biggest thing that comes to mind, what with the fact that the floating ice blocks spew forth infinite cubes of frozen fuel, followed by mission running, 2 things most ganked) and most things, when looked at as a pvp activity instead of mindless grinding for more isk, are much more profitable.
If you don't like pvp, get out of eve, because thats all there is supposed to be in this game, even if it is competition over resources and not direct ganking(which is a resource denial tool) Inappropriate signature removed, CCP Phantom. |

I suppose it's time for this piece of copy-pasta again. While it's more a response to the request for a PvP-switch, it's relevant here was well:
A "no PvP" switch in EVE would have to have at least the following restrictions: -+ You can obviously no longer lock any player ship. -+ You can no longer activate any kind of AoE weaponry or module. -+ You can no longer use the market, contracts or the trading window. -+ You can no longer access or manage POSes and their services. -+ You can no longer mine. -+ You can no longer shoot rats. -+ You can no longer open any kind of container in space. -+ You can no longer use the on-board scanner or scan probes. -+ You can no longer be in a fleet. -+ You can no longer use salvagers. -+ You can no longer access the industry interface. -+ You can no longer access player-sovereign systems. -+ You can no longer access free-floating permanent sites in space.
Now, somehow I don't think that the people who want to enjoy this GÇ£zero-pvpGÇ¥ EVE are having this set of restrictions in mind, but that is actually what they're asking for. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

Altho i have to agree that number of suicide gankers is pretty low compared to those who do not engage in such activities.
And basically more people will engage in such, less people to gank and everyone is sad panda afterwards. Or happy because no more ganking but regular warfare across the universe. |

As an industrialist player who enjoys getting ganked every once in a while, I endorse ganking as long as it is used for personal gains like trying to claim a belt or a local market or trying to collect faction mods from wrecks that can be sold for profit. Of course, I have a different set of standards regarding bots as I feel that ganking bots should be surgically precise and not blindly shoot any miner in sight as legitimate players shouldn't suffer because someone next to them cheated in the game. What a nice thread, cleary going nowhere :)
I never understood why people cry so much about carebears and whatever while hanging desperatly on them like parasites, you know unable to live without them... also to quote Tenebrae Syrennis "Get out of our game, you over-entitled pathetic willing victims" sounds indeed more than curious to me. "Get out of our game" ? Our?
From my perspective, and if it-¦s true that you can be ganked that often and easily, there is indeed a problem. It-¦s a pretty simple math for the gankers, is the target worth the ship losses, then engage. They lose their ship and sec status. The insurance doesn-¦t pay the ship and once they are below a certain level, they can be attacked without consequences. Everythings fine. (Except maybe, is there really no way of escaping concorde? Automatical loss is somehow boring...) AND everything would be fine if those gankers wouldn-¦t be just throw away alts, so sec status doesn-¦t really bother them...
The changes I would enforce are probably those tending towards player courage and against Alt usage... If high secers cannot deal with -5 outlaws, shame on them. Gankers should loose sec status much faster, maybe proportional to their activity. Commit a crime in high sec, you loose status, commit a second crime within a certain time span, you loose much more status and again with a third crime... One got to -5 real quick and then has to deal with the pimped carebear ships. Outlaw Alts would have to be recycled much quicker and therefore less of fun...
On the downside, if you wanna experience this type of game, and you-¦re the type of I got one main that-¦s it player, you have a hard time coming clean with the empire... maybe there has to be some sort of absolution...
all this well you know, in case there is really a problem, which I don-¦t know. |

