Ya, it's hard to find ... under Eve info. portal / Apocr. issue list
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1018302
What worries me a little bit is that the only thing mentioned about all of this is the following:
Audio: Station environment sound level is too high compared to other world sounds
Workaround: None yet.
And yet there are many more problems or rather flaws with the current implementation of the sound system. If something is so obviously broken, why not simply revert back to the old sound code and then move forward again one step at a time? It must be me thinking way too simple. Or else you might consider an option to put the sound on the camera instead of the object you are currently facing, very close up (this is a game people). I can hear my missiles explode but you have to zoom in on the target you are firing at, not exactly like it used to be, is it now? And yes there are plenty of other issues with it. People have mentioned the too loud acceleration gates (which after a while die down completely), the salvager crackle sound, no sound from the drones (oh yes I'm not zooming in on them, stupid me ) and many more. But do we get any acknowledgement on all of this; no of course not and why would you on something so important? Communicate with your customers please, thank you! Forgive my sarcasm, but I just want to play EVE again and actually enjoy it like I used to
One last thing, I'm not even sure how the current sound system is implemented, at the ship or at the camera or even something else, but many of us agree that the current system simply doesn't work.

They are going the opposite direction on the test server. In the current build the desync problem seems fixed. Gate jumps and warp sound appear balanced. However, the fall off for fighting sounds is now a hard stop at 5km zoom from your ship. Beyond that, the game is dead silent. (With the exception of target lock.) This is less sound than the current TQ build. You must fill the screen with your ship to hear anything. You will never hear a missile land etc... if your apponent if more than 5km away from you.
If they are serious about this, its now beyond frustration, and moving toward humor.

Srsly, we got a half assed game now.. we are PAYING for it... And it seems to be just another "small" issue to them.
Anyone here, who would pay for cinema tickets if they didnt have speakers yet?

This hardly qualifies as acknowledging Apochribba sound problems. TBFO, these days CCP appears like a software company operating out of my neighbours garage. Latest patch clearly has huge problems with sound, how did these get past QA? Why not delay the introduction of the new sound engine until it actually works?

That the sound has become annoying is one thing - but what really makes me sick is the lack of feedback from CCP to this serious issue.

But there is in the ship since it's pressurized, the ship sounds would be heard by its inhabitants.

Again, the sound does need to be fixed, but it's not gone, it's just really distance-dependent, now. If you play zoomed out like everyone else, you don't get sound.
The accent is on "you play zoomed out like everyone else", because the game should work best in the way everyone plays it. I don't want to have to zoom to my underpants in order to hear my guns.

an official statement about this sound issue would be nice, its overdue! will it be fixed or not?

Actually, the audio is a 'standard' feature of every pod audio synthesizer according to the EVE backstory/chronicle "The Jovian Wetgrave". Pages 238-246 in EVE: The Book v1.4. Hence, the in-space audio should be present, working, it should be fixed if broken and considered a perfectly realistic component in the game environment. Quote:
[...] After a while Anu's voice came back: "You're doing very well. Now we are going to activate the audio synthesizers."
"Audio synthesizers? What do you mean?" Pirkotan thought. "As you know there is no sound in space, but when we were developing the capsules we found that people wanted to use as many of their senses as possible, thus we added the sound. By letting a computer create three dimensional sound we also add to the awareness you have while in battles, for instance."
Several seconds later Pirkotan could hear the audio synthesizers kick in; he could hear the low humming noise of the propulsion system and the sudden hissing sound of course-correctional thrusters. Anu came back on: "Now we'll test the audio system." [...] |

Just out of curiosity...has any of you talked with someone who has working sound?I understand that per definition in this forum there are only ppl who experience sound problems; but if someone has any info on a setup that works (hardware wise) it would be nice to know. I have the same problems by the way.

I got a message from a GM today (petition from 03.16.).
Short form of the message: Please clear your cache, start in safe mode, refresh your audio drivers or reinstall your eve client.
But after reinstalling the eve client my turret sounds are really back. And with them all the other sounds are back too. (I also refreshed the Realtek HD Audio Drivers.)
I hope they find a way to help you too.

