Originally by: Audrea Finally to conclude with a RL analogy (I like them, even though some call them dumb etc, whatever): During the Cold War, whenever either side was about to gain a critical edge over the other side (eg the Cuba crisis), the other side (seeing as they are about to loose) would not have hesistated using Nuclear weapons, if all other options are exhausted, in order to deprive the opponent from victory, and in essence, making their victory, taste as bitter, as a defeat.
What that means? -if the world leaders were, and still are, willing to go to those extremes, its only natural the regular human behind the loosing character ingame, will also do whatever he can to prevent his enemies the sweet victory :)
Actually, to go into your RL anology. The chances of the two world powers actually deploying their tactical nuclear weapons are very close to 0. The thing is, and everyone with some political education know this, that as soon as you use the stick you are threatening with, the stick loses all of it's power.
So in short, to be able to exploit the power nukes give, you need to not use them. Because the moment you use them, you give up rationality and thus the power you derive from them decreases. :)
It's an actual strategy employed by the current US government too. Let the rest of the world think that certain countries have regimes that are crazy enough to use these weapons, although it's in their best interest not to, so that we all rally to remove these weapons (whether or not they exist) from those countries. -

If the server thinks the client is taking too long to respond, be it due to lag or a disconnection you ship will perform an emergency warp, it will automatically warp off in a random direction approximately 1 million km away. If it was thanks to lag, once your client catches up you may actually find yourself at that spot, but if it was due to a disconnection, when you reconnect you'll start to warp back to the approximate location where you disconnected from.
From the point of view of other pilots, you'll decloak (if cloaked), and just appear to warp off, but be untargetable during this process.
Which is fine when its due to honest and unavoidable causes, but is an issue when such is generated artificially as a tactic.

Edited by: Zafon on 27/10/2006 11:52:34 True, but it makes it more difficult / time consuming which gives others more time to aggress etc. Those couple of seconds could make a lot of difference - it wouldn't be as risk free as it is now.
Bottom line is that whilst the proposal isn't a perfect solution it does improve the situation and has no downside that I can think of.
Edit: Forgot to quote - this is referring to my "remove ctrl-q" post on page 2.

As for intentionally crashing the node...well we would love it if the thing didnt go down every time our fleet comes to defend. What option do we have but to try to jump in as many pilots as we can?
Last night in JLO was another example, we jumped in outnumbered and 1 minute into the fight it went down again. When it came up we did indeed hold the gate, but the entire opposing force(except about two poor sods who logged in to the gate) failed to even attempt to log back in. This war is a matter of pride now, for better or worse both sides feel that way. And no amount of preaching about "fairness" and "integrity" is ever going to convince either to stop using these tactics. That bridge has been burned already...if it ever existed in the first place.

Bulls*t. What you did in C-J6 couple of days back and in JLO yesterday was: 60-80 ppl from your support are jumping into hostile camp, node crashes, everyone in the system crashes and at the same time your BS fleet and dictor wait for node to crash and AFTER THAT you are jumping in from another system and hold the gate and wait for poor buggers to log back IN and get shot by you. Have to admit it was very smart idea.
No nync, in c-j our BS jumped in BEFORE the node crash. We cant help it that you guys are slow to log in, and you cant jump into a system where the node crashed. You have to wait until it restarts before anything loads, same with the guys that already were in the system. And i dont know what happened in JLO.

I got to agree to 100% with the op.
This is a big problem, and ppl accept it?, Logg off to save ur ship is never acceptble.
I grow up with the LOGG IS BAD, Logg and ur ebil ceo will kick ur butt.
Big pvp alliances use this trick on a dayly basic this days. Industrial alliance just aswhell :/. I seen haulers logg off to save their ships, And when u convo the ceo about it, they tell u becouse i shoot them they have the right to it.....
CCP Really need to fix this. Just add that ur ship will get a agression timmer / logged or not. And it schould be easly done.
Becouse its the Nr 1. Destroyer off my eve feeling atleast...

