Wait wait wait...
Warp tunnels are getting some work done too?
As one who probably gets more irritated by imperfections than impressed by new eye candy, I can say I'm very happy to hear that. I am well and truly tired of being reminded of mistakes every second warp. So excellent news. :)
I haven't seen the nebulae in game and was a bit hesitant with the kind of 80's-bible-illustrations feel of some of them. Plus I too am wondering how it will feel in game if the backdrop doesn't change at all for the whole region. I understand the reasons for that and even agree with them, but it doesn't surprise me either that people are saying not enough changing as they travel.
The decision to tie nebula backgrounds to locations in the universe is one I support, but obviously has the unfortunate result of hiding a huge percentage of all this new work from a huge percentage of the players, as the players who stick to high/lowsec only see maybe half of them.
I don't really have a suggestion to make around this matter since I agree with all the decisions that created it. I just hope than when I'm flying around on TQ, staying in one region as I largely do, I don't feel like things are being too samey. The sunlight in each system will still be different each jump, right?
Having said all that, despite some "biblical coffee table" looking nebulae I have to say I am quite satisfied and eye-candied-out. Some of them look just fantastic.

1. Changing backdrops by region is not granular enough. Seriously, it doesn't give any impression of travel across the vast reaches of space that regions are supposed to be.
2. I still can't see Ginnungagap from Korama. If you claim that it's easily visible from Korama, the least you could do would be to actually make the damn thing visible from Korama.
They're pretty but we need a bigger sense of motion between systems. I definitely agree with this. I'm sure some effort will be made to increase granularity in the future. |

Really good job I think. The new nebulas look stunning, except the blue/white one that kind of hurt my eyes when I was in it. Anyways, as someone already suggested, next thing you should look at (summer 2012) is to make the sun shrink and grow with distance. Now all that remains is for you to make it so, that the star significantly dims when you get further away from it within a system. I'd like to feel that I'm flying inside an actual star system at great speeds and moving large distances, instead of moving within a small room with a single static lightbulb in the middle of it. Before I go any further I would like to say that already Eve looks like the best looking and most beautiful MMO I have played thus far, It also plays very well for such a detailed game even on my macbook. However I think it also needs these things to transcend mere beauty: +Binary stars +Trinary Stars +Dwarf Stars +Nova +Black Holes and Pulsars outside the Wormholes. +anything that breaks up the repetitiveness of this freak galaxy with all the single star systems. |

Not sure how widespread it is, but on Sisi in both Pakshi and Oursulaert there were parts of the sky that showed the inside corners of a cube. My character was distressed to find that the universe is just a big box. :-)
Other than that looked great. And checking from different regions you definitely get a sense of like "Oh that way must be Minmatar space and Caldari space is over there" from a particular region. |

if you are going to give us some better star map (like that one in DUST) can you make regions more apart from each other so that we have feeling of regions on map too... so that this transitions from one nebulae to next have more cartographic meaning? |

Could have been a good oportunity to make different systems affect your ship in different ways like in wormholes. After all a nebula is a big ball of gass and shooting a laser in a gas causes it to refract shortening it's range. could have been an opportunity to make different ships do better in different systems, not the blanket changes that are the WH.
Oh well another good opportunity gone, at least they look prety. |

Everyone complaining about CCP's decision to make the new backgrounds regional....
Have you considered that possibly CCP is just trying to motivate you to move around more than the 4-5 systems you visit now?
If you pull up your F10 map, go to Star Map, Stars, My Information, and tic "Systems I've visited" and all you see are a few yellow blobs.... then maybe you need to go see more of eve. |

accl wrote:First time posting. Perfect example of a normal highsec missioner and I need to point out the fact that 90% of the eyecandy in eve are the nebulas (you can't effectively mission zoomed in to your ship). Nebulas are where the immersion of space and the vastness of it come from. The current backgrounds only break immersion when you notice the color range fades in smooth areas (almost like 16bit windows color range). I checked out the new nebulas on sisi anticipating an increase in quality and a remedy to the current situation. Have to say that the picture I saw left me a bit (understatement) worried. A pilot doesn't even need to focus to have the distortions pop out of the background and break immersion. I don't think it's only on my pc (i7 & 560ti), noticed it on some of the screenshots here also. The square edges reminded me of minecraft graphics. Hard to describe. I'll put a link here with 8mb screenshot - should be clear to anyone watching in 1080p no zoom. You've done a fantastic job creating these new backdrops and hearing that the rendering was 2gb makes me feel like its all wasted because as you said the real ingame assets are a tiny 200mb. I dislike the font too - feels like the middle ages, like a medival font - not eve at all (and it's too big, the ui resize 90% does not work too, makes it too small). Will be sad to see the current font gone. Feel bad to post such a negative comment, but I hope you guys see my side of this - we all want the game to be immersive and futuristic. While you're at it, position stargates so we're not constantly running through planets. I think planets have more awe when you warp up close to them but just feel like posters when warping through them.

Not trolling. It could be that your gamma/brightness is set up incorrectly. My monitor is wled 1080p set up for adobe illustrator. You can't really see it from the imgur link (the 8mb was compressed down to 200kb or smth). Can someone take a look also, because if no one has noticed this maby it is smth with my setup.. I've cropped the screenshot and used coreldraw to not alter the quality, but colors are reduced to 24bit rgb (100% jpg, imgur shouldn't compress images that small.) It's visibe, but a bit blurred. http://imgur.com/LuLeu Here is also a cropped 32 bit cmyk, a sharp eye can see the squares - ingame it's much brighter and the whole image is like that: http://imageshack.us/f/254/unled5kq.jpg/

No, you're definitely correct about the image quality. There are compression artifacts. The devs have stated that they're working on fixing this issue.

After flying around more and more I am starting to see just how important it is to turn the gates in the appropriate direction. I don't know how difficult this would be, but it seems like the easiest way to pull this off would be to simply point them away from the sun. As far as I can tell all the gates are in the right spot in the solar system. What I mean by this is the local star, the stargate and the destination star are all in a straight line. It should be a simple matter of pointing the gate directly away from the sun and it will be lined up.
BTW, here are some really nice shots of the nebulae I took (from Friday):

As for the stuttering issue... a lot of people, myself included, are having this problem. Some things seem to mitigate the issue to some degree, but don't remove it entirely. Hopefully it'll get fixed in the next Singularity patch. |

One thing I strongly dislike, in the new Nebulae as well as with the current background graphics is, that space is suddenly colored lush-green when an incursion appears.
A local incursion warning is enough, there is no need to recolor space and from an immersion perspective, it makes no sense. |