Audio still screwed up for me. Right now I'm in a mission. UI is fine. Zoom into a target I can hear its sound fx and my shots landing on it. Zoom back to my ship and I can't hear anything. Can't hear my guns fire, missiles launch or me getting hit for that matter. This isn't a preference. This is almost killing me literally. I've taken a massive amount of damage just a bit ago because I didn't hear the shots landing on my hull. Lets go guys. Fix this already or at the very least let us know that you're hammering things out.

I have the exact same problems outlined in this topic by many users. Loud, excruciating sounds inside stations, weird farked up sound effects in space, some way too loud, some barely audible, some missing all together. Cracking / popping sounds on many effects like the salvaging module. In short, EVE's sound, in its current form, is a complete and total abomination. I have only started playing this game 2 months ago, and i honestly say i have had a great time sofar, however, with no sound (i turned it off all together for fear of my ears and speaker system) this game just doesn't cut it. I acknowledge the fact that you don't strive for certain standards as other companies do, which you have clearly proven by not hotixing this issue or even reassuring / explaining this fine community that you are indeed working on a solution after 2 weeks and i, and from the looks of it, many others are starting to question your competence when it comes to providing solutions in a timely manner to complications not picked up by your quality control department. For what it is worth, my soundcard is a Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium Fatality Pro with up to date drivers.
Regards, Peyote Mescaline.

And with that in Mind I thought "OMG CCP WHAT ARE YOU DOING? What were you thinking ?" Why the hell make sound positional to THE CAMERA when sounds are produced in the POD? CCP Really screwed the sound in EVERY SINGLE WAY.

Yes, the capsules are meant to make use of as many senses as possible, thus sound was added.
For the next patch I would like an USB electro-shocker to warn me about taking damage û a useful use of another sense in my opinion. Or if that isnÆt possible maybe a set warning sounds with a default range of zero would do.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. Weeks have gone buy and they've barely even acknowledged this. Not a Dev response one in here. Nothing. Bug reports are basically being ignored. Etc... I bet when the EVE user-base starts dropping like flies because everyone is getting as ****ed as I am, they'll get this **** fixed. If another week goes by and this audio crap still isn't fixed, I think I may just cancel my subscription to EVE. I'm not going to pay monthly for a game I'm not playing. --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? WTF? These forums suck CCP, fix 'em or get something better... I agree.
Today I tried both patching & a fresh install on two separate systems with both Windows Vista & Windows 7 & with different configurations & audio hardware (1 x Auzen X-FI Prelude 7.1 + 1 x Integrated 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible card on my laptop) and with freshly updated audio drivers on both.
The problem still persists.
I submitted a bug report together with my DXDiag here & I urge everyone with this irritating audio bug to do the same if you have not already done so - submit a new bug report today for version 84609, do not for any reason assume CCP to be monitoring this particular thread.

WeÆll see what itÆs like and what they have been doing with the next patch.
------------------- Patchnotes for Apocrypha 1.0.2 à Miscellaneous òà òThe volume of the background sounds in the hanger has been reduced. òThe sound volume for acceleration gates has been turned down a little. òà òAura's voice will have slightly less emphasis on the right speaker. òà òThe text label for "suppress turret sounds" has been renamed to be more accurate (the volume is reduced, not removed). òà òModified the audio mixing for several items, such as warping, jumpgates and scanner probes. à -------------------
Still it would have been nice if someone had said in this thread ôweÆre working on it, wait oneö or something like that instead of giving us the mushroom treatment.

There is still NO sound on test outside of max zoom. Perhaps that's the reason there's been no comment.

Which Turret Sound? They should fix this "turret sounds" before making an option to reduce them....
And the Audio Mixing?
Now srsly... I think CCP still hasn't got the real Problem... I give them time, until my suscription runs out. You guys should too. They dont seem to understand it other way.

So, all patched... You still need to be zoomed all the way in to hear e.g. missiles being fired.. And when the missile hits your target!? Total silence (unless cam is zoomed all the way in on the target).
Station/warping/jumping audio works pretty good.. So audioproblem PARTIALLY fixed I would say.

Now after last patch i can't hear gun sounds but i hear my smartbomb effect & still need to be zoomed.
As Abe SE told, station sounds works better but i want my old audio effects before apocrypha on my 5.1 logitech hardware. I have last drivers on my SB soundcard.
So please CCP do something with this problem. Regards with hope.
