Edited by: xaioguai on 15/01/2006 23:31:50 Edited by: xaioguai on 15/01/2006 23:31:07 I've recently discovered numbers of account were ban from CCP,and many of them are chinese with verious reason. sadly, some of them are my in game buddies.
As a channel admin of chinese channel and veteran player, I welcome CCP's action against those Chinese ISK farmers. however, many of them claim innocent and cry to me for help. Sadly, being busy in RL plus writing articles for Chinese noobs already take most of my game time, I cannot help them much beside direct them to EVE customer support mailbox. Many of them decide to quit the game because it is impossible for them to write a email to CSR due to language barrier.
I am not here to claim they are innocent, but I will like CCP can have a Chinese language CSR mailbox which can help the players who claim they are innocent. It is also a good thing to jump start training chinese CSR/GM if the Chinese server plan is acutally on going.
BTW, shouldn't CCP attach server log in addition to just a plain reason when benning an account? After all, my petition for ship destruction never went through due to "there were no server problems registered at the time of this incident" So some proof that make you take the action to close an account will be really welcome.

Edited by: voogru on 15/01/2006 23:35:01 I am pretty sure they are carefully investigated before being banned.
The fact that a large majority of blatant farmers are not banned for months probably means they are investigated really deeply.
About them claiming innocence, of course they would deny it. It's human nature.

I think it's reasonable to expect if CCP take money from Chinese players that they are able to provide support for Chinese players.
Then again is it reasonable to expect a player on a game that uses a variant of English to speak English?
What won't happen, though, Xaioguai is CCP explaining to you why any players were banned, it's in the terms and conditions that they won't discuss with a third party.

It usually takes over a month between a petition being submitted, and a currency farming fleet being banned. This suggests that where a case is provable, the checks are exhaustive. If anything, the pace of enforcement is too slow.

Hmmmm... not entirely correct. I, myself finds difficulty understanding variants of English. Not everyone can write understandable "mail-perfect" English. Sometimes, I find it easier to understand them by actually making the effort to have a real-time conversation. Well, we did have all that password trouble earlier. Maybe CCP are still freezing and auditing some accounts? I can't speculate. It is solely up to the account owner to discuss such matters with CCP.

And what about the Germans that don't speak good english?
Or the Japanese?
Or the Dutch like Sonofollo who can't spell worth a damn?
Or the Brazillians?
Do you suggest that EVE's market be restricted to those who took English in high school? Have you forgotten about the fact that a Chinese input system has been hardcoded into EVE? Do you think its there for no reason?
American Jingoism has no place here. If you're American, which it sounds like you are, I feel embarrased to have you in my country and speaking my language. Sickening.

I'm not Chinese, but that has got to be one of the most offensive postings I have ever read on any of the Eve forums, even if it was meant in jest. I hope the only thing that comes from that comment is that you yourself get an extremely long ban from the game.

I won't caretheless about those still in the NPC corp, coz they are either farmers or one that just start the game hense won't lose much to start over. What brought to my attention are some players that are in player corps and have pretty good NPC corp standing. I can hardly believe a macro miner with 5.0 standing toward caldari navy

Personally I have no problems understanding the Americanised English that Eve uses, still infuriates me that an international game uses a localised language, but that's besides the point!
Perhaps a multi-language disclaimer should appear when setting up any new account - trial or not - saying that the support language is a butchered form of English, and that while conversations in-game can be in any language, official support will not be.
Either that, or decide that since the international market is 'worth it' then all major languages should be supported.

I wonder where the rules r that say this ain't a game for non english speaking players??? This is a game for EVERYONE...So let them speak what language they want, if u can't understand them, don't talk to them, or just quit the game...And they aren't lagging up the server more than me or u do...We play as we like, and they play as they like...So stop being rascist here....

from my experience, CCP spends at least 2-3weeks investigating reports of macroing/farming, as it takes on average about 3weeks+ from the time i send in a petition on macroers to be banned.
i spend at least 2 days observing a suspected macroer before i decide to petition or not. as far as i know, all players i petition for macroing have been banned. -i have seen one login just 3 days ago after about 5months of no logins. so not all are permabanned. the accounts that do not get banned are usually the ones that fly the hauler, as they are usually always available to respond to a chat request.
from this i can conclude that CCP does a pretty thorough job of investigating any petitioned breaches of the EULA concerning macroers.
for the record. all the players i have petioned have been of asian decent of some sort, as the hauler account always responded in chinese (if they do respond) or some if not all the players in the macro group have had 2 or more names that are of chinese/asian origin or are controlled by a chinese master account,
do not confuse facts with racism. it just so happens (and in my case 100%) that macroers are by and large, asian/chinese decent.

