Edited by: timbitz on 13/07/2008 12:07:11 About 2-3 days ago, my Eve clients have started randomly disconnecting. It happens anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour or so. If I don't select "log off" myself, it will eventually, after a couple of minutes, drop me down to the log-in screen. If I'm running multiple clients, they all disconnect at the same time. However, each time, I am able to immediately log right back in with no delays. The game doesn't crash, it's just a disconnection. Any other online games work fine, it's just Eve. Any suggestions?
-edit- edited to add that lag is not an issue. Eve will be running fine, at normal speed, when it simply disconnects.

Exactly he same thing happens to me too, except it's been like this for a couple of weeks on and off. It's isn't like this all the time however, but sometimes I have to log in every 5 minutes or so, ie unplayable.

I'm having the same problem. It seems fine when I run single client. If I run more than one eve instances, I get random disconnects every few min. It's very annoying. I wonder if it's the change they did about the cache setting causing the disconnects. I also tend to get disconnected when browsing markets or setting up research jobs.

If you can post some more details about your problem and what settings you use that would be good.
Some things to look at would be if you are running multiple clients from the same folder/location or from separate folders. I always recommend people use separate installs to run multiple clients as it will give less potential for things to go wrong. ____________________________ I break things.

I've been experiencing this same problem, although I only run a single account. As the OP says, the game will run fine, until it simply loses connection.
This has been happening for about 3-4 weeks, and only affects me during "peak" playing times (i.e. when number of users >30k).
I've been running a tracert to the server and consistently (even when I'm *not* crashing) I have the following:
Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops
1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms XXX 2 89 ms 87 ms 115 ms XXX 3 86 ms 87 ms 83 ms 87.87.129.33 4 91 ms 91 ms 91 ms be2.er10.txlon.ov.easynet.net [195.66.226.43] 5 90 ms 91 ms 91 ms linx1.telecityredbus.net [195.66.226.82] 6 90 ms 90 ms 91 ms 85.90.226.209 7 92 ms 89 ms 91 ms 217.20.44.222 8 * * * Request timed out. 9 97 ms 103 ms 99 ms 87.237.38.200
Trace complete.
I don't know much about servers or how tracert works, but is this suggesting there's some problem with the eve servers? It's always the last hop that times out.
Any help would be appreciated - having come back to a vargur with heavy armour damage, I'm reluctant to play as I'd like

Alrighty. Running anywhere from 1-3 clients. Each has always had its own install. Cache on each is set to "Off". Audio on each is turned off. Premium graphics are enabled, with shadow detail set to "normal".
Comp is an Intell E8400 Core2 Duo, Win XP w/ SP2, and 4g of ram. Graphics card is an nvidia 8800 GT 512mb with current drivers.
First off, let me emphasize, lag is not an issue. Eve will run fine on all clients at normal speed, until it all of a sudden disconnects, each client at the same time. If one client disconnects, they ALL do so. Always. Also happens just as frequently when I'm only running a single client. Doesn't matter if I'm docked at station and AFK, or running a trade route on auto pilot, or in combat. Disconnects are seemingly random, at intervals of 5 minutes up to an hour. Once I notice game is no longer reacting, I use the escape key and then "log off", which then immediately brings me back to log in screen. Game doesn't hang up when re-logging, not on any client. I can re-log just one account, or all 3, doesn't matter, they all connect again immediately. If I don't manually log-in again within a few minutes, the game will then automatically drop to the "your connection has been lost" (or something like that) screen, and then back to log-in screen.
Hopefully this info is what you're looking for. Thanks!

Edited by: Bruce Camble on 18/07/2008 21:39:04 I had recently had the same issue as you guys had, except that I had lost a ship while doing a level 4 mission and I filed a petition about it. Me: You guy's had dropped my connection on both of my account's and by the time that i had logged back on while in the middle of doing a lvl 4 mission my ship was destroyed.

Looking to get my ship's and fitting's back. There response: Hi Ollisrak,
Thank you for contacting customer support, we apologize for the late reply. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I understand such a loss can cause frustration, but we unfortunately cannot find any indication in our logs of any network or server related troubles around that time that could have been the cause of nor helped in the case of your loss. Lacking this verification we are bound by our reimbursement policy (located at http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/reimbursment.asp) which stipulates that we can only compensate through verification, we cannot do so in this case. I do hope you will be able to recover from this loss as quickly as possible.

