Thank you for the prompt action CCP.
While I'm sure many people were frustrated about not being able to play the game for a couple of hours, I bet they would have been far more outraged by a "Codemasters" incident

are they mad that ccp was considering letting ion cannons fire on the planets (from dreads) and the confusion that might cause with their beloved Low Orbit Ion Cannons?

"The hacker community was again busy Tuesday, with LulzSec targeting gaming companies like Minecraft and Eve Online.
Hacker group LulzSec said it took down the Web site for CCP Games' EVE Online as well as Minecraft and Escapist Magazine.
LulzSec said it "wiped out the login server for Eve Online," taking its Web site down, too." - PC MAG
This guy is malevolent. He got his ion cannons off other cyber punks and just goes on a spree hitting anything without any justification (there was none for us, he just felt like it). Unfortunately you cannot prevent a DDOS attack and Lulzsec had enough competence to hit anyone without worrying about being traced. CCP can't do anything, but maybe reinforce the network 100-times fold, but that would be sometime SOON(TM).

I have to say, this community is NOT one I'd want to hack, or pay someone else to hack.
Plus, to even *claim* credit from ccp for banning a player? Really? I mean, do these individuals not know who CCP is?
I truly expect a lot of perma-bans after this. Or maybe have the Jove wardec that alliance, and station camp them into oblivion. It's CCP's game, after all, and their game world.

because they are likely to have taken precautions against ddos attacks?
You want to select targets that are notorious enough to generate some publicity when hit (e.g. Linkage) but small enough that they won't have planned their infrastructure & procedures with that scenario in mind.

Edited by: Prince Kobol on 15/06/2011 08:20:34 Well looks Atlas are taking credit for the DDoS attack by lulzsec.

This has now been taken down but they have also posted a youtube video stating they were responsible.
Whether they are full of bull**** and trolling or are indeed telling the truth If I was CCP I would just wipe Atlas of the face of the map for the lulz :)

How can CCP be sure? Their logs always show nothing.

Because blizzard would hire a hit team.
I mean just look in the WOW EULA they reserve the right to take control of your computer while you are accessing their game with it.

Edited by: Pthyxis Khungfachst on 15/06/2011 08:28:58 Dumb move to attack servers full of cyber-criminals playing thier favourite game. If the rumours of a revernge attack are true, it's like punching all the other mafia's in the face with a big plank for being caught by the rozzers. And DDOS is soooo lame, my 9 year old son could do it. As is listing directories from apache servers.
Yeah we could all do the same, like overwhelm the emergency services with lame calls using diallers. It isn't big or clever, and it isn't exposing anything we don't already know. Anyone can become a terrorist, (it's not exactly difficult to achieve in life becoming a selfish egocentric criminal), blow up a train or a skyscr-aper - but that's not success is it? And I woudln't go bragging about it - that's even more dumb.

Well the US has already said that it might get the Military involved as it considers lulzsec hacks to US sites to be terrorists attacks and such a threat to National Security

Yeah that's why the US has not siezed lulsecurity.com and Twitter still hasn't locked Lulsec's twitter publicity feed.
Wonder why? Perhaps they are letting it happen so the hacker group support base turns against them, namely gamers and geeks.
Psyops? Stinks like it more and more.
Call the Lul request phone number, and you will probably find it is either Israelie or American accents/dialects.

Notice I said "memories".
Old news, database breached and modified.
Nothing to worry about.
2011, just a little DDOS. Nothing to worry about... just the fact that DDOSs are used to cover breaches often.
Lulsec never leave empty handed, you should talk to Epic, they lost their password and email database, discovered after their site was DDOS'd on June 14th 2011, wait, that was the same day Lulsec DDOS'd CCP too.
See the pattern of using DDOS's to cover breaches. See the history profile of lulsec, breach->steal data->DDOS

CCP, props to you to keeping our stuff safe. Crap like this can happen, and I know its a huge blow if someone is trying to take down a product you have worked on for so long. I hope you don't lose any customers due to this mess, & keep the good work coming -