How about chinese learn english like many other players me being one of them. There are many spanish and frenches that play this game and they don't have a "special" customer support box in their language. Why should chinese have? If they camed to play this game then it is logical they must know the english language.

Good idea. Real chinese players should make corporations, and not allow macro miners or the like in.
Or better yet, make a corp and recruit every macro miner you can possibly find. I'm quite sure that there are a few people out there who'd be more than happy to fund a corp like that.

You're kidding right?
Any merc group that's hired to protect a bunch of same-age chars mining for extremely long periods of times, and with random names and little, if any chatting from them, who work like clockwork, are way too desperate for work.
"I didn't know the were macros, i figured it was a few dozen alts with gibberish names all created at the same time by people who LOVE to mine for 12-23 hrs a day" isn't going to fly with CCP.

The problem is, not all people are diligent language learner. Sure they can speak bit of engrish, but they can't fully understand or speak english. Like me for example; I'm having trouble chatting to a German guy that only can say few english word. I know most Germans don't speak english. If that was a joke, it was a VERY poor one I reckon to save lagging up the servers, YOU should get banned for narrow minded, racist comments like that. The world today is coming together nicely as people from online games are finally breaching thier language, race and culture differences to the point where even i am planning a trip round Europe later in the year to visit new friends i have made in the past couple of years.

He put it a bit too generalised, yes, and the post will most likely get removed anyway.
The language of the game however, is english, and it is very annoying indeed if people don't speak it. English is one of the easiest languages in the world, and imho some people should invest a bit more time to learn it.
Did you ever consider people are using a 'language barrier' to their advantage? Macroers might pretend to be Chinese, hoping people will leave them alone out of sympathy towards their language difficulties. They prey on the politically correct, who tend to be rather gullible.

actually, english is one of the harder languages to learn. I'd explain but I'm not taking this into an english lession; suffice to say, think about all the idioms we have for example.

I can be a Dutch (no offense) macro-er to cover a widespread hatred towards Asian macro-ers. The in-thing these days are Asians are all farmers. Find an Asian name, and OMGITSAMMONTHELOOSE, KILL KILL KILL.
You are the perfect example of how this red-hearring is making you to believe that Asians are bad because they are macro-ers so ban them all to save TQ.
/me thinks you need to have your head examined.
oh yeah, i'm sure there are hundreds of players spending countless hours training up covetor and apoc alts with chinese names, to help reinforce the hatred of chinese players. -just so they can have those accounts banned. do you know how ridiculous you sound? -sure things like this are done in RL and there are facts to back it up. show me the facts that this is practiced in EVE, -a game, and i'll believe you.

i could care less what race they are. -the only thing that concerns me is that they are macroing in my home system. it just so happens that in my case, they've all been of asian decent. nothing racist about it.
perhaps i should have left the whole asian comment out or reworded it. i was trying to show that statistcally speaking, if CCP bans a bunch of macroers, chances are they will most likely overwhelmingly be asian as they make up large portion of the macro base. they do not go out and seek asian players to ban. they just follow the evidence. the fact that most are asian is just a by-product of the were the evidence leads them.

The game is presented in English, admittedly it's American English but you can't have everything, so it is not unreasonable for them to expect all communications to be in English.
I played French MMOs in the past, I am not French, but I learned more of the language so I could communicate with the GMs and players there. I did the same with a German MMO.
I think that expecting any MMO to cater to language groups other than the one it is presented in is ridiculous. If your english isn't up to scratch then either accept that and struggle along, or don't play.
The argument about the support coming in owing to the Chinese server is specious too. The China EVE will be run in China by a Chinese company - not by CCP Iceland.
Your friends need to find someone locally who writes english well and get them to translate. Problem solved without trying to change the game to suit themselves.
Anyone who won't make an effort to learn the language of the game they play is just idle, and playing the wrong game.