Me: You guys are the one's that created Faction warfare, which form's bigger blob's to go roaming through out empire and low sec space. Roaming blob's of people jumping into and out of system's usually have issue with the server's, are you sure that there was none of those roaming through out the area that I was in. I am usually able to handle lvl 4 mission's without any trouble as i have an orienos on stand by and warping in as soon as I get aggro from the rat's, but once i had launched my drone's and tabbed to the other screen to warp my onerios into the mission. Both of my client's had froze up and i was unable to do anything, until the main screen popped back up which allows you to log back into the game. This clearly states that the server on which I was located on had crashed on both of my account's. Losing the ship is not the frustrating part really. It more along the line's that no matter how many different way's you can prove that either a bug in the game design or the server crashing can be proven you always get the same answer. Which is that your hand's are tied as there is no verifications of anything wrong on are record's. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=821661 is a topic with even more player's having the same issue that I had if you need more information about it. There response: Hi Ollisrak,
Thanks for your response. I am sorry for I can't open the link. There would be countless possible reasons for disconnection, such as localized ISP problems, software conflicts, and a corrupt cache and so on and so forth. All issues we can not verify and must refuse. I sincerely wish I was able to help you more.
Best Regards GM Angel The EVE Online Customer Support Team
So is paying to play this game really worth it when they can't take responsibility for an issue that seems to be on there end what so ever but they can't even find this post as it appears.

I keep having disconnects as well. And Ive only been running 1 account at a time lately. It seems to happen more often then not if I stay inactive for a short amount of time. If I keep klicking stuff and moving the mouse around it seems the game wont disconnect but if I leave to computer for a minute or two, when I get back I might as well hit escape and log out coz Ive lost connection.
Atleast thats what it feels like. I could be wrong and it disconnects just as often when I stick around, being activly flying the ship but it doesnt feel that way. Anyhow, its irretating as hell.
Oh, its been going on for a week or two. |

hi,
im having a similar issue, and i have seen something really interesting:
i setup a ping to whereever (local or remote) server and then enter eve. after a few attempts to login it lets me in, and then a few sec /min later it kicks me of (connection lost). What is interesting is that it resets my network card as i get hardware error from the ping. I tried this with both a wireless usb connection and a ethernet one, and the same results in both. EVE somehow disconnects my network card!!
really strange...

I too was having problems with my client just like this
It just randomly disconnecting at odd times... but it seemed to start up when i turned the shadow quality on to normal for the first time to try it out and it happened constantly when i had them on.. like i had perfect running client then out of the blue it just DC'd?!
But when I turned the shadow quality back to Off and i haven't had the issue since... so maybe someone who is having similar issues should look into that, could be a possible weird bug or something?

The same problem here observed for last 3 days.
Single installation, basic content, no cache changes.
Ususally disconnects when idle (like when the game is minimized) and sometimes disconnects during login (after character selection).
MTR during the time showed 1 ping lost over 1000 sent with average response time around 35 ms so it does not look like network issue.

I have heard from other players that change the cache back to what you had before the disconnects started stops this from happening. For instance one corp member had changed his cache from high to low, and then experianced disconnects which grew in frequency until he could barely stay logged on. In frustration he changed the cache back to high, and is so far, no longer experiencing the disconects.

this problem occurs since a couple of weeks , but the only answer u get from CCP is check ur router or isp.would actually be nice if CCP would start to stop to blame it on the players and start investigating the problem or at least tell whats going on . i cant pvp, no missions not whatsoever.i read again and again from different ppl about the same problem. CCP = silence..like in a sunken sub. got the impression it happens mostly at 30k + players, if its less i m usually quite fine , if 30k + can be every 5 mins. i can immediately log back in , its no lag and then poof, happens at all the machines here and with different routers, isp's , i checked ping etc no result ./me shakes fist

Its the same if I run one as if I run multiple accounts. Ive tried all sorts of graphical and catch settings but nothing helps. Sometimes it SEEMS as if I change catch settings it clears up for a day or so befor it ****s up again.. Atleast one such occation that I can recollect off the top of my head. Im now trying to reinstall eve but that too seems to be a battle Im destined to lose... Shit is starting to become unfun :I
Woop, installation actually started
Edit: Not to bash the game for anyone out there who thinks about joining up.. I love eve more then I love my beers. But this shit is making me nervous :I

Only thing that i have really gotten out of ccp so far is that YOU CANT COPY AND POST THERE COMMENTS FROM PETITIONS so they had deleted my above post because i used there own words. To some it up basically I've really never had issuses with the servers until the introduced the faction warfare into the game. but since they have claimed that they could not find anything wrong with the servers I have to assume that there game programmers have leaked in a bug while in a hurry to launch the faction warfare system on time. Yet again this wont be there fault either as we should know there will be no records of anything wrong. So basically saying go ahead and pay us for a game in which you might be able to play at sometime but not all the time.

I've been getting the same problem all night long, and off and on (mostly on) for the last few weeks. There's only 18k people on, and I'm still disconnecting less then every two minutes. I've tried almost everything so far, now I'm reinstalling.
This is making the game a heck of a lot less worth playing...

I've been getting a lot of disconnects and it seems like an idle timeout. If I leave my ship in space just sitting there at zero m/s and walk away I'll get disconnected. If I have my ship orbit something then I can walk away and not get disconnected.
I've been testing this for a few weeks now by connecting both clients, playing for a while, then going afk for an hour. If I leave both sitting doing nothing they will disconnect. If I leave both orbiting something they will stay up. If I have one orbit and one sit the one that's idle will get disconnected, and it's pretty consistent with me.
I would really like to know if an idle timer is active in the Eve client.
