Fearless Test Pilots of New Eden,
Today we are releasing the new EVE Launcher weGÇÖve been working on over the last months as an optional download for Singularity. You can find the download here (Windows only at the moment). We welcome you all to give it a try and provide us with valuable feedback, however, you are not forced to use it, the old launcher will do just fine for the time being.
How do you install the new EVE Launcher? Installation is straight forward. Download the (Windows only at the moment) executable file and then install it into the location that contains the Singularity installation you would like to try it out with.
What is new?
- The UI is now mostly driven via a web site
- The self-update mechanism of the EVE Launcher has been made more robust
- EVE Client updates are based on a new transport mechanism as described in previous dev blogs
Be aware that this is an early beta and as such it might cause some issues. This is expected, and we would like to hear from you about all the things that bother you or simply go wrong with your installation. In that case please provide us with a detailed reply containing the following information:
- What operating system you are using.
- The path to your EVE installation.
- The version from which you tried to upgrade.
- From the launcher folder in your Eve installation the following files: debug.log, cache\launcher.YYYY.MM.DD.log (where YYYY.MM.DD stand for Year.Month.Day) and appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-(highest version number)\launcher.exe.log (this last one might not exist if nothing too horrible happened). If you want to make sure upfront that as much information as possible is available in these log files please start the launcher with the /log:debug parameter. Be warned that this might cause log files which are several dozen megabytes in size.
As with every beta release then there are a number of known issues:
- The startup of the launcher can be a bit slow, this is currently being improved.
- There might be some temporary files and folders in your installation path that are not removed correctly. This is no reason for concern and the issue is currently being addressed.
- Postprocessing of the downloaded files is very I/O heavy, and may take up to 20 minutes at the moment. We are working on improving that performance at the moment as well.
- The new transport mechanism was designed for more frequent and thus smaller updates. Currently, however, the updates are still fairly large (read: contain thousands of changed files), which means the update experience is not exactly as it should be later on.
- The old launcher may contain a different website and have a slightly different window size now.
- The version for Mac is currently not available but will follow ASAP.

I've decided to start out fresh from a tranquility client, by copying the folder and changing the shortcut, let it update.
Trying to launch it gives an exception error and this is the log file i found /launcher/cache/launcher.2013.04.30.log
Pressing start eve gives this error message: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5182016/error.png |

So i installed the new beta launcher, initially couldn't log in stopping early at loading screens, popping out error like "connection problems", so after trying several times i found where the problem 's at:
The " /server:Singularity" suffix on shortcut doesn't work properly, it has to be the exact server address " /server:87.237.38.50", otherwise you will have connection problem. |

I tried installing and reinstalling the launcher as per instructions. I may have done something wrong but I can't figure out what.
When I click the Launcher button, a window with the title "Exception" appears with the following content
http://pastebin.com/7PNjjBLP
The following is the log content
http://pastebin.com/0TX2Tt0x
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64 (French)
Note that I can still access singularity from the "exception" window, but the launcher never starts. I've checked the shortcut path and tried to launch the launcher directly with the same results.
The only thing I didn't try is to delete my Singularity client and starting from a fresh one. I will try this later if no other options are found. |

The new launcher is a nightmare if you have multiple accounts! The current log-in procedure already cost me hours of my lifetime but the new launcher will be even worse.
It seems every time I log in an account with the new launcher I have to enter the username (the launcher doesnGÇÖt remember the username), the password and a character name (I donGÇÖt have a static IP)!
EVE has more alt accounts than main accounts. If you modify the log-in procedure you should seriously focus on making it more convenient to log in multiple accounts!
It shouldnGÇÖt be worse than the current log-in procedure at least (currently I have to enter a password to log in an account). It would be even better to have a master account. The master account should show a list of all my characters within the launcher after log-in. Clicking on characters in the list should launch the EVE client.

Good day,
Following my Issue with the "exception" error, the Windows 8 fix did allow me to launch the launcher.
Right now, I can use the launcher to log, which gives me the correct "you are logged as (my username)" message, but the play button doesn't do anything. I tried giving it more time to load but nothing had happened after 30 minutes.
- The New launcher downloading bar is hanging at "100% Validating Data..." - I also noticed that the player count it's giving me is the TQ one, not sure if that's normal. - Firewall is set correctly, temporary disabling the firewall didn't fix the issue. - When I used the old launcher, the patch did load correctly but the new launcher still didn't get past the validation stage at a later try .

It seems like you have the same issue as I had on one machine. Please delete all .patch files in your client folder. Could you please also check for the size of EVE_Online_453216-457011_win.patch? It is probably pretty large and somehow causing problems.

Thank you for your quick response sir!
It did work, and yes EVE_Online_453216-457011_win.patch was very large compared to all other .patch files (1 649 426 Ko). The launcher is currently downloading a new patch (Albeit very slowly compared to my normal DL speed)

It's an absolute MUST that the launcher remember previously entered usernames. Believe me, you are going to have a lot of people that are upset if you don't.
Also: even with "/server:87.237.38.50" set, the launcher shows "Server: Tranquility". I'm just going to assume for now that the launcher is actually connecting and downloading the patch for Singularity.
Also my download speed is pretty horrendous, less than 50 kB/s. Generally when I download patches whether it's for TQ or Sisi my download speeds are in excess of 2 MB/s. This is after deleting all of the .patch files in the client folder. |

The new launcher is horrible. Logging in an account will take even more time. Why donGÇÖt you use this chance to actually improve logging in accounts instead of making it even worse?
In Germany most people have dynamic IP addresses (you get a new IP address every 24 hours). In addition to entering the username and the password those people will also have to enter a character name basically every time they log in.
Also with the new launcher you first have to wait for the launcher to start and then again wait for the client to start.
Why canGÇÖt the launcher simply remember username, password and character name? The new launcher should have an option to automatically log in an account and to automatically start the client without any user input. It should be up to the user to choose whether or not itGÇÖs safe to use that option.

