It's bonuses and ability to tank lend itself greatly to teaching new pilots how to properly train skills. With the drake, you have a GREAT incentive to train an entire skill category: Engineering, with the exception of the capital ship skills. Doing so will make the character a useful pilot any time any where in the future, for shield tanked ships in general.
The ship is also not terribly expensive to purchase and fit, allowing newer pilots to get into it early on and not feel like quitting should they lose one in a mission.
IMO a newbee should train to up to battle cruiser (BC) and stop. The hurricane and the drake as mention previously is a great ship for PVE for isk making and for pvp. You can never go wrong with BC in general since they are all around good flexible ships to have. Then train your support skill, a lot of newbees forget how important those skill are. The work on getting those nice T2 ships once you have the skills to properly fly them.
After I trained up to BC and trained all my support skills the next stop for me was cruiser 5. Cruiser 5 opens up so many options from pure dps dealers like the vagabond to support ships like the scimitar, you will never be turn down for a pvp fleet and for PVE you can go for the tengu for isk making.
That was the particular way I went, everyone is different so find your own particular play style and go for it but for Gods sakes JUST DON'T FLY WHAT YOU CAN'T EFFORT TO LOSE. |

I stuck to my races ships. So that narrowed down some of my learning. I would have to say the important thing is to learn your core skills. The recomended skills on any given ship help you pilot it so much better. My self and corpmates have said in the past "Hey I can fly this ship", only that's it, we can only fly it, but use it to its full potential we were very far from. If your a pvp person, there are all kinds of ships even within your races to choose from. It's easy to google a name of a ship and check other peoples fits, they are usually more advanced than you can fly, but you can change them to a t1 fit or something closer to your skill level. This applies to any ship. When you get the hang of it, you can start applying this to any ship, mixing and matching parts to suit your needs. When it comes to mining, I started out in wreathe its what they gave me. For a time you can sell the raw ore, then the refined versions when your skills allow. Then eventually you will want to expand to better things, such as production. You will want to get to a retriever atleast, if your serious a Hulk. Corps always need miners. The main thing when chasing after any ship whether you need it or not, is that you have to keep in mind you will always be training skills. Its an ongoing process that everyone is doing. There is always something to be learned. I didn't pick a specific ship, cause for a new player just learning about the game is key. Things that we experience pilots take for granted they have no clue about. Its hard to remember being a new pilot, there is all kinds of aspects of Eve that make it great, good and bad, If we didn't have both we would be bored. Navigating those perils and pearls are a new player's challenge. It's going on each day, Have fun with it all. |

Wow, there are some godawful replies in here. Noobs should *not* have faction battleships as a starting goal, as they require cross-training and a lot of isk, and noobs tend to die horrible deaths very frequently. For PvE they should aim for bc's first (myrm, cane, harb, drake), then the bs of their choice (probably domi, raven, apoc, or mael). PvP depends on race.
Amarr: Punisher, Sentinel, Arbitrator, and Harbinger are all good for solo or gang work, though the ewar boats take a bit more sp to fly well. Caldari: Merlin, Hawk/Harpy, Drake. ECM boats are great for gang work as well. Gallente: Incursus, Ishkur, Vexor, and Myrmidon. Blaster boats can be either amazing or complete duds depending on how they're flown, so I don't recommend them for noobs. Minmatar: RIFTERRIFTERRIFTERRIFTER. Then Jaguar, Rupture, and Hurricane.
Those are all ships that I think can be flown effectively with moderate sp and isk, without training any weird off-race skills (ex: shield brutix for Gallente, ac ferox for Caldari). Important things to remember: it's better to have good skills with a cheap ship than crap skills with an expensive ship, and never fly anything you can't afford to lose. |

Tengu or any other t3 really can do almost anything you can ask a sub cap to do. Maybe not well or as a new player but being able to do it all is great. (and at 500 mil for a tech 2 fit its not a bad deal) |