Quote:(Except maybe, is there really no way of escaping concorde? Automatical loss is somehow boring...) No, evading CONCORD is automatically an exploit. There is no legitimate way of doing it, and should you find some quirk of doing it within the current mechanics, it would be considered a bug, and you're back to it being an exploit.
It's an automatic loss because it's simply a mechanic to define highsec: in highsec, aggression costs. You can either pay this cost through a wardec or through the loss of your ship GÇö either way, you have to pay.
Quote:everything would be fine if those gankers wouldn-¦t be just throw away alts, so sec status doesn-¦t really bother them... Most gankers don't use throw-away alts GÇö it takes too much time to make one that's worth-while for any serious ganking, and there is no need to ditch a low-sec-status character. The low sec status doesn't bother them because people refuse to take advantage of it, not because you they can recycle the characters (and doing so isn't allowed anyway).
If the gankers were forced to start using throw-away alts because people started to mass-murder them as soon as they got below -5, the desired effect would have been reach anyway, since the gankers are now limited in what they can attack. This is not a good thing for an effective low price point. But it's great for small industrialists and regional market hubs. You're making some very good arguments in favor of suicide ganking. The problem is that there are two different time frames 1. Industrial job time which is an AFK activity 2. Hauling time, which is an (semi-ATK) activity Somebody is going to need to haul minerals to the trade hub for the small industrialists. Since this is an atk activity they are going to want to make a certain, inflation adjusted, amount per trip Small industrialists want a percentage return for tying their isk in an industry job The problem is that industrialists set the inflation base for the game. Mineral prices will rise to reflect the premium on haulage. Because mineral prices rise, the price of goods rises to meet the profit expectations of the producers. Because prices of goods have risen the hauler will ask more for the next shipment of goods. Rinse and repeat for an inflationary spiral.
The last I checked, minerals need to be at manufacturing facilities for industrialists to use them, not trade hubs. The only reason to buy minerals in a trade hub is that you can buy in huge quantities, which small industrialists don't need to do. You actually pay a premium for minerals at trade hubs, as I'm sure you're aware.
If hauling minerals to Jita becomes less profitable due to ganking, why wouldn't small scale producers actually see a decrease in mineral prices on their local markets?
If I were a small scale highsec producer, I'd consider sponsoring suicide gankers, and possibly getting together with other small scale producers to sponsor widespread ganking along all the main trade routes. In fact, that sounds pretty fun |

As it is null is safer than high sec and doesn't even adress low sec, but with people being banished from high sec, at least after time the population would grow in low waiting to gank high and null sec dwellers as they pass through. But, that's me. I'm a sucker for punishment
Being EVE is a player driven game, what about the idea of adding human players to help Concord in high sec? You'd have to jump through some hoops to satisfy the accepting requirements, then you can fly your own ships, enjoy certain privileges in high sec, including the ability to "call" concord ships [faster than regular arrival time] to help out when "arresting" criminals.
You'd get a flashy designation in local with a nifty title, but that title wouldn't do you any good in low sec or 0.0 as a matter of fact you'd probably be targeted out because of it, and you cannot be in a 0.0 alliance while being in Concord Police Defense Force [or some other jaded nifty moniker]
I think it'd add a new dimension to the PvP scenario in high sec, so you have suicide gankers in jita, but you'd also have a squad of human players ready to pounce just waiting for the transgressors to pull the trigger so they can happily blow them to oblivion. |

Yes, Orcas can save a BC or smaller gank-ship from Concord.
Not condoning it, but I reckon if you are killing botters, I don't see anything wrong with fighting exploits with exploits.
*Hypothetically speaking*, I'd say you could probably go about it like this....
1. Orca alt drops a gank-Tornado at a safe spot, then cloaks up. 2. -10 Alt boards Tornado, and warps to target. 3. -10 Alt destroys target, then immediately warps back to cloaked Orca. 4. On landing, -10 Alt ejects, then Orca scoops Tornado into Maint. Bay before Faction Police/Concord lock on. 5. Orca moves to new safe without NPCs around and Cloaks. 6. Rinse and repeat killing new bot every 15 minutes.
Botters are unlikely to petition (nobody to see it) - and bystanders see nothing but a routine drive-by gank. The Orca is only visible on scans for seconds. Without a petition I reckon its highly unlikely a GM would notice.
Disclaimer: Yeah, I wouldn't do it, as its a violation of EULA. But A) after I actually SUBMITTED petitions and reporting the same botters for months and months and seeing nothing done - doubt rule enforcement is high priority for CCP. (I've heard rumors of bans being handed out, until I see some ice-bot families disappear its merely a dog and pony show for Fanfest.)
and B) CCP has stated that even botters are getting three strikes, (if anything at all) - so I wouldn't worry about getting much more than a warning or a temp ban.
***Alternatively, a perfectly legal variation to save costs on ganking: (I DO condone this, BTW, as it is *not* an exploit)
T2 Fit a Tornado, gank, fly to Orca - then 'unfit' the 1400MM T2 guns into the Orca's corp hangar before Concord arrives. Don't bother wasting time with the fitting window: just quickly drag and drop mods directly from the UI to the Orca Corp Hangar.
Each gun saved is 4-5M ISK and you can do this even while locked down and neuted by Concord. Then bolt those T2 1400MM Arties directly onto a brand new hull.

