How cool would it be if you took your ship to amarr, jita And dock up walk out of your ship and see tons of ship In the dock bay of other characters ship and walking in The space station while you can greet other characters. Try to picture it just like you see your character walking In the hanger but in a huge stations where you see shops and other Players walking around. Like a huge mall where you can go shopping For clothes ship modifications, luxury ships for style or even walk In to meet your friends in a bar station and have a drink. That to me would be phenomenal game experience in eve and attract New players because of the social out come of it.
I know that will never happen but I think if it were to happen More ppl would get highly addicted to eve online.

It doesnt get much more social in this game than hanging out with a group of people you know for ages. The more dangerous the place, the better. Wankroom Multiplayer wouldnt cater to that.

Lol it's great isn't it!!!
Ppl already buy clothes for thier character, so why not walk Around and visit different stores in game to buy clothes. Just like grand theft auto, world of war craft, ABP if that game is still around lol. it's not just clothes it can be other things too that can be added. Like a fight club where ppl can bet on pvp fitghs (1v1-2v2-4v4). Even have a eve casino. I think when you add all those features it Will invite more new players. I personally think if CCP came up With a good mechanism eve would be huge and it would blossom :-D |

Also, why would anyone need to get out of their pod? You have implants directly in your brain, so you can basically experience any feeling or emotion that you want via direct brain stimulation or have synthetic hormones released into your body via the life support system. VR + brain implants + IVs means never having to interact in the flesh with another human being ever again!

This is the main reason why I'm hoping Star Citizen does well.
Not because I want to play it, but because "perhaps" it will finally get the people who insist that somehow Avatar based game play detracts from a SciFi game about space ships to realize how idiotic view point is. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Yes, space ships are one of our primary tools for interacting with each other and the universe, but hardly the only one. There are distinct advantages for having more. I'm just saying we spend most of the time in spaceships (capsuleers and the players) and yet we can't even give our ships a simple paint job or put decals on them. I care more about what my ship looks like than what my guy looks like since I will be staring at my ship for 99% of the game.
To me, that is more important than walking around in stations with more character customization and emotes I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have more WiS stuff, I'm just saying it's not as important as some other stuff I would like to see. |

Both of which are impersonal. Talking to someone face to face seems better to me. Plus huddling around a table while a guy tells a story (that most likely he made up or has exaggerated) has more atmosphere.
And it would allow more possibilities of initiating small talk and meeting new people. I mean, sure you can do that in local chat but it's hard to do it unless you're in a system with lots of people like Jita but those places have tons of spammers filling up the chat so I mostly ignore local there. |

So, go to a real bar and do that, or, go play second life if you have the overpowering need to get your "virtual" freakishness and role-playing groove on.
There's nothing "personal" about interaction when you are pretending to be someone in a pretend bar via an Avatar. Yes, this is exactly the sort of thing i purposed in my earlier thread about sex furniture and animated sex balls in the Captain's Passage a week or so ago. Expanding my idea into the hole station is an execrable idea that I fully endorse! Shopping malls and bars and casinos and clubs for showing off and meeting for emergent intercourse would be wonderful.
Its no secret that something like 67% of Eve players were in favor of Wandering Into Stations when it was first prompted by the dev's, and they deserve pats on the back all round and hats off to boot. But why stop there? Push the boat out, CCP! Give the people what they want! Adult mature thematic elements, gambling, storytelling environments with dance and RP animations and player houses. In many other MMOs, the importance and value of player housing is legendary. Just look at Star Wars Galaxies! I like my Tristan, but it doesnt' have mantlepiece or a romantic boudoir for thematic liasons!