Although I am using hybrid turrets as a Gallente (got gallente ships too)
I gotta say that for a beginner, the Thorax is an awesome good cruiser, Retriever is a nice, basic good steady mining barge, but getting a Hulk is a must :D
Battlecruisers: Brutix... they look amazing, but eventually i will take a Megathron Vindicator class, for the raw heavy damage output. Taranis is a good tackler ship, Ares for a warp scrambler ship.
stealth bomber, i got no idea.
Now just to be sure, I love Gallente ships, but you do not need to stick to the ships of your race, it will just take you some more time learning all the skills and you can pretty much fly anything you like (give or take 2-3 years to learn all skills XD ) |

Well, a lot of these posts confirm that one of the main problems in Eve is ship imbalances. The game is starting down that track where if you are not flying a Drake or a "nano fit cane" that you might as well not bother with certain corps.
I wish it were more like the days when pilot skill at fitting and flying were more important than WHAT you fly. |

Kristopher Arione wrote:For serious PvE Isk making, you need to be in a Nightmare or a Mach. Plan accordingly.
Take it from someone who has been there, done that.
Running missions to make ISK is a dead end which will kill your enthusiasm for the game. Running Incursions is great, mainly due to the social nature and the inevitable connections you will develop.
But in the end, pursuing any activity soley for the ISK-making aspect will kill your enjoyment. The Making ISK guide has many ideas for making ISK in-game. The fastest and most efficient method in terms of converting your time to ISK is simply to buy PLEX and sell them in game for ISK.
In the meantime, I recommend that all capsuleers enjoy the power and beauty of their frigates. |

As a young new capsuleer who is not yet sure what they want to do, I recommend Exequeror. It can carry drones, has good carco capacity, a good number of high/turret points and space for armour plating. It's fine for mining and fighting and collecting... a very versatile ship for its level and cost. |

my advice is to skill up while finding your feet do the tutorials , as the skills go, 1st and most importanta are core skills (with core skills it will open up much ore fitting options and savea lot of mid and low slot grief in fitting later on)
2 nd armor and shirlds concerntrate on maxing your races side 1st EG: gallente armor ,caldari ,shield by this time you should be in a cruiser and sniffing BC `s ass.
in between core skills pop in gun skills here thier till you get medium guns , 250mm hybris is fine for thre BC but when skills re maxed for bc say a myrmidon you should be able to solo a couple of level 4 missions.
when missions become a bore get into a faction ship and get into incs for fleet experience but be preapred for the eve experience as thier are a lot assholes the like to hide behind an avatar and cuase grief and beware the scared bears (pirates) and the biggest scared bears of i wont mention thier name but everybody which allince dosent fight ships that can beat them
the chioce is yours on what you do how you do it and why you do it in eve that what makes this game great apart from the managements stuff ups over the last 2-3 years |

This depends on what sparks there interest. when a new player joins the game and they figure out how to navigate threw the market. they wil probably see ships that spark there interest. they will focuse on that ship then later on, they firgure out that the dont like that ship and doesnt meet there exspectations. i recomend figuring out what you want to fly. like, whatching some pvp videos or, looking at how they can be fitted to suit your style. For the longest time i loved the rifter. IMO i really love the ishkur. if new players are going for any t2 frig and want to pvp.. The ishkur is the way to go, it has great bonuses. Like drone storage and the fact that you can use 5 t2 light drones is killer. Remember there isnt anything wrong with cross training!!

