Hi there!
As an adjunct to Soundwave's thread here, this thread is collecting specific improvements relating to the INVENTORY SYSTEM.
What, you may ask, is the inventory system precisely? It's your stuff, and things relating to doing stuff with your stuff!
More accurately, it's things in hangars and containers, and organizing your hangars and containers, and moving things around between hangars and containers. It's not the market or the assets window or S&I though, for example, important as those things are.
Rather, it's that stuff you do with your stuff every single day that's always a little more complicated than it really ought to be, and while each little speedbump is an extra second of work, it adds up to wasted man-years over time.
What I would very much like in this thread is the collective community to pool their brainpower and come up with a short list of small, targeted fixes. We might get to make ten small changes this round - if you make a huge list of stuff we might do something you don't care about instead of something you really do, and if you suggest major rewrites of entire systems we'll probably just ignore them
To give some examples, on the small end we might do something like adding an "auto-stack" option, while on the big end things like tabbed personal hangars in stations is about as complex as we're likely to manage this time around.
GIVE ME YOUR SMALL THINGS AND WE MAY FIX SOME OF THEM.
Thanks for your time! -Greyscale |

There was a post in a previous thread about having the meta number of the module where the tech 2/faction, etc. symbol is.
I thought that seemed like a good idea, would really make sorting stuff out a lot easier. |

As someone who lives in W-space, ship maintenance arrays are my biggest time-waster due to the loading time of a full SMA. (Bookmark cans were the biggest, but that fix is on SiSi \o/ ).
One solution might be to make them use the CHA system for storage, but that might be beyond the scale of a "small thing." Security issues aside (and there is a valid argument against making theft harder), having them use the CHA tabs might reduce the load times. |

Packaged items ?
What's the difference between a non-damaged, non-packaged item, and a packaged item ?
Actually, the question is "Why is there a packaged status for all items ? Is it a technical issue ? If yes, is it fixable ?"
Another quite important thing regarding inventory :
When it comes to tidying our stuff in separate containers (One for Mission loots, one for T2 stuff, one for faction stuff, one for ammo and so on), why is there a "locked" status ? I mean, It's my personal hangar, I don't see why I should unlock or lock my items in a container. This alone makes tidying with containers annoying :(
Also, this is a bug, you guys might want to fix it :
Let's say you have 20k fuel in your fuel bay (3k m3 fuel bay on a carrier, 20k fuel means it's full of fuel).
Since I don't use my carrier every now and then, I don't know if it's really a problem that occur often, but it happened to me twice already : When I try to create another stack of fuel (Let's say I want to split my 20k stack in two), it says something like "You can't because the destination container.....", basically, it says "It's full". But I just wanted to split 20k in two stacks of 10k :(
That, and a fix to used lasers, you know, the ones who are constantly filling up the upper part of your hangar...

* Filter by similar items search. Right click on Invuln II > Show Similar > Displays all invulnerability fields.
* Cans in corp hanger re-namable by people with the ability to take the can from that hanger. |

Often, when I try to move a single stack of things (for example ammo) from my hangar to my ship, the game also selects 3-4 adjacent tiles. When I abort the transfer, all of the selected tiles are moved to the bottom in the hangar inventory and I have to search them through all the items again, which makes me a sad panda. I don't know if the problem is eve-specific or maybe has something to do with my own computer. |

This. Or at the very least, the assets window separating ships from the rest of your junk.
Something else for the assets I've been wishing for years, is a way to label individual stations that tells me Station A is an ammo dump for this or that purpose, or I'm selling this or that mod here. In the past I used station cans for this purpose because they list at the top.

One of the recurring tasks I do is "collect loot".
Mission loot:
- I have a bunch of "good loot" that I want to sell - I have a bunch of "bad loot" that I want to reprocess
I'd like an easy way to tell those apart. The absolutely most awesomest thing would be a column in cans/hangars that shows the current market average for the item, but that's maybe a bit heavy on resources. The second best was how it used to work:
- I had a can with "bad loot" in it, in "icon" mode. - When I got new loot, I dropped it into the "bad loot" can. All the new loot showed up at the bottom of the list. - I hit "stack all". Of all the new loot items, those who already had a stack in the can were moved "up". At the bottom of the list, only those items of the "new stuff" remained that were truly new. - Then I could check the "truly new" stuff and put the expensive items into the "to sell" can, and leave the bad stuff in the old can. - If I want to reprocess, I can take everything out of the "bad loot" can except for 1 item per stack.
This was a very handy loot sorting procedure that got made obsolete by the "setification" (and the subsequent "sort-on-stack-all") of the inventory system. Something that helps with this would be really appreciated. :-)
Other ideas:
- Have the "search as you type" box also search group/category names - Make it possibly to "repair", "repackage" and "reprocess" inside cans - Make it possible to manage cans remotely: Look into them, search them, put stuff into them (like the remote "deliver to" option), take stuff out of them (this would actually be huge, we have a few offices just because we need regular remote usability for items, adding a lot of annoying "move stuff between offices" once or twice a week) - Make it possible to set can names in a corp hangar if you can take them out
Thanks for looking into this stuff :-) |

Yeah the code in charge of stacking stuff in hangars- specifically fuel hangars for capital ships or corp hangars for Orcas needs work. I don't know how often I try to drag stuff to a fuel/corp hangar only to be told that there's not enough room, and please pull out your calculator to do the math to figure out exactly how many items I'm allowed to move because the game is too lazy to do it for me. Also - restacking things in a nearly full hangar is a PITA. I realize you need code to prevent accidental duplication of items, etc, but as you approach the "full" limit of a hangar it no longer becomes possible to auto-stack things. |

