Hello everyone,
Lets do this up....tell the universe a neat trick and you may save or kill someones ship indirectly here at free will!
Tell us your Favorite EVE TRICK. The TRICK can be good or bad. The TRICK should not be a NOVEL or HUGE story.
Consider these "power tips beyond normal mechanical game play"
Example: Anchor a secure container at your favorite safe spot or hunting grounds. Fill it will Cap 800 boosters and orbit.
Example: Scout ahead with true coverts ops or fast fast frigate ships when moving battleships thru low sec or dangerous space to prevent priate gate ganks of expensive ships.
I will donate one "PURIFIER" AMAARIAN COVERT BOMBER ship and 10 Million ISK to the best trick and most valuable trick. One week from today.
what are your SECRETS from "your world" of EvE???
P.S. Please keep it constructive

Don't know if it qualifies as a "power tip", but one can rearrange the order of their module activation buttons in space, just by dragging them to the desired position.
I used to dock and re-fit a lot, before I learned that. _______

I want an option to lock them in place. My tendancy to run straight over them while clicking, along with a sticky mouse button means I constantly drag them instead of activating them ---------------------------

Edited by: SengH on 27/04/2006 18:42:27 if your flying a arty tempest do a look @ your target and double click the direction its moving in to manually align your ship. Guaranteed reduction in transversal and better hits(not recommended for pvp though).
Edit: Then theres the gang mod combo using ******, *****, ****** & ***** mods for large fleets resulting in increased ship survivability in fleets + killcount by ~ 30-50%(discounting lag situations) . Just ask ATUK and Delta.

Combat tips: The secure container one you already said. Nice for sniping setups in low sec, too. Ever wanted a sniper with a good tank? :D
Damage Control Modules. I used to say these weren't worth it on an armour tank but then I tested them. It turns out they don't get hit with the stacking penalty, making a good named one better than an adaptive nano II if you already have 2 hardeners that give the same resistances running like 2 adaptive nanos.
There are others but they are my secrets :). I can get a two-ship pair to tank 46k damage to two damage types per second. That's ten times more than a 10/10 complex will ever throw at you. To put that into perspective, I can tank a titan superweapon going off every SECOND and its guns. The support ship, of course, does not have that same luxuty but I'm sure I can work something out with a more moderate tank that could be solod.
Industrial tips: On POS, you can fit more onto those things than you think. If you station an alt there and replace some silos with two linked coupling arrays, they will hold 30 hours of product and you can use your alt to refill it from a corp array every day in a matter of minutes.
Some people think they're lowering costs if they mine minerals to make into things themselves. These people will sell their end product for less than the minerals cost just to beat the lowest price on the market. Know how much the minerals going into each item in eve are worth, buy them all up and refine them, then sell the minerals for instant profit.
In addition to scouting as you said before, you can simply have an alt with a shuttle do the job on the cheap when scouting for a hauler in 0.0. Have a fresh safespot in each system in between the two gates on your haul route and warp to it with the hauler, then cloak. You'll be undetectable and can sit there and outcamp the campers. When the system you're in and the next one ahead are empty, warp using instas and repeat. This is why the safespot must be mid-gate, it allows for using instas without problem. If your scout is destroyed by running into a bubble, it's just a shuttle and a pod (0 isk pod if you're using a crappy alt) that you lose but your hauler will always be 100% safe. Nothing else will stop a shuttle with instas.
There are more, I'll post them as I remember them.

Here's one,
Just to get the purifier.
-------
- Click the modules you want to activate as soon as you lock.
- You will notice the cross-hairs and the module flashing - waiting for activation.
- Target something that you cannot lock onto. (eg. A planet several AU away)
- You will see the ship trying to lock but fail
- Your cross-hairs are gone, but the module still flashes, and will activate as soon as you have a lock.
-------
Good luck. I have more, but I wont share.

A quick and dirty way to calculate your damage per second while in game (for inexperienced players):
Fit your ship up as you want it (guns, damage mods, etc.)
Right click your weapon on the fitting screen, and this will show the modified attributes of the weapon, taking skills, implants, etc into account.
Multiply the damage modifier by the damage of the ammo/crystal, then divide that by your rate of fire. This gives you the DPS of that gun alone. Simply multiply that by the number of weapons of that type you use, and voila, quick and dirty DPS calculation.

For the ultimate tamigotchi all u need is one gate camp and 1 pod, scrammble the pod but dont kill, keep for has long has u want. We done this once to a noob in p3, afterwards he said he loved it cause he never seen a gate camp in operation.
Or u could do what everyones fav swed did once and make people sing for there ships on ts.

Actually, my favourite one in that regard is having a shuttle with your name ("Nyphur's Shuttle") about 0.1AU from your safespot and then naming all of your ships that can't cloak something like "Leave at POS plz" and safespot. If they scan, they'll see your shuttle and assume it's you and ignore the ship that's supposedly at a POS. It's probably worked a few times for me.

Hard to right-click your rotating ship to open up the cargo hold while docked in a station and you simply don't want to switch to the ships-window? Just double-click anywhere in the background (ie not in a window or on the station services) and the cargo hold of your current ship will pop open!

Thats handy, when you say the damage of your ammo as most do two damage types do you add those two figures together, or just go by the highest figure?

Edited by: Wrayeth on 27/04/2006 22:41:52 When dealing with a skilled solo BS/HAC/command ship pilot who uses a covert ops alt with scan probes to scout, take a shiptype commonly used for NPCing and sit in a probe-able safespot in system, pretending to be AFK. When he busts your safespot and attacks your raven/apoc/whatever, imagine his surprise when you start scrambling him and firing back. Then imagine the look of chagrin on his face when your five buddies who were waiting on the gate in the next system jump in and warp to you (assuming you even need them at all).
This trick works by expecting your opponent to be competent at PvP and looking for kills.

Following on from that, if you've got a cluster of NPCs together on screen and can't visually seperate them, left click on one and hold for a second.
The UI will seperate them out and present you with a stack of ship icons, one above the other, then you can hold CTRL and left click as you go down the stack to quickly target your max amount of ships
I prefer to target this way than use the overview, as using the overview you can accidentally target enemies from different spawns and pull down too much aggro.

Do not waste your ISK on station ship repairs. 500,000 ISK for half armor repair? I don't think so. Buy a armor repairer for 50,000 ISK and do it yourself...for life!

