My newest favorite thread!
Particularly this post:

Yes, the only way to go, if dust can be in the state of what the EVE Universe is truly about. It's delicate complexity, depth, scale and deep backstory and lore all this would never ever be accomplished in any way on a console (PS3, PS4). The complications, limitations and no freedom would eventually come even for PS4. Finally

I dont think its so much about Dust coming to PC thats pissing the players off over there so much as its the fact that CCP has flat out promised to deliver massive updates and fixes to the game and instead now chooses to move it to PC and leave them....in the dust ha puns...but either way I can understand their frustration, they have every right to be pissed. I didn't call all you QQs firing on the jita statue a bunch of whining babies or state "Still not caring" The sad fact is the eve community has never truly accepted the dust community and it is precisely BECAUSE its on PS3 and not PC. From our perspective...we are quite accustomed to CCP promising **** and screwing us over, but they aren't. Sooo with that being said, Im glad they are passionate about the situation.
All of you who are expecting legion to be pretty much a planetside version of EVE may be getting your hopes up though. We have seen CCP's trend in developing FPS games...taken Dust into consideration they are 0 for 1. I cant imagine that changing much simply because it is on a PC instead of console. To be honest, I really don't have high expectations for legion. Yeah it looks cool, but I doubt it will ever be what everyone is expecting it to be. Could be wrong, only time will tell. To be honest though I really didnt want a PC version. EVE was unique because it is the only game in this universe that does exist on PC, Dust was unique because it was the only game in this universe that existed on consoles. Now its just going to be two similar games on PC instead :/ kind of diminishes both games' uniqueness and it is or that very uniqueness that I fell in love with eve in the first place.
Legion is nothing more than a grandeous marketing campaign, over it free to play to everyone and if they dont play eve they see it and go ok, its on pc im already on pc so ill try it *cha-ching* ccp made a sale. Whereas if its just dust on ps3, a console player isnt going to go out and spend money for a computer to buy a game to play. I think CCP realized they would never be able to market EVE through a console and it is for that very reason alone they chose to switch to PC.
When you look at the massive sales for micro-trans they ran prior to fanfest for Dust, they really were trying to milk every dollar they could before dropping the bomb, that alone shows that CCP has lost touch with its playerbase and has becomes nothing more than a business hellbent on profit. Which is unusual considering EVE was never created for profit, it was originally designed to prove it could be and exist. CCP is walking a dangerous line here of looking as bad as Blizzard in terms of pure profit making over quality of game play. At least blizz GMs open a chat with you and discuss the issue...ive yet to get a live chat from a CCP GM haha |

Hi, I play eve a little, I'm not very good at it but I love the universe and love the idea of dust and of course playing it. For the past year I have been playing and really enjoying dust so I thought I might comment here about some of the reasons behind the waterfall of tears that is now the dust forums.
First and foremost they could have let us down a little easier, they went straight for the sucker punch to the nuts at the "dust" key note. They haven't given us any information about this at all, we (the dust community) were hopping for the best. We were looking for a lot of the stuff CCP had said would come (market, pve, vehicle parity etc) since we were all assuming the 10 year road map for dust was still in existence. Instead we were met with "hey here is all that stuff you wanted but in a completely different game! Also you need a PC...oh and your game is now dead. Thanks for coming!" Its pretty clear the shanghai team was working on this instead of working on dust, which hurts a lot if you were a dust merc hoping for this stuff for seven months and paid money to see it happen.
Character transfer: notice how they didn't mention anything? Imagine if all your progress in eve was threatened by the next expansion! We have been building skill points for Over a year and now it may have been for nothing...ouch... For those of you who don't know, you have to work for skill points in dust, its not passive (although you do get one skill point passively every 3 seconds) you have to grind for weeks to get something to lvl 4-5. Loosing a years worth of progress, and we are being told this at fan fest?! Da fak?!
Subscription? If they change it to a subscription model from the current F2P then we are talking about a 90-95% loss of the current dust playerbase. While there are only a few of us (3000 or so) that's pretty staggering. The general consensus is "I'm not giving CCP another F*****" dollar" and frankly I agree. I would be okay with a bundle, 15 bucks for eve AND legion per month but that's the only way.
Personally I hate shooters on PC, I hate the key board and mouse controls and the internet community (tf2, need I say more?) I hate how some people have better rigs than others so it runs better for them while others have to struggle just to move. I think it would be much better on a console, not the ps3 but the ps4. A lot of mercs were looking into gettingba next gen console anyway, which is much much cheaper than building or buying a good rig to run legion.
This is the key note of why a lot of dust mercs are hurt, I know I am, and why a lot of us feel used and empty inside. Dust is an amazing game and a lot of mercs will have trouble finding one as good. For now it looks like they are moving on to destiny and the devision, it seems they are now completely put off of CCP and will spread that to the console community. CCP seems to have burned the Sony bridge and console bridge in one swoop. |