Cool thread!
1) please fix the bugginess of all hangars with stacking and available volume, I get a lot of "not enough free volume available" errors when trying to do stack all or even manually transfer items from one pile to another
2) how about giving prop mods a size attribute? Like turrets; small, medium, large, xl.
3) would be great to repackage items inside GSCs.
Maybe useful to others, who knows: I currently keep my stuff sorted in named GSCs:
*** 01 HI *** *** 02 MED *** *** 03 LOW *** *** 04 AMMO *** *** 05 DRONES ***
...and so on, these names keep them on top of the hangar and sorted. In station I open the windows and arrange them sensibly, and the open positions are remembered. Imo this is quite handy and has advantages over hangar tabs like being able to open them simultaneuosly, and also move house easily and keeping stuff still sorted. |

I thought that seemed like a good idea, would really make sorting stuff out a lot easier.
If you set your sort function on your container panel to wear it shows just the name and info (Not the large or smaller sized icon options) you can right click the top where it says things like name, category, volume, ect... and you have the option of adding the meta number sort. So it will show the meta number that way.

Meta level shown on the icon. Pick another corner of the icon, small number inside a shape of some sort. Make it an option if you fear that it will confuse the nooblets.
Ship inventory (optionally) split into two dynamically changing (volume in m3) areas - ammo/scripts/charges and cargo. Sucks to always sort what I want out of my cargo and what I want to keep there. Or if that is too much of a hack, it could be taken even further...
Item/ship tagging - multi-select my "consumables" and tag them as such and the inventory window will then show these slightly differently / separates them from the rest ("untagged", misc cargo). Perhaps the "generic case" would be to give an ability to tag or group items and ships in cargo or in station hangar and then select between "all" and "grouped by tag" view of the inventory. Grouped by tag could be viewed either as tabbed view or as single window that is split into multiple groups with horizontal or vertical lines. A way to visually sort stuff inside inventory windows.
If expanded also to ships, would also make life much easier for alliance logistics with carriers - instead of renaming ships etc. for carrier hauling, the original owner could just tag each ship with same tag and then trade them to the carrier pilot. Stuff would then show in ship hangar sorted by the tags. No matter how he juggles and re-sorts them into full carrier loads to jump into destination, at the destination station they would all be nicely grouped by tag in the ship window and ready to be traded or dropped into personal hangars by the carrier pilot.
...because containers as they are now are just a huge pain in the ass for organizing items... AFAIK can't put ammo/scripts/charges into container in cargo because of multiple drawbacks, too much :effort: and lack of flexibility to keep a can in hold for "misc cargo", cans not working with unpackaged ships... etc...
Cans could this way to be delegated mostly for what they really are - way to store stuff out in space and way to do "secure storage" (passwords, locked containers etc.).
TLDR: Let me put post-it notes on my stuff and then use those for sorting/grouping

Blueprints. I don't want to have to waste several corps hangars to separate the bazillions BPOs/BPCs into different categories. Increased granularity of hangar divisions isn't a real solution either - but you wanted small and targeted. If I'd want this done right, I'd pull the whole plumbing and re-think how BPO/BPCs management can be less clunky.
The other thing regarding blueprints are the lockdown options. Gods ... one at a time just kills you. Then do the reverse. Repeat again. This is specifically designed by hardcore CCP masochists for their fellow hardcore masochists players.
As for short and sweet fix for items management, an auto-stack and auto-repackage option when moving stuffs into storage would smoothen the operation greatly - leading to less clutter. My "storage" definition here are station containers. |

Add detailed tooltips to ships (most importantly the corporation hangar).
They should display data about the ship which is not directly acessible. Like insurance information, damaged modules, drone count, armor/structure damage and basically display things that change often and would either require opening the fitting window or a right click -> Show Info.
Right now, corporations with a lot of ships have some trouble to keep all their ships insured, properly equipped and non-damaged. |

What I would personally like to see is that when you try to drag and drop item/ship from your a ship cargohold to station delivery bay, the system recognizes the access restriction automatically and instead of giving a message (what requires clicking), places the item/ship either to your personal item- or ship hangar.
This improvement would allow to drag-drop stuff fast between ship and station storage, without concerns of what is the currently open station hangar window you have.
It's a small thing, though the less the annoying restrictions messages in station, the better. |