For a long time the Myrmidon was my favorite ship, but along came the Dominix which has proven itself beyond belief for a drone boat. Having strong skills as a pilot of a battlecruiser can lead into battleship skills. For a new player I would recommend spending a great deal of time flying a cruiser and not being in a hurry to get to the bigger isk of level 4 agents. |

I WANT A SHIP THAT IS FAST AND AGILE, DOING MUCH DAMAGE WITH A GOOD TANK!!!!!
or maybe a ship type that can fit "quantum phase" modules, meaning they can phase out of normal space thus be invulnerable for a few seconds (no officer mods with crazy invulnerability times, but maybe storyline/mission modules [epic?], to make PvE more interesting?) but cant fit dps, only propulsion mods and stasis webs. imho meaningless in large scale pvp, but allows serious smartery in small scale pvp.
to abstract that idea: bring in more modules that require pve to get the resources 1. that could be interesting... espionage missions? kill missions? chasing someone doing a different mission? 2. dont make it too strict, let there be t1 mods that serve the purpose 3. dont change game mechanics heavily, introduce ships that operate within the tactical scope present at the moment

Floydd Heywood wrote:The Omen is a nice boat. Medium T2 Lasers are quick to learn and the ship does good damage while still being very cheap. No drones means good for pvp and no separate drone skills required. Next step is Omen Navy which offers a lot of improvement over the Omen with no new skills required except some for the drones, and is affordable and very cost-effective for a faction boat. Nowadays the Omen doesn't even look like **** anymore. The old look prevented me from using it myself as a new player
So much about what your saying shows you are missing something. A) Omen does pathetic DPS. B) It HAS drones. C) When did it recieve a new look? |

i wish i would have known when i started that i could have been flying a stealth bomber on week 4.
there aren't any rules out in null sec. that's the place to be. you don't have to check to see who you're shooting at, you don't have to check to see where the gate guns are... you just find a target and fight. can i get an amen? |

I recommend The Rattlesnake. It's the best tank and drone boat there is. While it is expensive, you will do level 4 missions without any worry. You can "almost" fall asleep in the thing and still be alive. |

Mad Bum2 wrote:Taranisprobably the best small ship out there. Once you've trained it fully you will have good drone and gun skills and be rdy to move on to bigger and better ships. Don't aim for titan or mom ships as once in them you wont be able to leave them safely. (If ccp created a super station that super caps could dock in say 1 per region then I might get one myself but until then not worth the long skill training and effort if you cant get out of them safely and go blow someone up in your cruiser size ship)
Federation Navy Comet has slightly more speed and firepower than Taranis at the expense of the MWD signature bonus, assuming 3 of the low slots are used for armor tank (repper, damage control, adaptive membrane). Both need good drone skills. |

I am going to advise for the newer players, those who have played EVE less than six months.
Train for your Core Competency -- Standard certification ASAP. The biggest mistake I see newer players make is jumping into a larger ship as soon as they can train it to level 1. Especially Battleships. These days I don't even bother with a Battleship in hisec (I prefer T3's). The reason I stress Core Competency -- Standard is to give the pilot more fitting choices no matter what their next ship will be.
Talk with your more experienced corpmates about your next ship and do get help from them on properly fitting it!
Also train those skills that enhance all your ships, like Evasive Maneuvering, Engineering and so on. When I was new one of my early priorities was getting into an Interceptor. The bonus I received was having to train Evasive Maneuvering to 5 which saved my skin on more occasions than I can recall (much better align times). In lowsec what will save your skin is a huge skill investment in Navigation.
If you like warring in highsec then stay in ships of Battlecruiser size or smaller.
It's always better to be in a ship you have trained to level 5 than the alternatives. |

ships are all well and good but what makes or breaks a ship is the fit u have my advice is this learn to fit your ship . this in and of itself is the single most difficult thing about EVE in my opinion due to the fact the there are so many variables in which you need to take into account. and rigs can make the differnce between a good fit and a great 1
if u have a 1/2 assed ship fit then u will have a nice wreck soon enough |

what is the question here? are we asking what is best for new players to fly? or are we asking what the best ship in the game is?
if we are talking about what a new player would just quick train and hop into then we are expecting frigs and cruisers. rifters, ruptures, blackbirds, merlins, omens, punishers, and so on for gallente. cause best of all they are cheap. that and if you get a group of 50 noob blackbirds and teach them just to ecm it'll be a good ol time.
in the long run tho go for a t3. it can do anything |
