Originally by: DarkTemplarCrimsonWolf Simple solution to CCP extending downtime: ANY additional seconds/minutes/hours/days/months/etc added to the downtime for a patch shall be refunded to the player, no sense in us losing money for poor patch preparation beforehand (sorry to be mean but after 8 years of this it ain't gonna pass with me anymore).
So, let's take the monthly amount an account costs ($14.95), and do the math and you come up with about 50 cents per day. Slightly more than 2 cents per hour. Downtime goes for an extra 3 hours. You want your 6 cents back?

In the IT World, this is called demand management.
I suppose CCP has never heard of ITIL
That and any decent change plan has a backout. If you get to that point and you're still not done you begin backing out the change, go back to planning and reshedule it for another time.

@CCP
I know there is the news and dev blogs about patching and when it is happening, but could you at least have a notify/popup for everyone when they log in to let them know and to remind them to set long skill to train so we can end this winefest of people who fail to plan ahead, read news at login, and then demand SP for DT..

Originally by: cyrrus strongarm what the hell! look,i am a reasonable person..i dont ask for much or, complain very often. i dont even mind that the server is down for six, or even more, hours. my only concern is that i want to play the game. i have been waiting patiently, since 1530gmt for the expected 1600gmt fix. then like at about 1550 (or so) the time was extended by an hour. then i wait for another hour then, just about the time its supposed to go live...it gets extended by an hour and a half... if it was an honest mistake or something, that is fine... if there are issues and you are going to go through with an extention of downtime, amend it accordingly...it is a real pain to have to keep waiting, just to come to the deadline and have to wait longer. if i had known, i would have done something other than read this thread for 2hrs...
u mad bro?
and lol at you reading the thread for 2 hours......

You guys should run a test server so that you can test these deployments before deploying them live.

Why would anyone be jealous of Mac users' hardware when it's always at least 2 years older than the newest PCs' hardware? My average gaming rig about 2-2,5 years back has the same hardware as the newest iMacs

Originally by: THe assAssian Well for all of you throwing a fit about your skills and want money or SP there is a part in the terms that all of you had to agree to play eve where they are not reliable to refund us anything for downtime becuase we pay for patches and stuff. Yes I know my wording may not be correct and I am not going to spend my time looking it up but next time mates make sure you put in a skill that takes a few days. So when incarna comes out next month be prepared to wait a day or so. If you are wondering what to do. Here is a list of things: Study if you have exams, go outside (swim, run, play a sport), go out to lunch with your friends and grab a drink, watch TV,or go to the movies. So if you are one of those people that just keep looking at these posts or keep hitting that space bar go do one of those things. Cheers and safe flying
Agree, this is mentioned in the End user licence agreement and is part of normal operational procedure, the fact that ccp gives us an ETA is a complete bonus and they are not constrained to a time dead line, really this could take all week if they wanted to sit back and chill

Yes. You're stu.... not that bright.
Now i not only hope CCP will up the minimum requirements really high, i actually hope downtime will last at least another five hours. Why ? Because there's the small hope some of you just give up and leave forever. :)
Oh i love patch day ... *lol*

Good day:
Since time is isk, it would be nice if CCP reimbursed us 50,000,000 isk for each hour of down time extended beyond what was originally planned.
On a separate note, as a fellow software engineer, it would be nice to know how come after years of patching Eve they are rarely on target for how long a patch will take; you would think that after years of patching their own software, it would be more of a science especially if they are testing the patches.
Thank you. --- Mara Abraham

DOWNTIME HAPPENS, I get it and understand it. I am not crying for skill point credits or gimmie gimmie to CCP.
However, i do have a very limitted time i can actually play as many who work or have kids would. SOOOO...
If they set a deadline and miss a deadline like they seem to often do, or an update takes a good half a day like this one is, i would hope then that they would give all players an extra day of game play before monthly fees are due. They calculate down to the minute and second when your bill is due. Why not add an extra day of game play when we as players paid to play for this day, but we are denied that ability due to downtime?
Just a reasonable request in my opinion.

Why is it whenever there is a delay in a patch all people do is winge and whine about it.Do you not have a real life to do things in while eve is down. Its the same every time its more irratating than the extended downtime itself

Well, maybe they should actually test their patches out before deploying them, instead of deploying them THEN "discovering" problems randomly all of the sudden. Isn't that was SISI is for in the first place? Discovering these problems, and fixing them before the patch is released? It's a little bit annoying, and very un-professional. They must have outsourced to India, or China or something.

Of course not.
Why ?
Because you should WAIT until they are done and say so. Prematurely patching the client can backfire so hard ... ... you should actually continue trying to patch the client ... ... so ppl can laugh at you when your client is broken for good. :)
