So with the new ability to be able to rig freighters, they will be able to cross the threshold of 1 million m3, and therefore be able to take packaged carriers and dreadnoughts into hisec. Has this been considered and will the rules relating to capital ships in hisec be changed? |

probably not, but if so, you still can't use carriers/dreads in hisec anyway (lest ye be cast off to the farthest reaches of the dronelands*)
*not really, but you do get thrown to lowsec. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Here's the link to the current rules regarding capitals in hisec, you could technically rat with them, assign fighters to ratters, etc, or in Chribba's case, mine with them. But assuming that they become much more available, there will be a large amount of people who are unaware of the current rules, and therefor break them.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=6372&find=unread
Edit: I'm assuming that since most that are in hisec are from CCP/GM mistakes, or are very old, and the rules are in place because of that fact. In keeping with the nature of the sandbox, I would think that if now anyone has the capability of moving a capital ship to hisec, that you should be able to do whatever you want with it. Either that, or increase the packaged volume of carriers and dreads to prevent them from being able to fit. |

they mentioned overhauling freighters in general, so it's safe to assume they're going to nerf freighter cargoholds so you can't get up over the 1million m3 mark with full cargohold rigs |

I would think so.
A Rhea at 367,969m3 base with skills at level 5 should be able to hit 577,497m3 with 3 Tech 2 Cargohold Optimization rigs. A Charon at 981,250m3 base will skills at level 5 should be at 1,539,991m3 with 3 Tech 2 Cargohold Optimization rigs.

I'd be really sad if that were the case. The increased cargo hold would offset a good chunk of the cost increase in jump fuel and keep null-sec flowing a lot more like it is now. |

A Rhea is a tech 2 ship, therefore it will only have 2 rig slots. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2427385 - TS, Mumble & Webhosting -áfor iskies! :3 |

The only way to prevent this is to increase the mass of carriers and dreadnoughts. So I think it's more likely that we see a nerf in cargo capacity, ie: rigging cargohold expanders will return you to pre-rig levels, but running anything else like hyperspacial or hull rigs will see you with less cargo space. I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week. |

Possible, but it could also mean that packaged dreads/carriers will be on the smuggling list that NPC navies scan for. Freighter wouldn't stand a chance on gate. Or they could just be flicking a switch that says 'if there's a packaged X capital in the hold, disallow gate jump.' The switch exists for capitals already, it could temporarily reclass the freighter to not be capable of making gate jumps into hi. Many possibilities. But an important question to get answered. |

as someone who has been against freighters getting rigs in the past, i am really interested in what they are going to do with this.
if current stats arent changed to compensate, u can get freighters with 60 - 70% increase in tank with the same capacity as now, and only a slight nerf to align.
or a 50 - 70% buff to capacity and a slight nerf to armour. so will JF's be carrying almost as much as T1 freighters can now?
its a big buff. one i didnt think freighters needed. nor did i think they needed a nerf if the stats are changed. And if its in response to freighters getting ganked by goons, it wont stop ppl ganking, and it wont stop ppl complaining on the forums when they get ganked. looking forward to the thread. Give 1 low slot to freighters to at least add a freaking DCU.

I have to call this into question. Cap ships in empire mesh a little too neatly with a lot of the other initiatives going forward.

Well, here's the thing, if players will be able to build, quote 'everything' and destroy, and again I quote 'everything' there's a practical limit on this in empire. Beating a large POS to death in high sec, for example, is simply impractical for all but the very largest battleship fleets.
Since POS use is likely to increase in Empire with the removal of the standing limitations and the buffs they're going to be getting to offset the changes in manufacturing and research, then there needs to be a logical way to PvP this.
In the old days, we'd work this sort of thing by blockaiding the system. However, with Warp to 0 and high sec's ban on bubbles, that's impossible. Unless a battleship fleet is extremely large, even putting a tanked large POS in reenforced mode is difficult at best, and likely to cost more in terms of ships that the POS itself costs if the POS is manned.
The only really logical way for PvP to happen here is to allow in dreadnoughts.

As the bright bulb that opened their mouth and created death stars in the first place, start having enough PvP around them, and you'll have death stars. Particularly if they've got a high value BPO locked in a lab they can't take out (thanks to Industry changes).

Well, like I said: If POS in highsec are going ot become more common, and the goal of Industry is to increase conflict, and thus, PvP, then cap ships in high sec is the logical step. There needs to be an effetive way for mid teir groups to kill deathstars without getting thier skulls bashed in in the process. Hell, I lost a med Domination POS a few years ago that I took the time to actually arm. Thing took down four times it's cost in battleships before it succumbed. |

Actually. on the note of caps in hisec.
Why not just disallow unpacking on capitals and allow them to be transported thru?
Anyone crazy enough to stuff a cap in a freighter and drag it through the main shipping areas deserves the balls of steel award anyways.
But if done this way it opens gates for cap movements from lower end groups that risk jumping in lowsec and also allow a capital market basis in hisec
(again, if you have balls of steel to transport a 1B+ ship in another low tanked/slow ship in the best ganking regions in EVE...)
All needed to be done is not allow unpacking of caps in hisec areas. "I swear there are more people complaining over "nullsecers complaining" then actual nullsec people complaining." |

Simply because the Rorqu already has 1.45M m-¦ volume, which indicates either that no freighter surpasses that number (so reduction in base cargo amount) or that the volume of the other capitals is going to be increased as well. So you won't be able to get your Rorqu into Jita regardless.