Well spoken, I entirely agree with you. So many fools on the boards accuse others for being racists as soon as [insert any nationality] is mentioned. I personally have not been macro hunting very much but the ones I did see (all in all about 15 different characters) all had asian names and some extremely poor spelling conversation macros (or it might have been them talking but then they didn't make any sense at all). In my mind most macroers are asian...I won't say all because that seems super, extremely, cosmically unlikely. If my latest statement rings the "racist" bell in someones head that person is somewhat of a touchy dimwit.
The PC:ness has gone too far. I'm sure that even IF all macroers indeed were asian there would still be people getting worked up if someone stated that fact. Besides...chinese aren't a race...they're a people. And how someone connects "many asian characters in EVE are macroers" with racism is totally beyond me. When I see a chinese macroer my first thought isn't; OMG; a china macroer, chinese people are inferior because..uhm...well...they macro?. My first thought is; "******* macroer, die!". I really dislike macroers. Very much. If my character would be rich and skilled enough I'd like to kill them all. And yes, so far I've only seen asian named ones. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. did only read part of the thread ... however if these guys where "hired" in by the macro's to protect ... then it is quite possible within the EULA to ban them.
Why ?? because like with stealing from macro users you need to petition them first or you risk loosing stuff because you then take advantage by a exploit.
Same goes to those hired to protect macrousers...

First. This is a game, this won't be the next globalization revolution. mostly because it's just a game but also because it's one of the smallest of the more known ones. EVEs name is much larger than it's following, so to speak.
Second. It would be great to have chinese speaking CSR, unfortunatly they aren't free. If CCP would have thought it worthwhile they'd no doubt already have them or they would have posted a job ad for such persons.
I very much doubt a random player knows what is a win/win situation for CCP better than CCP themselves. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination. |

The multi language CSR is a really bad idea. Games have prerequisites, and in this game, in this server, you have to speak english. I accepted this the moment I joined the game, even if english is not my main language, I wouldn't even dare to go play a Korean game and ask them for CSRs in my own language.
Giving support to non english languages will just result in creating bigger communities of people that you won't be able to interact with - bad, bad, bad thing for a game where communication is vital. I still remember Drachenfels server in UO, that was officially english but actually german, and the problems that it generated were not something I want to deal with, again.
Personally, I'm a strong supporter of fully localized servers, and I'm thrilled that CCP is going in the same line. It's better for all parties, bigger markets, less attrition caused mainly by the inability to communicate - just think about it: how many suspected macroers were quickly judged because of "I sent them a mail but didnt answer me" reasons ?

What is the problem to reply an standard phrase "Sorry I dont speak english" Is it hard? Or maybe all macrominer belong to one race that got a very low IQ?
I reject multilanguages and I`ll tell why. Multilanguage for software is good, that helps. But when you begin to interact with a person who used to work with the same software in another language, then you may encounter some problmes.
Lets see.. Excel
There is a formula that does Summation. it is called "SUM" In russian the same formula is called "CYMMA"
So, there can be a problem with explaining that thing to another. Because ppl use different langages.
Historicaly English became a Number 1 language in the whole world. And I don`t even talk to ppl if they don`t speak it.

I don't really want localized clients on the same server - absolutely. English speaking server = english client. I want (well ... as much as a customer has rights of wanting, but I lack better words) localized clients on localized servers, without the problem of interacting. Make it easy, straightforward for them to play in their own server, surrounded by their own communities all speaking in the same language, hell, even support one time character transfers from here to there. Don't force them in a bad mix that cause problems on both sides: adding support to make mixing easier can just make things worst.
The concept should be really easy: I give you two choices, you can stay in the international server or move to your localized server, either ways you have to adapt to the culture there, languages, downtime schedule, everything.