There already is a megathread about this, so I'll keep it short.
For WiS or against? Yes, I'm all for WiS social zones. No, don't think you'll have to create these unrealistic "Hey, my capsuleer goes commando and goes on some radioactive station leaving his ship behind mini-games" Sounds both unrealistic AND cheap in my ears... No, don't think it would change anything going on in space. Player-Run shops, bars, etc would be cool
Will this ever happen? Nope, don't think so. CCP can't get it done. Don't blame them. We'll be caged forever, BUT we can spin our ships till senseless.
Does the whole "space barbies" and "Second Life" talk make sense? Not when you look at other games and the original premise that EVE was thought of as a total immersion space simulation.
"Fix the space bugs & stuff" talk...
Yes, I stumble over tons of critical bugs every day. Just jumped about 90 jumps between two toons, crashed every second, but boldly re-logged every time. Erm, no. Actually didn't crash at all.
Would EVE be a better game with WiS & social aspects? Who can tell? CCP perhaps, if they would do some research in their prospective playerbase.
Conclusion: We have a great game in EVE. WiS would be great, but will never happen. Also kinda hope Star Citizen will be a success, though it won't be EVE, as the scope limits number of players online. I'll probably play both if it is any good. Also would look forward to more direct contrals then hopeful double-clicks in space, really, when we are at "space aspects". But that's just EVE. Luv it... Hate it at the same time sometimes. more social elements could definitely be nice in this game. WiS, easier corp creation/hiring, etc. it would not distract from nullsec in any way, CCP is going to throw money away on other things regardless, whether it be DUST or WoD or WiS. Id tell you two to get a room, but unfortunately there is only one person allowed to a room at the moment in game. Unless Alice is a hooker. Hookers aren't people, so you may be able to skirt the system with that technicality. Gee Alice. What do you think ??? Shall we ?

Bingo. It would attract a lot of new subscriptions. Some current Eve players would switch to hanging in station more, but some of the people who subscribe for the WiS aspect would also probably venture into space from time to time, perhaps even learning they enjoy out of station activities more.
You can't get everybody to like every idea. There will always be bugs. People have been saying "let's focus on fixing PVP/PVE/Mining gameplay and bugs" for years now. Where's the stopping point? There isn't one. Get WiS done CCP, focus there instead of WoD or any unknown ventures you may be planning that aren't related to Eve/Dust... http://www.militarygamers.com/ |

You and your hundred crew jump into my ship and fly it away? ;)
I don't think all the murder/thievery ideas are that good. Perhaps a fist fight in a bar, if needed.
But, face it: Capsuleers are pilots and I really cringe every time I hear that people describe their pod-dweller as super-ninja-assassin elite-swordsman sharpshooters. ;-)
Actually it would be nice to have shared social zones with DUSTies, who are really super-ninja-assassin elite swordsman sharpshooters and would wipe the floor with your usual pod-dweller. (Until they undock again, which is when we should be able to turn their Ark ships into sparkling stardust...)

But I would rather like to be able to customize and do more with my ships, instead of play barbie with my toon. Since this is a game about...you know, Space Ships! ... and market manipulation, and intrigue, and politics, and betrayal, and corporate organization/security, and scams, and any number of other things that have little (if anything) to do with space ships. And that's fair enough.
I was just pointing out that many people that are major, long time EVE players never leave the station yet play every day.
I'm a big fan of ship paint jobs myself, but I also see the value in expanding the types of game play available. |

5 years ago, Torfi made a presentation showing "ambulation". He walked around a station, showed "slots" that could be rented for commerce, corporation meeting rooms where a corp could hire a bot to handle greetings etc. He showed us a bar that had dancers and such as well as 3d minigames with holographic avatars sort of like battle chess. CCP removed all these videos form the website/youtube channel. This is the only one I can find and it is poor quality and does not show all the things Torfri showed.