Tabbed personal hangars. Even unlimited number of tabs: as far as DB load goes, I don't see a difference between someone having 30 containers or 30 hangar tabs. In the latter case you don't even have to track 30 separate container items.
Automatically repackage and stack any undamaged item dropped into a hangar. Maybe make it an option for people who don't want it.
Allow us to fit ships we can't fly. It's always nicer to hand out fit ships to corpmates than just DIY packs.
Allow us to right-click > view contents of containers in the corporation assets window (it already works in personal assets).
Plastic wrap - a container which fits any volume of cargo, and takes up the same volume as the cargo contained within. Why? Organizing stacks of items in a freighter. Current workaround is to wrap the items in a courier contract.
Allow moving of assembled ships in a cargo hold. You can already do that using a courier contract.
Allow us to split stacks in a corporation deliveries bay. Currently trying to do so gives an error message. However you can do it by creating a contract, selecting only a part of the items, and then canceling the contract. Again, a needless workaround.
Show the volume column for courier contract packages.
Currently it's impossible to create an item exchange contract containing a courier contract package containing a cargo container. As this doesn't allow for an infinite inventory exploit, I don't know why is it impossible. It should be allowed.
Creating a contract containing both items and ships is currently glitchy. Select a few items in your hangar. Then hold CTRL and select a few ships. Both ships and items appear selected in the UI. Right-click one of them, and create a contract. However either only items or only ships actually get put in the contract (depending on which one you right-clicked).
Add a Check All / Uncheck All option when picking items when creating a contract (2nd screen of the contract wizard).
Allow accessing the content of containers in a Corporation Hangar Array.
Allow me to board a ship which is in a corporation office at a station by simply dragging it on the hangar view. Currently I get an error message "This item is not yours to take". I need to first drag it to my ships window, and then to the hangar.
Add a Give Item functionality (similar to Give Money) for transferring items between friends or alt characters. Maybe I don't have any contract slots left, or just don't want to relog a couple of times just to click Accept on a contract. To prevent abuse, maybe only allow me to give items to characters which have me in their contact list with positive standings.
Above and/or a shared items hangar between characters on the same account.
Create Unsecured Station Containers which don't have a password, locking functionality, etc, but can be repackaged and sold at any time (without having to wait 3 weeks after last access).
Dragging stacks of items into a Silo is currently bugged (yes I have reported it a long time ago (in April or so), and it was confirmed as a bug). Drag a stack of items which exceeds the Silo's maximum volume from a CHA into the silo. Expected behavior: only a part of the stack is moved, enough to fill the Silo. This is how it works with all the other locations (ship cagros, containers...). However, observed behavior: I get an error message, no items get moved.
Another bug: Character A is in a ship with items in the cargo hold. A ejects. Character B boards the ship. B unloads the cargo to a CHA and loads a different set of items (e.g. unloads POS fuel, loads reaction products). B ejects and A boards the ship again. Now A can see both the fuel and the products in the cargohold, even if the total volume exceeds the cargo size. |

Or - better - introduce a variant of station containers / vaults / etc - that don't have the audit log feature. There are already non-secure containers for the smaller sizes (except there's no "giant" variant).
(There are big reasons why you don't want secure containers with audit logs to be repackaged before that 3 weeks is up. It makes it harder for a thief to cover their tracks.) |

Most of my stories are about cans, and the issues of working with them. I use them to organize my stuff, but there are consequences to doing so, consequences that can be fixed.
- Anything you can do with a item that is not in a can, you can do with that item when it is in a can, such as assemble, reprocess and repackage. - When you recall a fit, cans are searched for the needed items. - When you recall a fit, items removed from the ship go back to the cans they came from. - A packaged can is smaller than when it is assembled and can go into a can. - If I know the password to a can, or none is set, there is no wait before the it can be repackaged, reprocessed, or sold. - A new type of can, say called a bag, is added that has no defined volume. Its simply as big as whats inside it. It can: -Do everything current cans can do (other than be smaller than the contents) - Hold assembled ships. - Be placed in another ship. - (These containers are similar to the box you get when doing a courier contract). - A job can be installed even if the bpo is in a can, and cans are searched for needed materials. - Every hangar and can has an "auto repackage" and "auto restack" option. I just had to toss my application support files, losing every setting in every account. Now all cans a are defaulting to locked. Please make "unlocked" default, or give us a server side option to remember our desired default preference.
And one non-can thing:
- The size of the item icon can be adjusted. CCP employees should never proclaim a feature to be awesome. Only subscribers should. Subscribers can never answer a question posed to CCP. Only CCP can. |

* searching in (sub) containers * stacking in full containers, * auto stacking and auto sorting, * stacking of BPC * and much much more possibilities for tabs on corp hangars as well as introducing the same on personal hangars (call it 'labeling' or something).
Additionally I want to bring you attention to the one thing I did not read in the thread:
As long we have no auto sorting and auto stacking in icon view: the view should scroll to the bottom, or at least to the first item moved into.
An last but not least: Make it so, that If you strip something from a ship that is in 100% health, just make it automatically packaged and stacked!
That would be so awesome!

I like the "plastic wrap" container idea. Larger container sizes, that are the same size inside as outside, both with and without the audit log feature are sorely needed. Something in the 20k m3 range, a 50k m3 range, and a 250k m3 range.
Containers larger then GSCs, however, should not be anchorable (except maybe in w-space or null).
(Note that we do currently have a "General Freight Container" - it holds 120k m3 - but there's no "secure" version of it with an audit log.)

Perphaps a 'ship pack'
Basically similar to a saved fitting but its a pack that actually contains all the mods, ammo, drone etc and the ship.
Maintains the packed size of everything and is stackable for better corp hanger views (saves having 100s of individual assembled ships)
When you right click assemble, it assembles the ship and then fits it.
Corp hanger audit logs would also be nice.

My biggest issue with my 'stuff' is the ability to manage it. I get so tired of 'searching' for everything. I would rather just sort them into their own tabs or sections. Let me rename them, let me move them, let me quip and fit from them.
The next step beyond that would be FILTERS!!!!!!!!!!!! Give us the ability (With tabbed station setup), to set filters to different types of items. Like all AMMO, when dropped onto the station, will go into my personal ammo tab (that I created a filter for). Or all faction fits go to a faction tab (depending upon how I setup my filter).
Let my filters allow me to pick between item type, faction, module slot, extinguishable (ammo/crystals), or even custom filters which search by name. Looking for a Corp?Triton Research |