Edited by: Voodoo Papa on 16/01/2006 10:10:44 This game is diffucult enough for english speaking people, much less someone who cannot read/speak it. When CCP checks for macro users, one of the first things they do is check to see if the person is at their computer and responds to their messages. If this isnt done, they take further steps in investigating the issue. Things like, is the ship actually flying and operating..mining and hauling...
if you can read a translated spread sheet that tells you X units of omber yeilds X amount of ISK, you can respond to CCP.
Quote: Many of them decide to quit the game because it is impossible for them to write a email to CSR due to language barrier.
good, theres a cluster coming up for them very soon. I hope CCP can put in place a character transfer and get rid of all of these people who cannot communicate to others on tranquility.
Technically, if they cannot understand (IE. READ) TOS they dont belong here

Allowing the players to communicate in any language they like is something they're going for, so that players can use the language they're most comfortable with for routine communication.
Unfortunately, providing support services in many languages would be prohibitably expensive. The GM team isn't huge, so to support every major language (after all, if they do Chinese, why not the others too?) they'd probably need every GM to be fluent in 2 or 3 of them. That level of language skills isn't cheap.
Originally by: xaioguai and secondly, won't that be great to have the chinese company paid future CSR come to fimilarize the daily task yet off load some of CCP's work? I think its a win win situation.
Of course, the GM's for that company might not even be recruited yet - not very smart hiring GMs now if they'll be sitting there doing nothing for months while the conversion of Eve is completed and the new server setup. Also, due to Chinese law, the Eve running there will have to have significant differences to TQ, so any cross-training of GMs would be of very limited use.
Originally by: Failin Zhar And how someone connects "many asian characters in EVE are macroers" with racism is totally beyond me.
There are 2 problems with the way that line is being used at the moment. Firstly, it is being stated while being supported by only anecdotal evidence, if any. There is a big difference between "all/many the macroers I've seen have replied in Chinese" and "All/many macroers are Chinese". When the latter statement is made with very little evidence, it does lead to the question of what else is driving that opinion. If it's the fact, fine, but facts need to be backed up by evidence.
The second problem is that many people who are saying "all macroers are Chinese" are then proposing "solutions" to macros that are implicitly assuming that that means "all Chinese are macroers". It's this use of the argument that is offensive.
Personally I don't see why the country of residence or racial group of a person should even be a part of the macro discussion. If they macro, they should be banned, regardless of where they come from. But by the same token, if they are playing legitimately, then they should be left to play, free from harrasment, regardless of where they come from.

If people are to be banned for bad English, I'm afraid we're going to have to let half (or more) of the American players go.
And you, too: Sentences start with capital letters, end in a period, not two (three is sometimes used for literary effect to denote that the sentence has a "vague" ending, but two looks like you have a broken keyboard), and "Chinese" is a name of a language, and therefore written with a capital letter.

Back to the subject at hand:
One thing that might be messing up the works is that CCP looks at your IP address to determine what other accounts to ban. This is not the only thing though, CCP can also pull your windows product ID which is unique to your installation of windows. So if you are playing EVE from an internet cafe CCP might end up banning everyone who uses that PC. Internet cafes are common in poorer nations such as Korea/China/Etc.

The problem is, not all people are diligent language learner. Sure they can speak bit of engrish, but they can't fully understand or speak english. Like me for example; I'm having trouble chatting to a German guy that only can say few english word. I know most Germans don't speak english. This can be seen in movie title that translated into german ("Shark tales" translated into "Big shark and little fish" in German).
wrong, shipping movies internationally and across languages creates problems with copyrights and well, general languages overall. 'shark tale' in english is also a play on words for 'shark tail' which they have both of. but in german, its Haifischgeschichte, when translated back turns into 'Shark fish history'...and most europeans can speak at least coherent phrased english. This has been stated about asian macroers/farmers before, by not knowning english yet still accepting the EULA it is voided as a fraudulent 'signing' of a contract.