Well, it *would* be cool, but it *would not* be EVE.
Avatar content does not belong in EVE. Actually, anything that it's not already in the game does not belong to it. And probably some things already in the game, don't belong to it neither -but CCP didn't noticed yet.
EVE is EVE which is EVE. You know EVE, it's been 10 years to date and it won't be changing, just will optimize until CCP gets another source of revenue -probably WoD.
So, no avatars in EVE. Avatars used to be the future, but the future is now (2 years since Summer of rage) and what you see now is the same as the future will be.
WiS = Waiting is Stupid. And some days, I'm not even bitter about it... CCP Unifex: -á"lurking single players (...)-áare the majority of characters on Tranquility"
...And so now we know why CCP hasn't done anything for soloers since Apochrypha. |

Well, once something hits the Internet, you can try to hide it as much as you want later on. Someone else kept it save for you. This is just one article about their ambitious ambulation: (describes all features they promised back then...) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/eve-online-walking-in-stations-hands-on?page=2
One early vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzy7DG8VR2s
And so on. I remember one site showed the completed pub, too. Of course then they forgot about it for a while to start from scratch.
The Eurogamer article mentioned:
Quote:The initial costumes created by artists "were very gamey - although they were cool, we felt that you wouldn't see this in a science-fiction film". Out they went, replaced by a costume designers' work that could actually be made in fabric, accurate down to the stitching. Similarly, the environment designs created by "level artists from popular FPS games" were scrapped for the work of architects and industrial designers, since stations wouldn't be used for combat, but shopping and social interaction
I wonder whom CCP hired for the CQs... Expert bird trap designers? Blog: http://aidanbrooder.wordpress.com My EVE Playlist on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSNuHY7z8n1q1BdLvW2verIfH8vvWtz_x |

Sure, since we are dreaming up things here anyway: If you're on a station in HS, you can shoot one avatar, then Station Security fries you. If you're in low sec, Station Security only guards doors of offical buildings. Shops are unprotected. If you are in Null Sec, you don't call it "Station" anymore, but "battlezone", but the Alliance owning the station can decide who can land.
Also, since you are a pilot, with absolutely no close combat or personal weapon experience, you regularly get beaten up by DUSTies, especially when there is a bounty on your head. Good enough to slake your bloodthirst?
Quote:... and did not draw too much from the core bussiness of blowing ships up.
As your usual industrialist or trader if that is the core business for them. The fact that it is the core business for you, keeps them in business. But the same is true vice versa. Although people always say EVE is PVP-centric (...and come up with pretty weird examples for "PVP"...), basically EVE can be many things. Just not 100% secure. Unless you are a station trader.
Had they done ambulation the way they originally imagined it, there would now be more career paths in EVE. Hey, even in APB Reloaded, that is clearly PVP only, you had guys famous for creating the best collection of clothes. In EVE we would call that "market PVP". There people just got cool looking stuff for themselves and their cars from others that had a talent to create it.

I had dreamed of capsuleers launching drone clones into combat for fun, like gladiator combats. Already conceived some of the imagery, the capsuleers in their pods and the drone clones caged, then released like puppets under their bloodthirsty masters' control.
They would duel with swords, with muzzle-loading pistols, with 6-shooters like in Western movies, you name it. Everything human mind could conceive could be done -billionaires and their expensive games.
Pilots would fly to the stars to bring money for their landborne amusement. Some would earn a living without ever piloting a ship -maybe some wouldn't even be capsuleers but implanted commoners with special skills paying a lower subscription, maybe, or even F2P.
Others would use NPC agents to play card games (didn't EVE had a card game once?), unlocking abilities, meeting other NPC and eventually triggering events for other capsuleers and generating dynamic PvE content for mission runners.
And yes, some of us would dance together, sing along or play Monkeyheads in a pool. With OUR money.
Instead, we're gonna get some restats for HACs in the future and CS too just with Odyssey 1.1. How lucky us, that's such an awesome way to put 100 million dollars to work that words fail me. CCP Unifex: -á"lurking single players (...)-áare the majority of characters on Tranquility"

I play EVE because every one who's not blue is usually red, because if you get distracted you die.
I play EVE for things like spies, betrayals, politics, turn of power. I really enjoyed reading logging in and find PL litterally invaded my 'home' system for the war in Fountain. I enjoyed reading and watching the war, the propaganda, and the turns of events.
I play EVE because seems like PL won the AT XI over INTEL.
because THIS is EVE. THIS is why it's still growing after 10 years, because of the community and interaction between players.
don't be fooled - I love internet spaceships. but they are mostly used as a gauge for power and possibility in EVE. hell, i would play EVE even if it was about internet giant rabbits as long as the feeling of the sandbox, market, power and politics was the same.
you don't have to undock to play EVE sometimes - tbh, if i learned one thing in these years, you don't even have to play EVE to be playing EVE. clicking on a propaganda video on youtube? you are playing the game.