Firstly we SPLIT our fleet of 80 to 40/40 which would jump in on both gates to not create the immense lag in one spot of the solar system and we presumed GOON would go to only 1 gate to cover that one at least. they did so and -V- jumped thought the 6-3 gate and LV through the 03- gate to join the fight later on when already 20 people are down and are in a tactically superior position. I had a covert close the the BS gang 150 top of gate for LV to *****the GOON BS/thanatos. This whole fight would've gone so bad for you without the node crash that it wasn't planned at all, so stop accusing us for using whatever things to crash nodes, while we actually tried to avoid it and without nodecrash the situation would've been superior for us.

WILL YOU sTOP DRAGGING SITUATIONS DESCRIBING WHO YOU FOUGHT IN THAT FIGHT????
QUESTION is simple.
Is it OK for ship to warp out of the sphere or while having points on it....NO MATTER IF YOU LOSE CONNECTION, PRESS CTRL-Q, WITH TASK MANAGER, OR any other way what so ever??
IT IS NOT NORMAL that MODULES and items in game dont DO WHAT THEY ARE made for (spheres, scrams, etc).
We all having problems sometimes with server, connection or our PC.
CAN YOU LIVE wioth your losses or not?.
I can....and if that mean that i lose all my ships in order for this game to run as it suppose...then be it.
Tbh, all those that try to make warp out look good....are to selfish and thinking only on their own a.s.s. and not caring for game at all

Lets please keep the alliance smack out of this m'kay? Since I've personally witnessed BoB members log out to escape an interdiction sphere right in front of me not 3 days ago, then have a buddy watch the gate from 500km till I left and then his buddy logged right back in.
So enough with the finger pointing, its a problem that is prevalent throught the game, including many members of pretty much every large alliance (yes, this includes YOURS, yes I can give names if you need) and many people who aren't in alliances.
Also, I think this is more about logging to gain an advantage in the game. Logging in structure does not do this (not that I'd do it). I think thats just people trying to save their pod who have slow computers, so cant click warp to object after ship explodes, thus they're nullifying a disadvantage (it's still quite borderline). But the point of this thread as I understand it is clearly using game mechanics as they werent intended to gain an advantage (logging out of bubbles, crashing nodes, purposely creating lag, etc).
So lets stick to the point that this happens, peer pressure doesnt stop it, game mechanics dont stop it, GMs dont stop it (I petitioned the first time someone did this on me, and was basically told too bad), and it needs to be stopped.

Originally by: KIAEddZ Having been in 0.0 for the last 3 contracts, I have seen a worrying trend developing.
It would seem it is completely normal now to CTRL Q to avoid bubble camps.... I mean it is actually the chosen tactic!
I have seen LV/V do it a few times already over the past few days, and the order was given last night for Goons/RA etc to do it if they jump into a bubble....
I see that LV/V have also joined the Logoff trap brigade... is it so that because RA openly do it you feel you need to use it to combat that approach?
Also Purposely crashing (or hoping like fk that it happens) the Node is also now a viable tactic, employed by both sides of the war KIA are currently in... damn guys why on earth are we trying to do that? yes you gain an advantage if you just jumped in but serioulsy :( (for those that don't know after a node crash everyone is returned to thier last point of a session change, so a large force jumping in will be returned to the gate they jumped in at, and unless the defending force have prepared for it, then thier pilots will be returned all over the shop, normally resulting in big losses)
I was speaking to a few other CEOs and Alliance leaders last night, and they also say that they have not only seen the above from their current enemy, but are also not shy to order it if necessary.
This has honestly and sincerely saddened me.
For people to be embracing en masse obvious exploiting of the games shortcomings (although why CCP are avoiding dealing with them I have no idea.... if someone logs of in a bubble, then they should stay put for crying out loud) makes me wander where this game is going.
In all my time of playing Eve, the larger groups have generally frowned upon the shadier way of playing the game, logging off to save your ships etc has always been a distinct no no, as have many other less fair ways to play.
Maybe i am seeing the past through rose tinted glasses, maybe my memory is skewed, but not too long ago people employing such tactics as these would be regarded as a.scum (hehe, joking) but more importantly b.the minority
Not anymore it seems.
What for the future of Eve, if people will push the game and its mechanics to the very limit to gain an advantage....... reminds me so very much of the days gone by in the FPS world, starts with model replacements then bright coloured models, textureless walls, hit box scanning.... aimbots.... etc etc
Hope CCP have this in mind, whilst I am very excited about Kali, I cant help but feel their are some very basic problems that need looking at first, its getting harder and harder to get a "fair" fight or even a fight where your not worried about wtf your gonna have to do to avoid losing your entire fleet to a tactic your not willing to employ yourself....
Times have changed? Do we all need to adapt? I hope not.
In the last description about your syndicate campaing with goons you wrote about your respect for them(very much enjoyed your tale btw).
Now you are working with them again, but in doing so working with #1 (RA) in bug exploits + goons who surely match them (especially when it comes to crashing nodes) Sit in Posses deploying drones at the same time trying to crash cap ships, copying BMS in engagements among others are all 100% verified goon tatics.
Maybe if you care so much for the state of the morals in the game you should consider who you accept contracts from.

