Jawarrior, I know you forgot to remind folks that not all Eulas as well as contracts are legal or binding. I have not studied this EULA, however just because it is a "EULA" does not make it gossip. :) I'll Salvage Your Soul |

Originally by: Jawarrior2010 reading through half the posts on this topic so many ppl say CCP are breaking the law one way or another...i have studied some law myself and know a fair bit about it, and i cant see where they have broken any laws.
Did they tell us about the Extended DT? Yes Does the EULA say anything about the game having to be up 24/7? No Does the EULA say that this game can be down for days without breaking laws? Yes
Cant be bothered to scroll through the EULA to find hte quotes for it but still, has anyone actually read and UNDERSTOOD the EULA?
and all these people saying that we pay for these new updates to the game like the Incursion patch coming in winter, you are mistaken, we do not pay for them, they are free like stated, we pay for our ACCOUNTS. If CCP wanted to they could buy another server and ask us to pay for these expansions like WOW does. So stfu whining seriously, specially all these people going on and on about they are breaking the law, they are extorting us...its pathetic
No, they arent about CCP breaking the law. You obviously didnt read the posts properly.
It is about Customer Satisfaction for inadequate service rendered.
Yes, we do pay for these updates. The updates would not exist if you were not in a business relationship with CCP by paying monthly subscriptions or purchasing their products (goods and services). Where do you think they get the money to hire the programmers to make these updates? Money trees?
Obviously, some of you have no clue of what goes into a business relationship between a company and their consumers.
Please set self-destruct to your pods when the server does come up.

Originally by: Prayer Nightwalk Right, so as an experienced developer, having built client / server applications, I guess that makes me a bit of an expert on the subject.
First off, SiSi is not Tranquility. A patch deployed on SiSi may work fine, deployed on Tranquility - even the smalled differences between environments can be devastating to a program. I would dread to peruse the endless code that makes EVE What it is at either end of the pipe. Whilst the Server Side code is likely a disaster of data types hacked in for specific purposes, convoluted with classes and methods that handle only edge case situations. The Client code - being Python -- GOD... Well I like Python about as much as I'd like to own a monkey. (Seeing as I don't even like my dog, I can't see me owning an animal, and sharing my home with a creature so vile that upon EMO-RAGING throws fecal matter).
In short - I don't envy the developers the work. managing a large scale project like EVE would endlessly boggle my mind to the point of delirium. I have many complaints about EVE, and what I would do differently as a programmer. However, I do still enjoy the game, and since I'm not one of their programmers, I keep my opinions to my self about it.
If you are not satisfied with the level of service you are receiving from CCP then perhaps you should consider holding onto our 15, 30, 45 bucks a month (as per how many accounts you have).. Meanwhile I'll sit on Teamspeak with my corp and alliance mates bull****ting about our lives, spouses, work, and plans for the future. We'll take this time to work out new logistic routes, propose fleet comps for specific purposes that do something new and different in a new and different way.
EVE is more then a game, is a social network of involved team mates. While the game may not be up.. Some of us are still playing.
By experience. It's not about developer problems. It's about proper testing in proper test environment with proper test procedures. Developers ofcourse has to face many challenges always, but putting problems to production is big NONO. One big point seems to be that when there is update and something fails. They have to close whole service. Instead of closing whole service (eve game), they should be able to close problem item. Like if there is problem with markets close market. If there is problem with training skills, inform client that training is closed for a while etc.. In every big developement which is continuous. Developement faces point where things has to be startted from scratch again. =ISK issue =P

I think i must have missed something somewhere i didnt know about the patch till today when i tried to log in , sat waiting patiently to get online as i have no skills in training now lol . After reading all the posts i can understand why people would be annoyed but at the end of the day its only a very small portion of potential gametime we are loosing , i personaly did not know about the past record of CCP's patches but i wish i had know about said issue and the patch so i could have planned accordingly . That being said im not gonna have a meltdown over a few hours lost SP even though i am still a very young pilot and cant even get into a BS yet .

Do you actually see the adverts to WOW? people pay to have both their accounts and then they pay extra cash to get the new patches out...where do we pay extra cash for these updates? if anything would it not be better to take a break from the game and get free updates to the game rather than having to shell out extra months fees just to play the updated version of the game? Your just trying to make yourself sound good, you have no knowledge at how things work obviously.
Also do you realise that EVERY OPERATING SYSTEM released by microsoft is BUGGED, has ERRORs and can CRASH at will? there hasnt been one operating system released by microsoft that is bug fre, and i doubt there will be. microsoft uses us to find these bugs so they can fix them, and they dont find all of the bugs for years, windows 7/Vista still have bugs now, they may not be major bugs but still they are bugs that can affect the system. CCP are no different, there will be bugs that are very hard to find and are found at the last minut which they are trying to resolve, as well as laugh at every person reading these forums complaining

Subscriptions, Plexes, Store. The funds come out of those prices charged to you, the customer.
This is not WOW. They are a different business and have different business practices.

Well they use python because nono of them can programme in assembly & to be honest would take years to write a game of this kind even with a team of programmers. but at the end of the day,bugs/conflicts are a manifestation of bad programmeing, bad software archtecture & bad management on the part of the directors of CCP for not resolveing (Sacking) the problem,as this has been going on for years.maybe all their staff family members,so i bet if someone in ccp can even bother to read this & other posts instead of being on fackbook they will be thinking (**** off). |
