Dude... as soon as you saw the word "database" in that sentence, you should have planned for eight hours of downtime, minimum. In MMO's every epic 8 to 24+ downtime I've experienced has been due to some brutal database error.

If you always kept your skill queue 100% full, this wouldn't be an issue. I know it's hard to comprehend, but a little foresight goes a long way these days. A full skill queue means that you'd survive (at the bare minimum) 24 hours of unplanned downtime easy. It's your own fault if you don't utilize the tools that CCP has so graciously given you.