Stealing ships? That's silly. Why steal when you can politely ask, I bet some scrub would let some guy walk up to his hangar and say "Hey, wow that is a cool ship! I was never in an Abaddon, can I try it out?" and then the scrub says "Aw yeah you can, but don't steal it lol:D" and then the thief is like "Of course not man ;D" and gets the rights to fly the Abaddon of the scrub, prompty gets in and undocks and flies away, then docks it again and doesn't give the rights back. Now that is more EVE-like.
Just going up and taking a ship? Sounds horribad, even though I am sure it'd be fun. Just the prospect of seeing hundreds of ships un/docking and people walking around sounds great though. Granted, it might be a little lonely in some nullsec stations, but Jita would be fun as hell to see. And laggy. pâ+(*GîÆGêçGîÆ*)n+ë pü+(pé£GêçpÇü-¦)pü+ (GùòGÇ+GùòG£+) |

Imagine the jita bots standing in a corner always telling the same **** and you could actually do something about it.
also, I'm convinced it's easier to socialize like that. yeah of course it's basically not so different to a chat now. but we humans do show strange behaviour quite often. |

Just confirming that games like Neverwinter Nights (where people created/modded/scripted entire worlds and server with custom lores and completely new story lines with massive player-bases of role-players) are for people who lack imagination. These are the people who spend their time writing mini-novels and writing detailed back stories for their characters. Just to confirm, these people lack imagination. Sarcasm aside, you could say the same for people who want any new Spaceship content. Just imagine the spaceships are balanced right? You don't need CCP to do any of it.
And people do the same (write novellas, create their own storylines) in EVE, which has no avatar gameplay whatsoever?
All I'm saying is that 3D avatars are not required in EVE to interact with others, neither do they lead to immersion. I'd argue that it's easier to do IC when you don't have to associate yourself with a pixel person.
(FWIW: Shinjiketo is a RP-lite alliance and I absolutely love the RP aspect to EVE, having IC motives takes the game on a whole new level- I just don't need to see my avatar to achieve that)
Also, I find books more immersive than for example Skyrim at ultra gfx and tons of tweaks- fleshing out the fantasy world in detail does not compare to the vivid experiences created by one's imagination.

There's not really a great deal of point arguing with you. Because you won't see sense, and you definitely wont post sense. But just for old times sake I'll prove you wrong one last time. A quote from one of the devs responsible for the latest prototpye speaking on the issue less than 6 months ago;

That's not necessarily bad; I guess I wouldn't be allowed to pay a mere 9.16 euros per month for this game if it was performing AAA in the subscriptions front.

People play this game for space content. Massive battles with over 4,000 people bring more attention (and then subscriptions) to the game than the ridiculous dreams of furries and roleplayers who want to be able to have dance parties and fashion shows in their CQs. |

So far, reasoning with you has been a futile effort, as far as I can tell. Not to mention all you've done so far is call people pedos and furries for wanting CCP to expand on the EVE Universe (which yes, is so much more than spaceships).