Thank you all for the feedback so far. We're looking into the log-in and start up time issues, as obviously the time from starting the launcher to playing the game is critical. Hopefully we are able to provide a better experience for this after the weekend.
Furthermore we are currently deploying a new build to Singularity which should be available soon. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

I tried this and the new launcher still says TQ for me. I can log in, but I can't launch the game. CCP RedDawn: Ugly people are just playing life on HARD mode. Personally, I'm playing on an INFERNO difficulty...

@ Noriko Mai, read bellow, it may help since it looks like your issue is similar to mine. Warning however: CCP Habakuk's fix "worked" but I had to use the repair tool after deleting the .patch files. (something about my game launching but saying that my version of the game wasn't compatible, but I may have deleted something important accidentally). The repair tool worked but I also had to make a new shortcut after using the repair tool as the old one was creating exception errors.
If you are not 100% certain, I'd wait for an answer from CCP Aporia before doing anything.
CCP Habakuk wrote:Fredrick Kalirande wrote:Good day, Following my Issue with the "exception" error, the Windows 8 fix did allow me to launch the launcher. OS: Windows 8 x64 installation path: D:\Games\CCP\Singularity Old launcher version: V.1.32 Launcher.XXXX.XX.XX log: http://pastebin.com/ez6Gf6Vwlauncher.exe.log: None generated It seems like you have the same issue as I had on one machine. Please delete all .patch files in your client folder. Could you please also check for the size of EVE_Online_453216-457011_win.patch? It is probably pretty large and somehow causing problems.

Not really fast. And also, I can't launch another client.

Ah, there's the problem then. Version 1.32 is the current EVE Launcher. The new one we're testing requires you to install it (please read the first post in this thread, detailing this). As such, you're logging into the new landing page, and expecting the old EVE Launcher to magically know what to do with the credentials. This doesn't work, which is why you're having to do it twice. From the unsupported OS (32-bit) with wine:
The installer threw an exception but launcher came up on when I ran it. Links in installer seemed to work, and I could log in on front page but the status bar froze at 100%, and the play button did nothing. A second try gave an error on loading server info - same as After Shok had reported
I did check the launcher_old to verify the install was ok, logged in normally. Log file was rather large, pastebin choked on it.

Only two things I really dislike about the new launcher layout (should be platform Independent, but I'm using Windows 8 x64):
- The "PLAY" button appears clickable (including mouseover feedback) while the launcher still validates/patches. It just doesn't react to clicking, which can be confusing if you don't know about this fact.
- When asking for the character name, the button to proceed is on the right, where it's rather common to have the button to proceed on the left and the button to cancel on the right (unless we're talking about back/Forward in a wizard style application). This is really confusing to me. Looking for more thoughts? Follow me on http://twitter.com/Aethlyn |

We've just deployed a new version of the launcher which should address a lot of issues people have with downloading and updating. It also speeds up a lot of things. However, since there are also changes to the website required that is running in the launcher, then there might be some intermediate hick ups until that is deployed, most notable you won't be able to start the client. But rest assured, this should be resolved shortly. I'll keep you posted. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

Just installed the latest launcher version and seems to work fine. Currently updating the client, also I hope that in the future the ammount of resources needed for the updates will be recuced.

Hold on, now that I've actually been able to boot up the main game, I have a couple of questions:
1. Are you serious? I can't log in multiple players at once with this launcher. I have to log out an account to log another one in. Did you consider how many people dual box or triple box multiple instances of Eve? I can't do that with this setup.
2. Are you going to fix the above? Because if you don't you will get a huge backlash...
3. Shouldn't it be designed to accomodate multi-boxers, instead of making it harder to multi-box?

This new launcher is pretty obnoxious for using multiple accounts - with the old launcher, I could usually push the return key three or four times before my first client would start, so I wouldn't have to screw around alt-tabbing clients and such. Now, it seems I'm going to be forced to alt-tab back, /click/ log out, log in again, press play, alt-tab, etc. Ugh. So many more actions for a similar result.
So, two questions:
Is this it for the new launcher? Is there going to be no work to make it easier for those of us with multiple accounts (i.e. a good chunk of people who play this game)?
Is this mandatory or will the old launcher continue to work after this is deployed to TQ? |

I've been using it for a day or so and from what I can tell the One Log in thing doesn't work. Besides that the UI is kinda bugged. The ratio for the bottom and top bar are different then the middles which contains the news and One Log in thing (What the hell do I call this thing.) This makes the top and bottom bars extend farther then the middle section and nearly cuts off the Eve Retribution logo. You can't even see the "Online" words under the Eve.

