I myself enjoy frigates and cruisers as they are cheap, readily available everywhere, and versatile.
And yes, the Rifter is probably the best Frigate in the game, and opens the door to the Dramiel, which is just wtfoverpowered. - Begin Signature -

As a new guy...Drake...Drake Drake Drake Drake Drake!
30m isn't too bad for a hull, it's all passive tank and missile skills which means you don't have to train gunnery skills or cap skills except to run active hardeners.
Once you get a decent tank on the thing then you'll have to really try to get it blown up, and as a new guy replacing hulls is usually your biggest expense. Yeah, the firepower isn't really anything special, but by the time you realize that you'll probably be blowing through level 3 missions like nobody's business and planning out your first CNR or tengu purchase.
And as an added bonus it doubles as a fairly decent pvp ship when fitted properly. |

Drake!!!? I hate the drake!!!!
If you are a noob, all you need is a Magnate or Anathema with combat probes and a Destroyer with Salvagers, a Proto Cloak and some Warp Core Stabs... lol...
After you have the ships, just go to a mission running hub and scan for player doing missions in Marauders, Battleships and Battlecruisers....
Get their position and warp in with the destroyer, turn on the cloak and wait for them to leave, then start salvaging and looting their stuff lol!!!!
If you want to spice things a little more... Start salvaging their wrecks in the face of the mission runner or "LOOT" the stuff in the wrecks and wait for him to lock you, after he do, warp out lol!!!
Oh wait! Sometimes they destroy the wrecks... If they do, just keep moving from wreck to wreck, each wreck they destroy, is one less wreck for them, after all the point is not in the wrecks you get, the point of this is the wrecks they dont get... You can encourage them to keep destroying the wrecks!!! Keep it up boy, shoot more wrecks...
One last thing... from time to time people will flood your inbox with hate mails or will bash your name in local... I have to be honest, I enjoy when people trash me in local, it feels lovely, I personally need to keep my emotions at bay because sometimes I simply fall in love with those mission runners because their tears are so cute... I could use a Teddy Bear right now...
Anyway, if probing is not your thing, then get a thrasher with artilleries and camp the amarr or jita gate, when someone flying in the pod shows up... You shoot him!!!! BOOM!!!! Make sure you have a nice low sec or null sec corp that is willing to give you protection after that lol!...

Clearly, the most correct answer is the curse. It has you training everything that you will need to do whatever it is you will most likely find yourself doing in the future. It is hands down, the best solo pvp ship in the game. Amarr cruiser 5 gives you access to cloaky recons, powerful armor logi, respected Command ships, fierce roaming zealot gangs, access to ideal ships for incursions, effective wh gangs, hard devoters, plus solid-omni tanking armor, and laser skills, and a respectable T1 line of cruisers. While working into the curse, you can prepare for it effectively by flying the arbitrator drone boat, which follows a similar mold. With the advent of Time Dilation, lag warfare will no longer bless the passive shield tanking ships above the active armor tanking ones. With lag, passive shield ships kept their tank, while active tanks failed due to modules not cycling, but as TiDi rolls in, this massive bias will soon disappear. So my vote is clearly with the Curse simply because Amarr cruiser 5, drone skills, and neut skills (helps logi energy transfer) open so many doors effectively. Then there is of course the Legion strategic cruiser available with a few other skills as well. |

I'm Gallente. I like Incursus. If I cross train, the Rifter. I like Federation Navy comet for faction (More firepower than the combat interceptor Taranis, just lacks the MWD bonuses but I'm not into PvP), and Iskur for Tech 2 (Jaguar for cross-training). For big ships, I like Myrmidon. I'm thinking I'll like both the Dominx and Megathron, but don't know what I'll like better for battleships. I'll be training tech 2 frigates before I'll train battleships. |

As a newb you need to start making a bit of isk before venturing into 0.0, you should try venturing into 0.0 as soon as possible if you failed the first time, wait a few days then try again when your confidence is back up again.
Not all regions are equal in EVE and not all ships are equally versatile depending on where you use them.
But you can get into 0.0 and make some good isk pretty fast this way:
Kestrel>Caracal>Drake
Amarr or Minmatar Frig V > Purifier or Hound
Venture into an NPC 0.0 region where the belt rats don't like either EM or EXP, for example Stain or Great Wildlands.
With the right fit on the you can start making good money (Hint use an afterburner and range to your advantage), while being relatively mobile because of your Covert Ops Cloak. You will make some mistakes on the way but hopefully you learn from them and adapt to 0.0 and make some friends on the way, you might join a corp or form one yourself with your friends. It can be a lot of fun. |