In most circumstances, no they don't. But as he said, CCP drags their ass like every MMO company when it comes to bots and the longer they are left alone the more damage they do and the more people start to use them. Now if they had a time limit on npc corps that forced botters to make a war decable corp then it would be easy peasy to kill them but as it stands there isn't much that can be done except for concord workarounds. I don't always use hax. But when I do, it's because I'm an NPC.. http://i.imgur.com/PUZou.jpg

True. But its all just SISI theorycrafting, so whatever.
Really, its best left to the individual ganker to decide if using Tornados in such a fashion to kill botters violates their personal ethics.
Oh, and up to CCP to fix their game mechanics.

Ok lets point them out.
Suicide ganking miners can make you more money then pvping in low sec is one example. The motivation to go into null sec compared to the risk and the downside of going there is also one of the reason why the current system fails.
And saying that it is fun to go into null sec to blow up ships is not really a valid reason.
Sure there is loot in null sec like faction loot only you wont be the only to try and get that, so the risk vs the isk you make isnt compared to the risk for the same amount of isk in high sec.
You can be in incursions all day and probably make more isk without losing your ship and without giving up +4+5 implant skill training speed.

That's amazing, considering how much the guns cost compared to the hull/other modules.

Depends. If the wrecks were salvaged there were no markers. The undock at many of the empire missioning hubs is busy! If there are 140 people in system it takes a big gang on the undock to rise beyond the level of normal traffic. |

Personally I think that suicide ganking as a game mechanic is fine as it stands currently. I don't believe its an "epidemic" issue really.
What we could do with however is a legitimate way of responding as part of the player policing aspects in the game to address the criminal activity, at least if anything to "increase" the level of PvP and add some needed fun back into the game. At least that seems to be one of the messages I'm getting in this thread. So ...
For PvP and like to encourage more of it?
Actually like situations where ships shoot back and "really" improve your KB resume?
You agree that pilots should adapt to challenging situations in EvE where acceptance of risk is an everyday seperator of those getting ahead on the curve?

Fair has nothing to do with it. You blow up a ship, their are consequences. There are consequences for you, consequences for the victim and consequences for the market. Unfortunately the unseen hand of economics has decided that it is going to beat you senseless until you stop blowing up so many haulers/barges. Inflation will stop, once it makes suicide ganking non-viable. Until it does an increasing risk premium will get built into prices.

This is actually true. The players not ready for the harsh world of EVE don't like it and will leave. The ones that really are up for the game (and with that all game mechanics) stick around.
It has been a really really long time ago that I lost a ship to a suicide gank. Mainly cause I adapted to how EVE works, I never ship really expensive stuff around in ships that are too fragile for the cargo. And if I ship expensive stuff around, I already consider it lost the second I move my mouse to the undock button. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station.
If you don't like pvp, get out of eve, because thats all there is supposed to be in this game, even if it is competition over resources and not direct ganking(which is a resource denial tool)
Yeah ive heard this arguement many, many times, and completely disagree. There are tons of players that live in high sec, and enjoy playing eve for all the things that aren't pvp. Remember the term "pvp" isn't unique to eve. Its a term used in all mmo's to describe situations where players are fighting against players. Whereas its true that eve is unique in the sense that everything is player driven, such as the economy, that doesnt mean that everyone is doing pvp similtaniously all the time. I've got friends that dont even undock, as crazy as that sounds, prefectly happy playing the market and making insane spreadsheets to add their crazy-high isk levels. He laughs at such arguments, saying how awesome he is at pvp everytime he makes a bunch of mining vessles.
For pvp to happen in eve, you need ships exploding, simple as. Its the mentaility of low and null-sec players constantly screaming "pvp only game!" while blowing up mostly defenceless targets in high-sec that have no interest in that side of the game that is ultimately harming eve's growth. What reason do carebears have to naturally advance to other areas under these circumstances?
I guess you guys argue so strongly to justify these actions because you love their tears, cause it makes you easy isk, and they they dont tend to shoot back. Well i guess you can give yourself a nice big pat on the back for being so awesome.
Personally i think eve is awesome because it allows both sides of this agreument to enjoy the game. Who cares what makes you love eve, as long as you keep playing and paying. But many people on these forums seem determined to attack those that dont share their narrow view of eve.
And no, as usual, i have to put in the standard "im not a carebear living in empire" addition, just to avoid flamage. Personally, i love a bit of pvp!