This is not completely wrong. Personally I got into eve after reading about the GHSC (Guiding Hand Social Club) infiltration and Heist. That wasn't a nullsec thing iirc.
But let's look at that from another perspective:
- as time goes by and technology becomes better and cheaper, other companies will catch up in terms of MASSIVELY multiplayer online games. We see this happen with Planetside 2 running circles around DUST514. So, how long will the huge battles argument pull new players ?
New players also face the feeling that (even though unjustified) they can't compete with other players in EVE. Their arguments would be: - EVE has been around for 10 years, how will I ever catch up ? - Thousands of players in one alliance ... my corp will never be able to compete with that. For CCP to be able to say: "Hey we added a whole new layer to the game that is not restricted to huge alliances" would make EVE a little bit more inviting. Similar to what faction warfare or wormholes did.
New MMOs and Space MMOs / Space games are cropping up left and right and borrowing ideas from some of the best games, including EVE. We may know that EVE is better in many ways. Do new players know that ? Just take a look at two things:
What features those new games either have or advertise, and also what new players complain about in the new players Q&A or in GD. - X rebirth and Star Citizen both have stations you can walk through. - Both games have a 3D cockpit and game-pad steering (Not that I would want that, but it's a regular complaint seen on the forum.) - Seamless space to planet flight as featured in Evochron mercenaries, Elite: final frontier .... EVE once had an atmospheric flight demo to showcase (got shelved)
Yeah, EVE still beats those games ... but for how long, if we stall development. Don't get me wrong, I want to see modular POS and "fixing nullsec". I want "fixing low-sec" even more than that, but one day we'll have WIS.
FPS games evolved from the likes of Operation Wolf to become broader in scope as demonstrated by Battlefield 4.
In the past developers created tank sims, infantry combat, jet combat, helicopter combat and submarine games individually. Sometimes they even used the same engine for all of this (Novalogic's Comanche, Armored Fist, F-22 Raptor, Delta Force). Battlefield1942 was among the first to combine such games into one solid experience.
EVE set out to create a seamless dark universe. Old players remember the "drawing board" section on the EVE homepage. We're keeping CCP to that promise for the benefit of both old and new players. We're not uncompromising like the Jita protesters. We do have patience, but we also want to make it clear what we stand for.
People who think EVE should be limited to what it is now, just with 3X, 5X, 10X as many ships to choose from are putting quantity over quality more than the ones who stand for a WIS someday in the future.
Also, can someone explain what this thread is about?-á (Relax ! I'm just quoting Holgrak Blacksmith here.)

Your complaint has been adressed already in this thread.
WIS didn't cause the damage, the possibility of EVE turning into a pay to win game through micro-transactions for ammo and ships (NEX store) coupled with a loss of trust in CCP was. (1000$ dollar designer jeans leak and miscommunications on what the NEX store would be).
WIS would not take away from the space sim. You wouldn't be able to shoot a POS, a POCO or any ship from within a station much like you can't do that now.
You don't have to undock now without WIS. Some traders and scammers never undock.

The hilariously bad microtransactions were definitely a disaster but the bigger problem was the years of dev time wasted on WiS content which could have been put to use fixing glaring problems with Eve's core gameplay. We can see now, two years after Incarna, that by focusing on real Eve content CCP can continue growing their game. I would hate to see them turn around that positive growth now by lapsing back into catering to roleplayers. |

Honestly WiS is allready almost complete, the stuff we have in the Captain's Quarters, the DUST 514 lobby ... all that is there and my bet is that it would not cause massive *issues* to lay for 10 years to explore a new dimension for the Eve Universe so to speak.
The very fact that you are posting in this thread at all signifies that _some_ people do like the prospect of doing _stuff_ in character, for example market browsing, or trading between people in station.
Combine this with the fact that the Dust code is live on tranquility and suddenly this WiS thing does not seem so ridiculously time consuming for CCP.
Fact of the matter is, people are psychologically attracted to things they can relate with, WiS generates a model of the human body to run around with and immerse a little further into the game. If done correctly (and not with a horrible expensive ingame shop) this could even by itself get more people into the game.
This stuff is actually about future subscribers, and the demography of the Eve Online player base (which is horribly lopsided to the testosterone variation). if CCP wants to expand their player base to include a more variety of players (good for long term existence of CCP) they need to get the attention of other people than us. You know, the already invested and content players.
And they have to do that because we are a bunch of unloyal idiots when it comes to games, when Call of -look Quake3 engine- Shooty McShooty 49 comes out suddenly 30% of the players (unloyal scrubs) let their subscription lapse for 3 months and start playing that.
CCP is still a company that will need income far further into the future than your subscription will run for.
So basically it's your fault, and you should feel bad. |

