Edited by: Fitzhugh on 03/09/2004 17:31:01 Have the times already been issued to the pilots? Where are they posting to the pilots. IN evemail or regular email addresses
Never Mind found the data in another thread... Never heard of any of the pilots in my qualifier... might be time to make some new friends

Thats a real good question, I think since they say the race goes through the badlands- there wont be any/very many sentry guns. ------------------

Will CCP be making posters of the Colossus Race banner available to purchase? I for one think it looks sweet and would be interested in one stuck to the wall of my Pod

I am assuming that there will be no way for race officiales to monitor racers at everyjump. Which means the corp mates can camp gates in the race routes to blow away competition. I only ask because I have a few felons in my qualifier and I am wondering whether it would be a good idea to hire some back up muscel

well that is not the problem... the problem is, that the racers them selfs won't shoot at each other, because u have to wait 30 sec before u jump if u make an agrression. and since no one will be able to lock & kill somebody at jump-in gate (frigates warp in a second), surely noone will make agression at jump-out gate, because it takes a frigate with mwd a few sec to jump. and even if u manage to web&warp scramble someone, u still made agression and all other racers will have 30 sec advantage...

I have some sneaking suspicions about this race, and although I think speed will me a major factor I don't think it will be THE defining factor...bear with me a moment.
Imagine a 120-150 J race where it was just a matter of warping from one gate to the next, jumping through, and then warping to the next. Making sure you hold your fire to keep agression from locking you back 30 seconds. Even if it was all through 0.0 space I think the winner would be the pilot who would be able to keep themselves from falling asleep at the keyboard.
Now look around at all the equipment, npc's, ships, corporations, etc. that exist in our little gaming universe. What do each of the eight Caldari megacorps want? Why, for THEIR team to win of course. Remember our history and that the Caldari megacorps today were the most ruthless that survived. Kaalakiota is unlikely to sit by and clap politely while a Lai Dai pilot crosses the finish line first because he has an interceptor and a RL computer that runs white-hot.
There have been player-based racing events that I'm sure CCP has observed and even gotten ideas from, but CCP literally runs the universe, and doesn't want just another player-type racing event.
When I visualize this race, I'm seeing saboteurs, bribery, traps, warp dead spots or disruptors 2000 km's from jumpgates, ambushes, celestial phenomena that short out shields or drain power cores, and anything else that CCP can devise to test the RL players wits and reactions rather than just pitting skills and ship loadouts against each other. Will the faster ships being piloted by chars with a lot of sp's have the edge? You bet, but we racers better stay on our toes. Even in the qualifiers I believe our sponsor corps are going to be testing us hard, because the npc CEO's know what the real race will be like. They want pilots who can survive, eliminate the competition, entertain the unwashed masses, and, above all, WIN for them.
Ladies and gentlemen who have made it through the selection process to be in the qualifiers, I speculate that the least of our worries will be interference from other players outside of the race. I'm sure many of you have run courier, scout, or blockade-runner duty just like myself, and you know that with what we'll be flying we have little to fear from gank squads. I've thumbed my nose at more than one and already been through a jump gate while they're still trying to get a lock. No, it is my belief that what we really need to fear is whatever the creators of this somewhat mad universe we play in will dream up for us to contend with...and I, for one, am really looking forward to it
