Edited by: Emmerich Steiner on 24/02/2006 08:30:44 A couple of tips so you don't mess up like I did :D
*You should build the parts in order of thier number and assemble them before your goto the next. When you do that, the constructions is almost self explaining... I attempted to build the 2nd part then I realized the first part is the vent thingy inside the front of the second part. And I attempted to jam the first part into the second, without success.
*Use the back of your exacto knife to lightly score all of the forld marks, and look carefully as there are quite a few that are in dark textured areas. This makes assymbly much easier, but if you printed on a laser jet or a solid ink printer you'll get white *****s where you fold. But a colored sharpy whill cover that up.
*If you can, extend the glue tabs past the ones in the pdf. Some of them are insuffcient if you print on a standard 8.5x11 paper.
*As smiffa said, use heavy paper or light card stock. Copier paper just wont hold up.
I'll try to post pictures of each part as I assemble them to help you guys out.

You Sir are a genius!
Question: would it be possible to use the template to create the same parts out of plastic sheet (as used in scratch modelling) and add a method of connecting them together? I can't see how to do the connections myself, but you are obviously good at this stuff.
Again, well done Sir.

Well thats fantastic - I need to give it a go.
Are you gonna give some other ships a go. I guess mini' ships are easyest to do cus of their flat surfaces, but i would lke to see more.

Tempest next please!! or maybe the phoon? Either way, please please keep them to scale, or at least give us the option to use A0 if needed :D -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net

woah... quite a response, though we were wanting stuff like this. Thanks for all the comments, I'll do some more, probably when I'm out mining or something...
As for modification, using plastics or anything I don't mind you using the plans that I've developed, but remember, it's CCP's model and textures. I'll never ask for either ISK or RL money for these things so if they're on sale anywhere (I've not heard from CCP since Kieron said "OK,post it!") then don't pay for em.
Originally by: moc1 Build and ship for isk?
Might consider it eventually, though shipping might be a pain in the rear. There should be a few models that are easily enough doable by everyone.
Originally by: Kanibal Damn it Smiffa, I was planing to do a rifter paper model too, you stole my project. Very Happy Just kidding, You were first fair and square, mine would be finished in like months with free time I have lately. Confused And you seem to be pro at paper modeling anyway.
Well I was planning to make some other models too but I was going to decide on next model by isk donations, I suggest you do it too cos I know it's quite time consuming work keeping you from playing. I just wonder if there is place for two in Eve modeling bussines Very Happy
Anyway can I ask what software you used? I got myself Pepakura Designer for unfolding and was wondering what 3d modeling software to use.
btw hint for others, the flat patterns are in pdf but you can print em to an image and edit a bit, so you can place corp logo somewhere on the hull or do some other modifications (custom vinyls or pink camo maybe Laughing), I suppose Smiffa don't mind about modding his work a bit but if he does forget I said anything.
Hehe, I wondered about this myself. It's been too many times I've had an idea and somebody else got there first. But please, feel free to do some - it's not like there's enough to go around!
Software was CorelDRAW to lay the stuff out and produce the PDFery and some generic translation & viewers so I could 'see' the model mesh and take screenies. I get to use some 3D CAD stuff too as part of work so I used that in places to check distances and stuff. The was the dodgiest part was looking at CCP's meshes to understand how stuff was put together (of course, before I posted here, I checked with Kieron).

Sorry about that one... It's all laid out on A4 paper. If I get chance, I'll lay some out on US-Letter.

I've never scratch-built from plastic sheet though its looked attractive in the past. This is pretty much the first attempt I've had at something like this too. Have to come clean and say I've got a few years of 3D mechanical CAD under my belt though.

I will do my level best.
Again, thanks for all the comments guys. I'll see what I can do over the weekend ---

WOW, just WOW!!!
Very well done and not before time too, look forward to your next project with eager anticipation, have printed this off on normal copier paper as thats all work have, but it'll do for a first attempt to play around with at work [beats working anyhow ;)]
Off to get sticky now and try to bodge this together with all the wrong tools and flimsy paper.
I may post the pic if I get it built, certainly won't look like yours I can guarantee, lol.

But i just have to give this guy kudos on doing this the result is stunning looking forward to more ships coming soonÖ

How did you make the Textures? Print screen from game?
What would your advice be if I wanted to make some models myself, how to keep it all in scale.. ? :) ---------------------------- Bathing in cold water is, just like hitting yourself in the head.... nice when you stop doing it. |