You are correct in that there was too much focus on WIS and not enough bug fixes and new content for the space portion of the game... the 18 month wait was highly irritating. The pay off was horribly disappointing.
No one is asking for a repeat of that situation.
What people are asking for is a reasonable team of developers to work on it... AFTER developing solid and entertaining concepts for it to focus on.
Pointless Avatar with no game play for it = bad.
Great Avatar with great game play for it to be used in = good.
As a side note, there have been far more news stories written about things that have happened outside of space ships than in. |

I'm going to have to quote another post I wrote here
Silent Rambo wrote:The major point of an MMO is to foster human interaction in a setting where they can work together or against each other and have fun. Fostering that human interaction is where WiS should go in the first place. The fact is why does walking in stations have to affect in space content directly? It really doesn't, especially in its first iterations. If you don't need this, then don't do it. It isn't all about what you like, its also about what everyone else will like too, and continuing to polish EvE forever without actually adding new and different content will only make the game die.
Stations should be separate place were people can interact with each other, buy things, sell things, under the table deals, chat, interact, and relax. Be a business man, open a casino, bar, or corporate recruiting office. There are so many possibilities. Have a little imagination. |

One note I'd like to make here, I applaud the work done on the prototype. However it's main focus seemed to be on interactions with either environment or NPC's (with the possibility of other players horning in occasionally).
This is fine as far as it goes, but although it is a more difficult concept I believe the focus should be on player interactions instead of being more PVEcentric.
Player interactions are the heart and soul of the best content the game has to offer, PVE is there simply for a framework to build on. If Avatar game play focuses on PVE elements for its core I think you may be limiting it's appeal for a large portion of the player base.
I realize developing the PVE mechanics was no easy task, and the concept is good so far, but what really needs to be explored is how to incorporate player interactive (or even player vs player) content and mechanics... admittedly a MUCH more difficult task.
Just my take.
tl/dr: For Avatar game play to really take off you will need to be able to use it to either work more closely with other players, or be able to screw them over in new and creative ways... or preferably both. |

This is very true. EVE has to continue to evolve, grow, improve, become a bigger, better game. I can imagine smuggling become an actual career and bounty hunting actually being a decent system, because you could break into others quarters/ambush them in stations.
Grow or die. While yes, EVE won't die, but it won't grow either. Eventually a bigger, better space MMO will come up with the features EVE doesn't have, and there we go, EVE just lost 20% of its playerbase. (exaggeration) |

How many threads have came and went on this forum concerning walking in stations? Any time one of the longer running threads begins fading, some "new player" creates a new a thread and practically repeats the same tired lines "If CCP would create avatar gaming, then their subs would increase drastically!" Then there is a list of potential ideas on what would be involved; yet if you have followed CCP's stance over the years, these same ideas (black market, drugs, etc.) have been pushed aside and left to die on their own. The old CCP that would have embraced such seedier sides of life are now replaced by a group that is driving the future of the game towards the generally accepted society. So even gambling might be a touchy subject with them and they're stalling to avoid it. I am not sure about the rest of the world, but around here, one must be at least 21 years old to enter the casino. Yet CCP has the game set for a teen rating. Some bad press that Little Junior used mommy's credit card to purchase plex that he lost in a virtual casino within an online game...?
CCP knows that offering a few bread crumbs of potential avatar game play will keep the hardcore walking in stations crowd here, paying their monthly or yearly fee. Really, how many of you - I'm look at you Ishtanchuk - have claimed boldly and loudly that if CCP does not add avatar gaming, then you and your subscriptions are gone? A glimmer of hope, some small fan fest video, and then, "Sorry, priorities changed here at CCP - we might get around to it again "soon"." And all the doom and gloom that without avatar gaming, then Eve is dead arises once more. That is a kicker for me - there is no other ~potential~ ideas that could possibly keep Eve going forward and stronger than _just_ avatar gaming? No avatar equates to no future, yet here is the game looking ahead to another decade with avatar gaming on some distant back burner.
Do not get me wrong - I would love to see some "good" avatar gaming that has relevance to the rest of the Eve universe. But I highly doubt CCP is going to introduce a dark side, much less a "Blade Runner" type atmosphere. The "cold, dark, harsh universe" is no longer here - at least to me. Look at all the changes CCP has introduced to make life easier and all the safety nets and switches so mistakes are avoided instead of pounced upon as in the past. And that is where CCP is running in square circles. Expand to bring in a social media angle and (based upon an online article I read,) people will leave (eventually) in droves similar to how Facebook and that ilk is passe now - a flash in the pan event overall. Or expand to allow the safety of the station to be breached and players will leave in droves because of the constant ganking involved because people rather just socialize with their avatars and nothing more.
So CCP is following the path of least resistance - offer hope that one day avatar gaming might be here, but doing nothing more than that - offering hope.
Just my thoughts, again, on the matter. |