Odd, I consider all of EVE to be Player versus Player. There is, as you say, the combat aspect. But, when I have run a mission and sold the salvage and modules to the lowest buy order; some player placed that buy-order and is profiting off my laziness. That player "beat" me at the market game. Same for traders. Same for Incursion competition. Same for miners competing on the market. I've struggled, perhaps because of my limited experience, to find something in EVE where there is no competition between players. But it seems foolish to me to see PVP as pure combat as it encompasses so much more.

I've handled high end moon mineral sales for a 0.0 corp before. Your small buy order isn't enough to change the course of a dyspo freighter over. Besides those minerals are simply landing (one jump in), they are being JFed to a quite low sec entry system and scouted through a back route to Jita. Once they arrive they're getting dumped on a Jita buy order, the profit booked, and any amounts due the alliance paid.
I suppose some guys running a mining alt might drop Zyd on your buy orders. Really though nobody is rerouting a high end hauler for your small buy orders. Those things go like a bat out of hell for Jita.
Also buying significantly over market does not help the inflation problem in EvE. |

Not what I'm saying at all. Actually I'm saying two things. 1) The level of ship scanning going on is absolutely ridiculous. This has gone from color to crime wave. 2) Eventually the invisible hand is going to beat the eve market senseless and leave it bleeding in a ditch unless something is done to bring down transaction costs.
To this I should add point 3) If transaction costs do not decrease hyperinflation will continue until PvP in its multiple forms becomes unsupportable. This is the market imparting the RL lesson that lawlessness is a bad thing on your skull. Only by having a special area with hardcoded protections is PvP able to exist. If there were not systemically safe areas the risk premium for goods would render PvP economically unfeasible. (And the failure of EvE along with almost every other unrestricted PvP game out there would become somebodies economics dissertation). By having a safe area with reasonably easy access from unsafe areas, PvP using items built at the safe area price becomes economically possible.
So no I don't hate PvP. I just think most PvPers would cut their own economics throats for a killmail, even if it resulted in null/WH becoming the wasteland the lowsec is.
BTW your alliances (for the Goon poster) holds spaces because other alliances did not understand risk premiums and put price controls on their markets. |

It's also funny how miners pretend what they do is PVE, when in fact they're PVP'ing over who can hoover up the rocks first, thereby getting the most profit. I can't tell you how many times an American high-sec miner has shown up at a belt during Prime Time just to find them all mined out by the Euros. Really, I can't.
The same goes for marketeering and Obelisks. How many people didn't get a good deal because you bought out the market to fill your stupid pinata? As if that's PVE content, or even remotely "altruistic" in a "caring" sense. Even Incursion runners are guilty of an abstract and malevolent form of PVP.
Pretty much any ISK-intensive activity that's "protected" within high-sec is PVP of a type that's much more dastardly and nefarious than destroying somebody's boat (no matter how valued) at the cost of your own. These people destroy the very value of the ISK other players in Eve earn and the cost they want to pay for this privelege is absolutely nothing.

Oh, and you do understand that the transaction costs you talk about are not really a contributing factor to inflation, right? High sec is a limited PvP arena, because CCP decided so. Those who are fine with it, pew pew and prosper. Those who wish to unlock the full game are free to go where it's unlocked. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Finally, I think CCP should review the lock times. Like nano-extreme brought a nerf, like super unscannable ships got nerfed, CCP should also make lock times limited to a minimum of 1 simulation heartbeat plus about 100ms for out of UK players.
Suicide gank is a lesser kind of PvP, I can see the obvious economic effects (i.e. getting 10 PLEX off a badger) but as pure PvP player I don't see the intellectual / skill challenge or the feeling of victory in doing it.
Since 2009 I don't have much game time so I had to stop EvE *ships* PvP (I play the markets and industry PvP these days), so I play other games a la DAOC / Darkfall Online and similar (Guild Wars 2 for me next). Even in those, the age of the "fair, solo brawl" are over.
MMOs have gone from an elite, super small and committed player base to a streamlined, mainstream, broad, casual playerbase. The latter don't have skill or highly effective tactics, so the cult for the blob has born.
Every game these days has blob vs 1 or blob vs blob, it's not just EvE.
Depending on the game, however, it's still possible to setup 1v1 to 6v6 (even with video shots!) just by talking with the opponents over forums / voice comms etc. In EvE it's harder and it's a reason why I don't have the time to do it here.
The blob vs blob has been understood and dealt with, by most other PvP games. EvE has no controlled "battlegrounds" or game facilities where top corps can prove themselves and get prizes / brags. The only one is the yearly tournament.
See how cool it would be if such thing was always available, maybe with an ELO-derived system? And the top corps end up being the one chosen for the official EvE tournament.

