Hello everyone,
Lets do this up....tell the universe a neat trick and you may save or kill someones ship indirectly here at free will !
Tell us your Favorite EVE TRICK. The TRICK can be good or bad. The TRICK should not be a NOVEL or HUGE story.
Consider these "power tips beyond normal mechanical game play"
Example: Anchor a secure container at your favorite safe spot or hunting grounds. Fill it will Cap 800 boosters and orbit.
Example: Scout ahead with true coverts ops or fast fast frigate ships when moving battleships thru low sec or dangerous space to prevent priate gate ganks of expensive ships.
I will donate one "PURIFIER" AMAARIAN COVERT BOMBER ship and 10 Million ISK to the best trick and most valuable trick. One week from today.
what are your SECRETS from "your world" of EvE???
P.S. Please keep it constructive

Don't know if it qualifies as a "power tip", but one can rearrange the order of their module activation buttons in space, just by dragging them to the desired position.
I used to dock and re-fit a lot, before I learned that. _______

I want an option to lock them in place. My tendancy to run straight over them while clicking, along with a sticky mouse button means I constantly drag them instead of activating them ---------------------------

Edited by: SengH on 27/04/2006 18:42:27 if your flying a arty tempest do a look @ your target and double click the direction its moving in to manually align your ship. Guaranteed reduction in transversal and better hits(not recommended for pvp though).
Edit: Then theres the gang mod combo using ******, *****, ****** & ***** mods for large fleets resulting in increased ship survivability in fleets + killcount by ~ 30-50%(discounting lag situations) . Just ask ATUK and Delta.

Combat tips: The secure container one you already said. Nice for sniping setups in low sec, too. Ever wanted a sniper with a good tank? :D
Damage Control Modules. I used to say these weren't worth it on an armour tank but then I tested them. It turns out they don't get hit with the stacking penalty, making a good named one better than an adaptive nano II if you already have 2 hardeners that give the same resistances running like 2 adaptive nanos.
There are others but they are my secrets :). I can get a two-ship pair to tank 46k damage to two damage types per second. That's ten times more than a 10/10 complex will ever throw at you. To put that into perspective, I can tank a titan superweapon going off every SECOND and its guns. The support ship, of course, does not have that same luxuty but I'm sure I can work something out with a more moderate tank that could be solod.
Industrial tips: On POS, you can fit more onto those things than you think. If you station an alt there and replace some silos with two linked coupling arrays, they will hold 30 hours of product and you can use your alt to refill it from a corp array every day in a matter of minutes.
Some people think they're lowering costs if they mine minerals to make into things themselves. These people will sell their end product for less than the minerals cost just to beat the lowest price on the market. Know how much the minerals going into each item in eve are worth, buy them all up and refine them, then sell the minerals for instant profit.
In addition to scouting as you said before, you can simply have an alt with a shuttle do the job on the cheap when scouting for a hauler in 0.0. Have a fresh safespot in each system in between the two gates on your haul route and warp to it with the hauler, then cloak. You'll be undetectable and can sit there and outcamp the campers. When the system you're in and the next one ahead are empty, warp using instas and repeat. This is why the safespot must be mid-gate, it allows for using instas without problem. If your scout is destroyed by running into a bubble, it's just a shuttle and a pod (0 isk pod if you're using a crappy alt) that you lose but your hauler will always be 100% safe. Nothing else will stop a shuttle with instas.
There are more, I'll post them as I remember them.

Here's one,
Just to get the purifier.
-------
- Click the modules you want to activate as soon as you lock.
- You will notice the cross-hairs and the module flashing - waiting for activation.
- Target something that you cannot lock onto. (eg. A planet several AU away)
- You will see the ship trying to lock but fail
- Your cross-hairs are gone, but the module still flashes, and will activate as soon as you have a lock.
-------
Good luck. I have more, but I wont share.

A quick and dirty way to calculate your damage per second while in game (for inexperienced players):
Fit your ship up as you want it (guns, damage mods, etc.)
Right click your weapon on the fitting screen, and this will show the modified attributes of the weapon, taking skills, implants, etc into account.
Multiply the damage modifier by the damage of the ammo/crystal, then divide that by your rate of fire. This gives you the DPS of that gun alone. Simply multiply that by the number of weapons of that type you use, and voila, quick and dirty DPS calculation.

Want a cheap and effective way to move things in lowsec and 0.0?
Slap a couple nanofibers on a Probe and use instas, the only thing that can get you is a 3x SB stilleto or a bubble. --------------------------------------------- I hear Linux can cure cancer and raise your sperm count. - Dionysus Davinci

Mining 4 + Caldari Cruisers 4 + astrogeology 4 + Osprey + tech 2 mining lasers = better mining ship than the Retriever, and it's much faster and easier to get there than to train the mining barge. Only get the barge if you intend to mine ice, I say.

Pod Pet,
For the ultimate tamigotchi all u need is one gate camp and 1 pod, scrammble the pod but dont kill, keep for has long has u want. We done this once to a noob in p3, afterwards he said he loved it cause he never seen a gate camp in operation.
Or u could do what everyones fav swed did once and make people sing for there ships on ts.

In PVP: Check local and find a name of a person unfriendly to you and change your ship name to their's and a different ship then you fly.
Preferrably a neutral. Throws people off a bit.

Actually, my favourite one in that regard is having a shuttle with your name ("Nyphur's Shuttle") about 0.1AU from your safespot and then naming all of your ships that can't cloak something like "Leave at POS plz" and safespot. If they scan, they'll see your shuttle and assume it's you and ignore the ship that's supposedly at a POS. It's probably worked a few times for me.

Hard to right-click your rotating ship to open up the cargo hold while docked in a station and you simply don't want to switch to the ships-window? Just double-click anywhere in the background (ie not in a window or on the station services) and the cargo hold of your current ship will pop open!

Originally by: Vishnej The other is a more secret tactic that removes the need to make freighter runs at all, which lets you take 450k m3 from the farthest south system in the game to the farthest north system in the game safely in half an hour, with the help of alts.
As far as I'm aware, that one is an exploit. It's something like getting practically infinite cargo space in a carrier and anyone who does it should be banned.
