Sorry but them prices are a joke and i stay in 5 star hotels all over europe.
The UK price I could fly to america and then to iceland and save third on that.
Could you please release exact dates / timetable with venues info and conference info and prices if available. I will prob make my own way there, and get it on business

Agreed...I would need to get some specifi time frames and such. I doubt I can stay for 5 days so I would need to have a better idea on the schedule.

We (they) are looking into the UK pricing on the fan fest package btw.
The airwaves festival is 19th to 23rd oct, so I'm guessing that the main events will take place 20th to 22nd oct, and considering 21st and 22nd is friday and saturday I'd focus on those days, but thursday as well to be safe. I doubt a schedule will be released until later, so it's a bit uncertain still.

Agreed. As Wrangler says above though, they are re-examining the UK joke of a price, fingers crossed CCP can swing some muscle with Iceland Air and its hotel joke ... er i mean prices
Sad fact of the matter is it does actually work out cheaper to fly to the US and then to Iceland and sort out your own accomodation. Mind you my bird is VA cabin crew, ú300 Upper Class ftw!
As i've stated above i am more than capable of paying these incredible prices but refuse to out of principle. This also means I will not even give them my USD flights either.
Wrangler, Oveur ... our hopes rest with you guys! Have a great weekend and don't forget to watch the cricket AND the Lions, Sheppy Bush Walkabout is where its at!

I can book now and pay around 300 GPB in a 3star with breakfast for the 19th 2 23rd and i can go CHEAPER with some nice proper B&B's where you pay nothing and get great meals and service in them
lets put it this way, i'm going vegas on sunday for 2 wks at around 700 GPB and i'm there for 100yrs of vegas and 4th july, busy times expensive than normal.

So the actual EVE presentations take place at CCP headquarters or at a hotel to be named later? Just trying to get an idea of what's what. There's about $300 difference in pricing depending on what hotel you choose to stay in.
As Gunstar Zero said, it took place at pubs and places around Reykjavik, and one conference center. Although I think it was planned to take place at Nordica, at least one of the events, it had to be moved because there were so many people. And, face it, for $300, you can walk.
I'll walk around the hamlet, no problem. It would be nice to know though exactly where whatever is going to happen is happening.
"Excuse me, where is the Kali presentation for EVE?"
"The who what where?"

Unless the CIA made a mistake, I saw that English is spoken in Iceland. How common is this exactly? I speak only English and was thinking of coming, but don't want to stand out like an American tourist that can't speak to people, just be another American tourist that sticks out and has a funny accent, but can still communicate with the locals. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I think English is mandatory in Icelandic schools, it is in most nordic countries. I think most Icelanders know very good english, though some of them has a big accent. It does sound kind of cool though.
Everyone at the fan fest speaks English, and I used English in all stores and such, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Seems to me Icelandair are just rtying to get as much cash from the brits as they can, I looked into this allready when Fanfest 2005 was mention and mailed Icelandair as I was thinking of staying for a week.
Standard price for 3 nights inclueding transfers and Airwaves entry = ú370 GBP. Extra night cost in any of the hotels in that package is ú45 GBP per night.
prices for normal Airwaves pass
Now this is flying from Glasgow or from London heathrow so me getting this package and staying for a week will cost me ú550 GBP where as if I buy the fanfest package it will cost me ú735 for 4 days and ú99 per day after. total is ú1033 GBP or I could take a week break in Austrailia cheaper.
The fanfest was good last year but paying ú483 GBP for the entry fee is abit mad (joke) I knows its not CCP. but this is the maths and I have the email I recived from Icelandair last month with pricing on it.
Someone in Icelandair has alot to answer for on this.
BTW I have only worked out the ones from the UK but it seems if you click the links on the fanfest info page on this CCP's listing you will find that the prices from other countries to it have also increased 70% or more as most of the other packages are for 2 nights or 3 night the ú735 package is a 4 night package.
But having said that it looks like Icelandair said hell we got 200+ of these morons over last year lets throw a package together whack up the price far above our own Airwaves packages and rake in the cash. Shame on them! and CCp you should take action this is a disgrace.

Well, I told Oveur who told Marketing, so you're a bit late hicks. I did notice that the price was changed on the EVE Fanfest 2005 page, to 475 GBP. Considering it is 56,333.4 ISK it does seem more like the real price. The odd thing is that it hasn't been updated on Iceland Airs site. But to be honest I'm sceptical, it seems like getting the airwaves package and then just buying the fan fest ticket from the store is still cheaper, or use the post I made about creating your own package.
I'll try to bring it up early next week, see if it's the real price or if there's still something wrong.

Yes I have seen Wrangler what I was pointing out is the Airwaves package is ú370 for 3 nights but the fanfest package is ú475 for 2 nights. Now its plain to see Icelandair are trying to take the eve fans for a ride with this pricing.

Most packages are 2 or 3 nights, there is one 4 day package from France, and I think the US packages are longer, or at least they have 4 day packages available. You can also add days to the package, but it costs of course.