When doing hard missions always fly towards a warpable object, so if you get in over your head, you can just right click warp. and insta warp out, even if you are webbed.
Alternately set autopilot to the next system over, and during the mission fly towards that gate, and just hit autopilot if needs be for the instant warp, provided your not scrambled of course.
For pvp I like to rename my t2 ships to the t1 version. Like a vagabond named Zanthe's Stabber, this will fool some people into thinking you are a weak target.
This is not really a trick: Use the scanner it is your friend. Aim your ship at the chosen object(so that if your looking at your ship from behind it overlaps the triangle, circle, square of a warp point) set angle to 5 or 10 degrees, set range and scan. -- A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over. Edited by: Obmud on 28/04/2006 02:30:02 Very very Handy:
If your drones get stuck in space like 60km away and you tell them to orbit you or return to the drone hangar and won't move you're screwed. It's a bug and they won't move at all no matter what order you give.
Easily solved. Jettison 1 item from your cargo, target the can that's appearing right next to your ship and tell the drones to "engage" they instantly will warp to you being able to scoop them to drone bay.
If your drones are far off fighting and you need to do an emergency warpout target something in front of you and tell the drones engage as well. They will go to you in front and with some luck you will warp right through them and scoop them to the drone bay automatically. -----------------------

When solo bubble camping (or with a small group) in 0.0, and you get say...a battleship target or bc that MAY have stabs (you can find this out by right clicking their ship, if there is no "Look at" option, they are currently outdoing your scramble)...
Ram them, then web them, as they start to align again turn off the web to increase the time it takes them to gain speed for warp. This gives you the max time possible for killing them.
For freighter escort duty: Have a ceptor web your friendly freighter before it warps toward the next gate as its aligning, this will make the freighter instawarp as the web for some reason only helps it warp faster. Useful for making escort duty faster.

You don't have to wait till you've undocked to set your Autopilot on. You can do it while still sitting in a station or while you are in the process of undocking. Useful if you want to just undock and go while you leave the computer, switch tasks or whatever.
Note: This requires that you use the keyboard shortcut to undock (I use Alt-A) as your HUD doesn't show up in the station. Also, it may cause problems when exiting those annoying stations that require some kind of room to move before autopiloting lest you play bumpety-bump with the station.

Usefulness of standard cloaks
requires 1x set of bookmarks 1x prototype cloaking device 1x hauler (fit expanders if you want, it will make no difference) 1x afterburner
Method:
when cloaked at gate (after a jump) immediatley align to next jump while simultaneously activiating your afterburner and cloak. count to 7-8 seconds, decloak and immedatley warp to bookmark. this leaves any attacker with a 1-2 second window for targetting = very hard to catch hauler :P

Edited by: mazzilliu on 28/04/2006 04:07:21 Edited by: mazzilliu on 28/04/2006 04:05:14 i can't get the double clicking on aurora's nose thing to work. maybe im doing the wrong tutorial??
anywyas,
using gate to gate instas safely if you must insta to a gate from a belt or station or something: in a system: gate A gate B and you must insta to gate A warp to gate B at 100KM, then use your gateB -> gateA insta. im pretty sure warp bubbles even if stationed at gate B do not reach 100KM out, and chances are nobody would anchor one that far out. 100KM in terms of astronomicalunits is very small, so you can use the insta safely.
MAKE instas 100% accurate given gate A and gate B and making a A->B insta:
take your ship 13km away from gate B, and align your ship so the icon for the A gate in space aligns with the icon for the B gate in space. if done properly your ship gate A and gate B will be all in a straight line. stargates are large enough so the random landing places in warp NEVER cause problems if the BM is set 13km back.
MAKE station instas: position yourself under or over the station so the station icon in space is right above your ship, try to get as close to the center as possible and set the BM. sone station shapes are strange so when you approach from different directions it may take you 2km or at worst 4km out, but its better then the alternative
trick to make drones work without using a targetting slot: useful if you dont have a ship that targets a lot, or you want your drones to mine a nearby roid and you dont want to. simply target it, tell your drones to do their dirty work, and unlock target. The drones stay there till the target pops.
use a material research slot even though all of them are full: you can queue jobs up after other people's, you don't have to camp them until they show up as empty. Also you apparently cannot start jobs at another station, it freezes and you must take the items to said station in order to use their assembly/research lines.
i heard of one on the forums here that was not posted on this thread yet, and im not sure if this is an exploit or not. if it IS then please moderate out the following: indestructible safespot- launch scan probes, warp to them, continue doing so to 150AU or so from any warpable object, so a hunter cannot find you unless they do the same thing, in your direction. im only posting this here because it hasnt been posted already, i dont have char skills for scanners yet and i need money :p
on another note, you can land on MOONS and PLANETS! Just make a shuttle approach a moon or planet of your choice(that is, double click in space, you can't issue an "approach" command) for about 1 and a half to 3 hours, depending on size of atmosphere and navigation skill level. eventually you'll get there. Too bad for you all you get is a surface that you can fly through and an invisible middle you can fly through all day. Not sure if this can be an effective way of making really safespots. Make a bookmark there and challenge a friend to "1v1 planetary flight battle!"
edit: hammaslamma got this one first the auto targetting trick also does not require you to try to target on a non-targettible object. at least for me simply clicking the missiles and turrets(they will start flashing, click again to stop) and then targetting afterwards works as well.
Attacking local fleet vessels and freighters will NOT get you concord'ed, but station sentries will attack you if they are in the same corp or faction.
trick with buy orders: you dont have to set a buy order significantly above another order. just .01 isk will do, if a player is selling an item and filling buy orders, the game will automatically pick the highest bid if the player's goods fit the requirements for location and amount. saves money for large volume orders
and finally, if your structure is too low to undock from a station and the station has no repair facility, you can relog to get unstuck.

Fighter drones a) always warp in at 15 and b) don't transmit their damage information to the mothership if they arn't on the same grid.
Thus, to easily kill someone's fighter drones, just warp to a safespot and cloak, and they'll just sit there. Then have a buddy snipe them off with a battleship or something.

This might be a bit of a time saver except that there are a lot of stations that will trap you if you try to warp to soon after undocking.

