I looked at the picture before I read the post, and I thought it was cast out of pewter or something. Pretty awesome. _________________________________________________________

You just KNOW that the staff at CCP are going to be making these. Hell, they might have someone who's a model builder in house, who's makeing a few of these in their off time. Maybe one per person.
We might get a screen shot one day of a few dozen of these "Flying" in the server room or something :) (Damn.. I just automatically thought of the Death Star trench run.. i'm a geek.) - - - - Q: Wheres the Search button on the forums? A: There isn't one. go here. www.eve-search.com

Smiffa, Your a genius, Can you tell us how you got the 3d model, the textures etc. Did you use any software to create the flat pattern. Please let us in on your secrets then ther may be more than one source of models appearing!

Hi, great looking model, Im going to try building it as soon as I can get access to a good colour printer and the right type of paper.
Just out of curiosity are you planning to make upgrades to allow for it to become a Jaguar or Wolf?
Also any plans to design weapons so it can be really correct?
Personally I would like to have the Jaguar version with T2 280's mounted :)

hi there,
i just started with the building - but i changed something - i tried to get me some thin copper and decided it was too expensive - bout 40 euro to build the ship
i took some special crystal clear plastic, perhaps it looks nice, if not i will paint it in good old rusty style - got the first part done, will add some pics tomorrow, need to make some
if you are going to build the ship with some kind of stuff being >5mm cut out some 3d looking stuff from the pattern, makes stuff easier and looky looky

come to think of it... Anybody can make these... of any ship he or she wants to :) Just grab the textures (get ccp's permission this time, gah) and print them out, and use them. Great thing about EVE models is they are UVW mapped correctly, which means you can easily find the seams :) ------------ Atlantis Earth Production Studios - Phoenix, Arizona - Las Vegas

/me will not be seen for another week or two. I'll be hunched over my desk scoring paper.
As for more models, it seems that most Gallente and Amarr ships are too curvy for this, but most Minnie and Caldari will work. I'll throw in a vote for the Raven, Scorpian, Kestral, and Vigil. I *think* these should be workable.
Also, I found a Typhoon model already online: http://swardraws.com/fotog/archives/2005/09/chain-outhouse02.jpg ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

rofl - looks very similar...
the too roundy stuff is possible to make with that crystal clear plastic i am using - can make it hot and bend it...
will try later - apoc should be quite ok

Think I found a problem in the US-Letter version. On sheet 3, part 6a has a white section overlapping some of the tabs on the top-left area. The A4 version looks correct. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

A little more detail? Are the models in the EVE directory? What program would you open them with?

CCP really should consider printing these and putting them into the E-ON magazine. They'd have the means to print these on heavier stock and stuff them in the poly bag the mag comes in, and they could print them at high resolutions, etc. Making Big Rocks into little rocks http://www.eve-files.com/media/corp/tcgs/jacsized.jpg

I can see people coming with these ships in the next fanfest with elastic bands for projectile turrets and water bombs for missiles :P, we have to give you credit, the lil old rifter isnt the easiest ship to model.
Im impressed, very well done. Me-thinks you should start an isk donation thingy going and the most isk you get for whichever ship class you should ultimatly do, you deserve the isk for the really good work. Kudos to you.

Originally by: Alanin i am going to make this model with some metal stuff - in shiny silver look...
Oh holy crap I just realized something...I wasn't really thinking about putting this together with paper...but if I could print this out, just to use the SHAPES, overlay it on a sheet of aluminum, and use THAT to cut it out aluminum plates... DAMN that would be cool!
I could leave it all aluminum, or cover it in paper...
Holy crap I totally need to get my hands on some aluminum sheeting now...
I was thinking of doing the same with plastic sheet. But then I realised the parts would be a slightly different shape? The paper template shapes the parts for folding. Or am I going mad?
I'm not sure what you mean by "slightly different shape", but if the paper version has places to fold it, I'm sure you could do the same by just cutting the metal, or who knows, if it's thin enough you can actually cut a groove into the metal and fold it.
Having done my fare share of sheet metal work for electronic projects...
You really need some basic sheet metal tools to do anything at all, and this kind of thing would be a chalange. You will have to take into account how thick your stock is when translating plans.
It would be hard to find alum stock thin enough... and that stuff is no fun any way. Tin would be perfect, and nice and thin.
Add in some epoxy and a butt load of time... it would look sweet.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned foam as, in model airplane foam. For those who are thrifty talk to your local meat market/butcher for the foam meat trays, same thing.

What about roofing flashing? It's aluminum, cheap (10$ or so for 12 feet x 12"), easy to bend, can cut with a pair of household scissors...
or, soda cans?