The new version (2.1.531588-beta.3.win32) worked on my setup - Linux kernel 3.88 (32bit), wine 1.5.29 with a couple minor hiccups: Installer worked without any exceptions this time, but brought up an unresponsive launcher. Restarting launcher gave the same error -7 url not found for the login, as I got with the earlier version, but at the same time the patcher proceeded normally, though I thought the patching part was rather slow. considering the install is on an SSD, and the recent tranquility patch though somewhat larger (700 meg vs 500) went much quicker. Download speed was perfectly fine though. Restarting again after patching I was able to log into SISI successfully, as the login appeared correctly. I used the following syntax:
wine /home/luser/.wine/drive_c/EVEtest/eve.exe --args "/server:87.237.38.50" "/log:debug"
It still seems a bit clunky compared to the normal launcher, but it does function. |

If any browser allows us to save usernames / passwords information, why can't the launcher or Eve Client do the same? Test 1, 2, 3... |

It shows me that the server is Singularity and 115 Players are online at the bottom. But there is no way to connect. I get the same error again and again.
I had the same problem. i resolved it by making a new shortcut on my desktop, adding /server:87.237.38.50 in the shortcut/target area.
C:\Program Files (x86)\SISI\EVE\launcher this is my new launcher path
it works good but i think the overall idea is not good for anyone who has more than 1 account. I d have to tab log out, enter the username and password for each of my accounts, which is alot more work than we have now.
Atm i just start the launcher and click play for how many clients i want to bring up. Enter the information needed and voila.
A suggestion: Add a button more if we want to launch the client only without being immediately logged. It is very hand for multiaccounts. LF CSM8 candidate. Are you what lowsec needs? --->-átinyurl.com/afaawrb

We are aware of the current inconvenience with the UI for multiple clients. The flow is currently being revisited by our friends in Team Roundhouse Kick. Among other things the launcher should be remembering your usernames. However, for obvious reasons we are not considering to add the option of saving your username/password combination. I tried out the launcher and it installed fine on Win8. However clicking on the newly created shortcut to the launcher yields this screen. clicky One may interact with the links it displays, but not with the window controls. It's semi-crashed and needs to be killed in task manager.
Running eve.exe with /server: argument gives the proper launcher, albeit with small layout problems. clicky
Putting the focus on the "Play" button after login would be neat.

I have just installed the new launcher. However, I didn't get a shortcut on my desktop. After a bit of playing, I can now run Sisi without any problems. No idea why I had to try half a dozen times. Hopefully you'll get this working first time before it goes live. Anyway, here's some info...
When running the eve.exe with the /server setting for Sisi, I got these logs from F:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\Sisi\launcher\appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.531588-beta.3.win32.
I tried running the launcher\launcher.exe without any parameters and got this as well:
Nam Dnilb wrote:I tried out the launcher and it installed fine on Win8. However clicking on the newly created shortcut to the launcher yields this screen. clicky One may interact with the links it displays, but not with the window controls. It's semi-crashed and needs to be killed in task manager. I've created a shortcut to launcher\launcher.exe with the server param and the first couple of times I got "Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong" with both the Singularity and 87.237.38.50 switches but now it's working with the 87.237.38.50 switch. I've since added the /log:debug param so you'll get more info next time.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and the path to my Sisi install is F:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\Sisi.
Why do we have to Login and Play? Can't we just Play? I'm not sure why I need to click a button twice once I've added my login details.
Once running Eve, the Play button on the launcher will disconnect your original session and open a new window for a new session. I think this could be handled better by bringing the original session to the fore. If you want to end a session, you shouldn't be using the Play button on the launcher. |

Installed the launcher last weekend. I had the /server: paramerter issue.
After the launcher update on wednesday, my internet security blocked the launcher. I closed it and can't restart the launcher. Must restart the system.
After the restart the client updated without any problems. A 'errors occuerd' pop up opened after closeing the updated version of the launcher and starting the client:
See the logfile '...launcher.exe.log' for details
Sometimes the launcher didn't validating the client. Sometimes starting the launcher disabled my mouse settings.

The launcher seems to be working correctly for me, but I would like to point out a minor display issue with the new process.
As of writing this this character has not been activated on Singularity so this has allowed me to see that the error messages returned for attempting to log in are not helpful if you do not have a 'valid' account.
When using the current launcher the client returns a message stating that the account does not have a current subscription (or something to that effect).
When using the new launcher/client the error message is instead something about not being able to connect to the server. (Although I will have to wait for account activation to ensure it's not something else on my end).
Resolving this issue will make it easier to resolve issues with trying to sign in. |

It seems to work now for some reason. Reinstalled the test client and used the IP andress to singularity in the shortcut instead of the server name, that did the trick.
What happened was that the launcher looked like the old one and kept trying to connect to TQ, listing online players and so on, except no play button. When i tried to close it it froze and i had to terminate the process. ______

I cannot see anything wrong from the logs, except for one thing: In your previous post you are also specifying the /log:debug argument and the log files are not generating debug level information. That leads me to believe there might be an issue with how you are passing the parameters on to the application using Wine. :-) Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

We've just pushed out another update for the launcher addressing some smaller issues:
- Fixed an issue where self-updating would break the UI if it could not connect to the self-update path
- Fixed an issue with Unicode that would cause the UI to break in languages other than English
We could not reproduce the /server:Singularity command line argument issue in-house, and from reviewing the code it looks like it should work just fine. If someone still has trouble connecting with that argument, please provide launcher and eve logs. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