CCP implemented the whole captains quarters because of all the stationwalking whining. Then all hell broke loose. And you're right; every now and then the exact same thread with the exact same arguments comes along.
Fortunately for those who dont give a **** about avatars walking around like some Sims in space crap ; CCP apologized for all the non usefull crap and started listening to its fanbase again. EVE players that is. Not the sims in space dudes.

I hate to say it, but your probably right. I've been playing for nearing five years now, and I am starting to get bored. Not because of a lack of Avatar content (let's face it, Eve kept me interested for at least 4 years before I started getting bored), but just because every expansion since Crucible has been a little disappointing. Not massively disappointing, just not quite as good as the one before. Each one has expanded on an area of the game that is really only for a small number of people. Inferno was the whole faction warfare thing, which is great but I had already participated in faction warfare and had no intention of going back to try it again. Retribution was a bit of an exception because I loved the bounties thing, just because It could make me a small amount of my ISK back from PvP, but Odyssey was horrendous. A boring bunch of tweaks that didn't really affect me in the slightest, and I've never really enjoyed exploration and the new crap mechanic didn't change that.
But I've already invested too much. I keep telling myself I'll quit if I don't like what they say is going to be in the Winter expansion, but I probably wont. CCP have me trapped. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

I'm just sayin' you are already playing that game right now, and there are those who never undock because of said market play. But there are possibilities for cool stuff in WiS that right now are not in the game, and it might attract more people to at least try and see what this thing is all about.
And if - and i do not know whether or not - any competitor is doing anything like this CCP would be wise to gauge the current players reaction to more of this.
Because i do believe a lot of those people that 'revolted' against the cash shop before might not even play anymore in the numbers one might think they do. A lot of people are and will be unloyal scrubs with a thing called RL or new shiney 'other games'. Why i myself had hiatuses from Eve Online due to other priorities.
I was around, and i do not like cash shops in general, but if CCP just drops that stuff right into the trash and does something cool with WiS i am all for it. (providing it includes social interaction and items will degrade creating a market) |

I actually left the game and played other stuff (notoriously Planetside 2) for several months, and before that I had almost stopped login in.
Spaceship content is terribly lacking to me and to other players (lacks soloability, casual friendliness and non-nullsec endgame). Avatars promised to add something that was not related to spaceships -something totally new and different.
Now CCP has abandoned avatars and spaceship content has stalled. Even worst, CCP no longer dares to stray from the nightmareish complexity of "core" gameplay and bang their heads on walls for six months just to restat a few f**** ships without breaking them.
Rather than develop in other directions and let players make up new ways to play, we are now entangled on iteration upon iteration of the same old ****. Even worst, the remaining players like it this way. Everyone is gonna get his pet restat, hoorray!
But then, what interests me now in 2013, is the same it was in 2008. Along the way, I've lost things i liked to do, the hope to do other things I could like to do, and my trust on CCP. They have become the company that don't. They don't dream. Don't dare. Don't change. They don't go somewhere. And so they aren't going anywhere. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. The players already decided. After incarna there was a massive drop in subs but since CCP wisely decided to refocus on real Eve content subs have gone up every quarter. This is a good thing and I have to wonder about people who want to harm the game by returning to the summer of rage days.

