Just got a new Mail from Icelandair and you wont belive this one......
Quote: Thank you for your correspondence regarding the package for the Eve Fan Fest and Airwaves Festival. Regrettably for 2005 costs have risen in all areas. Matters such as exchange rate changes and increasing fuel prices are unfortunately completely beyond our control.
airfares have increased fuel surcharges have been added large fluctuations in exchange rates - our hotel contracts are in Icelandic kronar and have to be converted to sterling the Eve organisers have asked us to include the conference fee in the package price - unlike last year.
I realise that this information does not make the price look any more attractive for you. However I wish to make clear that this years prices are a true reflection of the costs involved. The standard Airwaves package does not include the same hotel but can of course be booked by anyone, although it does not include the Eve Fan Fest conference fee.
I am passing on your comments to my colleagues in this office and in Iceland who have been involved in making this arrangement for 2005. Thank you for taking the time to give us your comments. They have certainly been noted. I am sorry that you do not find our Fan Fest package satisfactory on this occasion.
Yours sincerely,
OMG thats there reason for charging us through the nose...ahh well, Dam them anyway is all I say. The friggin Nordica Hotel is the problem here I guess.

At least you got a reply. More than I did.
Oh well, guess it will be a DIY package, but I'm damned if I will be using IcelandAir, I'll go Iceland Express even if it is less convenient.

Its official Iceland Air think ALL Brits are stupid. Why is it cheaper for us to FLY TO THE USA and THEN to Iceland??? Fuel Prices Bull... They can bite me. My response to them would breach a few language rules on these forums.
Sorry Malarky/Hicks/Jason, won't be seeing ya this year unless another London meet is arranged.
Guess whilst you guys are in Iceland I will be increasing my beer belly and wrting mug on my forehead to comply with the Iceland Air stereotype. Darwin 4tw

Hicks, I sent another mail to the Marketing department that included the link to your post. I do know that Oveur sent an e-mail to IA this morning about the pricing and I am hoping that the gents in Marketing can get something going.
We're still attempting to work something out and get the pricing reduced. I'm keeping on this and will continue to post updates.

Maybe this is of interest for people flying form Europe: www.icelandexpress.com. Flights are available from Copenhagen, Frankfurt and London Stansted.
It will still set you back 200 GBP (~300 EUR) but it's including taxes (which the Iceland Air package does not include) and if you can find a cheap hotel or some other place to stay this surely is the best way.

Actually not sure if you have read my other posts yet apologiues if you have, the problem is not the Air Fair, its cheaper to fly with Icelandair to Iceland at that time than with Icelandexpress.
The problem from what I can make out is the Nordica hotel, if you check there website the prices for a standard room are a whopping ú172 GBP per night and thats for a not very nice 4 star, trust me we stayed there last year.
So really its the hotel cost is causing the problem.

Originally by: kieron Unfortunately, we will not be able to waive the age limit. Every venue at last year's FanFest had alcohol available, be it the media center, the presentations, or the parties for FanFest or Airwaves. It's a party thrown by a bunch of Vikings! Would you expect less?
The main reason for this +18 thingy for CCP is this:
THE DEVS WANNA BE DRUNK !!!!

Is it possible to buy a fan fest ticket without buying the package deal. I couldnt find a link to just a ticket as i'm in the position where a DIY package would be around ú250 + enterence to the Eve Fanfest

weeeeeeeeeeeeee sunny vegas atm, so lots to do when i get bk, like get bribes off eris for where i got my package info from
reading up so far, even with inflation and feul price increases, i doubt they can get away with charging double. TBH for that prices, don't go and hope the reality check hits CCP and forces em to fly the few DEVS to western europe next year.
I'm bk monday btw so eris i'll sort ya out for a small bribe and i'll bring bk my sig online.
I think one of the no frill airlines goto the venue and coz now i know iceland they speak at least poor english, i'm sure i can go cheaper coz B&B's > hotels.
PS... American TV sux

Yes, tickets for the FanFest will be available in the EVE Store for those that make their own travel arrangements or live in Iceland. Ticket pricing has not been set, but I would expect it to be around the pricing of last year's Fanfest. There might be a slight increase, but what is planned for this year is well worth it.
Also, we are still looking at other travel alternatives. Nothing concrete yet, but news will be posted as soon as it is available.

I'm disappointed that there is no package offered from Finland. I sent them an inquiry, but I might to have to take a connected flight and get the package from Sweden.
Let's hope the UK lads get that price fixed, too
Now I'm just calculating how many grands I need for the booze...

The Conference Pass for FanFest 2005 has been set. Passes are going to cost 65$ per person and will be available in the EVE Store in the near future. Yes, this is 15$ more than last year, but the plans for FF05 justify the slight increase.
CCP is also continuing to work on the travel arrangements. An update should be coming SoonÖ.

All a bit annoying tbh
I can get a flight for ú148 return + tax
I can get a triple room in a hotel in central rejkalotsavowels for ú140 odd each for 4 nights (sharing with corpmates)
But then I can't get an airwaves ticket which means all of central Reykjavik is off limits as all the bars are Airwaves only.
\o/
Someone should just buy a load of airwaves tickets locally and sell them to us foreigners, then we'll all bunk up in rooms in town and tell IcelandAir to stick it :)

Local tickets are not yet being sold, but will be in the future. All you need is a friend in Iceland and either be prepared to send him money or if he is prepared to lend you money until you get to Iceland. I haven't seen a way to buy a ticket out of Iceland without getting an airwaves package.