(The version of launcher after installing looks like to be EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.533100-beta.3.win32)
The installation went well, launcher started (old style, TQ info about ppl online, no play button). After closing I've got error message with a link to log file:
http://pastebin.com/YTVhyUzY
When I tried to run EVE first time after install with command:
wine explorer /desktop=eve,1920x1080 "D:\\EVE\\eve.exe" --args "/server:Singularity" "/log:debug"
Everything looked well. When I started it second time, the left down images were missing. When I tried it third time but with command:
wine explorer /desktop=eve,1920x1080 "D:\\EVE\\launcher\\launcher.exe" --args "/server:Singularity" "/log:debug"
I've got the same -7 url not found for the login and the left down images were missing too. And when I tried the first command again, same -7 error and no images.

debug.log (Its from the /EVE/ directory not the /EVE/launcher/ dir. In the launcher dir has no debug. log file for me.) http://pastebin.com/VZdKqqF4
The debug log has some errors that might explain missing images and the -7 error. I think the error messages
[0510/210328:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1660)] Messed up entry found. [0510/210328:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1946)] Destroying invalid entry.

Your launcher should update itself soon with a fix for this issue. Annoyingly this update will once more lock up the launcher after it was applied (because it was still the broken code running), but future updates should then work without a problem. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

Interesting. I have no clue why there are messed up entries. It might also indicate that our launcher has an issue with SSL certificates under Wine. Can you visit secure websites using Chrome under Wine? IMHO - linux testing
The login page not load correctly because it want data with server status and number of clients on server.
"Play" button not enables because - INFO - Sending the following JavaScript code to the browser: setPlayButtonEnabled({"bool": Boolean(true), "label": "Client is ready"}); - sends to login page before it load into launcher
I think that troubles in a eve launcher browser because in ingame browser no troubles http://clip2net.com/s/536WSm
Verify Client button in eve Launcher setting - not work - return error in launcher.exe.log

I'm so glad I downloaded this. It overwrote my regular launcher and now no launcher works to launch EVE. If I do launch any launcher, it doesn't have a loading bar or PLAY button, and freezes the computer and doesn't allow me to click close. I have to force a shutdown in task manager.
My EVE game is now unplayable, and I have to re-download 10GB worth of files to install it.

And when i logging in the Play button is grey and seems like inactive, anyway, nothing happens by clicking on it. Maybe it because my account is inactive on Singularity..

EDIT: and now it works just fine. Weird.
Weird indeed. I can confirm everything you said tho, the new Launcher is acting up somewhat.
I am using wine 1.5.30 with a new prefix, no additional packages were installed, no overrides, no shenanigans. Launcher Version as of the writing of this post is V.2.1.533100-beta.
After the first installation, the launcher came up automatically without the /server:singularity parameter, thus showing the current tranquility launcher website. I then closed it and started it again with the correct parameters. I then either got this funky Error -7 instead of the login form, missing images in the bottom left corner, the launcher is not verifying the game (rare) or a seemingly random combination of those things.
However, after a dozen or so tries it finally worked and I could launch the game, the client came up just fine and without any errors on the console. I had to accept the EULA again and got the following error, despite Singularity being shown as "OK" with over 200 players online:
"Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong."
As far as the launcher itself goes: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Here's a debug.log for you:
Quote:[0512/124337:ERROR:network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin failed with: 8 [0512/124409:INFO:CONSOLE(0)] "The page at about:blank displayed insecure content from cef-error:. ," source: (1) [0512/124409:INFO:CONSOLE(0)] "Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL cef-error: from frame with URL https://client.testeveonline.com/launcherv3/en?steam_token=&server=tranquility. Domains, protocols and ports must match. ," source: (1)
Note, that the second and third log entries (cef-error) do NOT occur when the login form works for once.

I had the same problem yesterday. It was gone when I changed /server:Singularity to /server:87.237.38.50.
If I may ask the devs. Whats the difference between the ingame browser and the one from launcher? Because I tried the ingame one for secure sides and it works well. The ingame browser uses a different underlying architecture so that it won't crash the EVE client if the browser engine crashes. It might also be worth noting that the launcher runs natively on Mac OS, while the ingame browser does not. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

A few Wine releases ago the problem silently went away for Eve, but the related Wine bug hasn't been closed because apparently the issue still exists elsewhere. It might be worth it for someone with this issue to try applying the old Wine patch we used to need and try with that. If I run into this issue when I test, I'll give that a shot. |

So now that I became less bad and installed the correct launcher, I can say I like it.
I did have an issue where it froze on my initial use, but shutting it down via task manager and then starting it again worked. Was slow to verify things, but as with the current launcher I am used to the slowness.
However is the verification process when it starts up meant to wipe my sisi settings? Not that it was hard to correct, as I am used to redoing all my settings on sisi ;) Mangala Undocked |

If you used to connect to Sisi using /server:Singularity but now used the version with the IP then the settings will have been reset because the settings folder is constructed using that argument, and thus you will probably now have two of those folders. Something for our Wine users we've discovered during our internal Mac debugging: There seems to be an issue with the certificates file we are shipping with the new launcher which only showed on Mac but not on native Windows.
It might be worthwhile trying to replace the certificate file found in the (launcher path)/appdata/EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.(version)-beta.3.win32 folder with a more recent one, for example with the one located at http://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem - hope this helps. :-)

The new launcher seems to work pretty well for me in Windows 7 (64).
As a test, I let the launcher patch my client up from a fresh Tranq client copy.
Will likely give it a test in a few days from Linux and see how that goes.
My only gripe so far: It would be nice if the population count was still present on the patcher after logging in. |

Yeah, It looks like the most recent patch crippled the UI, I unfortunately already wiped my client & launcher, but the jist of it is:
1) I run the Launcher. (Using the singularity IP address instead of the name) 2) Launcher boots up proceeds to patch 3) Launcher proceeds to vanish and re-appear and the entire news section on the right plane is blank. 4) I proceed to attempt a log-in, after entering my Username and PW the left plane goes blank only leaving the "Server: Singularity Join other pilots" at the top of that plane.
This leaves me with no method to login at all. |

Try deleting the launcher's cache folder. Something odd seems to be going on with the caching behaviour in the integrated browser engine and a recent launcher website update broke that. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances |

It does not seem like that fixes it, the login form still does the -7 error thing most of the time and the sliding ads (Buddy program, Fanfest stream) are not loading correctly. I do have two new entries in the debug.log though, so I might be doing it wrong:
debug.log wrote:[0514/221226:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1660)] Messed up entry found. [0514/221226:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1946)] Destroying invalid entry.
I can also confirm pretty high CPU usage. The launcher alone uses 100% of one of my six cores while doing nothing at all.
Fake edit: Deleting the client settings seemingly got rid of the "invalid entries", login form problem still persists tho. Complete debug log still looks like this:

Its nVidia's way for dual-graphics cards (as you have it in nearly every mobile device). You run on the Intel (CPU/GPU-Combo)-Card by default. Optirun just does some VRAM/Kernel-Voodoo to make processes (and their subprocesses) use the dedicated graphics card. From a program point-of-view there is only 1 Card visible in any case (either the GPU-part of my i7 or the dedicated GeForce GTX660M - not both!).
This was pretty much battletested over the recent past years and has only a few flaws.
--
Using the CPU for rendering has the flaws above (no login due to ssl-stuff)
Using the GPU (via bublebee) for rendering yields the crash - but thats just the launcher, not eve. (I never use the launcher on TQ - instead i just boot up the EXEFile.exe and start the launcher in patchmode (with overrides etc.) for patching and switching to the direct-launch afterwards)
I could start a seperate X-Server with just the nVidia-GPU (CPU-graphics disabled) to see if the problems persist without bublebee (which i expect to happen). I suppose wx probes the hardware (in /proc/ or via lspci on linux) and tries to select the first graphics-device (happen to be the CPU) which is unavailable due to bumblebee. As im programming python myself i will test it in a small program (both native and via wrapped .exe in wine) when i find the time.
Nevertheless - it should work on the CPU (without optirun), which it perfectly does (besides the ssl-error) |

Right, yes it should indeed run on the CPU.
The SSL error is a different thing though that seems to be limited to Wine. Sadly that issue is currently not of any priority to us as Linux is not officially supported and it does neither happen on native Windows nor on Mac OS. As stated before, error -7 is a timeout error which is exactly what you are seeing in these wireshark traces. :-) This seems to happen with a lot of SSL connections under Wine. Make sure that you are starting the client with /server:87.237.38.50 (or /server:Singularity). It seems like this is required for the latest version (probably a minor bug with the default redirect to Singularity). Quality of life: - As a multiboxer, the ability to press "Play" multiple times and enter my information in the client was fine. Pressing switch account and entering it then pressing "Log In" then "Play" for each client just adds more annoyance. This also does not include any type of disconnect where you can press restart and get the screen back quickly.
-The In-game UI no longer has "log off" button, only "log off safely" and "quit game" when using "log off safely" and getting the option to either restart of quit, the restart button does not do anything.
-The "disable launcher unless a patch is ready" option is also gone, which to me suggests the launcher must always be running. Attempting to use the exefile in /bin/ results in a command prompt that accompanies the client. Closing the command prompt closes the client as well. |

There is not supposed to be a play button in the lower right in the new launcher. The new launcher has a login form in the top left and it will change to a play button once you log in. I guess that might be a problem for Multiboxing, true. |

If it's the very first time you are starting it up, then it may take a minute or two though that obviously depends a bit on what else the computer is doing at the time. If it constantly takes longer than that then it is weird. Do you happen to have a lot of .patch files in your EVE installation folder by any chance? For the sake of clarity, in which expansion do you intend to get rid of login screens entirely? This is a relatively big change to make.
I do not agree -at all- with this change of making the launcher forced, I would agree however with making the launcher optional. The more choice the better.
It's been going on for 10 years and theres no reason to get rid of it. It's tradition that each expansion has it's own login theme to help form it's identity. |

Hard to test something that barely has minimal functionality.
You should add TQ to that list as well, afterall, in the past year it has had alot of 'beta' level patches (and some pre-beta) released to it to do all the troubleshooting/testing for them...
I think the problem is, you assume he wants "well tested"...we do not, we just want more than a, "hey here is a new shiney...lets put it on the server!!!" before ANY testing is done at all.....new undock button crashing game for instance...how did they not catch that if they followed proper development processes.
It should be a simple thing for CCP to internally test the code after they create it to make sure it even functions. This is NOT the first time this has happened. http://blog.beyondreality.se/shift-click-does-nothing -á-á < Unified Inventory is NOT ready... |