A boring bunch of tweaks that didn't really affect me in the slightest, and I've never really enjoyed exploration and the new crap mechanic didn't change that.(...).
Odyssey are those green circles on my screen, which nobody bothers to warp to, and the red ones nobody cares to scan for. They're pretty the same when i first exit the station and when I'm back to it. Untouched.
I've been clearing green circles with a Noctis -but not long, they're an awful way to waste your time for such puny reward that is only worth the LOLz of actually ratting in a Noctis. Arduemont wrote:jujumagumboo wrote:Arduemont wrote:jujumagumboo wrote:prioritizes what the vast majority of its paying customers want instead of the tiny population of disgusting roleplayers?
You've done it again. You're not the vast majority, your just a sad alt of a dumb hick who has no killboard and is afraid to post with his main. Just from counting comments in these threads, the people who want WiS outweigh the opposition. And from my experience being in null corps, lowsec pirate corps, highsec corps, WH corps, the same can be said of people in game. This vast majority you speak of is a figment of your limited imagination. Here is how you can prove you are right: round up all the current players who want to play Barbies in Space and cancel your accounts. If there are really that many of you CCP will stop everything else and make it happen. Here is how I can prove I am right: Look at the population increases of the last two years since they put roleplaying trash on the back burner. If all the people who wanted WiS eventually implemented cancelled their accounts Eve would die instantly. So that's not going to happen because most people actually care about the future of Eve. As for you proving your right, the population increase over two expansions proves nothing. The Eve playerbase has grown every year like clockwork. After Incarna, the population was still higher than the previous year. They had to make cuts on jobs because they didn't meet their predictions, as a result of Incarna being a terrible expansion. The biggest population increase Eve has seen was after Crucible, the expansion that implemented the three remaining captains quarters. The second biggest rise in player subs followed retribution, where they had a really really good advertising campaign. No one know what happened after Odyssey because they haven't said, so your speaking out of your ass. Check your facts. Every post you've made so far makes you looked stupider than you were before. its a great idea. It would be cool seeing everyone running towards their ships when there is a CTA :D one reason a lot of players tend to leave eve in the first few hours of playing is because they don't see anyone else. But if they started out in a station with lots of players walking around then they would know they aren't alone |

Seriously, is this just another case of the Goons being "here to wreck your game"?
And why the hate for roleplayers? What exactly is it we're doing that's so bowel-clenchingly "KEEP THOSE SONS OF BEACHES AWAY FROM MY GAME!" terrible? And this! this is the problem, right here. People have got it into their heads that WiS content = playing dressup.
Understand - the people who are calling for this stuff want actual content. EVE content, involving scams and capitalism and opportunity and risk and reward and other players.
Nobody is calling for a science fiction dollhouse where we can brush our hair and get the coffee table just right. that's an afterthought, the thing you do when you're waiting for the FC to wake up. We're calling for the game to expand into stations and bring us now means to make money, new ways to rip each other off, new assets to put on the line, and new rewards for success.
You're right, this is EVE, not Barbie. and what we are calling for is...
Are you paying attention? This is important.
we are calling for EVE in stations
Hell, I'm renaming it right now. We're no longer calling it Walking in Stations. Just walking is dull. As of this moment, forget WiS, Incarna and Ambulation, they're all officially rebranded.

Well if CCP had their way we would be getting closer to that but the vocal playerbase started crying so hard after Incarna that they decided to "focus on spaceships" - which we can see now just means they will rehash and re-release existing content until they have they run out of "spaceship"-content to rehash. Twice.
So come back in five years or so and maybe there will be some visible progress towards your vision of EVE. |

Of course, Eve is only this... Never mind the people who make all the ships that get blown up. Never mind the traders who move the ships to you so that someone can fly them and get them blown up. Nevermind POSes, the people who make them, and their fuel. Who cares about those things right?
We could obviously carry on as normal if no one made any of those things. The fact of the matter is that more people make your ships than blow them up.
Also, nobody wants Barbie. Eve in Stations sounds much better. I'll be using that in future. |
