Not sure on that one, would have to speak to Kieron/CCP to make sure they'd be happy with it. Instructions are kind of on the way/being thought about. Pretty busy atm so they'll be a while. If I get chance, I will post some more reference shots up.

I think I know the answer, but do you sit there clicking the refresh button or do you get the previously mentioned monkey to do it? ---

That's really cool! I guess Minmatar ships lend themselves the best to this because they're so jaggy.

I started building the rifter last night. I got one of the vent systems cutout and folded and was working on one of the vent wrappers (believe thats what the next part was).
I do have another request and I think this one might be pretty easy depending on your method of design and what format the working docs are in. Can you post PDFs of the layouts without the texture included? Its do difficult to see the fold lines with the dark textures. Last night I found it nearly impossible to see where the lines were on the printed copy. I'm curious if PDF would let you put the textures in as a layer that could be selectably disabled. I believe something like this would make it MUCH easier to build. Another possibility for the fold lines would be to extend them beyond the texture like architectural diagrams. If the lines continued onto the white area we could use them as reference points.
I ended up printing on some very thick paper I found in our copier room and used a Ricoh color laser to do the prints. The texture quailty is really high and the paper tickness seems like its perfect. I'm using an exacto to score the paper and so far its working out really well. I bought a cutting board from the local hobby shop and thats helping out alot as well. I bought a cheap see-thru ruler but that isn't working out well because I keep chunking it with the exacto.
I'll try to take pics during the build process for later reference.

I am done with the Rifter assembly. Took me quite some time, main reason was that I had slow drying glue only, so it was one line after the other. Second reason was that I had to change some of the layout while doing it, working with 200gsm paper with the sheets, I figured it was best to cut some of the glue on parts in the process while assembling and glue it right together using big blobs of glue. If I can throw one advice in: Don't print he middle section parts and the pipe stuff on the last sheet on that heavy paper, I'd say 100-120 gsm paper max or your folding will be inaccurate.
I am trying to find host for my step by step pictures and a how to soon to may help you all through the missing instructions.

Does anyone have high detail 3D models (CAD) of some of the ships? I'm looking for IGES or Parasolid or SolidWorks or similar.
I run a CNC workshop and would like to cut a model or 2 from a aluminium billet to see what they look like.

ah now I see, thanks miyau. :)
yup, I did ink the edges, was quite a task putting each piece together...
Score the lines, cut it out, ink the whole thing, test fit, glue, hold in place, go on to next piece. The most ink intensive part was the intake, since the entire thing was white on the inside. Had to use a sharpie and black out the whole thing.

7 and 8 are supposed to be on the inside. I realized that too late, now everything else is closed and I have no idea how to glue them in. I'll probably end up putting them like you did, even though it's not the way they are supposed to go.

Yea, I don't have a rifter myself (had to look at other ones in space to see where the damn stuff went) and that was the best I could do without instructions :( still looks cool, though.

Yep. I do have further plans for more models. Not saying which ones though...

Cheers! The donations aren't what you'd think, though I'm not complaining - I don't expect or want much back from this. The recognition is pretty darned cool.
Scale though, thats a different matter... I think I worked out using the excellent ship comparision chart thats been floating about that the Typhoon would be measured in feet. Titans, well you'd need your back yard...

I've replied before to the removing textures thing, but I'd tried to shy away from it, because of the need to protect the integrity of CCP's ship designs (unless of course anyone with authority says otherwise). This reason is compelling though - I think I'll look at removing some of the lines (they're not really needed) to reduce complexity and then extend some of them outside the shapes. Thanks for the suggestion!
On your wiki idea, thats going to be a great help, I'll evemail you as soon as I get back to a PC that runs EVE better than this one..

22a & b are dogs of parts. I really need to do something with them.

Thanks It holds together just fine without 22a/b, so I'm not too worried. The hardest parts for me were the lower front of the intakes and the engines.... so many folds. I would really like to see a model of the harpy, or the manticore. I always found them to be the staple ships of the caldari image. (probably due to the fact that they are the only ones which don't look ass end backwards )

You've got talent, kid.
I would seriously consider a career in the miniature design field. Games Workshop Ltd of the United Kingdom is always on the lookout for people with modeling abilities. They're based out of Nottingham and are constantly adding to the design studio team.
Secondly, perhaps the film industry could use someone of your talents. A studio like Industrial Lights and Magic or w/e they changed their name too, would certainly find your paper models interesting.
Good luck my boy, you have many options ahead,
Koba

Stay away from Gamesworkshop, they are the devil and suck your money away!
You could make probably make more money from sculpting custom figures for warhammer/40k and selling them on ebay, you could make a decient amount from that on the side.

I'd be interested in this too as I had some problems creating the file. I actually thought it was the printer, so I'll look again.
