I know this was posted ages ago, but I just noticed this post. Did anyone else get a giggle out of the idea of a male player having cleavage??
I live in one of the fattest countries on earth. Male cleavage unfortunately exists.
As far as the ingame breast size slider goes, its just for people to compensate for not being able to find the Jin-Mei bloodline button.

The reason i posted it's more about the kind of toys kids from different genders plays with, in regards to the OP, since normally males would care way less about playing with unrealistic "toys" (not like this is bad) than females, than getting into something more on the ground, practical and more in touch with reality (and just in case my english is striking me back, i DON'T mean barbies, i mean criticizing the barbie). There are excepctions of course.
I wasn't trying to convey what you think i did, but thank you for pointing it out. |

Your over analyzing the purpose He-man serves in that picture, because the message is about imagery, not the difference in what He-man's activities are compared to that of Barbie. Its also about what males are excpected to conform to when they grow up, just as girls are expected too with Barbie. The difference is, only Barbie is the one getting called out for it while He-man is not.
I'm not going to say that the use of that imagery is wrong, or that its right either. Only that the context of that particular photo's message is showing how completely one sided the attention that type of imagery is getting, even though its being used on both genders. |

Honestly the boobs in this game don't quite compare to the boobs in most games. I don't honestly remember where on the slider I was but I don't remember them being outlandish.
Despite the fact that I am a female who also finds other females attractive I personally don't understand the draw to over sized breasts. Proportion is far more important than size to be perfectly honest. Most games do not have a bust size or crotch size bar for a good reason though. Wasn't there a Wildstar outrage over boobs not too long ago? As a post-feminist I honestly don't care if women are portrayed with large breasts as long as there's an equal portrayal of small breasts.
Of course I say all this will the full intention of getting implants myself as soon as I have the capital to do so. Ask anyone that doesn't have D-cups if they would rather have small boobs or big boobs and they'll opt to go up. For the most part. According to my morning talk show radio station.
Wait why are we even talking about this? My spaceship doesn't have boobs on it. |

Lord. cba to read 27 pages of this. But I'll comment on it.
I have 4 characters. Every single one of them has a background story, or at least some sort of descriptive addendum I could put in his or her bio, even if I choose to or not. Their appearances fit the character.
This dude was supposed to look something like Michael Ironside.
Got a random minmatar alt that was supposed to look like Wesley Snipes.
Got a market/RP Amarr holder alt that is a closet supporter of Uncle Sansha.
Got a indy alt that looks like some poor street waif that somehow managed to claw her way out of the gutters and make something of herself. I specifically did not give her big breasts. She is thin. But not because she is super-model Barbie. She is thin on account of her background.
I don't RP. But I find it helps to have a story or some background when deciding how a character will look.

I see some good-looking female avatars in this game, where the picture seems to be of someone with personality. The female players often appear to put some work into giving their characters life.
But the default look of a female character in this game tends to be Barbie, while the males seem to achieve a sense of character more easily. I don't really think that playing Barbie in space was the dream for most of you guys out there. I blame a poor quality character creation process that CCP ought to take an artistic look at.

Most seem to be made by this method. Random, random, max breast, thruster pose, zoom out, take picture.

I like any kind of boob size. My girlfriend has small boobs and... she's sexy as hell, not only according to me !
I find that many eve players have a deficient sense of imagination and bad taste. A super skinny female with enormous boobs means disproportion and is not what I call: beautiful. Don't take me wrong, big boobs can also be attractive of course... like medium pear-like boobs can be so yummy... or small-but-big-nipples boobs, etc.
What the OP is pointing out is the common bad taste among male players. Why do you almost all love stupid looking women with a disproportional body? Might be because of the porno industry... might be because of the mainstream medias... might be... might be... many other reasons, but still something can explain it.
Look at me and tell me you don't see a REAL woman. One attractive, intelligent and sexy woman ! Not a stupid looking doll... who rhymes with weakness! -½ I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. You can create a good looking female character with the creator if you invest a little bit time and not only pushing randomize or take the first appeareance the creator gives you. But many player are more interested in the actual game than in their character. It is too bad. I would also like to see more varieties of characters. Most of them look very similar.
But your are right with the Barbie-think. Most clothes in the game seem not really sci-fi. I wonder whether any female spaceship pilot ever would wear a dress or high heels. I wrote a thread some time ago that more cyber-punk would fit more to the game than high-heels, dresses and lip-gloss. |

Private rights are not above human rights. That is why they were created. And one human right is free speech (Declaration of human rights, article 19). And it is up to CCP and their employees what their policy is in such things. |

I think your opinion has a valid foundation for drawing the given conclusions. However, I think you may be generalizing the community a little bit. There's no avoidance that all EVE characters, both male and female, have strong attributes that vary on what the player puts emphasis upon.
All men are muscular, waxed, hairless and handsome. Isn't that perhaps the same as someone having D-sized 'attributes' on a female character, isn't this a strong sign of prejudice towards the audience that has a character focusing on creating female characters with strong 'attributes' but in the same time not commenting on the same thing from the other perspective?
I do not think it's acceptable to provide only a one-sided view on the argument in this subject. |