Just wanted to mention I discovered that the new launcher can currently be bypassed on sisi with a custom shortcut that restored the "preferred" splash screen login from the fullscreen eve client everyone has been accustomed to for eons.
making a custom shortcut with this as the shortcut target accomplishes this.
Quote:D:\EVETEST\bin\ExeFile.exe /server:87.237.38.50
One of the more surprising things is that this bypasses the eve.exe bootstrapper and opens a cmd.exe window before the eve client starts that persists after login that shows how the eve client's programmed modules load. This also shows some interesting "queue timers" with names of several features of eve such as facwar, sov and alliance.
I don't know if this was always possible but it's something the dev's might want to investigate.
I'm an inquisitive network systems engineer so I found this more or less purely by testing.
Also i really miss the login splash screen. I truly hope you guys are not planning to abandon the tradition of making incredible amimated login splash screens like from the current Retribution login. |

Could be worth mentioning that on any modern version of windows from vista to windows 8 the root of the OS install drive and the program files directories are write restricted unless a UAC privilege escalation succeeds. If you had any issues patching that could be the primary reason why.
I don't have my eve clients installed on my windows OS drive purely for this reason. The only folder locations that are an exception to this default privilege enforcement are user account home directories such as C:\users\username and C:\users\public or any secondary non OS hard drives.
Easy solution is just moving the install files for your eve client to a secondary hard drive or either of the locations i mentioned above.
If you don't have a second hard drive C:\users\public\games or C:\users\username\games works very well. |

1. default the curser to the password box like on the current client. that way I can open the launcher and just type my password
2. once ive typed my password and I hit enter, I want enter to just be exactly that. I don't want it to bring up a play button that I cant just hit enter to activate, I want it to take me to the selector screen.
this will mimic the exact functionality of the current client when the launcher is hidden. and remove the pointless extra steps you seam to be adding to my already long log in sessions. OMG when can i get a pic here

After getting afforementioned error message, the client (not the launcher, despite exactly that being it's job) told me that there is a new patch and offered to install it. The client closed itself and called the patcher, which downloaded some stuff and then errored out as well, proposing I should try the repair tool. So I did, and now when I start eve, I get told, that the "content server" is not available but I may start eve anyway. (gee, thanks)
Eve works now, but the launcher doesn't even pop up. So, almost working as intended, I guess? |

Fake edit:
The "launcher" doesn't download todays patch and the "play" button stays greyed out. It throws an error instead. I can still start Eve via ExeFile.exe, but I cannot connect. (wrong protocol)

Okay, long-time Mac user, first-time Win8 Singularity installer here!
I followed the copy-and-paste-and-rename instructions for the Singularity client; double-clicked the shortcut, and for one brief shining moment saw the SiSi launcher -- only to have it then be replaced by a another launcher-esque window saying there had been an error.
I guess there's a new launcher that I need to use for SiSi, yes? And is that the one that is linked in the first post of this thread? Is there anything else I should know -- gotchas, weirdnesses, etc? |

Since there were no technical concerns left with the Windows version of the new launcher, then yes, we did roll it out. That at the same time an external problem with our web servers pops up is a really bad coincidence, but that could have happened everywhere.
We've noted the concerns that people have about how it changes the way one has to do multi-boxing stuff and we are working on improvements on this. With that regard, though, let it be said that with all the various ways in which people are multi-boxing then it's near impossible to not annoy some parts of our userbase which do this. We do not really like that either and are sorry about this, but it's a situation that we have kind of forced on ourselves by never having done proper support for multi-boxing, and adding proper support now is going to cause some pain to you and us. you say there is no technical issues. I think you will find a 17 page blog response page that says other wise.
your forcing something that most people don't want and or don't like on them and have buried you head into the sand regarding there replies you say you havnt supported multi boxers. well the blog replies from ccp devs back in march 2012 indicated that there were considerations being place into the launcher to take into account multi boxers. you just removed all of them.
I stand by my comments, this new improved launcher is in fact far form improved, it currently is many steps back in functionality and infact shouldnt have been released in this broken (see blog replies) state. OMG when can i get a pic here

after rereading this a few times it dawned on me. why the hell are you not asking us multi boxers how we run our set ups, what works best for us and then working on a solution rather than thrusting crap on us that wont work and will in fact just alienate us?
we documented a lot of these things when the launcher thing was rolled out back last march, you must have (im really hoping you didn't fail so badly as to not have) checked there to see what we were using and how, especially as you didn't ask us directly when it was time for you to butcher it for this roll out OMG when can i get a pic here

Here's some feedback - absolutely fcuking horrendous!
I multibox and this new launcher is about to make my life a *lot* more painful.
What exactly is it giving us, the paying customers, over the current method of logging in?
We need to be able to launch multiple copies of Eve, with the account name remembered, and log them in easily - not this backward step of logging into a launcher and firing up a single copy, then backing out and doing it again!
Did anyone on your team sit down and try using the new system with multiple accounts??!? |

I call BS on the "web servers" was the cause of the issue. Since all of us where clearly able to connect to your forums, and dodge the launcher and connect to Eve, or in some cases, never lose connection to Eve because we were logged in since DT.
The same reasoning that caused you to "honestly think we were ready" with the Inventory fail that was almost a year ago is what got you into this. I don't really remember any glowing feedback about this from SiSi (mostly given the fact it did not function for most ppl), let alone all the people asking you to please reconsider this "upgrade" as it only made everything take longer and only added steps with regards to the client. So why did we need this again?
I think the launcher problems perpetuated your poor web server reliability b/c all of a sudden, THOUSANDS of people were trying to update to a botched piece of code that belongs in the toilet.
Is it appropriate to say, "i told you so" yet? http://blog.beyondreality.se/shift-click-does-nothing -á-á < Unified Inventory is NOT ready... |

This launcher is an absolute ******* travesty. As a multiboxer who only plays eve because of the former friendliness to multiboxing, I am razor thin close to just cancelling all 12 accounts and telling CCP to go **** themselves with pay I no longer give them w my wallet.
This was completely ill thought, planned, and executed and whomever is responsible should have a serious reprimand incoming to them. I am absolutely dumbfounded that this launcher was considered acceptable.