I think the first ship that any new player should shoot for is their faction of choice's Strategic Cruiser. On top of usually being a good ship, the required skills leading up to it are some that Newbies forget to (or only train to level 4) train up to 5. Engineering, Navigation, Gunnery, Electronics, etc.
Once you can fly those, move on to a BC where you will be relatively effective in PvP as DPS/Fodder :) |

I found that for starting off, Assault Ships, the Jaguar in particular was a lot of fun to fly and run agent missions on. I don't remember having any trouble on L2's, with only an assault ship. When time came to upgrade, I went right into heavy assault ships. But the final result is a toss-up between my two personal favorites: The command ship Sleipnir and the marauder Vargur. |

This for Minmatar pilots only...tech I ships
Mision runners train Rifter (lvl 1), Thrasher (lvl 2), Cyclone (lvl 3), Maelstrom (lvl 4), Vargur (lvl 4, fastest mission runner). Train shields and guns.
PVPers train Rifter, Thrasher, Hurricane and Typhoon. Train a bit of everything because these ships are "versatile" meaning you can fit them to your heart's content and then some. Especially the Typhoon.
Of course you can run missions in the Hurricane and Typhoon except not as quickly. Of course you can PVP with the Cyclone and Maelstrom. Don't PVP with a Vargur unless you have lots of isk and goooooood back up in your corp. |

Look at all those lows... Nano, power relays, damage mods.
Fun, flexible and good for both missions and PVP.
Everything above :)
Hands down, the Myrmidon is my favorite ship. I've got Myrms fit for missions, sleepers, pvp, gas mining, discrete hauling... I even have a salvager Myrm (retired now since the Noctis came out). Over two years of playing, and I still fly a Myrm for something every day.
All of the battlecruisers are dang good ships to aim for .
Next to the Myrm, I love my Anathema. Covops are so much fun to fly, cloaky warping is a kick! Especially handy when you need to haul a load of sleeper salvage or blueprints around.
And finally, as has already been said, the mighty Rifter ... that is one ship every pilot should have a dozen or so of.

Well if an advice is wanted for what a new player should train to find into eve easier i simply would answer the "Drake"
Why?
well its a nice boat with good defence and a pretty nice offence. Missiles are pretty quickly trained aswell as shield skills and for missiles always hit on and you dont have to go with calculating optimal range and fall off.
So you are new and want an easy go and some nice money doing missions?
The Drake is your choice.
Personally i love my Macha, its a nice ship to go for and play with :P |

Imicus (Gallente Frigate) is versatile - you can mine, travel with your loot, probe, and fight using drones. It's underrated. Next do any of these: Helios, Vexor and Myrmidon (all Gallente), fun and versatile. That's what I'd do.
For would-be PvPers: To PVP you need to specialize, so think on your own preferences then pick based on your desired piloting style. Generally:
- Tank (Amarr ) - laser DPS, armor, slow preferred in fleets
- Puppetmaster (Gallente) - drones, strong armor, neutralizing energy (stopping power) preferred solo pvper, missions
- Demolitions (Caldari) - missiles DPS, shields and elect. warefare (stopping power) preferred in fleets, missions
- Sniper (Minmitar) - Speed, versatile DPS and tank preferred solo pvper
- Builder (ORE) - industry, mining, hauling, etc.
Determine your style and train for Battle Cruiser of that race - that's a hefty ship with a reasonable price point.
But your next ships doesn't matter as much as your judgement. Situational-awareness is the currency of PVP. To earn it:
- Memorize ship names and how they're generally used - know what your up against b/c evasive action is 1/2 the game.
- Know the map, especially your immediate area - regions have personalities, routes; ask people and use: DOTLAN
I'd invest time in the above, and repeatedly fly any cheap ship that matched my style. Fly different styles and don't be precious with your ships. Insure them and risk them daily - forget implants, rigs and T2 until you can be calm in combat. The faster you break through your fears (traveling, losing, talking in voice comms), the faster you will improve. With enough experience you'll know what to do without thinking about it, like any sport. |

With enough experience you'll know what to do without thinking about it, like any sport. Correction: Forget Implants, rigs, T2 or high meta-level modules, until you can be calm in combat. Sure, you may have 10 Arbalest Rocket Launchers lying around. Those things are worth more than your ship. Don't risk losing them until you're able to fly while not panicking (Don't know how it's spelled.)
I personally don't PVP (unless agressed or in WH), so I can't provide any useful hints for PVP-ships.
I do, however, know that regardless of what people tell you, you should go for a ship you want to fly, and that suits your play-style (meaning "don't fly logistics if you're not into being a 'healer'. Just leave the corp telling you to fly logistics then.").
Regardless of your favorite career path, it is always a good idea to have a Badger, Iteron Mark I, Wreathe or Bestower in handy, just in case you have to go pick up large supplies of stuff somewhere, and your corp's dedicated industrial-pilots aren't online. Don't train for a Freighter, if you know you're not gonna need it much. |