To insta-dock at a station:
1) Dock at the station normally. Undock and create a bookmark as soon as you exit the station, call it "instadock" or something. Also make a normal BM for the station (ie. right click on the station and hit "Bookmark this object". If it's a station that puts you some distance from the it when you exit fly back towards the station a bit first. Now go do your mission or pvp or travel or whatever.
2) To return to the station and instantly dock warp to your instadock BM but as soon as you can after hitting the "warp to at 15km" option right click in open space and select your normal station bookmark and hit "dock". You will get the "cannot do this in warp" error, ignore it. It takes some practice but if you get it fast enough you will warp right on top of the station and instantly dock
PvP tip:
ALWAYS rename your ships. If you leave your character name in the ship name then when your ship shows up on a scanner scan the scanning player can look up your name and your employment history and thus get an idea of how many skill points you might have, etc.

Maybe an old one, but good one, senior players told me about this one. Haulers, when hauling stuff from mining op or whatever, you can put Giant Secure Containers in your carghold. Giant secures have 3900m3 of space, but they are only 3000m3 in mass. So, if you have cargohold of 9000m, you can put 3 giants in your cargo, but you will have 3x3900m3 =11700m3 cargohold. When you approach container in space from which you are hauling, you simply have to open your cargohold, then open giant secure container in your cargohold and drag stuff in, as usual, then open second giant, then third and so on...

This shows how many of an item are bought and sold each day and tells you how much you can do it per day. Do it in a busy system like Jita or Rens. Trade skills help. Yes, but you also deactivate the modules when you do that. His way the modules are 'awaiting a lock' and will fire immediately (good tip, you got in before me on that one :))
Overview presets: You can save your overview settings. Especially of use is having a 'I want to leave now' preset with 'warpables' on it (only)
And a 'PvP' one, which hides gangmates/friendlies from your overview (so you're pretty much guaranteed not to lock and fire on them by accident.
When insta-ing to a station, if you select it _before_ hitting the insta, you will see the 'dock' button in the 'selected object' box. Engage the insta, and then click 'dock'. (You've got a few seconds to do this). It'll error, but still dock when you arrive.
When travelling on instas, hotkey your autopilot (you can hotkey almost anything, and it's a good idea) Turn on the autopilot in warp to jump 'as soon as you can' e.g. when you hit the gate. Turn it off when you get the 'autopilot jumping' message.
Carriers can hold more than you think. Check their ship maintenance bay. Then look at the stats of skiffs and procurers.
You can 'block open' cans in a hauler. I find it useful to 'stack' their windows with my cargo bay.
When hauling for a mining op, fit a tractor beam. When you've got a friend who's getting full, warp to them, tractor their can. If you need to make several trips, unless they move, you can continue to use them as an insta for that can. -- We are recruiting

This one is for teamspeak users:
In order to easily see who is talking in Teamspeak (TS) use a program like TSDisp.
You will need to run EVE in a window for this to work. You'll find it difficult to drag the window to the right position to make it look acceptable. However, using a program like ShiftWindow will allow you to position the window to look exactly the same as if you were running the client in fullscreen.
This also has the benefit of allowing you to alt/tab between programs quicker.
Running EVE in a window also allows you to run other programs (like notepad, firefox, quickfit, etc.) while still seeing the EVE client in the background. You can even hover your mouse over items in the EVE client and receive infomation, even though the client is not the active program. Of limited use to most, but I find it useful.

If you're moving as a gang, if you all align for warp together, and then the gangleader warps you, then you will all warp together, and match speeds with the slowest ship.
This a) keeps your convoy together, which is especially useful with freighters (stoopid 0.7AU/sec)
b) looks really really cool to have 50 ships in warp together.

my Tip: don't do this all the time. It means that when you lock the target, there is a little lag spike between them locking and your guns activating. If instead you wait until they are scrambled then activate mods you will catch them/hit them quicker. Takes a tiny bit more effort but I reckon it's a good trade-off.
Also, just right click in space, don't bother finding a planet to target or whatever

Due to the way eve uses both sound and video display, many people with certain hardware configurations will experience a lot of crashes using programs that overlay Teamspeak info, such as Teamspeak overlay. If you use these programs and start experience a lot of eve and/or teamspeak crashes, you'll likely have to uninstall the program and possibly eve/ts too, to get your game crash-free again.

That's really interesting. I always wondered why some ships didn't have the "look at" icon available on the overview. I often click around the overview to take a look at cool ships I can't afford!
That's surely got to be a bug though, as there's no logical reason to link stabs and "look at" together in the game.

It's not that stabs are linked to it. It's that you can't look at ships which are currently warping. If they are being scrambled, you will always be able to look at them.

Someone in BoB did this for me with my ship to show me how it worked. He did it at an NPC station in Period Basis (when we had access) that I didn't have docking rights at and never gave the ship back :/. At least it was only a vexor ^^;

You can tell if your target is trying to warp by doing a 'Look at' on them. If the option doesn't work it means they're currently alligning for warp which either means you have to put more scramblers on them or start ramming them. On the same note if you scramble someone and you see their speed decrease on the overview it means you've disrupted their attempt to warp and that they're screwed.
If your safespot is more than 3au from any celestial object you can do 3au 360 scans with your scanner without using overview settings. This will reveal scan probes which in turn tells you if someone is trying to bust your safespot or not. This doesn't work very well if your safespot is close to a celestial object as your scanner will be spammed by all the roids, belts, rats, cans, etc.
While cloaked always try to activate a module like a sensor booster or armor repper. If the mod activates it means your client might show that you are cloaked but the server (and thus everyone else) sees you as uncloaked. This bug doesn't happen often but it happens.
When positioning your interdictor on the center of a gate. Always ask someone else to check if you're actually near the center of the gate. Doing a lot of micro movements in and out a gate can easily un-sync your clients position with your actual position on the server. I've had situations where I appeared to be on the center of a gate while my actual position was 6km off! This is the same thing that happens when you move through a belt and bump off the rocks a lot (or even worse try to warp)

Works for most stations, from most angles... But station insta docks in empire can be > warp to station at 100km, find the sentry gun behind the station in alignment with you, warp to it at 60km. Been like that ever since stations became the giants they are.

Its true that if any pirate -5.0 enters 0.5 sec or above the faction for that region will shoot on you. This doesn't include concorde or the sentry's until you have aggro'd or killed a players ship.
Faction ships near gates respawn every 5 minutes and are apparently easier to kill than one may think.

