make that three EVETVers that have answered your 'post'. i await ifni's words of colour-coded wisdom
poor handling? i dont understand
i have yet been able to view this - well there's a few people with this problem, it's mainly down to codec issues or similar, or you being a donkey (see me linking to my fellow stavros' asinine comment above?)
but the website says nothing about it being available at exclusive times - the website also doesn't state we'll be doing it in english only, or without the help of those cool 3D glasses you get with the blue and red lens. would you like us to do a 24/7 broadcast on the offchance you fix your scrapheap of a machine and manage to tune in?
Furthermore, its implied that we can watch old broadcasts. - where is this implication please? links to official statements would suffice.
Many more people tried to view this than just current eve players. - yes, like those who frequent the potty-mouthed PA forums. three threads and 30 pages later they seem to be able to a) view it and b) enjoy it
Its really shameful. - think of your mother, you're hurting her with your idiocy. now that's shameful
The eveonline website has never been well operated. - again, what? what do you mean? the eve website has never randomly dropped money into your bank account maybe? terrible. it does what it needs to do, and the one possible gripe would be a forum search issue, and that was filled in by the community, which fills me with hope that there's many people out there that don't cry about the fact that a professional broadcast is being provided free of charge

I feel that after the replies from my cohorts on EVETV, I should offer an explanation to your statement and criticism. Whilst you may feel that CCP is being poorly represent by EVETV, I can tell you that if this were the case, CCP would have changed what we are doing. We are amateurs at doing this, with limited experience at televisual broadcasts, so I can't understand why you feel the need to belittle what is essentially a groundbreaking event.
I believe that this is the first time that anything has been attempted of this magnitude, and we really are trying our best. You should also realise that this is the holiday period for alot of people at CCP, so half of the dev team aren't here. Indeed if you read another of the stickied threads at the top of this forum (here) you would realise that this has already been made public.
Whilst I wont use that as an excuse for your perceived flaws in the produciotn of EVETV, I will offer a rebuttal: patience is a virtue. As far as I know, the high resolution recordings of the tournament will be made available for download, probably via Bittorrent, at a later date. We have been recording over 100 GB of footage a day, which is more than we were expecting. It takes time to sync the audio, and then subsequently compress the 6 and a half hours of footage per day. So yes, whilst it would be nice to have the videos available for download instantly, it simply isn't feasible.
The website states that fights will be commencing at 1450 GMT, and the one day that is listed shows fights finishing at 2020 GMT. I'm a little unsure what other footage we could show for the remaining 18-odd hours of the day.
Indeed there are more than just EVE players wanting to watch. The rumour I have heard, and note this is nothing more than a rumour, is that the GM's have received alot more enquiries about reactivating old accounts, and the number of trial keys being requested has risen 8 fold. After being slashdotted, the servers took a beating and honestly we weren't expecitng that to happen. You can't plan for every outcome, and this is indeed why Urban is here; to solve these problems as they occur. In this case he laid on several new servers to try and reduce the buffering issues.
I can't deny that the website has not been updated, and I will see if there is anyone I can offer my services to to get the site updated. But however, poking holes in things that aren't really related to EVETV, such as the state of the website in the past is irrelevant.
I hope I've answered your questions, and "stepped up". Now that you know, perhaps you can understand just how demoralising it is to hear people picking holes in what we're doing. We are trying our best in a truly unique event, perhaps you can step up and give us some slack.
It's your turn to die. |

eh?
I do believe it is all very clear. it states that it will be airing between 14:50 and 21:00 between friday and sunday the 14th to 16th and 21st to 23rd.
It also tells you to stop complaining and realise you lose at life.
On a happier note, we are in the top 10 internet broadcasts of all time, so some people seem to think we're doing a good job.

