I'd like to see an Apoc. I think that would look great on a stand on my desk. I'm salivating for CCP to release models of their ships. If you do a paper Apoc (probably hard with th curves and antennae bits) I would totally love to get my hands on the layouts.

Fantastic! When I finish moving, I think I'll make a little fleet to hang in the EvE room.
I'd love to see a barge one - then I could have a fleet of barges too and pretend they're mining the lightbulb!

They used to make books with punch out/pre-scored shapes. They made cars, planes and spaceships that you would punch out and tab together part by part. Your printed page reminded me of them exactly.
Does anyone else remember these or am I just to old.

Wondering how you made the sheet to start with? Pulled the model out of the Stuff files? what format does it come in? _________________

Some of us are working on it but nobody's done yet. Progress is slow over here, I've only managed to complete the lower half of one engine and I'm working on its upper half now. ---------- |

Very spiff.
If you make a typhoon, I'm not sure I'll be able to prevent myself from giving it a balsa structure and putting a fan motor inside.

Hehe... I remember punch out dolls. They come with punch out dresses, skirts, handbags etc. You hang the dress on the punch out girl with the tabs.

Nope. I used to terrorize the girls by tearing the limbs and head off their punch out dolls.

Oh holy crap I just realized something...I wasn't really thinking about putting this together with paper...but if I could print this out, just to use the SHAPES, overlay it on a sheet of aluminum, and use THAT to cut it out aluminum plates... DAMN that would be cool!
I could leave it all aluminum, or cover it in paper...
Holy crap I totally need to get my hands on some aluminum sheeting now... -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

I was thinking of doing the same with plastic sheet. But then I realised the parts would be a slightly different shape? The paper template shapes the parts for folding. Or am I going mad?

I'm not sure what you mean by "slightly different shape", but if the paper version has places to fold it, I'm sure you could do the same by just cutting the metal, or who knows, if it's thin enough you can actually cut a groove into the metal and fold it. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

I reckon this would be doable with the paper shapes, provided that the material you use can be bent/folded along the fold lines indicated. Tabs, of course would be optional in this instance as you'd be able to butt the shape edges up to one another.
Having never modelled in this way, I'd be at a loss as to say how to do it. ---

I suspect that this folded-paper method is going to yield a LOT of Caldari and Minmatar ships, and VERY few Amarr and Gallente ships. Curves just don't suit themselves to this construction process. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk
