Edited by: Sandrine Starfire on 10/03/2009 17:15:07 Edited by: Sandrine Starfire on 10/03/2009 17:14:21 Hello !
I just patched to Apocrypha and i discovered the problem, that the volume differences of soundeffects are large. If i target something, the sound volume was allright. Then i warped and just didn't heared the warp sound. So i raised the volume nearly to max. There it was, the sound. Btw. very cool. But when i started to target again, i got deaf, because the targeting sound was so loud.
Can you plz fix that CCP ?
Thx.

I think the sound is broken, space suddenly sounds like the inside of a factory, it is just filled with random hideous noise.
I am hoping this is what is wrong with the warp effect, but TBH when I listen to it it sounds like a terrible choice of new sounds, it is actually quite unpleasant to hear.

I also can hardly hear anything in combat; if I zoom right in on my ship I can get it's guns going off, and if somethings shooting missiles at me I get the explosion, but that's pretty much it. UI sounds, ambient station sounds etc are all fine, and yes I've turned all the volume controls up.

Got the same issue. My friend told me "it is in the patch notes", tho I doubt it was intended to be this extreme.. it seems CCP want to distinguish ranges a bit more. -

The new sound system is based around 5.1 audio. So your using 2 speaks with a sub or less, you'll get simulated 5.1 or a clusterfark of audio on those 2 speakers.

I got the same problem, though the sound works when alt-tabbed... Except ship explosions... They just sound like a loud "click" in the headphones...

I'm having sound issues, too. Either station sounds are way too loud or space sound is too quiet. It's especially apparent in Caldari stations. Being docked is a pain right now, the fact that ambient sound doesn't go away anymore when ALT-Tabbing out of the game makes it even worse.
Please give a separate option to mute station noise! It's just annoying, and volume is actually just a secondary problem right now.
As much as I like what I've heard from the new sounds so far, I'll switch it off until it's fixed.

That's stupid in so many ways that I don't know where to begin.. at least we could've gotten an option to chose how to use the sound.
2 speaker, subwoofer, decent soundcare but no, I don't run 5.1. If I want better sound I use my old PC which I use to record stuff I play on my guitar etc, this setup I run here works perfectly fine for games.
Wth do we need, a home theatre or studio just to hear guns/explosions? Really bad, CCP. -

I too am having serious issues with volume; I had to max everything to 10 to hear it in my departure station and space, with the exception of the music and UI noises which were both plenty loud.
I just docked in a different system, and nearly had my ears blown off by the world noises inside this station, when they suddenly found their voice. ------

Yes I have encountered the same problems.
Why is EVE the only game that has so many sound issues all the time? I've played plenty of games and yes other MMO's as well and almost never have sound issues, but in EVE there always seems to be some crazy sound issues after a big update.
As mentioned before, the volume in Caldari stations is ear deafening and when I fly and warp around I have great difficulty hearing it if I do not change the main volume to the max, which I do not want to do, because the moment I dock my ears will bleed. I also visited a belt to check it out and could barely hear a frigate fire its turrets on me, it was really faint.
This is not funny. You always put so much effort in the graphics and now the new effects and I love 'em, but the sound department is seriously lacking in quality again, sigh

I am having kinda the same problem since patch.
My sound is low in general and the quality of it is bad. For example turret sounds and explosions seems muffled.
I used to have this problem before but I would disable the "Hardware acceleration" (I think that was what it was called) option in the sound options and the sound would be perfect again. However this option seems to have disappeared

Same stupidly annoying sound issues here. They've been happening since one of the patches on SiSi. It worked for a bit, then got patched again to not work.
And your 5.1 only assumption is wrong.

Got similary problems myself, first of explosion audio does not work, secondly audio settings is ultra low, before I had audio volume set to 2/10 now I can still barly hear it at 10/10.
Thirdly there is annoying artifact sounds at random times, most commonly when ships explode. Was never the case before.
And I can say that I wasn't the only one experience this one, many in my corp reported the same problem.

Seems like they implemented "sound at camera" when it used to be "sound at ship". That is to say: zoom in and noises get LOUD. Zoom out and it's silent, and combat is really rather boring when it's quiet! Really stupid cos to hear any sound you need to have a silly super-zoomed in view. A few sound glitches too, it seems. And then a ship comes near your camera, fires, and you jump a mile and go deaf. |

Same problem here. The sound is too weak in many areas. I can sometimes hear a crackling noise, i.e. when using a salvager. Card is a X-Fi Titanium under Vista x64.

Of all the glitched and stuff, this is by far the one that reduces my enjoyment of the new patch most.
I'm running a X-Fi and creative alchemy. THe sounds are completely inconsistent until I fire my 1400 arty which comes out as a click and the world sounds die. ------ This is a signature, no?

I had just like that and felt just like that, with a X-Fi card. If you look up a bit in this thread you saw some guys talked about it being a "5.1 system". I went into my driver settings and changed the speaker settings to "5.1". No, I don't have a 5.1, but ticking that setting fixed the sound for me. Almost. I still get moments of silence but it works most of the time. -

I tried forcing my computer to 5.1. Didn't make much of a difference. I can see its not my sound card, as several of you have high end, and are having the same problems. Has anyone found a good work around?
I've been on test for the past several weeks. Sound didn't come up much as an issue. There wasn't any for a long time. Then parts would come and go from one patch to the next. It was clear it was a work in progress. What we have now didn't make its appearance until a few days ago. I guess most people figured it would be sorted out. Its still fubar. I can only hope they keep working on it.

Look in the AUDIO & CHAT tab in options. Untick (or tick and then untick) the extra option under the volume sliders. I wish people would look for themselves once in a while. --- Have a rawr on me. |

That option is to supress turret sounds. I wish people would read threads before posting once in a while.