As for me, i already stated, that if CCP allowing this tactic - i`m ok with use of it. At least i`m not hypocrite, screaming "omg, exploiters, cheaters", while ordering to entire alliance to get bookmarks in cargohold to crash node, logging out 8 of 11 freighters to get them from interdictor bubble, and logging off to save pod, while my alliance leader stated that "my alliance consist only of knights in shiny armors on white horses".
Logging off to save a pod - is like masturbating. Everybody did that in the past, but everyone preffer to decline that fact.

I agree to this. If someone jumps into a bubble and crashes, bad luck. It would be just another risk like the risk to crash mid-combat. No reason to let people get away out of bubbles by logging off, which is the usual case. Bubbles only work in 0.0 anyway and the people, who live there, should be able to live with that risk.

I now begin to see how you can post all the garbage you post on the forums, you are totally clueless and ignorant of what is going on around you and your alliance/allies. You make up scenarios of what happened, without any knowledge of what actually went on. Your incoherent babble and smacktalk is so far fetched that even your allies must be embarresed. The way you write up your wild interpretations of what is going on is deeply worrying, and if you feed that to your alliance and they believe it, it explains quite alot of the propaganda sprewed by RA and friends.

someone said somewhere that its like CCP are playing different game these days. i have to agree with that, Kali is nice but ultimately not what majority of players really want (except WCS nerf and standings in local).
EVE aint the nice sadbox that it was 2 years ago, now its more like common multiplayer game where everyone just pursues his own wallet and K/D ratio, the problem aint only player base the problem is also that CCP has too much in their hands and they have forgotten why EVE is/was good game.
Its like mother (CCP) that has taken 3 jobs and doesnt have time anymore to listen what her child (eve players) has to say.
result: child suffers first, after certain time child says FU and leaves resulting mother to suffer.

I was proud to be part of Huzzah. We lost our systems and stations to someone who had bigger guns, bigger ships and better tactics THAT WON.
We protested vainly at their tactics but those tactics were deemed legal by CCP.
So, logoffski, CTL+Q, is now the norm. No remorse or regrets. Get with the program, or lose your home to those that do!!

Unfortunately, ctrl+q seems to be a lot like warp core stabs were months and months ago - every alliance/corporation leader denied that his alliance/corporation used them at all, and then proceeded to blame whoever they were currently for using at least two or three on every ship.
The solution, until CCP figures something out, starts with the players. CEOs should not tolerate ctrl+qing from players, but they first need to stop denying that it happens.
That assumes, however, that the CEO/Alliance cares whether a player ctrl+qs or not. I know Red Alliance doesn't care, and I think Goonfleet don't care just because they ****ing people off.

I agree. I see friends and enemies do it, I hear it commanded on vent, and it's saddening. I can only hope CCPsee fit to stop this sooner rather than later

Firstly don't bless me with your "I used to hold you in high regard" bull****, you have always followed my posts round making various stabs at KIA and my pilots.
Secondly I can confirm 100% that in my time in RA space (3 days) I have personally SEEN LV/V fleets using the log off trick to escape bubbles. I am many things, but I am no liar.
Thirdly, if my employer wishes to retract the contract for anything I ever say on these forums, then I have no problems. I think RA/GF are equally as low for endorsing these tactics as your alliance is, to me its a step too far, and no matter who is doing it its fkin lame.
I suggest you either know damn well your alliance now endorses these shady tactics, or your not even playing the bloody game. Either way I suggest you shut up for your making yourself look dumb, and your alliance deserves a lot better than you as some sort of spokesman.
If you want proof, there is NO END of fraps flying around... I am sure i can ask some peeps to get some of it to me.