Should, should not. They could, but they don't have to. They can terminate all the accounts they ever wish to for any reasons they ever wish to. This isn't democracy or some silly court. It's business and the other party can tear the contract apart if it wishes to. (There are usually clauses for that. Even without them it would be more or less possible from the legal point of view.) not entirely true...
this is what I heard from 1 of the buddy
user xxxxxxx is bannedáá
Last Login: 2006.01.15 12:39
Number of Visits: 172
Reason: Pending investigation of a hacking case
Ban lifted on: 2006.02.14
wonder if he can get some SP compensation if proof innocent.......
Whoa ! where is all this macro mining crap coming from! This extract clearly shows a months ban while they investigate HACKING!. If hes innocent no problem he'll be cleared in a month. If hes guilty then good riddance. If its beyond a doubt I hope the bugger gets jailed.
Lets face it the forums have been full of why aren't CCP doing anything about hacking. There you go, proof. Now they're being accused of being heavy handed. I prefer heavy handed when it comes to these issues.
This will be locked soon for discussing stuff we shouldn't. But in posting that up has given us all some hope that CCP are on the case.

ok, yes, if they put in other languages aswell. I for one am romanian and therefore I'd preffer my language there as surely a german, french, hungarian, russian, congolese, etc. would
if only chinese is added then I have to say no. it is not a world circulation language! and in this case they should learn a litle bit of english like every other player, at least to get by.

get your facts straight 'he said whole world' just because 1 bil chinese people (mainly in china) speak it, its not 'worldwide'....english granted might have 1/2 the speakers, but ill bet you you can go to 95% of the countries who have electricity and within 10 minutes find someone to speak english.

This is stupid. I wouldn't play a Korean MMORPG and expect them to give me support in English

Everyone who hacks, cheats, or breaks the EULA and then gets banned claims they are innocent. Attaching a server log or anything like that is not standard, so why should there be a special exception for your friends? CCP doesn't ban people at random. I would suggest that you socialize with a more legit group of people if your friends are getting banned. You mentioned ISK farming, so your friends were ISK farmers? CCP isn't going to just ban random Chinese people, if they ban them for macro mining/ebaying they were probably caught doing it.
I seem to recall a thread by you that spoke out against people who called your friends macro miners and ISK farmers. You said it wasn't right, yet now your friends are being banned for these things? Maybe the people who were making comments were right.
I think you should stick to being friends with players who play by the rules. Don't put yourself in a position where you're trying to defend cheaters, it's only going to ruin your reputation. Every cheater has a little brother who did it, or their account was hacked, or they didn't do it at all... EVERY cheater says this, and often every cheater has a gullible friend who will blindly claim the cheater's innocence.
I am absolutely not /signing this thread. No leniency or special treatment should be shown to cheaters. The process of banning and unbanning is good how it is, and if it's good for everyone else then it's good for your "friends" who have asked you to speak on their behalf. Personally I think you're shady. One thread scolding anyone who would call people in your chat channel macro miners/ISK farmers, and now another defending all those from your channel being banned? That is shady business my friend, and it makes me wonder if you're knowingly defending ISK farmers and macro miners.

Technically that's done by first language only. So doesnt count all the europeans, africans and asians who speak english as a second (or third etc) language.

This thread is stupid.
CCP bans macro'ers after an investigation that proves to game designers that macro's have been used, period. Just because they're your friends doesn't justify your argument to keep them in game. Don't like it? Move on, but don't make this about being Chinese or anything else.

Originally by: xaioguai BTW, shouldn't CCP attach server log in addition to just a plain reason when benning an account? After all, my petition for ship destruction never went through due to "there were no server problems registered at the time of this incident" So some proof that make you take the action to close an account will be really welcome.
Please read before post, I don't think I open the thread in Chinese and there is no where I ask for special exception for my in game buddies.
Now, I will make myself clear before you flame me further. IF CCP CAN ATTACH SOME SORT OF EVIDENTS IN ADDITION TO JUST PLAIN BANNING REASON IN THE FURTURE BANNING WILL BE APPRECIATED. IF NOT, THATS FINE WITH ME. that is in btw section and really not that important.

enlighten me which thread please, can't seem to remember.
I just check my post history, my oldest trackable post is dated on Dec 18, and yet its about ship and modules.

I'm not going to argue as to if this is a good or bad idea, but I will say this.
If CCP is going to go live with Serenity, what better way to train the staff who are going to police it than to deal with current Tranquilliy issues in their native language?

CCP is under no obligation whatsoever to give any sort of proof when banning, or even a reason. I think it says this in the EULA, which you and your friends would have had to agree to to play the game. :)