partly copyed from my reply in soundwave's post
1. Please remove the 'repackage' operation before stacking items. Make it automatic and invisible to players. The only reason you repackage an item is to stack it, making player do the additional step 'repackage' is pointless.
2. Improve the Icon display that we can easily distinct a damaged items, make BPO look different from BPC, as well as display damage type indicater on related item icons like armor hardener or ammos
3. It can get very cumbersome when you try to sell hundreds of types of items, like mission loots. This window will make that 100 times faster and convenient.
4. Comparing to organizing inventory with containers, A FILTER SYSTEM will be way better when dealing with masses of items, which everyone does in EVE. Click some check box and filter your inventory display without even pressing enter will be awosome.please reference the filter system in Football Manager. For example, player change the filter setting to show only items of certain race/slot/type/hanger/tech level/meta between X and Y/damaged/certain tag or name/etc, and most important, filter items by their distance(jumps) from where character is, which means 'Assets' 'Ships' and 'Items' windows will be made in one: 'Items' window will become just a filter setting with 'distance between 0 and 0' . Different filter settings can be named, saved and dragged by players, and multiple settings can be fitted in the inventory window as 'tabs' just like in current overviews, you change the tab, different items appear and hide. What's more, this filter system can be adopted by the market window easily, and makes everything easier to find without remembering names or dealing with containers |

This would be amazing for lazy people such as myself and easier for people with lots of time to assemble fits and sell them.

- Tabbed hangars
- Buy all option for saved fittings, with price parameters.

Instead of just an icon grid, an optional tree structure like in the market browser would be awesome (where empty groups are hidden).
The icon grid view should allow custom folders to replace the 'misuse' of secured containers and items in these folders should allow actions on them as though they were in the root hanger. |

Most of it has been mentioned already, but instead of making it a quote festGǪ
-+ Personal hangar divisions similar to what you get in a corp. No further description needed, really. Hangar divisions are the ultimate sorting tools for assets, and while some of it can be done with freight cans and the like, it's not nearly as neat, and isn't supported by a large variety of asset interaction functions. For instance, the Fitting Window GÇ£assemble shipGÇ¥ function requires you to have a whole pile of stuff strewn over your hangar bay GÇö it would be neat if you could simply pick a hangar division where all the in-use (as opposed to GÇ£for saleGÇ¥ or GÇ£for deliveryGÇ¥) modules and ammo are picked up from.
-+ The ability for various Gǣsource/targetGǥ dropdowns (e.g. in the S&I interface) to not just use hangar divisions, but also to recognise containers and cans in your main hangar (granted, making this overlap with the above might be trickyGǪ make it a market-style tree view perhaps?).
-+ Reduce the Assets window to its old size. Over the years, it has been filled with more and more required fields and functionalities that, for some reason, must be visible at all time. As a result, the window has grown wider and wider over the same time, to the point where it will always be bulky and thus lose its neatness and quick-overview ability. This is more a matter of UI and window templates than of inventory management, but this is where it hurts the most (and fixing it for the Assets window will probably do the same for other windows with similar issues). Simply put, allow me to reduce the window width/height to less than what is required by all the components inside GÇö if something doesn't fit, who cares? That's my problem, not something you need to solve for me (in fact, it most likely isn't a problem, and I don't care if some elements aren't visible).
-+ Being able to open a remote asset collection from the asset window (or corp window) and have it appear like the normal, local, items/hangar view. The asset window's long list can quickly become very cumbersome when using various remote operations (e.g. setting up contracts or trades in remote stations), whereas having it as a normal item window would speed things up immensely.
-+ More logical GÇ£item groupsGÇ¥ GÇö if you try to sort by item type right now, you can get a thoroughly weird mix of items. Some very similar stuff is marked as completely different types, so when checking up on your POS fuel you can't just go down the list of the tower description (or, soon, the fuel pellet build list) because some stuff is classified as ice products, others as refined planetary material, others as advanced PI materialGǪ so the order isn't what you'd expect. Likewise, ammo gets sorted after pretty much the least helpful detail GÇö instead of having all my hybrid ammo in one long list, I get GÇ£Advanced Blaster ammoGÇ¥ then GÇ£Advanced Cruise MissilesGÇ¥ and then GÇ£Faction projectile ammoGÇ¥ and only then the rest of my GÇ£Hybrid AmmoGÇ¥. The sorting should be done by most common category first, which by the looks of it could be a matter of a simple name change (GÇ£Hybrid Ammo, Advanced BlasterGÇ¥ and GÇ£Missiles, Advanced CruiseGÇ¥ instead of the current names).
GǪoverall, the number of item categories could probably do with some cleaning up GÇö just look at the list used to create filters in the LP store or in contracts. They aren't always entirely explanatory, and/or have someGǪ interestingGǪ distinctions.
-+ On that note (and perhaps somewhat contradictory): more filtering options. Not just a search, but something that lets you hide or display broad categories of items, regardless of name. E.g. I want to see all GÇ£chargeGÇ¥ items (and not have stuff appear in the middle due to an unfortunate name, as would happen if you just used the sort-by-type method). Or, I want to see all highslot items but I want them in icon view (so I can't just go into list mode and sort by GÇ£slotGÇ¥ or whatever the column is called).
-+ Auto-repackaging of items (but probably not ships or containers) when trying to create stacks. Normal items have no GÇ£contentGÇ¥ that might spill out and ruin your neat floor when you repackage them (or, in the case of rigged ships, simply are destroyed). While I understand the need to separate the unpacked and repacked states to allow for singleton attributes such as item damage, there's no reason why the transition can't be made automatic GÇö an undamaged item should be stackable just like a normal repackaged one, since there is nothing to keep it from immediately being repackaged and then stacked. It just creates a needless extra step for the user.
Less about personal inventory, and more in the topic of GÇ£stuff that is in the inventory databaseGÇ¥:
-+ More immediately and obviously available preview. Yes, blingGǪ it used to be possible to just click on the omnipresent eye-icon anywhere it appeared in the market window to get a preview of the item (if one was available) GÇö now, it's far more inconsistent and, without that eye, far less clear when it is or isn't possible to do so. Maybe as a hover-over-the-icon button, or as yet another context menu item.
-+ More hyperlinking between items. When you look through the list of PI materials, you can trace back the source of that item to its component parts (something that could probably be simplified because there is a middle step between each product right now that is of questionable use), so why not do that for all items, and why not link all such lists to the standard GÇ£item actionGÇ¥ context menu? I.e. when I look at a Vexor, there should be a GÇ£created from [Vexor Blueprint]GÇ¥ notice somewhere, that I can click on and get the BPO info, or rclick on and check the market or contract forGǪ and when I the blueprint view, I can rclickGåÆbuy all the components needed. GÇöGÇöGÇö GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥ GÇö Karath Piki-á |