Some camera control things which I hope aren't covered anywhere else:
If you don't have a mousewheel, hold both buttons to move camera in and out. Hold right mouse button to pivot camera (to look around without ship in center of view). After pivoting camera, while still holding right mouse button, hold left mouse button to zoom. This is handy for looking at what people outside looking range are doing. You can zoom a long (long) way in, but not any farther out than the default. As long as you hold the right mouse button you can alternate between pivot and zoom to look around with a huge amount of freedom. Ctrl+Tab will switch off all UI, again to switch it back on. PrntScrn to take a screenshot. ---------- Go here: http://www.student.ru.nl/martindevillers/tk8_outgame.html |

If you hold right click and move your cursor a bit, then hold down left click and move up and down you can zoom much closer then the other zoom. Down to the pixel. Try it and look at your guns, its fun. Thanks you all

My favorite is to hit closeup view watching pvp fights. The camera puts you right in the middle of the fight, like a passenger on the ship targeted. You can learn a lot about the tactics of a good pvper, by scoping out the action, and see mistakes. One of these days I'll put some of that knowhow into action, after I make enough money to afford the losses heh heh! If you can get it, revenge is sweet. The best recipes serve it cold. Ice cold.

Simply hold down the left hand CTRL key, then left click something in Space or in your Overview.
Hey presto!, you're locking that item.
Much quicker then Right click, lock target.
Much quicker to be Concorded in empire wars too. Imagine, F1-F8, ctrl-click on overview and "oh noes" and cant do a thing to cancel lock.
You can try deactivate the 'blinking' guns, before the targeting sequence is over and they fire.
If your missiles are on the way by mistake, you can stop them from dealing damage by starting a warp-sequence. When you go into warp, missiles don't do damage. Same while you are cloaked with your stealthbomber. But I don't know, if this way to 'cancel' your missile attack also helps avoid the concorde response.
I remember, that I killed a hauler can in one of our pvp gangs with two missile by mistake, because I had the cans in the overview. Later I thought, why the hell I didn't enter warp while/before my 2nd light missile was on the way. Instead of trying that I just though: 'omg, too late !'
P.S.: I have no clue, if using this trick to stop your own missiles from dealing damage is a feature or something bad and questionable.
P.P.S.: After I reading Jenny's latest posts, I think she gets more and more evil and since she doesn't use the Yoda speech anymore, I think the dark side finally got her. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

Buy a set of station containers. Outfit your ship for PvE. Click on "Strip fittings" to take all the modules off.
Rename a station container "PvE", and dump all of the stripped modules into it. Do NOT repackage them.
Outfit your ship for PvP. Rinse and repeat, strip your fitted modules, and dump them in a station container called "PvP".
Make N other ship configurations for different rat types, PvP engagements, etc. As many as you can afford, or cheap versions for quick PvP.
Now the good part: if you wish to fit your ship really quickly, open the station container with the configuration you want, dump the modules in your hangar.
Select them all, right-click, choose "Fit to ship". All modules get fitted at once. :)

This trick works by expecting your opponent to be competent at PvP and looking for kills.
-waves to Dr Screamm-
i have a nasty trick i have been planning. since the issue with log in tricks making you warp 1 million km to where you logged off at. what you do is go to a npc station in 0.0 and have one gang mate in a tanked out scambling ship. while you have 5-6 alliance/corp mates logged off in pvp ships in the station on ts with thier character selection screen up. the second a enemy undocks you start to attack/scramble them. the trick here is for 30 sec after they attack back they cant dock. so the second they attack back all your guys click their character and start to spam the exit station shortcut (i set mine as alt-d) sometimes people will undock several times to lets say test the water before they with aggress. after they agress back and you get your guys logged in you have 20-25 seconds that your enemy cant dock. even if they try to reverse it on you and have a few of thier mates jump into the system when you agress the lone guy you still have a few allies sitting in reserve they dont know about. a few weeks ago i used a alot less refines version of this and we killed a cyclone and got an enemy dominix to about 20% structure left with just a thorax as bait (which was lost btw) and 1 bs docked and me sitting in the next system over in a raven. i have not gotten a chance to test this out yet since i have been unable to log into eve for more then an hour or so for a week or two, but a way less refines attempt ( no ts ect). worked good. the main issue is you can only use this occationally before a particular group of enemies catch on.
ohh btw wrayeth long time no see.

Once you have multiple cans in your cargo, open cargo bay, Ctrl-A to select all, right-click one can, "open all", then merge all the open can windows into the cargo bay window. The merging only has to be done once.
You can now put items into the cans by dragging them to the open cans' tabbed window titles.
Easier than opening each can indidually.

At any station that you use often, undock in an interceptor, then without moving, manually align your ceptor so its in a straight line out from the undock point. Go in that direction and hit the MWD, go for about 1000 or 2000 kilometers and stop, bookmark the spot. Then go dock and undock again, as soon as you have loaded and can see things, warp to the bookmark, you will instantly warp away before anyone can even lock you. Even in a battleship. This is very useful if you are being camped and need to get out of the station, or if you have a fleet of yours in the station and you need to get into space and get ready to fight. Now, wheres my bomber?

What are you talking about? That's totally incorrect unless there is some bug I'm unaware of. Try reading the tracking guide: http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/g26.asp
I suspect you are trying to say that some guns have bad tracking so firing them at optimal range is not so "optimal"?

Well from my experience opt range is only optimal if its a stationary target or a large slow moving target. Once you factor in direction, speed, size, transversals, etc you'll find that you hit best (or plain just hit) at a range much farther out than opt range. Like at least twice your opt range.
I couldn't understand why I was missing so much at opt range, then I went out 1500m-4000m more and all of a sudden im hittin again.

Sure if you like your targets to warp directly too you whilst you sit still near a can. Don't say orbit the can as your tracking will be ****** and tanking a sniper, please...
Bosie.
u dont have to sit and orbit it with the advent of tractor beams, just lock it tow it along while in warp alignment to a ss, more than u can handle warps in, warp out ss, then change to second ss, cloak :)
That may just beat Canball in terms of tractor beams tricks.

"how to drop ships into a station"
for example - you have a lots of ships sitting in space (e.g. parked at a safespot/POS) ... now you could eject from your ship - board a parked one .. move it to the station - dock - undock in a shuttle .. rinse and repeat ... OR
you could use the following trick: board the parked ship ... jump on 15km to the station and click on the "dock" symbol in your overview ... right click on your ship and click on "eject" - now a message pops up (make sure it's not disabled before you do so) ... wait - when your ship is in docking range the "docking" over your neocom shows up (i think it's its name) click on yes in the "eject" pop up ... now you eject from you ship while it is towed into the station ... voila .. you're floating in your pod outside of the station and the ship is in your hangar ... ___________________

I don't understand, if the skiff's volume is creater than its cargo capacity, you'd be reducing the amount you can haul by filling your carrier with skiffs and filling their holds unless you're counting the volume taken up by the skiffs as part of the haul volume. So you can't really haul 450k m3 of stuff, can you? I don't get it.
well now you can transport it in your ship maintenance bay of your carrier/MS ... other tactics include iteron mk3 for example you can pack two iteron mk3 afaik in a carrier ... 500k m¦ ship maintenance - means an additional cargohold of about what? 20-30k m¦ .. using the skiff exploit (?) you can get an additional cargohold of [size of maintenance bay]*0,65 ___________________

Oh. Then that's just clever :D. Or maybe a bug with the ship maintenance bay. Ship maintenance hangers at POS don't let you store anything with stuff in the cargo bay in them.

Here's another one. Heavy Drones are quite stupid when it comes to attacking small targets as they tend to outrun their own turret tracking once they enter orbit. However they hit small targets fairly well on their approach with a sweet spot being at around 3000 meters. You can exploit this by repeatedly giving your drones 'attack' and 'return' commands at about 3000 meters from their target. This requires a bit of training but once you get the timing right you'll be able to dispatch those pesky frigates in no time.

Poor Man's Tritanium Freighter: Passive Targeter Is use only tritanium to make. Around 12k I think if you research it all the way up. 12k tritanium normally takes up 120m3 cargo space. However, passive targeters only take 5m3 cargo space. So with a bit of manufacturing and reprocessing, you can ship large amounts of tritanium in your standard industrial (24mil in a 10km3 indy).
This works best if you have Refinery Efficiency IV and Scrapmetal Processing II. You also need a factory in the station of origin, and good standing with the corp at the destination station, which ideally has a 50% reprocessor. You also need Production Efficiency V and a well researched BPO. However, any of these things, except the factory, can be given up and just accepted as an added cost of shipping.

If you regularly enter 0.0 from one point in Empire, avoid those gankings on the 0.0 side by having an alt, with clone, based in a station nearest the gate on the empire side.
Before entering the gate, warp through with your alt in their shuttle, if the gate is camped and they are preventing further warping you only loose your alt and they are returned to your station in empire with a nice replacement shuttle for next time.

Actually, it's far more useful to do this at gates. Get a fast ship (or covops, because this is liable to be in hostile space). Jump through the gate. Lock the gate, so you decloak, but without 'turning'. Kick your speed up to max, and fly >1000km from the gate (don't make it predictable - if you just use the minimum, chances are someone else has too).
Bookmark.
Now you have a warp away point, which you'll be aligned for when you jump into system. From experience, you always have the same alignment when you arrive in system.
For bonus points, hit your 'warp away point', warp back to the gate. Drop a can where you arrive (use a single rocket or a bookmark or something), and use that to align an insta. So you can warp to your warp away point, scan for bubbles, and then insta in on to the gate. -- We are recruiting

When in a fleet battle. Make sure that before you enter it, you press CTRL+SHIFT+E and CTRL+SHIFT+T. This will disable turret, sensor booster, and any other effects from ships which will GREATLY reduce lag issues. This option is not available for missiles tho :/
Cant remember if it was CTRL+SHIFT+T or CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+T, or just CTRL. try it out. the combination with T disables turret effects, the combination with E removes "all" effects.
This will be reset once you relog.

Someone has already touched on it earlier I think but its worth elaborating on.
Agent missions can be run again and again so long as you don't complete the mission by talking to the agent at the end.
This is particularly useful when you get 'good' mission where the loot, bounties, drone minerals etc are wortha significant amount.
I've used this in the past on Infiltrated Outpost (L4) for drone minerals (a raven with heavy launchers for drone slaying swapping with one with seige launchers for the BS sized ones kills very quickly and can earn 30m an hour in minerals.
Some of the L4's use rats from the asteroid loot tables - Pirate Invasion, Pirate Slaughter etc. The serpentis versions of these drop loads of loot including having good chances of droppng named expanders.
To repeat the mission simple wait till after down time and the rats will all have respawned.

Edited by: Nyxus on 01/05/2006 14:32:19 Get a bubble and a small group of friends. Think about 8 or so. 2 should be battleships equipped with smartbombs. Go to within 1 or 2 jumps of a hugely hostile 0.0 system. Have 1 scout that is in or just outside hugely hostile system.
Blow up some people without using the bubble or smartbombs. Let some go. The idea here isn't to kill a bunch of people, but rather to be seen. This will cause a stir in the hostile system where they all say "Zomg baddies just outside! Lets get 100 ppl and pwn those 8 bastages!". Because most ppl are risk averse, they will bring small ships to scramble fast so they can get on the killmail and not risk much. Becuase they will bring 80+ people you are almost guaranteed to get the pilots with lots of implants who don't pvp much.
When your scout tells you that thier fleet is moving, fall back a gate and drop the bubble. Drop cans to get the cloakers that will be follwing you. Position both smartbombers so that thier fields overlap.
As enemy fleet warps in bomb everything. You will instapop almost all the tacklers, T1 Cruisers, and most HACS. Intys last 1 second or so and die so fast that they can't even align as they are taking damage as they decelerate from warp. You can kill most untanked BS as well, and jammers won't help them. Have your 6 friendly's mop up anything that gets out of range. My record so far is about 72 killmails in under 90 seconds.
Since the taclers almost all die and wake up in a cloning station, most times you can get your bombing BS out even when you are overrun. As most pilots have lemming-like qualities as long as you don't do this every day it works almost every time like a charm.
FYI - the board isn't static so if it's scrolled down a bit look for 35-R and note the times on the mails.