Hmm, ú475 is for a 2-night package Friday - Sunday, as is the French Ç615. Last year's price was ú340 for 3 nights, and Airwaves package this year is ú330 for 2 nights, ú370 for 3.
Something is still not adding up
Ah well, looks like booking Airwaves package and buying a Fanfest pass is the way to go, if I am going to bother, especially as the additional cost for extra nights looks to be less booking Airwaves.

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 26/06/2005 11:49:09 Last year was too expensive already for me, this year is nothing short of ridiculous If I may say so. For these prices, I can fly anywhere else in the world and stay longer, do more, be warm.
I probably will not come. Luckily we just did our own little fanfest for our euro guys. I'll guess I'll have to make do with that. _______________________________________________

I cant describe how angry this whole thing has made me.
I find it quite a insult that as i need to fly from the UK that i have to pay so much more and the fact that some music festival is on at the same time and has a identical package is over ú100's cheeper.
I think that CCP needs to talk to the organiser's. As it stands now im wondering if this is the arrangement for the travel and lodgings then CCP should arrange another company (Or Wrangler) to organise it.
I can fly to south america for less, and i probably would if i had a coke addiction.
grrr rant over.

So its STILL cheaper to Easyjet to France and fly from there?
My money will be staying firmly in my pocket for this one. Sorry CCP but Iceland Air are still screwing us over.

Why not create your own package with that Express thing? Or get the airwaves package and get the fan fest ticket from the store?

Because part of the fun of the event was sitting around in the hotel chatting with other fans and drinking till the small hours of the morning. Not impossible if you DIY, but more difficult.
I am hoping that IcelandAir can lower these prices, and pressure from CCP would help that. As it is, I wont be going at those prices. I'll be disappointed to miss it, but I wont be ripped off either.

May I also suggest that the Brits hoping to go to the Fan Fest do as I have just done; e-mail IcelandAir to question their prices, quoting Wrangler's comparison table.
You never know, it might achieve something.

I have to say monty I only checked all the stuff out last month because there was no info up about fanfest packages. I had intented to buy the fanfest package when it came out for the simple reason of us all meeting up in the bar again at the nordica anyway.
It was mearly so I could get a rough guess I figured the fanfest package at maybe about ú50 GBP above the Airwaves package so thought cool, but sadly I am wrong as Icelandair seem to be taking us all for a ride.
Considering I am Irish I still have to pay for flights to Glasgow or to London before ever paying for one of these packages I will not be attending either this year as I have to pay in sterling and get screwed on the exchange rate and have to buy the extra flights and crap.
Unless this is sorted ofc then I will be coming but not at the prices quoted I'm not a millionare.

Hanging out in the Hotel was fun, and the Nordica is EXCEPTIONALLY nice. Rooms are superb and oh man the breakfast is fantastic.

Malarky: It was totaly cool to meet ya last year (old man! hehehe). Email em? It should never of happened!
Gunstar: The Nordican is not "EXCEPTIONALLY nice". To be honest its 'average' for the seasoned travler.
The issue I have is that they tried to rip us stupid. Really rip us like were all UK idiots. Does that not get your goat up? And im not talking about 15% slipped on the bill for a tip you would not of paid but 300 pound. Thats less than a days wages for me but i have serious principal issues. I DO appreciate Wranglers efforts, he did a great job on putting together "budget" trips but they will not be the same "in the same hotel bar" situations we had last year. This is a MAJOR part of it. This is when you really get to meet the people you have met online.
I would not tell anyone not to go. I would not discourage any UK person to go. I am saying that i will not give someone who blackmailed me an almost but still high price after they tried to blackmail me. Does that make sense?

I'm figuring on there being a mistake - If the price is really that much, I don't really understand why. And yeah it gets my goat re: UK getting stuffed on the price of things AGAIN.
Well, you're going to nicer hotels than me dude - can I come work for you? I make excellent cups of Tea.

Edited by: corporal hicks on 27/06/2005 14:17:39 Yes seems Icelandair are in the mindset to charge all of us in the UK and Ireland Double last years price so I guess its no fanfest this year for us.
I mean come on people or CCP or someone last years price ú360 for 3 nights with a single supplement meaning ú390 for 3 nights and ofc it inclueded the Blue Lagoon.
This year ú535 for a single room for 2 Nights and no Bluelagoon trip, adding the extra night on at ú99 and you get ú634 a overall price increase of 62% more this year than last year! not to mention the Blue Lagoon trip which was worth about ú35 again on top of that.
62% more exspensive this year than last year is insane or Iceland has some insane Inflation!

me and missus are having serious doubts about coming this year ... as malarky and hicksy have both pointed out some very good points . getting bevveyd in the hotel and the blue lagoon were amongst the definate plus point's of the the trip last year .Unless theres some sort of change in the current pricing stratagy then im afraid that we may be unable to come