This. I'm also fine with having to pay for the ability to partition the hangar, if the cost serves some actual purpose from CCPs perspective. The key part is to move away from the container system when dealing with your hangars and move towards something less cumbersome and easier to manage.

It's been mentioned before, but it needs to be mentioned again and again until I have it:
FOLDERS!
I don't mean station containers that can lock and have their own window, I mean a client side folder, like in the market, where I can click the bar and the contents show up. The current list of 600 items is annoying to manage at best. When mixed with station containers, it becomes a nightmare.
Ideally, I'd like an auto filter option as well (like for your average email program) where everything in a hangar is automatically sorted nicely into the correct folders.
Building even further, I'd like said folders to function like the overview, so I can set up a folder/filter system and apply it to any station I want, with the capability to switch back and forth between different setups at will. As well, like the overview setup, make them client side: the server doesn't care what folders are present, just if there are any.
Some examples: - Imagine a folder labelled POS Fuel (before Fuel Blocks) where the only thing that shows up are the 8 ingredients no need to sort through specialized goods, general, refined goods, and ice products to find which ones you need. - I start a Courier mission. Instead of having to sort through my hangar to figure out whether the goods are Livestock, General, or Miscellaneous a nice new folder appears at the top of my inventory called "Mission Payload" with ONE stack that I need to haul off. - You need a new flight of drones for your domi since you had to GTFO, but you're still needed in the fight. Open the Thermal Drones folder and reload easily instead of accidentally grabbing hornets instead of hobgoblins. |

Suggestions
1. Make it optional to use the "search" include containers 2. Make it optional to use the "search" include ship's cargo bays 3. Make it possible to split your ship's cargo bay so I can use one part for ammo and one part for loot/salvage and the like 4. Same for your inventory at stations. 5. Make containers work like maps in your windows explorer. Much easier! 6. Same for ships. Make a view so I can click open their cargoholds 7. Make an option to search for just skillbooks, weapons and such, other than to type "ship" in the search field 8. An option to remember passwords on secure containers

Tabs that work like containers? or Configurable tabs that work like filters maybe?
Or at least an item category filter like the LP store has and contracts?
Items in cans unlocked by default!
Let us do the same filtering/tabbing etc for the ships in station. If I want to collect ships I can put them separately from the ships I fly, or if I manufacture ships I can put products separately from what I fly.
There are times you may not want to auto-stack items so maybe containers are better than filters.
And it would be nice if tabs are remembered on the server and not on the client! After reinstalling the game you don't want your crap all bunched together. |

Some more;
-When I try and sell a unpackaged, undamaged item that has no contents, it auto repackages before the sale. -I can split multiple stacks at once. That is select several stacks, shift drag the group, type in a number, and get that many units of every item selected in the new stacks. -If we get hangar tabs, there should be a flag that tells things like the fitting service and industry whether or not it should look in a given tab for stuff. That way I can set some areas as "off limits" to automatic processes. -There needs to be a search function that looks in the hangar tabs, cans, ship holds, and ship fitted modules. For when I cannot remember where I put that core-x module. CCP employees should never proclaim a feature to be awesome. Only subscribers should. Subscribers can never answer a question posed to CCP. Only CCP can. |

Might be overly complicated, but the ultimate would be like a Routing Container.
This container has configurable rules about where to route items transferred into it that match a rule.
Something like:
meta4 module -> some container mineral -> some other container Tritanium-> Player hangar Ship-> Corp Hanger(Division 1) salvage-> Corp Hangar(Division 2)->salvage container
Whatever doesn't match a rule, stays in the filter container. If it does match a rule, it sent to the target container.
Although at first blush the UI for this sounds horrific, it's not all that bad.
- Restrict rule creation to only select targets that exist at the time the rule is created. - re-orderable rule precedence - you can be rough about errors, just bail out on the whole transfer stack into the filter container on any error
Just an idea. Probably over complicated.
Right now what i have is a big ass container that called 'Junk' that I drop all loot/salvage/stuff in, and then once a week I go through it all and put it in correct classification containers.