When mining, bookmark the roid you are going to mine, warp back to station and then back to your bookmark. Distribute the bookmark to your haulers.
When you create a bookmark to a gate, hover your mouse over the gate you just came from. Your bookmark should work for any other gate or celestial object that appears at the same spot as the gate you just came from.

Fed up of running out of space in your frigate when cleaning up a battlefield. ?
Cans spread all over the place, and would take you for ever to collect them all in a hauler ?
Fit a tractor to a fast frigate, warp in and drop a can from the frigate. Tractor it and drag it behind you, filling the can up as you move around.
Once you have collected all the seperate cans into one, warp back in with your large cargo space ship, and have only one can to pick up.
If in a deadspace area, remember to drag the can back to the warp in location...

i have a nasty trick i have been planning. since the issue with log in tricks making you warp 1 million km to where you logged off at. what you do is go to a npc station in 0.0 and have one gang mate in a tanked out scambling ship. while you have 5-6 alliance/corp mates logged off in pvp ships in the station on ts with thier character selection screen up. the second a enemy undocks you start to attack/scramble them. the trick here is for 30 sec after they attack back they cant dock. so the second they attack back all your guys click their character and start to spam the exit station shortcut (i set mine as alt-d) sometimes people will undock several times to lets say test the water before they with aggress. after they agress back and you get your guys logged in you have 20-25 seconds that your enemy cant dock. even if they try to reverse it on you and have a few of thier mates jump into the system when you agress the lone guy you still have a few allies sitting in reserve they dont know about. a few weeks ago i used a alot less refines version of this and we killed a cyclone and got an enemy dominix to about 20% structure left with just a thorax as bait (which was lost btw) and 1 bs docked and me sitting in the next system over in a raven. i have not gotten a chance to test this out yet since i have been unable to log into eve for more then an hour or so for a week or two, but a way less refines attempt ( no ts ect). worked good. the main issue is you can only use this occationally before a particular group of enemies catch on.
ohh btw wrayeth long time no see.
Meta-gaming sucks.
My own tip, so I'm not just flaming:
If you're in a covops/other ship with bad cap, and you want a quick safespot without having to warp to a warpable, drop a bookmark while in warp, and then warp back to it:
Select a warpable object in the system that's fairly far away, so it appears in the selected item part of the overview. Make sure you're not aligned to it. Spam the warp to button on the overview, while also hitting ctrl+space repeatedly, or whatever your stop ship shortcut is. This way you'll keep trying to warp there and stopping, which burns up cap very quickly, and once you start getting the warning message that you won't be able to make the warp in one jump, let the ship warp.
You'll end up part way along the trip to the object you've been trying to warp to, and you'll be in a quick and dirty safespot. By practicing how much cap you leave before warping, you can refine the distance you warp, which can be useful for getting close to other people's safespots quickly.

BEST looting tips EVER.
1) BM one can in each stage then finish mission and warp back to them.
2) Use a Exequror (gallante cruiser) loaded with 4 tractor beams and AB and looting becomes a snap. lvl 4 missions get looted in 5 to 10 min solo. it hase about 850m3 cargo so might need 2 trips on the big missions but still a heck of alot easier than the alternatives.
OR 3) with a buddy in a hauler use a Catalyst loaded with 8 tractor beams and drag all the cans to him.

I have not read all the replies, but if this has been said already, sorry.
To change ships in your hanger, just drag the ship you want into the hanger space and let go.
It is much faster then right clicking and using the menu to activate ship.

1-Sit at a border system between a remote region and a hub region. Heimatar or Derelik border of example
Buy in bulk, large buy orders are whatever the price you want. for example 50%
you will get hits. invest 10% in courier missions to centralize all the crap to the new region
Sell a lot more Rinse, repeat. 30-40% benefit per item. at least. all that with really common stuff
In a few words : big hubs are favorable to buyers, remote regions to sellers
2-Manufacturing and selling anything related to mining can lead an incredible benefit if you do it in lowsec (miners and haulers hate to travel through gates)
3-To make a maximum benefit dont aim at the highest "tier stuff" that will be bought/sold by old players
aim at the cruiser/BC class, that's where you'll find plenty of people who dont know the prices, or dont care (because the difference is cheap, even if a LARGE number in %) -

Out chaining battleships in 0.0? Collecting a lot of loot but no place to put it?
Fit a tractor beam and drop a can behind you and tow it around. Refresh it every hour or so.
When you're done chaining battleships, BM the can and come back with a hauler.

Agents, Concord, Customs, no one can scan INSIDE of a cargo can in your cargo hold. You will notice that if an agent asks for something for a mission, and that it is inside of a can, he can't get at it. You will also notice that if you undock with contraband while it is inside of the can, you will get no warning. And finally, if you try to run past customs officials with contraband inside of a can in your cargo hold, they will never detect it. As far as I know, this still works, and you can move drugs, illicit tags and almost everything around, except slaves, which cannot be put inside of cans.
The optimal distance for creating a bookmark to a gate is 11km, not 13km. Set your course to the system you want to create a bookmark rail to, and then after making one jump, set your course to the system you just came from. Then whenever you are in system, you will always have two gates highlighted yellow. Simply line them up and create a bookmark on the far side of each gate from the other gate, and name them gate to gate bookmarks. You now have an insta-rail from your origin system to your destination.
Decloaking distance is under 2000 meters. Jumping distance is under 2500 meters. Cloak your ship between 2000 and 2500 meters from the gate, and you can safely remain at the gate, invisible, and be able to insta jump the moment you need to, and best of all, most ships approaching the gate will jump before they come within decloaking range of your ship, especially if you are on the opposite side of all of the other gates in system.
Tap your MWD just before you cloak. You will be able to travel at the reduced 75% or 90% speed of the MWD during its last cycle and be able to escape those pesky gate camps while they search for you thinking that you are only going 50 to 100 meters a second. Be sure and travel in a direction they won't expect like up or down. Most people have Khan-like geometric strategy when searching for cloaked ships.
When searching for a cloaked ship, use a small frigate with at least one drone, and a MWD. At the very moment a ship decloaks at a gate select it in your overview before it recloaks (assuming its a cloaker). This will leave a line pointing directly at its last known position. MWD for one single cycle to about 15km in that direction. Once there, orbit your own drone at 1500 that you set manually in your overview. If you are MWDing, you and your drone will move around, covering a large space and possibly decloaking your target. Lock them as soon as you can once discovered.
To create the best safespot of all, learn to use Deep Space Probes with the highest skill level. Search for anything with it, and it will generally send you in 192 AU off in some random direction once found. Bookmark that location, and warp to another couple of locations found in the same way. Searching for Stations in systems with stations works best. Now you have safespots that only the best probes can discover, with luck.
Warp Disruption Spheres pull all targets out of warp at 19km from their center, regardless of the warp to distance, if you are warping directly to the gate or to a bookmark within their sphere of influence. Create a bookmark Far from the gate to use to scout.
When hunting for those pesky people who use 100km warp in points to scout a gate, create your own, warp to and from the gate five times, each time warping to the last bookmark 100km from it. Now you have bookmarks at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500km to the gate in line with another stargate. Do this several times with each gate / station in system, naming them relavite to what gate or station they are in line with, at whatever distance they are set from the gate. Now that you have all of the most common sniping / scouting positions bookmarked, warp to a close object and bookmark halfway in space, at around 5001-1,000,000 kilometers from the gate. Name this your nearby gate warpto safespot.

