It's overrated crap and even illegal since you don't got the permission to release the song.(At least you don't mention it so I assume you didn't ask John.) It's a breach of copyright and you and CCP can get sewed by providing access to the song. |

Actually, so long as they are released for no profit, then remixes are perfectly legal. OCRemix had to go through this as well, and the end result is, so long as it is sufficiently altered from the source material so that you are not redistributing the original sound verbatim, Remixes may be distributed at will.
Additionally, however, CCP has no standing to sue for for distribution of the EVE soundtrack anyway... because the music is already available freely. Discounting the songs offered as direct downloads on the website, the entire soundtrack is available in the EVE client, which is itself a free download with no cost to the downloader involved. You "pay" for the client when you register an account, but thousands on thousands of clients have only gone through trials where they paid not a cent for the music, or anything else for that matter. They got the music for "free".
In short, EVE remixes are legal no matter how you look at it - even if you ignore Jon's tacit endorsement of this project.
Originally by: Kyoko Sakoda Not your favorite - isn't that a good reason to remix it?
I'm trying to figure out if that's a veiled insult. Well, what I mean is, Lost Wormhole is one of the songs I'm less fond of than others, and I'm unsure what could be done with it. That said, I look forward to giving the remix at least one turn on my headphones. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

It's not an insult at all, I'm just saying the less popular songs (and the songs Mr. Hallur hasn't already remixed or preformed live) are the ones that are probably most deserving of an update, even if the best ones sound even cooler with a little remixing ("It's Full Of Stars" for example, has an awesome drum remix ).
I'd like to see Below the Asteroids, Stellar Shadows, and Primordial Star Clouds remixed myself.

Other matters aside, why would anyone sue CCP over it? Or perhaps CCP would sue themselves?

Oh, I already know what to do with it... I just hope that it won't suck! It has to be at least as good as the previous one and it's going to take some work to get the right sound, ie. a non-sucky sound.

Where do I go for live EVE music? What's the number for the boxoffice?

Stellar Shadows... *gurgles from down on the floor*...
I've already worked out the notes for that, but I don't think I'd dare try to do something with it. It's too awesome for me to touch. Jon should post a high quality recording of it instead for us to worship.
I'd also love to remix "I Saw Your Ship", but again I don't think I could do it justice.

It's a good track. I agree with what was previously said, it's a bit too generic, could really use a more interesting beat.
I also agree the flutey thing makes it a little too happy, could you make this deeper or somthing?
Overall though, really pretty good.

As far as I know, the versions of "It's Full of Stars" and "Do You Know Where You Are?" on the EVE Music page are pre-recorded versions of the remixes that Jon Hallur performed live at the 2004 FanFest. He also performed at the 2005 FanFest, but I don't know what he played there. I don't think anyone has a recording of his work live on venue, but I could be wrong.

Now here we agree. My favorite track after Below the Asteroids. So dooooo eeeeet.
Also note that technically BTA has a remix already - the website version is the "slowmix." -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

Hehe Januchi I showed this to some of my RL friends that are a lot into that kind of music and they are all crazy about it :) You better use Jon's offer and keep doing them, if they are only half good as this one, it will be great.. Maybe just crazy Croatians love it, but yes it would be a hit here im sure of it :P Little bit of polishing and there you are. As i said...keep it up please

Yes, live
It wasn't bad. Nice guy and all. Loads of ccp staff and pilots all over the venue.
Please excuse my lack of enthusiasm for the performance, but I am more into the stuff that'd been presented in the Grand Rokk, and he didn't perform the tribal rock Minmatar songs so ... And we paid for the FanFest and the AirWaves Festival so we had a huge selection of concerts to visit all night long.
Maybe one day we're gonna hear more music, including the Minmatar stuff ingame and out here as remixes and remakes. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

But I'll make it poo and then the tide of public enthusiasm will become much less friendly and I'll be left at the end of it rocking back and forth in the corner of a dark and empty room, crying myself to sleep.
Perhaps I'll try something a little more ambitious if I first succeed with Lost Wormhole.

Sure John said he's ok with it. But he should have asked him before posting the mp3. Not to think of it is logical but could have gotten you into trouble. And since the UK law for copyright/music is quite stric nowadays (the link is hosted on a UK srv) John or another entity having the rights of that song could have demanded by court to take down the song and ask for compensation. Sure its to blaim to the wretched record label industry but for me it's every day reality. (Same goes for listening to crappy demos)
And if John would agree on having a remix contest it could be nice to see what comes up. |

If you've got nothing to say, why don't you bugger off and troll another thread. And it's "sued", not "sewed". Unless you think CCP will come after him with a needle and thread?