I hate to say it but most of these ideas are only useful in very specific circumstances or usage patterns. For example tabs should be done like adding overview tabs with right click. It won't be 'forcing' if these tabs are totally customable, with their own name and filter setting just like in overview tabs.
It will be better if these 'tabs' can be split into different windows. I can have my equips in a window on the left and loots for sell on the right. |

Easy - Put empty cans into cans but only while in the hangar, or a "can can" in which only empty cans can be put, It'll help clear up some of the cluter. I am aware there is a recursion concern here, but if the "can for cans" is so big that it can not ever be put on a ship, then the in-space recursion shouldn't be a concern.
Harder to do - Allow us to color cans with RGB codes and/or allow us to lable them with something akin to the corp emblem interface. |

As I was just moving and not trying to stack, that is annoying HOWEVER some of the ideas in this thread will overcome this problem
I also want to go for the instant fit idea from a saved fitting. To expand on that, it would be good to also put parameters in to purchase needed mods/charges from the fitting and allow station/constellation/region purchases of needed items. My major annoyance bug that has been introduced with Incarna or so...
Jumping items in the item window when fitting one module to a ship. For another second it becomes impossible to fit another module, or you just fit the wrong module. This delay is horrible. It literally takes ages to fit a ship, when before it took 10 seconds.
Other annoyance, when you drag and drop items from one window to the other, the windows get locked up for seconds and become unusable, unless you want it to randomly select items, then you even have to reclick on whatever item you want to make sure 5 other items don't get selected as well.
These ones for me are the biggest issues that are really killing off convenience doing basic things. |

For the love of all that is holy, please, please, please stop station containers from defaulting to 'locked' and from reverting to 'locked' if I have to re-install Eve or play it from a different computer.
Also, tabbed inventory, or some way to organize would be great. Either that or let there be greater access to things in station containers. For example, rather than my having to have hundreds of bp's and all the minerals and materials sitting in a massive stack in my hangar, let me have them in a tab or container so that if I wanted to remotely start a production run I can, but when I dock I'm just seeing what I actually want to be looking at, rather than this mass of production stuff. That's just one example, but there are many others.
Edit: One other thing - Why must I wait 3 weeks to repackage a station container? Can we cut that out. Also, it seems that if you attempt to repackage it after, say, 2 weeks and 6 days, it resets the 3 week timer. This just seems unnecessary anad annoying. |

Most Important: Overall improvement in UI of the Inventory. I have about 300-400 items on my hanger floor, and when i try to sort, search or anything, the game freezes for about 10-30 seconds while it 'sorts' the icons or whatever its doing.
- Damage Icon in a corner or somemthing, to indicate an item is damaged
- Blueprints should have ML/PL/Runs displayed on the icon so i can easily tell apart each. I should also be able to sort by number of runs, or PL/ML levels.
- Harmonized Rightclick Menus. So i can Rightclick on an item anywhere, including contracts, and get the same 'search in contracts / search in market' options. Right now there is no ability to rightclick the items in Sell contracts, only Buy contracts. (You used to be able to do it in both)
- 'Sort By Type' Guns are seperated with missiles and for some reason Power Diagnostics and Overdrives are listed between the turrets as well. I know its alphabetically sorted, but it should be sorted by Type in that respect also... grouping all offensive modules, defensive, etc...
- Hanger Filtering - Let me filter modules based on slot size, PG usage, etc.

^^This and...
Some certain POS module and every station (regardless do they have corp office or not) should have special corporation hangar, where members could store their ships and cargo containers (not single items). They would have permission to take/access only their own items/ships by default, but some corporation role would give access to take/access all containers and some other corporation role would give access to take/access all ships in/from those special hangars. As a special feature any corp member could unlock their container/ship for "free to anyone to access/take" with right click menu. Removing container/ship from the hangar and putting it back would always lock the item for the current (sometimes new) owner again.
This would greatly improve possibilities for corp members to share/trade items in stations and improve the corp trader profession possibilities. It would also improve the POS security very great deal and take all those floating ships out from POS bubble by giving possibility for all corp members (even the new untrusted ones) to have access to some kind of ship/container storage facility inside the POS.
As a UI hint: In stations you could add another tab to corp market deliveries window and use that for the purpose mentioned above. That way people wouldn't lose any current screen estate.

Right click over an item should have options:
1. "Show in hangar" 2. "Show variations in hangar"
Example, you fit a ship and you have one Large Shield Extender II fitted. Want to fit another one, or maybe want to change it to meta t1 extender because of lacking CPU. In Fitting Screen, choosing over item "Show in hangar" or "Show variations in hangar" would filter hangar and show Large Shield Extender II, or all large shield extenders available in hangar.
Or when shopping in Market, this would show quickly if I have this item already or not.
So, this is about filtering stuff in hangar, based on item somewhere else. And why not by item located in hangar also, at least number 2. |

A tab or folder system instead of station containers.
A way to setup a folder/tab so that all incoming items goes to that folder. There is a problem currently on the items view that all stuff you are receiving for example from the market come to same location where you are trying to manage items. So when you try select multiple items the item list is cleared everytime you get a new item...
Allow fitting from continers(tabs/folders)
maximum number of items on a contract is a pita.
corp hangar cost way too much
allow stacking of identical BPC. there are zillion of them, everywhere, divided into dozen of containers. argh. <- bad bad game design here CCP
Also one huge wish that came into mind. This would help logistics every EVE player has to do and takes major time and effort. Allow setting up a folder/container/tab so that you can set count on items you wish there was on the location. For example you wanted to have 10-20 Warp Disruptors on the location allways. If the item count dropped below 10 then the system wuld automatically order more items so that the maximum number is reached, the item isn't ordered automatically but added to a list... you could then personally check the list and if there was enough stuff to be delivered you could deicide to order all those items with single press of a button. it would create a 'BUY and DELIVER' contract for them from maybe Jita to your location. |