Developers who delete feedback are usually scammers. And when i think back to the recent Plex sales and options to use them i believe something fishy is going on in eve.
Think about what happend with dust: -they get motivated to spend money and then a few months later they get screwed over HARD.
Whats happening in eve: -CCP motivates the community to buy plex which can be converted into AUR, additional trainain que etc. so that we can get the hands on the new ships which have beeing reskinned. Dont know about you guys but i feel worried that CCP could pull off another stunt like they did with Dust. |

Heh.
CCP finally realises "Eve players who own a PC" is a larger number than "Eve players who own a PS3"
If they don't change the core gameplay I still think it will flop; the game has serious issues. I will however give it a try. "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. >>>Start time 3:51am
I live by myself. I don't have many friends outside of my videogames, and Dust 514 is the one place I can truly call home. I can joke and have meaningful conversations with my corpmates. We are a closer family than my biological one ever was with me.
We are all low income, under 30k a year, and for the past 2 years we've been saving up whatever we could to get all 8 of us to the FanFest, and party at the top of the world. It was hard work, and it implied a lot of sacrifice, but we had finally achieved it. We paid for our fanfest tickets with plex, and made the necessary accommodations to go for the duration of the entire event.
Once our planes arrived, we met up at our hotel, checked in, and went out to visit the Eve Monument. We thought it was mostly a symbolic thing, because without Eve, there would be no Dust, so we went there to check it out. It was an interesting piece of abstract art.
On with the main event. Upon arriving, we saw a table with a large Dust poster on it, and quite a crowd around it. We got closer, and soon found ourselves talking with one of our competitor corporations. As it turns out, they had all been to the previous' year Fanfest, and they were telling us to expect great things, and to keep our spirits up. Surely, something great was going to come to Dust.
Once the keynote started, I remember telling the guy next to me that I was too excited to just sit, so i excused myself, and I went to the side of the meeting room, so i could stretch myself a bit. On with the keynote, and the bad powerpoint jokes, and the revelation that Dust was the founding blocks for Project Legion. My heart sunk. All of the excitement, all of my expectations, were swiftly crushed. Suddenly, I felt very awkward in that room, so I walked out. I wondered outside of the complex for about 30 minutes, and once I went back in, I found the rest of my crew. I could tell from their faces that the news were not great. We met up with the guys from the other corp, and they were equally saddened.
We have no desire to stay for the rest of the FanFest. What CCP has done to us, their loyal player base, is unforgivable. I am mostly hurt at the great deal of sacrifice us 8 put into coming here, to only be kicked down and tossed to the side. I will forever hate this company, and what they have just put me through.
All of the things I could've done, the vacations I could've taken, sacrificed in vain.
>>>End time 3:59
Come on guys.
I've never been to fanfest, and i havent touched dust in a year, so forgive any inaccuracies.... This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165 |

Crysis 1 looks better on PS3 then Dust/Legion does on PC. And i highly doubt that there will be enough players to fill all off the Eve universe battlefields. Just look at null sov as it is now, sure large alliances hold the biggest chunk of it but the population density is thinner then a piece of paper. And we still dont know about the buisness modell so far. What happends if Legion and Eve share the same subscription method and you can keep playing by buying plex? If that happends plex prices will explode beyond the 2bill mark. |

Eve is still very much a niche game, legion might be more mainstream, it might bring people to both games. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

Though i never played DUST (due to the fact that it-¦s PS3 only), i feel sorry for these guys.
If your beloved game gets somewhat dumped (though it has not officially been said that this is case, but come on CCP wont support a dead horse) its harsh and not that easy to take, but if you actually went to fanfest as a DUST player, excited for the keynote presentation and then get THAT much screwed over, its brutal imho.
I totally get the DUST guys, why they are upset and frustrated. I dont get all of those sad people here in this thread, who are enjoying those "delicous tears". What kind of a person do you have to be to enjoy the sheer disappointment of others. Its like enjoying to see the news when poor guys at a warzone are showed, suffering from the recent events. Its just pathetic and awful to enjoy this. You may come now with the only statement you have "LOLOL relax brah itz only a game..zomg!!". You are right about that. But those games are considered a hobby within the whole community and therefor costs real life money, real life time and brings up real life emotions and feelings. So basically your not just enjoying the delicous tears of a random anonym gamer you are not even remotely related to, you are enjoying the tears of a real person, with real emotions , real feelings and a real passion about his/her game who happens to be a part of the same community YOU are in.
Funny thing is, in this very thread some guys get offended when they are described as "neckbears living at their moms basement", but at the same time claiming Dust players are only stupid little kids that depend on their gradmas wallet to buy games, and then think they won that discussion with it. Pathetic.
Dont get me wrong (ofc some will for the reasons above), i really enjoy to see DUST/Legion coming to the PC where it should have been released in the first place, i just dont (and cant) enjoy how a part of our community gets treated at fanfest (and in general) by the devs and then even get mocked by another part of the community for beeing screwed over. |

IMO, they did the damage when they got into bed with a console company and then left EVE to rot.
They've canned projects before, and no doubt will again... but at least now we're going to see the merit of putting more of the EVE universe back on PC where, again IMO, it belongs.
YMMV.