If checked, the launcher will start the client as soon as the user is logged in and the client is ready, so no additional click is required on your part. If you don't want this to happen, just uncheck it, the launcher will remember your setting either way. This feature was tested internally and now we would like your feedback before pushing it to TQ, please use this thread here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=230690Thanks!
Does it fix this problem:
Quote:So....the new launcher.
I always mult-box and do not particularly want to have muliple instances of the launcer open just sitting there after I log on. So, I select the "close launcher after log on" option, just like I did with the old launcher....
BUT....when I want to swap characters on the same account, there is no longer a logoff button, only a quit game button. So now I have to re-launch the new crappy launcher, instead of just of the client automatically going back to the logon screen.
If not, and I suspect that it doesnt, keep at it and get it sorted asap, as this is a load of crap. |

We do not really like that either and are sorry about this, but it's a situation that we have kind of forced on ourselves by never having done proper support for multi-boxing, and adding proper support now is going to cause some pain to you and us.
You DO know that there is a test server available for ummmm testing ? Yes ?

I've said it before on the other threadnaught and I'lll say it again here. Just suspend all meetings, and get the right people sat at their stations to roll this mess back first. Then resume the meets and figure out what to do next and release it again only after you have all these issues figured out. As it stands now, all those meetings look like the debate on the gender of angels that took place in Constantinople while the city was being attacked back in 1453. True story!
There's a fundamental problem that isn't the launcher on itself but instead the issue is with the epiphany that CCP believes to have had with the SSO.
The SSO would work wonderfully both with the client and in all websites using our eve account credentials if we were limited to a single account per person as well. This limitation could be from simply banning multi accounting (I know, right?) or creating a system in which you can get all your toons into the same account (and with the new spend plex, train an alt simultaneously, there's no reason not to get this done).
SSO vs. multi accounting players just doesn't work and CCP would have been better off sorting the multiaccounting thing before moving into the SSO. |

It's far too late to ban multiboxing, they would have had to do that from day one. Many EVE Players have multiple accounts thus generating more income for CCP. Baning multiboxing would mean less money. Not to mention all of the "Power of 2" deals that CCP has advertised over the last few years....
Here's my solution to the new launcher: Scrap the SSO in the launcher. Instead, imbed an HTML5 page (the SSO) directly into the client itself where the current login screen is located. There's still a launcher for ease of patching, there's still SSO, and no one has to wait on the launcher to finish launching before switching accounts in the launcher. CCP RedDawn: Ugly people are just playing life on HARD mode. Personally, I'm playing on an INFERNO difficulty...

Well, you wanted my feedback, here it is.
I have to congratulate CCP for breaking something that didn't need fixing. I did at least, manage to get my old settings restored by starting the launcher a 2nd time. So that at least is not a problem.
The problem I have with the launcher is this. This is not my only account. (Big surprise, right?). With the old launcher, I'd click to start the client, and log on from that. I could do this 3-4 more times if I wanted to, with little problem.
With the new launcher, I now have to log out, and log back on as a different user, each time. From my point of view, this has added an additional step that isn't really necessary. And to be honest, I see no great advantage to the new launcher. In fact, I see no reason to use it at all.
So, either give us back the old one, or at least just take this current piece of garbage away, so it doesn't clutter up our screens.
Thank you.
P.S. ROLL BACK the LAUNCHER!!!
Oh, and don't EVEN think about making my settings portable to other computers via some cloud bull crap. |

As it currently stands, it DOES NOT remember anything other than the first account typed in. Period.
Also, if you type another account name in, then hit "tab" to put password in, it resets the account name field back to the first one ever entered. You have to mouse click 'password' after typing in any new accounts.
Total crap. Roll this back off TQ until its atleast fully functional. It should never have been rolled out to begin with. http://blog.beyondreality.se/shift-click-does-nothing -á-á < Unified Inventory is NOT ready... |

Alright. Going through exefile.exe with /server:87.237.38.50 just leads me through a whole lot of "cannot open launcher.exe for patching" after your latest patch about 24h ago (SiSi was fine just before), so I'm going to assume that your patch REQUIRES the new launcher. Repair tool, deleting and re-installing a TQ copy to use for SiSi, nothing worked.
Your new beta launcher is downloading the 540656-539491 patch as we speak, hopefully that'll work. That still means we had to use your crap launcher to get into the system, however. Again, choice is going out the window (whether intentional or not) and we're apparently getting burdened with a launcher that does its best to cripple multiboxers (proper multiboxer support, that's hilarious). |