One thing I'll add for tabbed hangar windows - give us the ability to apply 'filters', that is, when we drag new items into our hangars, they're automatically sorted how we want them. For example, say we had a tab for high/med/low slot modules. When we drag in a bunch of stuff, the modules go to their corresponding tab. Another awesome improvement would be to add in filters for say only T2 and Meta 4+, so all the crap goes elsewhere. Commanding Officer of the Treacle Tart Brigade SLAPD Director |

over a year ago i posted my version of an improvement wishlist. i think its time to revive that thread from archives, i got zero response to it. it contained lots of ideas for improvement, not just inventory related
Link: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1404401
Point 4 from my second post in the link above i believe is relevant here:
Quote:UI: Inventory: custom grouping like drone UI & "market tree" to find items, possibly across all assets.
This is actualy two ideas that is a bit similar first one is custom grouping of items in your hangar, similar to how you can group drones in your drone bay. This will allow you to not have to use containers that have their own issues sometimes (hard to view contents remotely, not practical in corp hangar in pos when corp hangar shared by multiple players)
the second idea is "view hangar with market tree" and this could be used for the science & industry window for the blueprint list too. its not fun to browse the blueprint list when you have thousands of blueprints
Tree should show all items below selected level and only show branches with items. for example lets say you click on ammunition & charges, what you see is all ammo you have. if you instead go to a lower leven in the tree like projectile ammo you only see those items. this would allow you to "filter" your items better.
this could be a new view in addition to the 3 existing ones (list, icons, details) how many have loads of items in their hangar? yes things have improved with the search feature.
something like theese two ideas is something i realy would like to see implemented. especialy for blueprints.
let me know if the explanation above is not clear enough, was thinking of doing screenshot and some copy/paste to better illustrate what i meant but never got around to it.

When you shift dragging a stack and drop it, it allows you to specify how much you want to put in the container. It doesn't work with multiple items. Make it so that if you are shift dragging a group of items, it will put x times that number of items in.
I.e.
I've shift dragged two stacks to my Badger MKII cargo. The stacks are 300k of Toxic Metals and Reactive Metals. When I release, I get the how much pop up and put 8000 in there. When I hit return, 2 stacks appear in the cargo hold of 8000 items, one of Toxic Metals, the other of Reactive Metals.

Let's think big and expand that to have the option of finding GÇ£similarGÇ¥ modules (obviously, this would require a complete rewrite and rethink of the item classifications, and thus I unilaterally label it a trivial matter and expect it on TQ by tuesday ).
What if you could rclick on an item and select GÇ£Show similarGÇ¥? You'd then be presented with the item list as normal, but with a slider on top that determines how similar things need to be. I am getting tired of having to deal with long lists of exactly the same items in my containers - several hundreds of the BPC from POS copying (since I can't maintain a POS all the time, I set it up and do thousands of copies and tear it down immediately after that) and from t2 BPCs invention.
so my wishes are -
1. implement stacking of BPC with the same parameters (runs, pe, me). this does not have to be system change, only display change - show several identical separate (unpackaged) items as a group. this should be displayed differently from the packaged stacked items to avoid confusion. 2. add list view columns for blueprints -- runs ('inf' for BPO), me, pe -- just like you can add 'meta lvl' column. Since its hard to select BPC for production - you need to check runs to make sure it's enough for the job. 3. Make it possible to see how many items you selected in the inventory (by holding shift + click) -- this may not be needed if stacking is implemented. otherwise I have to move selected to a new empty box to see how much items are there (in the title), which adds unneccessary server strain.
can't think of anything else right now ..
oh wait - inventory folders instead of containers would be nice but this probably counts as major system rewrite.
4. However, perhaps it's possible to create a special type of container - the 'rubber' container. It has no volume of its own (as long as it's empty) and has no limit on the amount or volume of items placed inside. However, all the items inside this container contribute to the volume of this container. this could be great improvement already! |

5. make item damage (crystals, ships, modules, ...) visible in the detailed list view. another column selectable just like 'meta level' right now.
6. When dragging stacked item into a regular container, the maximum amount is pre-filled into the amount input box. However, when dragging into the corporate hangar (f.ex. of an Orca), it is not, and you have to guess and add by small piles. Make it work like with regular containers. |

Nice thread.
- Make BPCs with same values(runs, ME, PE) stackable
- Add more columns:ME/PE/runs for BPCs, damage/health of items. Leave it blank for items which don't apply for the value type
- Let the player move columns for a particular item window(container/hangar), store it client side.
- Add total volume and count of all/selected items at the bottom of a window, especially in hangars very useful, add a small footer to every window.
- Introduce one extra level of "subfolders" for containers -> introduce containers without m-¦ bonus, right now I am using Industrial Ships to add this. Very painful.
- Renaming of containers in hangars at a POS(!!!)
- Reduce lag of moving things around, when I am doing this too fast, the last action is not performed(batch sync with server?)
- Search/Filter applies to contents in containers(Result may be presented as a tree), add a small magnifying glass left to the input field. I guess some people don't see it.
- Right align the number for the item count of stacks in "Icon" view mode
- Repackaging in hangars at POS
- Opening containers in hangars at POS
- Creating stacks of a given volume in m-¦
- When creating stacks of a certain amount, please show the total volume in m-¦ of the entered count while entering a number
- When in list view of a hangar/container it's hard to drop something into it while there are only containers visible. Add something like a drop symbol to make storing stuff more quickly. Or let the user decide by holding alt/ctrl to not store in the container under mouse arrow.
- Make stacking of items possible though the volume of a container is used up.
- Divions are nasty, they are named by something useful, for example: Ammo. Now why should I need an Ammo hangar in every POS module? Just let people make hangar tabs as many as they like(ah yes performance, say 10?) and let them rename them just for that particual hangar.
- Add the functionality to make a "package" of anything selected, like those in courier contracts. This would make it very very useful to store fits or add player's intention for "item groups". The player can rename it.
- Let packaged containers being stored in other containers.