Its better to fix current ships than introducing a special ship for new players that wil leave anyway when they can "advance"to other ships that are broken.
The electronic attack frigats could be perfect as support in small roams. T1 ships are not wanted becasue they are horrible, faction frigs are little bit too expensive for new players and intercepters are just outclassed by most shiptypes.
Let me help u guys a bit;
- Fieldanalyse (by playing the game)
- Explore possibilities
- Compare ships and alternatives possiblities, (skill load, operational capabilities)
- Keep in mind everyship has its own specialisation so it should be fit perfeclty for that and be expert in that
- Become EFT warrior (its rly win)
- Put everything down with 1 or 2 perfect fitting for end use u want to use the ship (iow, ares = tackler, ranis is damage)
- Ask community advice if u can not make it to this part, or hire me as external advisor (im very resonable)
- Make new drafts
- Launch on sisi
- There u go u evaised the problem by fixing ships instead of waisting recourse on just making new ships
If u do not do this u get stuffs like this, example the kitsure, L5 skills max base target range 55 km, optial from the jammers = 50 km...... |

Well, it's a hard choice really.
I'd say there are a few guidelines I always give newbies who ask me about ways to go:
Miners - quite obvious, go for the retriever asap and then grind slowly for the hulk, in most corps a retriever will be given free of charge to the members who want to mine.
PVP: People who like to support others rather than fight them selves - first go for the stealth bomber asap as it's easy to fly, relatively hard to lose and really useful. When you've got that, grind for t2 cruisers and logi ships in particular.
People who like to be the big damage hitters - go for bc first, then go for BS when you've got optimal BC support skills.
People who like to be useful but not the damage-dealing type and don't like to sneak around - go for interceptors / interdictors.
PVE: I'd recomend to go for battleships asap. I know a lot of people don't like that noobs fly battleships, but those are the fastest mission grinders to earn your first iskies. If you'r in 0.0, a BC will be enough to earn decent isk, but not in high sec.
Gallente - the domi if you want to be drone-oriented, megathron if you want to be rail-oriented. Amarr - probably just jump from the smallest to the highest battleship as you earn your isk. Minmatar - no bloody idea :D Caldari - raven all the way. |

Ceptors, ceptors, ceptors ... Ceptors are cheap and skilled in a short amount of time. With a ceptor you have to know everything related to pvp like range of neuts, scrams and webs, tracking of different turrets, transversal and a lot more. So ceptors are basicly the best ship to learn pvp without dying at the next gatecamp |

Best advice I can give is look at the certificates. They show the skills to be trained and give useful info on ship mechanics, such as shield recharge being maximum at 33% shields. Where else would a new player find out this stuff?
Regardless of how the player wishes to proceed in the game, it's a fact that combat skills are necessary, so I'd advise training frigates at the least. A lot of the training is ship systems which is necessary for every ship in the game, so it won't be wasted time.
Finally, give the corporation Eve University a try. They have a wealth of information about the game, and hold classes and practicals. Plus you get a chance very early in your game to get real PvP combat when they take out their fleets. |

Well so ships for beginners after the tutorial...
In general stay away from the expensive T2 stuff at first - at low skills it will not help you much compared to the price it costs. Improving basic skills is more important. This applies to all ships (and gear).
Rifter: just to see how guns and missiles work. And to check out what the difference between armor and shield tank is. And to see what difference skills make. (Come back to the rifter every once in a while with more skills.)
Vexor: to see if you like drones. And to check how armor and shield tanks change on different ship classes. (Recommendation: try flying one of thoes with drones only and salvager and tractorbeams in the highslots in a mission)
Any of the ore ships: Miningbarges followed by exhumers to check out mining. (alternate between mining laser upgrades and cargo extenders)
Itheron Mk X: to check out hauling stuff (fitt multiple cargoexpanders)
Shuttle: hang out in systems around jita (2-4 jumps) on one of the trade routes to see what high sec piracy is :-) If you found a spot come back with a ship with cargoscanner next time and see whats in there and check value and volume.
Not exactly directly after the tutorial:
Any covert ops frigat with covered ops cloak and probes fitted: To check out low-sec, 0-sec and wormholespace (also check out the difference of the cov-ops-cloak to the other cloaks)
Occator: Harden it up to about 100k effective hp and fly it into a gatecamp - just to see how damn fast you die so you wont ever think that freighters have many hp and you can get away with loading them full and relying on hp until friends/concord arrive(s) :-)
Drake: To learn what passive shield tanking is and why everyone talks about this ship. Also check out what energy nutralizers do to other ships while you are at it. ^^ (mind the importance of range even without turrets)
