Originally by: Kata Dakini A quick and dirty way to calculate your damage per second while in game (for inexperienced players):
Fit your ship up as you want it (guns, damage mods, etc.)
Right click your weapon on the fitting screen, and this will show the modified attributes of the weapon, taking skills, implants, etc into account.
Multiply the damage modifier by the damage of the ammo/crystal, then divide that by your rate of fire. This gives you the DPS of that gun alone. Simply multiply that by the number of weapons of that type you use, and voila, quick and dirty DPS calculation.
Thats handy, when you say the damage of your ammo as most do two damage types do you add those two figures together, or just go by the highest figure?

Edited by: Wrayeth on 27/04/2006 22:41:52 When dealing with a skilled solo BS/HAC/command ship pilot who uses a covert ops alt with scan probes to scout, take a shiptype commonly used for NPCing and sit in a probe-able safespot in system, pretending to be AFK. When he busts your safespot and attacks your raven/apoc/whatever, imagine his surprise when you start scrambling him and firing back. Then imagine the look of chagrin on his face when your five buddies who were waiting on the gate in the next system jump in and warp to you (assuming you even need them at all).
This trick works by expecting your opponent to be competent at PvP and looking for kills.

My favourite trick, is fast targetting.
Simply hold down the left hand CTRL key, then left click something in Space or in your Overview.
Hey presto!, you're locking that item.
Much quicker then Right click, lock target.

Much quicker to be Concorded in empire wars too. Imagine, F1-F8, ctrl-click on overview and "oh noes" and cant do a thing to cancel lock. ----------------

Following on from that, if you've got a cluster of NPCs together on screen and can't visually seperate them, left click on one and hold for a second.
The UI will seperate them out and present you with a stack of ship icons, one above the other, then you can hold CTRL and left click as you go down the stack to quickly target your max amount of ships
I prefer to target this way than use the overview, as using the overview you can accidentally target enemies from different spawns and pull down too much aggro.

0.004s reaction times, anyone? xD
Well if you don't have insta-lock you get a few seconds to deactivate all aggressive modules. You'd better not have anything aggressive blinking on Ctrl-F6 and Alt-F8

Oh back on topic:
To heal a drone's shield, scoop it back to the drone bay.
To get a lazy drone that's switched off it's MWD 100m outside scoop range, set it to engage a target briefly, then return to drone bay again.

OK here's mine:
Do not waste your ISK on station ship repairs. 500,000 ISK for half armor repair? I don't think so. Buy a armor repairer for 50,000 ISK and do it yourself...for life!
Tired of lockin non hostile objects like cargo cans (though I've seen a picture that shows otherwise...) when you're in a complex full of Frigs buzzin about? Right click the overview object(s) and select remove from overview. Leave nothin but the hostiles you wanna target.
In the tutorial if you double click the A.I.'s nose she will giggle and say "Stop that! It tickles."

When doing hard missions always fly towards a warpable object, so if you get in over your head, you can just right click warp. and insta warp out, even if you are webbed.
Alternately set autopilot to the next system over, and during the mission fly towards that gate, and just hit autopilot if needs be for the instant warp, provided your not scrambled of course.
For pvp I like to rename my t2 ships to the t1 version. Like a vagabond named Zanthe's Stabber, this will fool some people into thinking you are a weak target.
This is not really a trick: Use the scanner it is your friend. Aim your ship at the chosen object(so that if your looking at your ship from behind it overlaps the triangle, circle, square of a warp point) set angle to 5 or 10 degrees, set range and scan. -- A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over. - Click the modules you want to activate as soon as you lock.
- You will notice the cross-hairs and the module flashing - waiting for activation.
- Target something that you cannot lock onto. (eg. A planet several AU away)
- You will see the ship trying to lock but fail
- Your cross-hairs are gone, but the module still flashes, and will activate as soon as you have a lock.

Edited by: Obmud on 28/04/2006 02:30:02 Very very Handy:
If your drones get stuck in space like 60km away and you tell them to orbit you or return to the drone hangar and won't move you're screwed. It's a bug and they won't move at all no matter what order you give.
Easily solved. Jettison 1 item from your cargo, target the can that's appearing right next to your ship and tell the drones to "engage" they instantly will warp to you being able to scoop them to drone bay.
If your drones are far off fighting and you need to do an emergency warpout target something in front of you and tell the drones engage as well. They will go to you in front and with some luck you will warp right through them and scoop them to the drone bay automatically. -----------------------

When solo bubble camping (or with a small group) in 0.0, and you get say...a battleship target or bc that MAY have stabs (you can find this out by right clicking their ship, if there is no "Look at" option, they are currently outdoing your scramble)...
Ram them, then web them, as they start to align again turn off the web to increase the time it takes them to gain speed for warp. This gives you the max time possible for killing them.
For freighter escort duty: Have a ceptor web your friendly freighter before it warps toward the next gate as its aligning, this will make the freighter instawarp as the web for some reason only helps it warp faster. Useful for making escort duty faster.

I forgot: When collecting loot that is far away, bookmark the can, warp out, then warp to the bookmark (doesn't work in deadspace of course!). Save alot of time!

You don't have to wait till you've undocked to set your Autopilot on. You can do it while still sitting in a station or while you are in the process of undocking. Useful if you want to just undock and go while you leave the computer, switch tasks or whatever.
Note: This requires that you use the keyboard shortcut to undock (I use Alt-A) as your HUD doesn't show up in the station. Also, it may cause problems when exiting those annoying stations that require some kind of room to move before autopiloting lest you play bumpety-bump with the station.

Drag a ship from your ships hanger into the main hanger to use it. Saves going down the right click menu to 'make active." Seems to get you in the ship faster too.

Usefulness of standard cloaks
requires 1x set of bookmarks 1x prototype cloaking device 1x hauler (fit expanders if you want, it will make no difference) 1x afterburner
Method:
when cloaked at gate (after a jump) immediatley align to next jump while simultaneously activiating your afterburner and cloak. count to 7-8 seconds, decloak and immedatley warp to bookmark. this leaves any attacker with a 1-2 second window for targetting = very hard to catch hauler :P
