How much will horse armor be in the Noble Exchange?
Players would like to customize their avatar without spending more than they spend on their subscription. Why is that so hard to understand?
Avatar clothes is not real-life clothes! Holy cow, I can't believe that is in the blog as an explanation.

I've worked in game development and can respect the fact that internal documentation does not in any way reflect the overall aims of the company as you suggested. The things published in those are never meant to be read by the public at large for this kind of reason, and i respect it fully. Its internal, and it doesn't get contextualized outside of the development process properly.
In fact, the amount of insecurity now that rules after people see good honest descent and debate from inside the company just re-affirms my position that people cannot handle "the truth" so to speak. Everyone keeps saying how they want to hear from you guys without "bull****" doesn't seem realistic of a request at this point. Those internal letters don't have a lot of bull**** in em and people are scared to death from it.
That being said, those insecurities by the community are at an obvious all time high right now after the dawning of an expansion that brings very little to peoples gameplay outside of a foothold into new content we can't see the ultimate direction in from this point.
You guys need to start doing some damage control, bring out some free ships and start trying to re-assure everyone that you guys do in fact have a lot of love and interest in your brilliant property that is EvE online.
damage control damage control damage control and eventually when we can walk out of our HQ to a casino or somethin, all the people that have quit might come back!

I play this game cause i like internet spaceships and I love the sandbox. I dont need The Sim's in-space.
Oh, and Incarna really isnt that great right now. It's ok at best; and yes, I love my couch.
Fearless as a company value; that one made me rofl. It defo doesnt feel that way to me. Why hide for a few days and wait for a storm to calm down? Why not the courage to awnser the question with 'No, we will not add P2W content for the next year. We will evaluate that during the 2012 fanfest and look forward to an active open dialogue with our customers on the subject'

My first and only thought after reading that was
That was it?!?
You guys have had a storm building for a while, and about 3 days of threadnaughts thrown at you, during which time you have apparently been monitoring the forums so you can accurately sum up our concerns to your bosses. That dev blog did nothing. Anyone could have had a 10 min overview of the situation and then written that blind. And no, that did nothing to address the elephant in the room. I don't think it's the only problem, but the last threadnaught had about 50+ pages of bright yellow bold oversized text asking a very simple question about the future of MT, specifically, will it remain vanity items only? You completely avoided this, COMPLETELY. We know from the disclaimer that the newsletter is opinions and viewpoints only, but they are the opinions of some very important people.
I guess that gives us the answer though....

Are you ****ing kidding me right now? That in no way came even close to addressing the PRIMARY CONCERN OF YOUR CUSTOMERBASE!
1. Are you planning to move beyond vanity items and into game affecting items in the MT system?
2. Clearly define how you define the term "vanity items", so that you can't try to get away with anymore sneaky **** in the future.
We understand that if Soundwave had his way, we'd all be paying $3000.00 per year to play Eve, ala the golfer in his article example, but seriously...stop insulting our intelligence and get us someone important enough to address our actual concerns and not just the ones you wish we really had.
Sure, I'd love to downgrade the severity of the problems that I deal with at my job, but some things just aren't realistic.
This has done nothing but further enrage and alienate your customers, those that once loved you and your game...once upon a time...

$1000 on a pair of jeans i mean common i have a good job and nice things but where does ccp think their players are spending $1000 on jeans lmao guess thas why they think its ok to charge that much for pixels my 2 accounts will stay canceled so i can go get me some of these jeans and be the envy of everyone in real life! player since 06 and i even thought this patch was kinda cool with the new guns and once CQ was fixed but im not going to be insulted.

All I can say is "wow". As a Mac user, this is one of the worst patches I've gone through since joining EVE in late 2009 and the issues surrounding MT, CQ, and dual client use really concern me.
But still, even after reading the long threads all over Eve, Helicity's blog as well as others, and the sometimes hysterical raging, I remained somewhat ambivalent on what is happening. Then I read this response by CCP Zulu .... Wow. It actually ****ed me off.
For the first time I'm seriously considering unsubbing my plex accounts - two used for wormholing. I have a few months left on my six month sub account which I'll keep playing. Maybe I can get some null sec pvp in or something before it times out. I hope that something will change before it does. Otherwise, I don't really see the point of staying.

I was sitting on the fence about this until I could see how CCP responded. Now, based on your complete disregard for answering any questions, and instead telling the community to go jump, I am not going to be re-subbing my 3 accounts when they expire.