undock in a cepter with a MWD and nanofibers
When undocking do not hit anything other then max speed button and your MWD mod. this send you flying stright out of the station at max speed. Go afk for about 5 min and you will some 300km or more from the station. Once you are far enough from the station make a BM.
Edit: this works for ANY ships if made corectly
Go back and dock at the station and then undock once again, as soon as you screen comes back up from undocking, you are already doing max speed. Just warp to your new BM, and you insta warp from undocking avioding any station camps that might be on you.

I approve of this tip.
I can also tell you a lot about how it feels when you fit a sensor backup array instead of 1600mm plates on your t2 railmega to kill some smartbombing bs's in the system nextdoor (hey, there was a scorp there and we had a save warpin from a covops) and wind up in a chase then ends with getting smarbombed in a bubble and seeing your structure disappear just meters before you can warp out.
/me cries (again)
So close in fact that my pod was able to warp out and survive while the SB bs's were still (barely) alive.
I'm pretty sure that stint in 35- wouldn't have happened if the oss fleet didn't happen to start moving right before we did since you didn't look that prepared for the doom that was just one stargate away (ie, not aligned). Alas, it was a nice trick that works once, I was wondering who the sudden tactical genius was in your gang :).

Beat Ore thieves. Take all the best Ore.
answer......?
Tractor beam.
pull your can around with you, pick up all the fiery/pristine/dense by getting in miner range with your can on the tractor.
This will also defeat solo ore thieves that plan on BMing your can and dropping a hauler in because: [1] the can is moving. bookmark that! [2] they cannot open your can and set to warp at the same time, they have to steal THEN align. Can you say "scrambler"?
works very well as the hoarder that died very very slowly to my 4 light drones the other day can testify

If your modules are blinking and you start locking the wrong target, you can drag any module to a different slot to cancel all modules' activation, which would often be impossible to do separately for each module before acquiring lock. It might save you from getting concordokken'd.

I keep seeing the fallacy that there's an optimal distance for insta BM creation. No wonder many people land 3000m off somes gate.
The truth is each gate is different. For many, 11km and 13km are good choices. The fact is there are some for which it is 8km. Personally I don't use a particular distance. Instead I have a weapon fitted whose optimal range+falloff is exactly 15km.
With the tactical overlay on, this gives me a visual 15km range sphere.
If the edge of this sphere passes exactly through the centre of the gate (as marked by the little gate icon when selected), then distance is correct.

Edited by: Shiraz Merlot on 03/05/2006 00:29:28 Another insta BM manufacturer's tip:
In many systems, stargates are sufficiently near one another that bookmarks starting from there can simply be copied rather than having to make a new insta. It's faster and no less accurate, within reasonable bounds. How to tell if it's possible? Hit F11 and check the solar system map. (Note: this is misleading if apparently adjacent gates are a long way apart vertically, but that's rare). You should still test your new BMs, of course.

I am surprised I have not yet seen this posted.
-Use page 5 of the tracking guide to help you figure out your optimal range using different types of ammunition and gun specs. Enter the target's data where directed. This works best for npc'ing but can be helpful if you know what you're up against in PvP.
-Set the maintain distance function on your overview to your gun's optimal range and watch the transversal velocity of your target shrink. Wait to shoot when you are in optimal range of your guns and have the lowest transversal you can manage to acquire in your given situation. Change this distance according to the guns you are using. You hardly ever miss. Use your notepad to help you maintain the info on hand.
- In character info, click the notes tab. Store here a variety of information, especially intel like what the char has been seen flying. I like to excerpt the info from kill mails. Say "Blankman" was involved in the destruction of your ship and pod, and you've got kill rights. YOu don't necessarily want to save the mail so you excerpt when, where, what ship, weapons and corp the char was in when s/he aggressed against you. Use the Notes feature also to help you remember why someone was added to your buddy list.

Okay, I'm going to post around the rest of my HELP channel fiends just to prove that I really do know this game.
And now... for the BEST TRICK IN EVE:
(this is not cheating)
We all know that it SUCKS moving around massive quantities of things. So, let's say that you are flying a freighter and you are using instas. Well, instas are great and all, but the one thing nobody ever seems to think about are the TIMES THAT IT TAKES YOU TO WARP ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GATE!!
So, because freighters are big, slow behemoths of a ship, let's speed the transport up a little.
Make sure that if you're in Empire space a corp member is doing this for you.
Step 1) Have a ship with a webber fitted uncloak and activate the webber module so it is blinking
Step 2) Have the freighter uncloak and align to the next gate asap
Step 3) AS SOON as the freighter is aligned, WEB THE FREIGHTER and it will LAUNCH directly into warp.
Why?
Because when you reduce the ship's maximum velocity, for just a split second the ship hits it's maximum velocity then reduces to the reduced velocity.
Boom, instant freighter warp. _________ www.siigarikitawa.com

Trick one: When fighting an opponent who totally outclasses you, Invite him to a gang r conversation once every few seconds. :D
Someone in BoB did this for me with my ship to show me how it worked. He did it at an NPC station in Period Basis (when we had access) that I didn't have docking rights at and never gave the ship back :/. At least it was only a vexor ^^;
This makes no sense you know. NPC station and you had no docking rights? You gave him your ship?