You do know markets are based on supply and demand. If you demand stuff at a certain station and the price is right, they suppliers will move it too your station and not Jita.
Mainly people are just buying and selling in Jita because they are lazy and know Jita is market heaven. But if you want rare mineral, just set up buy orders above Jita prices on the border with low-sec/0.0 and people will supply you, null-sec people already take time off to ship it to empire. They will be happy if it means only having to go 1 jump into high-sec instead of a long trip to Jita as it means they can be back in 0.0 doing fun stuff sooner I've handled high end moon mineral sales for a 0.0 corp before.
Who said small SELL orders, as you are selling you set up sell orders. And I stock up everything till there is a fair amount to be sold. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Xen Solarus wrote:Tallian Saotome wrote: EVE is a game where EVERYTHING is supposed to be a form of pvp, if its killing someone, or mining the rocks out from under them, or undercutting their prices on the markets.
First off, go look at my killboard and see if I fall in the ganker category. I'll wait.
Ok, your back? Then we can address the rest. Do you think you are not competing with other players when you use the market, or when you mine, or go ratting? You are taking resources away from someone else who wanted them when you do these activities. This was a stated design goal of EVE from day 1, that everything you do be a form a pvp. Don't believe me? Go look it up, I'll wait again.
Done yet? Good. Now to explain tears. Your post is full of them. There is nothing funnier to alot of us(I include myself there because I have my own methods of tear harvesting without highsec ganks) than someone coming on the forums, or sending an evemail, that so very clearly conveys just how made you got over something stupid, that is ultimately your own fault. Every post you make like the above just makes us happier. Inappropriate signature removed, CCP Phantom. |

Exploits are exploits, PERIOD.
Game ruleset provides you the ability to kill whatever in high sec but at the cost of losing the ship used in the gank.
If you don't lose the ship then you are on the same level of botters.
Moreover, those T2 arties were the instrument used to achieve the gank. Without them you'd not kill him. A kill is a transaction where you used a certain setup, that's the setup CONCORD will kill. Circumventing it is certainly worth asking GMs with a petition, it's really shady. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Theft in EVE is a personal matter GÇö if someone steals from you (or your corp), it's up to you to exact revenge. You can already take revenge on those making the hit (in fact, they would probably be delighted if more people tried), and while you could conceivably go after the pick-up men as well, constant carebear-whining has greatly diminished the ability to do so. Even so, there is still plenty of opportunity to tweak your nose at the gankers: just beat them to the punch and steal their theft from right under them.
What you're suggesting makes no sense because of the vast implications it would have and the dampers it would put on already well-regulated activities that, if anything, need to be encouraged. But again - multiplayer does not mean PvP
It means you interact with other players. In EVE you can do so by shooting other players in the face with ship cannons and take their stuff - and I'm fin with that. I want to able to do so always - BUT with the current game rules - it's FARE to easy, and no challenge. I would love it to be harder and more of a challenge - then I would start doing it again

This is pretty much the bottom line.
If you got suicide ganked in Empire, then you were either lazy, careless or ignorant. In which case it is absolutely right and proper that you lost your ship and your cargo.
Learn to pilot your ships. Learn to fit your ships. Learn to choose the appropriate ship. Learn to use the in game tools available to you (map, scanner, bookmarks, cloak-MWD, scouting, local, intel channels, etc etc etc)
If you do the above, your risk of being ganked drops to essentially zero. |