When creating Remote Manufacturing/Science jobs in another system, make contents update immediately after successfully creating a job.
This is due to the following usage pattern:
I bring materials and BPC for production with my hauling alt into a station with some free slots, contract it all to the manufacturing alt (which is not neccessarily just the materials for this particular job) who is located in another system, then that alt creates the job and has to contract the remaining materials and BPC to the next manufacturing alt (since more slots are available) or back to the hauler alt.
When I am trying to do that, I can't since the game says the items is no longer there. This is because the inventory in another system is not updated .. well maybe it can be accelerated for this particular case (that is, after creating a job that takes stuff from the inventory). |

If you open an SMA in icon view, it can take over a minute to load if there are a large number of ships in it. During that loading you can't access any of the ships and the client is generally sluggish to respond.
The easy work-around is to click on list view, which loads almost instantaneously, then back to icon view. Oddly, I can access everything from icon view using that trick in less time than it would have taken the icon view to load if I didn't switch to list view, so I have no idea why icon view should take so long since it can clearly get that info within a second just by clicking list view. |

Being able to repackage a module when it's inside a container, while I'm docked.
I'll often have a container (3900 m3 GSC or a bit saller) for each of the PVE ships I used, with names like Drake and NH and Raven, and then I re-fit my ship for each mission, by fitting appropriate hardeners, and maybe some sensor modules or AB.
Even better, inventory hangar divisions, I mean on a personal basis. Something so that when I unfit a module from my CNR ship, it goes to the hangar division (or container) that I have specifically linked to that ship. Or, simpler, to the currently active hangar division.
Any of the above would greatly simplify and speed up re-fitting of PVE ships, and for all I know it might help PVP pilots as well.
I suspect it's not possible to repair a damaged module while it's in a container. I haven't tried this (I very rarely overheat), but if it isn't possible, then making that possible would also be very nice, especially for T3 pilots and PVP pilots.

I 've never had problems with stuff locking up in GSCs, but that might be because of my corp settings, or because as CEO I presumably have all rights.
But those Station Containers, or whatever they're called, the ones bigger than 3900 m3 but which do not "compress" contents. I stopped used them really quickly, because stuff often got locked in them. That was hugely annoying. Please fix that, so people can use them again.

A "search ALL" function for assets and corp assets (the corp function being limited by access)
I run 4 accounts and find it so annyoing to go looking for the modules or something that I picked up a couple days ago and its somewhere between 4 different toons assets multiple ships cargos multiple ships fittings corp hangers on orcas ships cargos on ships in corp hangers at stations multiple corporate hangers in cans inside / hangers / ships / corp hangers inside storage on labs/other structures on POS ETC ETC ETC . . .
If I OWN it i should be able to FIND it easily. ___________________________________
Aside from that - some form of shared assets for people with multiple accounts would be nice so that you are not constantly having to take the toon with the items back to give the item(s) to the other toon or setting up contracts remotely to give a ship or item to yourself. Maybe if you could just link assets from multiple toons on multiple accounts so they act as one. ___________________________________
Put a divider in ships cargo - either an extra division or just a split in the window so that you can separate the stuff thats part of your fitting (ammo, tags, booster, etc etc) from all the crap u pick up. Its amazing with a game where u spend so much time loading and unloading that you are forced to sort through your cargo every time you unload your ship. |

The inventory and contract system should have the ability to automatically split stacks. The lack of this ability has severely limited the good things that could have come from the copy contract functionality introduced a few patches ago.
Example: If I want to contract 100 ships, I should not have to hand split every single module stock into smaller piles just to copy. |

UI Lag: Sorting/Searching my hanger can cause very long pauses.
Contracts: Remember the last station i picked, instead of always using the current station. When creating a new contract from 0.0 space, i always have to load and search through the loooong list of stations. Remembering the previously used station would be very helpful
Multiple Ship Storage Bays: Are extremely annoying. Flying a carrier and having to manage every little pocket they have is very frustrating when you're doing a big move and trying to load/unload fast. Gotta check Fuel bay, then empty Cargo Hold, then empty Corporate Hanger, then empty Ship Maintenance Bay, and occasionally a drone bay also if you're moving fighters and/or drones Solution: Unified UI window, with tabs for each pocket. So i have a single window and can access all of these storages from it, accessable by the single Cargohold button beside the Capacitor HUD

1. A checkbox to suppress the "This container has x items" popup. I frequently make courier contracts with dozens of containers in them, and having to click accept on each of them is tres tedious. Additionally, there is a bug in the UI where if I tap enter too quickly it will be like I hit the "next" button on the contract again, and I will have to click through all of the container popups all over again. A "do not show this warning" box would be fantastisch.
2. Tinted Giant Secure Containers: This is something I mentioned a little while ago in features in discussion. The tldr; is that it would take very little effort to clone the GSC item and change the art to several different colors. These colorized containers would make sorting through hangar inventory much faster, much easier, and much more intuitive. At least, for those of us that can see colors. The ability to tint folders and files is a helpful feature of the OS X operating system, and its functionality could easily be reproduced to the benefit of color-receptive eve players everywhere. |

It's also very stupid and annoying when you try to repackage a station container and it tells you that you can't do it because the log is less than three weeks old. Fair enough, but why does the repackaging attempt have to go into the log? Now I have to wait for another three weeks just because I tried to repackage my station container one day too soon...

This.
Having a "View contents' like you can do with ships but for station cans and other asset management containers. It would allow all assets to be added to cans, reducing asset calling time and allowing us to micro transact what it is we want to see.
Oh and EVE is hands down, the the best inventory system MMO on the market. |