That I belive is a exploit... atleast it where discussed with GM's or even Dev's that stated it as illegal. Quite possible even Bannable offence.

Thats why you need your Overview setup correctly. If you're fighting in Empire then the only ships visible should be war targets so you can never accidentally lock and shoot someone else. Similarly in 0.0 you shouldn't show allies in your Overview unless you're flying a remote rep support ship.

Unsure if its already been posted but what the hell.
If at all possible try this.
Initiate warp and as you are picking up speed switch missiles to T2 precision missiles.
Due to the penalty of these missiles they will reduce your max speed. If done correctly your current speed will actually be faster then your new max speed and you will insta warp.

Don't they take 10 seconds to load?

One is the use of logging as a tactic to make every freighter run completely safe. This is frowned upon by the serious players, but used by nearly all of them.
The other is a more secret tactic that removes the need to make freighter runs at all, which lets you take 450k m3 from the farthest south system in the game to the farthest north system in the game safely in half an hour, with the help of alts, at a cost of about 20mil. This has been tested, but not entered into the general knowledgebase yet, and I'll confirm it when it goes out.
Using a carrier for logistics. Dirt cheap.

Yes but its all about timing. Plus some ships take a damn long time to warp.
If you have it timed right it helps.
Only do this on the bigger ships.
Sometimes you have to start the switch before you start the warp.
Depends alot on skills and ship so this isn't for everyone. ------------------------------------------- Famous last words: "Hey kids, watch this!" |

When moving to a distant system in EVE, in an interceptor or any travel-friendly ship/setup, put your mwd in the top left slot or the F1-slot and put something heavy on your f1 button and go afk and eat or watch TV or something, in stead of sitting there using instas or mwd'ing every time you start approaching a gate.

I love this! I always wondered why my autopilot was so damn stupid and didn't automatically enage my MWD. I must have a cheap Enzer auto pilot.

Edited by: Martin Mckenna on 09/05/2006 08:15:32 just 1 thing before i say this one. i aint used it against an enemy pos. a corp member did this by mistake to his own
Take a small control tower in a hauler
Warp into a pos just before downtime(like 10 seconds before)
Jet the POS into space next to the other pos and warp back out
The POS will then go crazy trying to kill this control tower but the server shutdown will prevent this.
When the server reboots warp back to the pos and you will find that everything on the other pos is offline becuase the game gets confused what pos guns and things are meant to be on.
Btw ccp i think you guys should fix that one I sent a bug report in with it
edit: btw dont try this at home or i think it could be a ban

How to deal with prarie dogs:(Development credit goes to Cpt Pugwash)
Prarie Dog = someone who undocks, and repeatedly redocks trying to get a quick gank in, from the safety of the stations docking radius, very annoying and somewhat lame.
4 or 5 BATTLESHIPS, fitted for max damage and fast lock and a cloaking device. 1 Heavily tanked battlecruiser, or something similar that looks vulnerable but isn't actually "that" vulnerable. Time it so your target is docked and move your BSes to optimal of the stations exit dock, ensure evyerone is ganged(for gang targeting bonus) and cloak. bait is left outside the station.
Prarie dog undocks, sees an "easy gank" and opens fire, bait scrambles and tanks. Battleships uncloak, wait their cloak penalty time and proceed to waste the lamer :)
Primary requirement, enough firepower to kill your target within 20 seconds, as your target will stop firing so he can redock, as soon as you uncloak.
I like to think of myself as the chlorine in the gene pool.

As someone who has accidentally warped into enemy POSes before, part of your post is incorrect and the rest is most likely considered an exploit... Not blaming you as I understand you haven't done it, just warning others.
The enemy POS will shoot you before your client even loads 9 times out of 10 due to all the crap POS managers leave there, you won't have a chance to deploy the tower, and the tower doesn't deploy until you have selected a position anyways, by that time, your ship carrying the tower dies, and if the new tower survived, its in a can... As for warping out, counting on actually surviving the guns, a single POS warp scrambler knocks out most wcs setups
Edit: the only way I could see this working is if the managers for whatever reason have all their guns offline or no guns at all, or you aren't set to hostile, so the POS doesn't know to shoot.
I like to think of myself as the chlorine in the gene pool.

want to accept an escrow that is running out soon? cant accept or set an escrow from your corp 0.0 station? yes you can! right click on someones portrait in the "guests" part of the station and click "add bounty" but DO NOT PLACE A BOUNTY, this will bring up the missions screen and allow you to set and accept escrows from any station

When escourting a frieghter, have a corp member web him once alighned to jump, to reachers it's 3/4 full speed quicker so it warps out faster, odd but true :) _______________________________________________ How I feel about Eve: the love/hate-ometer:

hey hey,
I noticed a few of these tricks dont actuall work or are exploits . .
Couple of drone tips.
Warp in to the mission and let everythink with insta aggro lock you. this way you can save yourself trouble figuring out who has the group agression. NOW release your drones. they will not be target or aggro any of the groups.
Use drones as cannon fodder . . To help save your tank send your drones into attack first so they take the agression. this can give you vital minutes before you get targetted to sort any range issues out and to quickly remove the more hostile targets. Lights V's BS's can be hilarious as pretty much the BS cant actually kill light drones and ends up spinning in circles trying to track, follow the drones.
Drone overview. Open your drones in space hanger so you can see when they are taking damage.
If you want drones to survive longer. When your tank is running try to keep it under 90% full as CCP changed the rules with NPC targetting. NPC's will switch to easier targets. so as long as your in dying mode they will prefer to kill you rather than your drones.
Frig tip
When orbiting your target. Set orbit at 1km under optimum. Due to the eliptical nature of orbits you spend more time at optimum.

If you want to scan a gate and you're out of range (15AU) and there aren't any planets or belts within this distance of the gate to warp to, and you suspect a camper is at the gate, simply activate modules on your ship until you're low on cap (15% or so) then warp to the gate. You wont make it the whole way and you'll be within scanning distance of the gate, so you can check whether it's camped or not it perfect safety :) Has saved me a lot of money in 0.0 space. |

Doesn't look like anyone has said this so..
You can select all the junk in a loot can, secure can, inventory, cargo hold, whatever as long as it contains more then one item, by pressing control+A.
And drag all the stuff over to somewhere else, or repackage it, or sell it, or refine ir or.. you get get picture :)