There are a lot who disagree and I'd be one of those disagreeing about ganking when you mine/haul and there's nothing you can do to prevent a 25M Thrashers gang to pop you before concord kicks their arse. The f++cking mining barge aligns and warps out that fast that a single Thrasher could almost do 2 trips to the closest system and come back to finish it, that is what is ridiculous.
It's not really ganking, it's the counters that are close to 0 and have a tower building wall on their back, no way to ascape close to 0 tools to counter other than: not mine, not haul. The ganker has dozens of tools to achieve is goal, the miner the hauler once he put everything on his side to avoid getting ganked or minimise his loss he's still an easy prey because someone somewhere just because he can and no matter the isk effort put in will be able to achieve his goal, and this is what is wrong with ganking and high sec.
An overtanked orca in low/null it's ok they're bait or silly so you either engage your forces and take the risk of getting hotdroped or you engage and profit of a silly guy. An overtanked Orca that can't survive a 100man gank in high sec show that Concord it's a stupid game mechanic. |

Tippia - by your logic - minecraft is a PvP game And we can all just do what we like.....
That is not true at all - we all have to follow the game rules - As I cannot just build a ship that can haul more than 10K and still defend itself - they dont excist. And there is NO ship in EVE that cannot be ganked. It is all down to how CCP sets up the rules - and nothing else. The current rules are just clearly in favour of attackers in HS.
Ofcourse, one can argue that is fine. What do we need ore, items and ships for anyway?
CCP is a company that needs to look after it's players wishes - and if most people are happy with the things are - keep the rule. If not - change it. Otherwise expect most players to leave long term - and this will in turn kill EVE (Just like the NEX issue)
Game rules should ALWAYS be improved to the player base's wishes. Be it some old rules regards Concord or the NEX. Otherwise the game will grow "old" or seen as bad, and players will leave.
Fair enough that you and others like the current rules - also fair enough a lot of others dont. Crying about that they just need to accept that current rules as they are. How obstinately is that ? Plus as usefull as *BIP*
Anyways - what do I care - I'm fine either way, and am fairly sure CCP is already working on the HS rules as it is. And I'm willing to bet that they are not going to make it easier to gank, but more likely harder :D |

Indeed it's a very very clever activity in Eve, if everything else could be that hard to do Eve would be much better.

There are a lot who disagree and I'd be one of those disagreeing about ganking when you mine/haul and there's nothing you can do to prevent a 25M Thrashers gang to pop you before concord kicks their arse. The f++cking mining barge aligns and warps out that fast that a single Thrasher could almost do 2 trips to the closest system and come back to finish it, that is what is ridiculous
It's not really ganking, it's the counters that are close to 0 and have a tower building wall on their back, no way to ascape close to 0 tools to counter other than: not mine, not haul The ganker has dozens of tools to achieve is goal, the miner the hauler once he put everything on his side to avoid getting ganked or minimise his loss he's still an easy prey because someone somewhere just because he can and no matter the isk effort put in will be able to achieve his goal, and this is what is wrong with ganking and high sec
An overtanked orca in low/null it's ok they're bait or silly so you either engage your forces and take the risk of getting hotdroped or you engage and profit of a silly guy An overtanked Orca that can't survive a 100man gank in high sec show that Concord it's a stupid game mechanic.
1. You're exaggerating the align speed of mining barges. They're not that slow
2. You are correct to assume that ganking for profit is a valid tactic. Even ganking for control of a belt is still considering ganking for profit as it directly effects the local market
3. Of course an overtanked Orca can never survive a 100-man gank in high-sec space. It's 100 ships versus 1 for crying out loud. That's the equivalent of a single battleship being hotdropped by a blob. In fact, 25 ships is usually considered a blob already by most null-sec alliances. Therefore you presented a scenario in which it is impossible for an Orca to survive just like how a shuttle has no chance against a Thrasher fleet in null-sec. Welcome to Eve Online. Don't expect people to be nice to you. |

So much fail in one post.
If the mining barge align times impact you in any way, you are doing it wrong. Anyone with half a brain cell mines aligned to a safe spot/starbase. If you aren't, it is your fault if a gank is successful.
I dont think I have EVER seen more than 6 or 7 people suicide ganking, certainly not 25 - you only need a handful of people to take down a barge or a hauler, maybe 6 to take out a freighter - why would 25 people throw ships and sec status away for no real reason?
There are good counters to ganking, just because you are too incompetant to use them does not mean they dont exist. Warping to 0 and insta-jumping (as well as having a scout alt to avoid gate camps near the main hubs) all but removes the possibility of being ganked while hauling in a freighter. If you get ganked in an industrial, you are truly crap at Eve.
As I said earlier, being aligned when mining means you are 100% safe from ganking. The time it takes to go from stationary to warping when already aligned is shorter than the time it takes for the ganker to select and target you, and then to actually pop you. You will be almost at warp before the ganker has fully come out of warp, so they will not have the time to launch a single volley at you - as long as you are good. Lazy, semi afk miners are free killmails.
A 100 man gank would destroy anything, with the exception of titans, probably supercarriers too. Nothing wrong with that at all, if someone brings enough dps then anything should be able to die.