CCP Aporia - where have you gone. I was looking forward to hearing your replies to the issues ive had regarding this launcher and how the by pass works so much better than it.
why does it not have focus on the password box?
why does it still not remember account names after its patched?
why does the log off or restart button not close the client and reopen the launcher so I can log alts in WITHOUT leaving 8 launchers running on my desk top while im playing?
why the hell is it validating the client every time its opened?
why are you trying your hardest to remove basic multibox support?
do you know that using the eve.exe from the bin folder allows you to fix all of the above issues?
it retains password focus, it has working log off and restart buttons which don't require me to leave 8 launchers running on my pc. it only cares if the client is up to date and dose not keep checking and lastly and most importantly it provides the multibox support that the launcher does not.
fancy answering any of my questions CCP Aporia ? OMG when can i get a pic here

If the current state of launcher/login becomes mandatory with the June patch, I will be dropping Eve, as the login process is way too annoying to log 10+ accounts in.

I have been using the Singularity server launcher for several days without issue. Today, I booted up the Singularity launcher and it went through an update. I then logged in on the the Singularity server launcher which then showed "incompatible version" on the Eve splash screen.
I shut down the launcher and went shopping.
Later on I hit up the same Eve Icon and booted up what I thought would be Singularity launcher. Singularity launcher has now become the Tranquility server launcher. Hitting any of the (what was singularity) exe icons (desktop/folder) now starts the Tranquility launcher. Tranquility and Singularity folders are separate on my c drive. I'm thinking the update, whatever it was, updated my singularity from a Tranquility source.
Hope the above made sense.

Same issue here, with the launcher seemingly stuck at "DOWNLOADING LAUNCHER UPDATE".

I had the same problem with my singularity launcher. It would not update to the latest patch.
So I downloaded and installed the latest launcher. After installation it ran itself and updated my client to tranquility. Something to note was pictures were not loading and buttons were hidden. very glitchy.
So i deleted the entire folder and made a fresh copy. Installed the launcher again and as soon as it ran itself again i closed it as I noticed it was trying to patch to tranquility again.
So I ran my singularity shortcut and worked. Downloaded a patch file of about 800mbs that took a while to apply i might add, about 25mins.
All good now. Connected to server just to make sure it worked b4 heading to bed. :D |

just my two isk here,
I cannot be arsed with handling these sisi things, ive tried several times in the past. And really liked it.
But even though some of the discriptions worked (half) when installing then i always had issues with my main client. Doesnt matter to say i messed up myself. But still wonder if CCP can't just release a one-in-all like TQ but for SiSi too Jitters 4-4: Eve Online Comic. |

I have bad habit of preemptively updating my TQ client with each update, and update error that happened not very critical but just worth mentioning.
So I started update with low disk space (stupid me ) but space enough to store premade zipped patch. After successful download, launcher failed unzipping and next time (with more drive space) started downloading patch again from scratch. Relevant paste: http://pastebin.com/PnhjMkJ2
So wouldn't be better to check if there enough space, check if premade patch zip was already present in specific location, then proceed with unpacking or checksum and download missing parts?
And secondly, maybe there could be option to store those patches in default %TEMP% directory? While not completely necessary, there was some requests for this from players with SSD drives. -¥ |

How about enabling intergation with something like http://keepass.info/ the same way it integrates with browsers? Maybe, we'll discuss it with our security team. If they give their OK and it's possible from a technological point then it might end up as something we want to do, but no promises. :) I use keepass since years now with both the eve-client and the web pages (and tons of other games/pages). Sadly, the password field in the new launcher looses focus when you try to use the autotype feature from keepass.
A simple way to get around this problem is to use {tab}{password} with a optional {enter} as the autotype sequence, since tab will focus the password field. |

This did not work for me. Login does not work with more than one account this way for me.
Instead I use the following keystroke sequence: {RIGHT}{RIGHT}{RIGHT}+{TAB}{USERNAME}{TAB}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}
This works for all my accounts. |

The new launcher doesn't have anywhere for me to actually put any login details.
If I try going straight to the exe it doesn't connect and says "Please use Singularity", and tries to connect to 87.237.38.69.
This shows a status of unknown and won't connect. |

I downloaded the new launcher to install Sisi for today's mass test.
Now I my other install on TQ is losing settings. I've redone my overviews and chat windows twice now.
This is BS - why the hell would a separate install for Sisi affect my TQ install?
How do I get my settings back?
Last damn time I show up for a mass test.

F Me... the original install directory is empty somehow.
And my old startup bookmark now points into the Sisi2 directory I made.
Nice job installer team.

Check the shortcuts you used to start the application. When you copy shortcuts in Windows they keep the original directories, so if you copy EVE you can often find the shortcuts actually point back to the original directories. Product Owner, EVE Launcher | Team Special Circumstances |

1) I found no .patches or .download files to delete 2) Everytime that I tried to alter the path of the Eve app to "C:\evetest\eve.exe" /server:Singularity Window 7 would give me an error that that function is not allowed. I am an admin on the system so that isn't the issue. |

Sisi used to work for me, however now it doesnt seem to.
Copied TQ to new folder, created the shortcut with sisi parameter, launcher updates and does its thing. I am left with broken launcher with no Username or Password fields, instead if I "paint" over the area with my mouse, I get the following text visible.

Spent all night acquiring the various Mac patches to test on Singularity, but it fails to get past the launcher. Responds with "Launching" (turns grey), but never starts the client. Eventually it defaults back to "Play" (in black). I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week. |
