Based on your escape menu screenshots, the font is much HARDER to read.
1. Character height/width ration appears wrong. IE. They look too skinny. While I wouldn't want the characters any wider than the old ones, as I value my horizontal screen real-estate, these characters just look squishy in the horizontal direction.
2. "h" looks like "n".
3. Most depressingly, I feel my eyes straining to read the words in the new font, and then a relative sense of comfort to look back at the old font...
Sorry to mock your hard work, but IMO you're just not there yet. |

The new font is not enough technical, he is too big and looks too normal (like Arial..) and this font makes the GUI of EVE more looks like any other normal program on my computer, the special extraterrestrial feeling goes lost.
Please use furthermore in future a uppercased and more squared font, maybe you should only correct the mistakable chars.

It's 21 Sept, so I rebuilt my SiSi (Successfully! First time! :) ) to see more examples of the font in action. It looks like I was overly eager and will have a little more waiting before me.
When the test font does arrive I'll be particularly interested in:
- the lowercase "l" ("L") alongside the capital "I" ("i") and numeral "1"
- nullsec system names
- financial accounts, showcasing the strike-through zero
- paragraph text in item descriptions
- chat windows showing standard punctuation and capitalisation, links (still bold and coloured?), someone bellowing in all-caps, and use of the "/me" emote.
You've said you're aware that the text is currently floating too high. Fixing that will make quite a difference to how we perceive the font, I think. At the moment, as well as the discomfort of the unfamiliar, the misalignments make the sample page look rough (not in a good way) and unprofessional, as well as seeming to cut off the top row of pixels in characters like the lower-case "f" which makes that look like an indecisive "t".
I'm keen to see an improved font. I support the use of mixed-case over all-caps for legibility in headings. (Brings another angle to nerfing supercaps.) My first impression is that, while the kerning doesn't seem to be too bad, the verticality of the font is going to take some getting used to. I support Arial Narrow and similar fonts for headings but not really for chunks of meant-to-be-read "text". That would be a fairly radical change at this stage, though.
One thing the example does show up is that it looks like you could do with an EVE writing style guide. It seems you've chosen title case for headings but either you're confused about which casing you're using for list items or different people have different ideas about what EVE considers are proper names, deserving of capitalisation. "Shift"? "Tactical Notifications" but "damage notifications". Sort this as early as possible: it saves a heap of time and fixes later. (And if you actually have a mixed-case mess on your hands that was previously hidden by being automatically all-capsed you have my sympathy.) |

Given the comments from some, you would think that the new font is already on SiSi.
Is it? As I can see no difference. |

Please add more front' sizes. It is impossible to play on big monitors (32"+) in 1920x1080. Try it and your eyes will be broken! I cant believe that it is so difficult.
Also to improve readability please add option to make all (or some) fronts bolded!
Hope I will be heard and somebody supports me. |

about the ESC menu screen shot. Going form full caps to regular caps was a little bit of a shock but whats wrong with left mouse button in "escmenunew.jpg" there is an un-render-able char right next to left. |

The font presented doesn't suit EVE Online. It looks like a generic Windows font. In five minutes on myfonts.com I've found these two nice looking guys: Maza, Digital Sans EF (with a few modifications of noted "o0, G&" problem they could be a lot better choice)
If you'd spent there a little more time, with a smart tags searching, I'm sure you'd find a lot better solution than doing everything yourself in a font that doesn't really look good for a future internet spaceships.
But since you've already presented the new font, in what it seems like an advanced stage of work, I'm not that optimistic that you are going to do anything about that :) But at least I've tried. I guess I'll have to get used to EVE client having a typography of a windows app. |

An open letter to the army of armchair designers and fancy font fanatics who have enthusiastically swooped on this thread like attention-starved carrion fowl:
Kindly cease and desist with the "this or that sci-fi font would look sooooooooooooooooooooo(breath)oooooooooooooooo cool" balderdash.
Try an experiment (a quick thought experiment sufficed for me (but for some of you I'd perhaps suggest something involving typing, copying, pasting, rescaling and gasping)) whereby you compress some of these artless monstrosities into the miserly space that one is so obviously constrained to in the EVE UI, and you'll soon come to appreciate (actually, you probably won't (but never mind because the good taste bypass procedure many of you seem to have undergone doubtless makes even the most sordidly overdecorated large-hadron-collider-grade-blue-LED adorned case seem unassailably chic)) that if your hackneyed hieroglyphics belong anywhere, then that unlucky somewhere had best be as far as possible from your trusty local internet spaceship simulator.
Yours minimalistically,
WW
PS - Grudging thanks to Tethys Atreides for patiently parsing the parentheses of my previous post. If any equally masochistic capsuleers crave for the same adulation to be heaped upon their unworthy crowns, they have only to do the same. Form an orderly queue, won't you? |