If you don't lose the ship then you are on the same level of botters. You cheated.
Moreover, those T2 arties were the instrument used to achieve the gank. Without them you'd not kill him. A kill is a transaction where you used a certain setup, that's the setup CONCORD will kill. Circumventing it is certainly worth asking GMs with a petition, it's really shady. It may be seen as "smart use of game mechanics" or just as a cheat-in-the-making that CCP still did not cover with their game mechanics. Now that it's public expect everyone to do it, strongly pushing CCP into filing it into the "just a cheat in the making" category.
Ah, yes, this is the dynamic.
Carebears whine about gankers getting insurance. CCP gives in and changes the rules to make ganking more expensive. Gankers adapt and find clever ways to make ganking more economical. Carebears whine about that too.
You can use the Orca's fitting service at any time. Mid-Combat, GCC'd whenever. There are no restrictions on its use. Its actually a VERY effective trick for squeezing an extra 1000 Volley out of your Tornado for 'harder targets'.
Useful ganker tech follows: Fit 4x Domination Gyrostabs on a Tornado and watch your average volley go up to 14.5K, from 13.5K. Kill your target, warp - then unload those pricy mods into the Orca before death. Reuse them on the next time some Exhumer pilot gets uppity and decides to try to tank you. Remember, 14.5K is only 'average' hit quality - it can go up significantly with 'well aimed' or 'excellent' hits.
Not something you do for your 'run of the mill' Exhumer gank, but always good to have a 'Special Edition' handy.

... very, very happily... hehe
There's already a solution towards not risking losing something very valuable on suicide ganking, at least when you have to move things. Use Push Industries ;)
If CCP made suicide ganking obsolete, it would hurt to some extend not just suicide gankers. How that?
Simple. A lot of players already depend on our service and prefer using us over taking the risk. Even if we would lose the cargo, they don't lose their ISK thanks to the collateral on couriers. Even suicide gankers depend on us at times, to make shipments for them... those might be even ships or ammo that would be used in some gank hehe
But it doesn't end there. Manufacturers in EVE also depend on suicide gankers. Take Tornado producers as example, how many less Tornado's would be sold without a lot of them being blown up on suicide ganks? And it can be continued like that, manufacturers need materials, from which others profit again etc.
That reminds me, those depend also on us sometimes... aaah, it's nice to know, we couriers keep EVE running, at least to some extend, as we make sure supplies for everyone arrive sooner *laughs*
Do I hate suicide ganking? Yes, I do. But do I want it to be "solved" and disappear? No, I don't. At least not, as long it's not extremely unbalanced towards non-suiciders.
There is no need to move stuff, because now you can push it! |

It's not the games fault, it's the players fault. Creativity is something that has to be brought into the game, the game itself can not magically create it.

Oh and welcome to EVE. Stop your whining and HTFU.
The issue I have with your comment is that compared to high sec, null sec is 500% safer
High sec should never have been called "high sec" since it's not safe or safer than null at all: you never know who's your enemy, they don't need bubbles to grab/kill you because concord eventually will help them, the neutral guy that becomes war target at the undock is a game exploit but this is done all day long at jita and every major trade hub, people gank with no consequence all day long and then spent 1h or 2 killing one BS rat per system and that's it SS is back This is a complete failure as game mechanic/design
If CCP ever wants or is able to find someone smart enough to figure out that high sec should BE really high sec, they would start by changing game mechanics. Fix SS is far too easy, you can get -10 in a few seconds provided you have some friends with alts, and get positive SS in the same day with no effort
You hit negative status (-5.1) you shouldn't be able to fly anything else than a shuttle or concord should blow your teeth, and before you get the SS back you should really work for months. Scrubs leave? -who cares. |