Yes you can
Originally by: Imhotep Khem Many more people tried to view this than just current eve players. Its really shameful. The eveonline website has never been well operated.
Why is it shameful exactly? And why is the website badly operated? I've got no complaints about it
Originally by: Imhotep Khem CCP needs to step up. No excuses.
And a few points about why exactly we are not broadcasting mid-week.
1) The equipment hire company has taken their cameras back for another shoot that they have been booked to do. (Don't worry we will have them back by Friday.) You don't think CCP owns 3 high quality broadcast TV cameras do you?
2) I am in the process of completly redesigning the layout of the servers to make sure that we can cope with the expected numbers of viewers. This was an experiment and we have got far more people viewing than even our wildest predictions and as such my job for the first 3 days has basically been firefighting. The changes I am making should give us a lot better scalability.
3) I am also redesigning the way people connect to the servers so I can react much more quickly to load balancing issues.
4) Finally, We are a very small team here (behind the cameras EVE TV is only 4 people - The live TV broadcast which my sister is currently working on for the BBC is over 200 people, and its only going to be on the air for 4 hours) and frankly we need to sleep and recharge our batteries.
5) I am also looking to upgrade the encoding/streaming PC before friday so we can have the lower bitrate stream as well.
So I'm sorry that you think this sucks so bad Imhotep Khem, prehaps we should refund the money we changed you for viewing the event
oh wait............ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your kind words
Yes we are looking into solutions to get everything a bit clearer. As with every webcast, we have to make sacrifices in quality to package it in a bitrate that people will be able to view in real time. There really aren't any easy solutions here but that doesn't stop us looking. Still the high bandwidth version will look fantastic when they are ready.

i loved it cant wait till friday
that said...
found this in another thread, thats the best idea ever :
Finally the camera men should set some sort of standings to the teams so we can see say 5 red and 5 blue dots of some sort ... this will give a far better insight in whats happening...
maybe with tactical overlay sometimes, so we see where the teams heading, get into position
and make the arena brighter (thats my grip =)

I love EVETV. I've got three of my friends who donÆt play EVE to watch a fight and they got addicted and watched the entire broadcast.
This is a test guys so accept it for what it is. Nothing will be fantastic at first but for how and what they are doing they're doing a bloody good job!
Also I like Stav and Ifni commenting on it; it gives a nice touch and breaks up the matches. Also its an added bonus this is only on Friday to Sunday as thatÆs when most people have finished work and can relax by watching the fights .ect
Hell i even got my local net cafe to show it everyday, all day on their projector screen. Hope it caused more interest and I hope EVETV causes such a commotion that you can do daily broadcasts on the events that are happening in eve maybe with a news broadcast on alliances?

Already been thought about, We just dont have enough time to do that for all players at the moment and for various client related issues we cant do it beforehand. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope EVE TV turns into something that stays. Imagine the potential of weekly broadcasts, interviews with corp / alliance leaders, etc... There could be war reports from the different regions of EVE, a weekly forum wrap-up show that details the most scandalous alt posts of the week!
There could be an EVE version of "Crossfire" where they linked into a common TS and let people like Xirtam and DBPreacher yell at each other. It would have a lot of those annoying *beeps* in it, but think of the fun!
This kind of interactivity in an online community is too rare for just a one time event. I would love to see it improve and grow into something that becomes very much a part of the day to day EVE Community. -

Yeah I agree. The show made Eve feel like more than a game, and thats something really special. People weekly discussing pvp tactics, alliances or whatever would be a fantastic addition to this game. I would be willing to pay extra for it too.

If you read my post above (http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=364519&page=14#405), you will see that I say that we are currently encoding the streams we recorded.

great work from all who are making it possible i`ve enjoyed the last 2 days and can`t wait for the next rounds to start
as for the commentators, ur doing great, but try to keep up with ships that go b00m while discussing pizza
to all the alliances, great fights, nice suprises now and then turning the advantages and beat the crap out of the opponent for who didn`t make it, i think it`s safe to say that u won in the viewers eyes with being there
looking forward to watch the next rounds and not be kicked for being so many hours unproductive

Although I still fail to believe it was passively tanked, the Vulture in question was flown by ISS against MC. According to my combat log, it took us 4:28 to kill the first four ISS ships and then an additional 8:36 to down just the Vulture. We were shooting it with a CNR, a Cerb and a Vulture of our own.
For those who do not know, a properly set up Vulture's lowest resist is around 80-82% on EM. Its highest resist is around 94% to thermal. The percentages are also misleading in terms of how much damage is actually inflicted. In testing against our own Vulture, my Paradise (EM) Cruises hit for around 130 damage, whereas a Cataclysn (Therm) Cruise will hit for about 27 points of damage.
As has been said many times during this tournament, Command Ships are rocks. -

I do know what a passive shield tank is, but being put on the spot like that was a little sudden. I also had our time caller waving at me in the background, but obviously couldn't take my eyes off the host to see if that meant we had to suddenly switch to another stream, or if we had another 5 minutes of time. So yes, I did balls it up. But no, I do know what a passive tank is.