I do not care about vanity items at all. As long as they do not have ANY impact on game mechanics.
I'll keep it to jeans, as it seems to be a concept within people's grasp: no matter what kind of jeans you are wearing, you have same rights as another person, same opportunities. At least that's how it should be. If ccp introduces ingame items for real money, and by ingame items i mean those that have any kind of impact on game mechanics, be standings or, god forbid, sp. That will make the difference, as it will give advantage to those that use real money to boost their characters.
At present moment, players can buy items and ships for real money through plex system. I still deem it fair, as more fundamental things, such as standing and sp must still be earned, and because plex real purpose is to get game time, it's demand is limited. Aurum removes that limit, as it is possible to "use" plex to buy items (it is not the same as selling plex for isk, as in plex-> isk transaction the plex stays intact and can only be "used" if game time is bought with it (blowing it up is another option, though it is not that popular)). So before incarna, eve demand for plex was equal to amount of accounts that pay for eve with plex. Now it is infinite, which can skyrocket plex prices.
Now what will happen if ccp allows players to get standings and security status for money? I think it will make possible a whole load of griefing. "Smart Jita undock, pay 5$, rince, repeat". That's one scenario. Sp for real money? Well, everyone will be flying a titan. A 3 day old character, with enough money, will be as good as a 4 year old character without money. So players will be left with the following options: kneel_and_open_your_mouth/bend_over and entertain those_with_more_money_than_you | enter the real money race, e.g. spend as much as others do until you go bankrupt, in real life | quit the game.
It has been a long standing tradition, from long ago before eve existed, that real world wealth should not have effect on game experience. During last few years (yes, 7 is few) a new wave of online games spawned, which are not aimed on keeping a long-lived player population but rather rely on short lived/high revenue per capita populations. Korean fps, korean mmorpgs, some browser games. Lacking the quality and complexity to keep players interested for long, they suck them dry in a few months, players move to the next game with shinier swords / bigger **** / cutier pets.
That kind of economical model, in my opinion, won't suit eve, because of the complexity of the game. So if ccp will adapt rmt for non-vanity items in game, their next step, logically, will be to change the game for a new kind of player population. If the whole game will be experienced in a couple of months, it will call for simplification of game mechanics. Concepts of turret tracking, resolution, signature, optimal, falloff, angular speed and so on will be way too difficult and not interesting for the ludio novus, as it's mentality is "i pay money, now entertain me". So the game will have to be adapted, to become a bliss, pew-pew fireworks. "Making decisions that have effects and planning ahead is not funny". So i guess eve will have to become ankle-shallow to comfort the new kind of players.
Post TL;DR :
Vanity items are ok; other items - no. The infinite plex sink is not ok as it will probably skyrocket plex prices (i pay for accounts with rl money, but not everyone does). ZULU's blog is a fail.

Thanks for replying to the community's concerns.
I did however feel I just wasted 30 seconds of my life reading it.
Makes it pretty clear to me that you don't really care that much about your players and your only interested in ripping us off and fleecing us, which is a shame I held out for the longest time hoping that wasn't the case.

Originally by: Kalen C'Fean Well, I was going to do a long, in-depth, point-by-point comment on this dev blog, but the forum post limit won't let me, so I'll restrict myself to two key points:
1) This newsletter is fairly clearly not a selection of 'views and opinions', but a vehicle for justifying and/or selling the concept of microtransactions, and not just for vanity items. As should be abundantly clear by now, this is seriously objected to by the playerbase of Eve.
2) The prices of the items that are currently in the NeX store don't equate to $1000 jeans, as is the analogy given. The 'Sterling' Dress Shirt, for example, is 3600 AUR. 1 Plex converts to 3500 AUR. Plexs, on the market where my character is, range from 370-470m ISK. I can get a Raven battleship, in the region where my character is at, for under 100m. So, actually, if you think of a Raven as decent mid-range car, this shirt is like a pair of jeans that costs more than three times what you paid for your car, which, unless you got one hell of a deal on your car, is much, much more than $1000.
Very well put. --------------------- Countdown to sub running out: 8 days. |

what gets me , is micro means small - but these payments are hardly small when you have to spend nigh on 60 pounds in rl money to own 1 item.
Some of us play fb and there micro payments thing can be considered to have taken off - because for a few dollers you can get your moneys worth in items that are usefull and help in the game, i for one can afford 10 monicals but i will not be buying one ever the prices are rediculas !

That's a lot of letters on that blog just to spell out "F.uck You." To be honest, I didn't really care much about things that "might" happen. I was content with Eve and would at least play until I saw proof positive of the MTs, then quit. However, what I won't stand for as a consumer is basically being told "F.uck You" by someone on the team. I unsubbed, showed my 2 buddies the blog (and the debate which caused it to be posted) and they unsubbed all their accounts as well.
You may still have people playing and you may keep enough around / get new blood enough to run your company and keep Eve going, but there ARE other games out there and I'll be going to one now. I'm not so blind as to think me quitting will disrupt Eve's cashflow, but I won't stand for being told to shut up and like what I'm paying for. Might as well just not pay for it, right?

Edited by: Etioki Otumone on 24/06/2011 22:21:08 I am a new player, but I have been watching EVE for some years. I like Incarna and the future possibilities it predicts. Having said that, I understand the concerns of the players that have been spelled out over and over again and that CCP seem to ignore. That blog was an absolute failure. It is an empty piece of rhetoric that absolutely says nothing.
Again, I like Captains Quarters and I could care less about the Noble Store (although I personally think that the prices are very steep), but this blog seems to be written with a blatant disregard of the players concerns.
Not good, CCP.

So let me get this straight,
You post a devblog about something, yet you don't address it.
Really CCP, it's simple, just state that you Never will implement an non vanity Cash-shop.
but since you're not doing it, we can come to the conclusion you are going to implement a non vanity cash-shop.

The hasty devblog said nothing we didn't already know.
I suspect we'll have to wait for the offices to open on Monday before we get an answer to the question "Will the AUR store sell non-vanity items for eve in the future?"
However, consider that CCP is trying to introduce DUST and finding a way of meshing the 2 games together. I fully expect AUR to be pivotal in this regard, as you will pay your mercs with AUR, maybe gain AUR when you 'win' I also suspect this could be construed as gaining an advantage through the AUR store.
Therefore the question becomes less clear, AUR will probably be used with DUST to gain advantage, and by consequence Eve.
If this is the case then I breathe more easily.
But if the idea is that there will be exclusive 'Eve' items to gain an advantage, such as those mentioned in the eve internal newsletter, guns ammo ships etc. then I will be leaving the game as I don't want to play a "Pay to Win" game.