Sorry but that looks pretty manky. I hope it is very much a work in progress, because being forced to use that would seriously make the game a drag. I don't have any issues with the current font; not being 'disabled' or unable to tell the difference between two different characters.
Making a new font that looks very akin to the amateur freetype **** from a linux distro, isn't what I'd consider a step forward. Making eve look like some terrible X11 inspired mess from 2001 really isn't either.
Can we continue to use the old font by choice or not? |

To anyone having problems with the eula not scrolling find the 'prefs.ini' and edit it, look for the line 'languageID=' and change it to 'languageID=EN' it should then work fine.
It seems the client is looking for unavailable language files. |

The capital letter "Q" needs to have its lower slashy thing stand out more. As it is, capital "Q" looks an awful lot like capital "O"
There seems to be a lot of unparsed labels - instead of seeing proper labels, I'm seeing things like:
[no label: UI/InfoWindow/MedalAwardedNumTimes]
(That's from the Medals tab of the Decorations page on my character sheet. Should say, "Kick Ass Award")
Dates/times are not parsing into spelled-out dates/times as they previously did. For example, on the Training Queue page of the Character sheet, I prefer the way the time remaining displays on the old system - as "Four Days Three Hours Nine Minutes" instead of "04:03:09:22"
Blue bar showing skill que crunches into the line that says "FINISHES 10/4/11 11:20:36 PM PDT"
Commas missing on character sheet displaying how many skill points saved on my clone
Hard to differentiate between commas and periods
Combat log is all whacked out of alignment - text is taking up far more space vertically than is available for the text. Odd squares/brackets(?) (look like []) after corp and alliance names.
Text is also somewhat vertically space challenged on the Augmentations page of the Character sheet.
On the HUD, bottom of HUD, the text showing (WARPING) and speed when not warping (i.e., "97 M/S") is very big, actually should be smaller - it almost runs off the HUD.
Will edit this post with links to images soon as I can get them all uploaded!

As far as distinguishing characters from each other goes, 0 (zero) and O (oh) are fixed but O (oh) and Q (cue) still have a serious issue:
http://i.imgur.com/uDyTB.png
D (dee) and O (oh) will probably still cause issues in small font situations, particularly in the probing interface under the ID column. SiSi went down before I was able to check, but it's a problem there with the current font on TQ, so it's worth a look. Ultimately, O (oh) seems a bit anorexic and should be fattened, while Q (cue) just needs a more prominent marking in the bottom right corner. |

Here are the things I noticed (in random order) regarding the new fonts:
- Ship names in the station Services tab seem to randomly lose (part of) the first letter of their name.
http://eve-files.com/dl/248067
It's not a matter of name length it seems, 'Zonnescheerder' has 14 letters and the 'Z' is cut of, while 'Grijze Hagelstorm' has 17 and doesn't get any letter cut of.
- Times and dates are very difficult to read/comprehend. For example the remaining time left in the skill queue is reading like single 8 digit number. The divisions are only visible for me if I put my nose against the screen.
Another example is the date for the next neural remap in the attributes tab of the character sheet: http://eve-files.com/dl/248071 For me it reads as 20111215 184258. Ok, it is technically depicting the date and time, but is far from easy to read. There are many, many places where a date or timer is shown with the same readability/comprehension issue. Although in the Market tab, the expiration date/time of the market orders is depicted the 'old fashioned' way. Much better readable!
- Text in the Character sheet Combat Log tab is not staying within the text box: http://eve-files.com/dl/248073
While on the other hand, in the Agents tab of People & Places it is: http://eve-files.com/dl/248074 It looks as if in the Combat log the line height is determined by the picture size (leaving to little room for the text) and in the Agent tab by the text size: http://eve-files.com/dl/248075 (left Combat log, right Agents tab)
- Found some very strange text behaviour in my wallet tab: http://eve-files.com/dl/248076
Yes that's it! Save resources! Why use all those columns, if it can fit in only two?.....
Hopes this small list helps. There are probably some more glitches, I will test again tomorrow. Now, off to bed.
E.N.
Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

Many times this.
CCP is unable to implement simpliest things. Like settting to hide signatures. So they sweep it under a rug . Children do that in their pre-shool years, CCP does it being adults. Probably because it is fearless enough. |