Which would fit perfectly into this expansion's theme of making Industrialists a whole lot more vulnerable to PVP than they already were before, as well as with Seagull's and other CCP dev's (sickening) mantra of destruction and conflict* they were banging on throughout yesterday's Keynote. So everything is fine and alright.

If I'm hearing this right, they'll most likely nerf the hold so that you can't get more cargo then you could before. Theyre now just giving you options to use.
It won't be as simple as customs - its perfectly possible to just blow a path through customs if you want.
If you look online you should be able to find the video of when people did that to get a jump freighter into jita packed with boosters. |

Check where they appear in the market bar - under capital ships, therefore the rigs should be capital sized.
It would be nice to allow people to bring the dreads and carriers packaged into hubs for sale. However CCP would have to make it so they cannot be used in combat. |

They did state that they would also "Rebalance" them in addition to giving them rigs.. so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what sort of insanity they bring forth.
With the increase in Fuel costs for Jump freighters, I can't really see them nerfing the cargo capacity as well.
The way I see it though, there's only a limited amount of the rigs you'll want to use for the freighters. Either increasing the align time, increasing cargo hold, or increasing the amount of hull (The amount of shield and armor on them are pretty much irrelevant).
In the end it'll be a contest between cargo capacity, align time and quickness or pure survivability in terms of EHP. Passive hull tanking will be a thing.
And I believe there may be a warp speed rig... but with how extremely slow they move, I don't know if using those would be worth it... |

What do rig slots on freighters mean?
It means that 75% of freighter pilots will fit cargo rigs.
20% will simply leave the ships unrigged.
1% will fit tank rigs.
4% will run to the forums and cry that they didn't get 10 lowslots and 40000 calibration points as well.
99% of freighters will still be gankable, many with fewer ships required to do so. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

99% of freighters will still be gankable, many with fewer ships required to do so. No way... I bet the number of unrigged freighters, especially in highsec, is more like 70%. People who can afford jump freighters typically use them. If they are flying a T1 freighter than the chances are a lot higher that's all they can afford, and cap rigs aren't cheap. 20% of jumpfreighter unrigged? probably less than that. 20% of freighters? Way more than that.

I hadn't heard about fuel use, but yah they are getting a cargo capacity nerf. 2 cap cargohold optimizations = slightly above the cargo capacity they have now. 3 cargo rigs bump it up to around 1.5 million m3 capacity @ V. With regards to fuel nerf... meh who cares? So it's more expensive to jump... if they nerfed jump range, that would be another matter.

yes and also, he didnt include Calibration costs.
T1 Capital Cargohold Optimization rigs takes 100 cal each T2 Capital Cargohold Optimization rigs takes 150 cal each
Most ships if not all have a set calibration at 400. so you will only be able to fit 2x Tech 2 and 1x Tech 1 Capital Cargohold Optimization rig on a regular Freigther.
Also for the No dreads, carriers and rorq's in HS. Thats easy to fix, they will just increase the repackaged m3 amount of the capitals, that way a freigther will not be able to carry them and aswell they should not take more m3 is storage arrays in POS's. Unless recently built, but they could just increase the repackaged m3 by the dubble and it wouldnt be to big issue. |

If ganking is so easy and profitable, why aren't there more people doing it? The amount of ganking is already quite low (compared to the numbers of freighters travelling), so there is really no need for more nerfs. (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) |

Besides, it would not even be a nerf to ganking, it would just be an incentive for more cooperation and more team work on their part. That's nice to have. |

Still eagerly awaiting a Featers & Ideas Discussion forum post with the details for upcoming freighter rigs. Since we have less than a month left before the planned deployment of 'Kronos'.
it would be great to know the plans for the T1 freighters and T2 Jump freighters regarding: - Number of rig slots per hull - Calibration Points available per hull - Likely planned freighter stat changes for balancing and the issue of packaged capital ships highsec. |

CCP Ytterbium, what size are the rigs for freighters going to be? |

I look at it from a single standpoint - They changed DD a while ago to only be able to hit capital sized vessels Freighter and Jump freighter, although do not require capital skill book to fly, they are both able to be DD'd. Based on that alone, I would say Capital rigs. If they do use large rigs, they may have to revisit the ability to DD them.
Orca has always and continues to use Large rigs, is not able to be DD'd and doesn't require capital skill to fly, so I assume that oen is safe and will stay large rigs. |

I would like to suggest the development of rigs able to specialize (give a bonus) to the cargo capacity depending on the stuff inside: like the Ephital cargo bonus for Planetary Resources.
For example, a rig giving 50% cargo bonus for minerals with a drawback of a malus of 50% with any other cargo.
This would allow specialized freighters to exist and allow more freedom for players. |

That'd be pretty cool. Though it might be easier to just have rigs that do specifically that, like ore bay rigs etc.

I dont mind being able to bring them into/through highsec via freighter, however, i would suggest maybe that they can not be assembled? |
