What Eve needs the most is environmental sounds. Turn off music, leave sound on and see what I mean. Just flying around most of the time the game is completely quiet except for warping and weapon sounds.
Environmental sounds are what creates most of the athmosphere. Eve doesn't have any. Big minus right there.

I love the sounds in eve. Its good, I love the sound of warp and the BOOM it makes as you hit warp. I like all the sounds in the game just wish there were more in the way of music. My only gripe is I have to turn it down for teamspeak, so hopefully the in game voip will manage it better!

yay for necromancy! Sound in eve is generated in a way that is slow when many sounds are generated at the same time, for example when all the rats in a deadspace pocket shoot thoot their missiles at you. This lags the client out. Thats one side of the sound problem The sounds are weak mostly, except for the warp sound which to many people is too powerfull (ROOOOOAAARRR!!) Thats another side Many things which should be accompanied with sounds aren't, such as being hit by gunfire, being targetted or warpscrambled, etcetera. That's my pet peeve with EvE However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

A better sound immersion would be a great idea. We all know the developers have a lot to do so would it be a good idea for the community to provide sound file packs which connect to different events? Same as skinning in a fps shooter. Maybe add an importer to double check if the sound files are valid and do not upset the client. I'm sure people come up with interesting packs. (Star-Wars pack, Star-Trek pack, Monty Python pack, custom alliance pack etc.)
As for the Music, I'm one of those players who switched off the music pretty quickly. I'm pretty certain I never listened to the complete score but I remember it was pretty boring. As for a game which is switched on for hours/days and is played for years it's pretty difficult to amuse all people's music preferences. So until the CCP developers are REALLY bored they shouldn't touch the music. :)
The Kingdom has started, don't miss your chance to be part of it.

It might be necromancy, but /signed!
Providing they sort out the bugs caused by having sound turned on first, of course.

I'd still like my own choice of sounds in there, as sound is artifically created to 'help' the pilot I'd rather go for a submariner feel than the current, the additional sound would be distant thumping from remote heavy fighting inside a certain radius and then near complete silence aside from the creaking of the hull if your ship is damaged.

I totaly agree with this topic. After playing 4 years (from beta 3) and never had the sound on because it was poor sound, no good surround effects and it lags the system when you have more then 5 ships at the same spot. Tried sounds on with the patch Revelation 1, but my system didnt like it and made the client crash every minute
Anyway, I would love to see that the sound in EVE would work better. It adds a lot more dimension to it and have a better feeling of the game. A nice feature would be regional-soundtrack and in-station music or background environment sounds.
The sound update for weapons would be cool, but I would like to see a better sound system in EVE that runs it better so people can use the "sound on" button.
At the moment I will stick to no sound at all and just listen to internet music streaming via Winamp

Oveur, the solution is simple. fmod
I've been using it for years and it's lightwieght, fast and efficient. You can use it free until you release it too.
Also, stop using OGG/MP3 for music and SFX. If it's a download issue, go ahead and compress the SFX/music, but once DLed to the user, uncompress those suckers into wav files. I'd trade drive space for zero client lag. Nothing worse than trying to play MP3s on an already loaded CPU.
fmod is easy to implement. I can add it to an existing program in just a few hours, followed by a day or two of testing to make sure I didn't put a } when I should have put a ;. :P
From there, it's just a matter of overhauling the SFX and music. Hope that helps. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Yeah sound needs some love.
I am still convinced there is a siren played when you get hit by a missile. I've yet to capture it though.
How about a "You are warp scrambled" warning sound... like the ones on aeroplanes "pull up, warning, pull up, terrain alert"

Its been some time since i've actually had the sound switch on simply due to the lag it causes.
I'd love to hear the sound again without any adverse effects on my game. Nothing better the the whiplash sounds of mega pulse lasers.
fix the sound/lag issues and upgrade sound effects to 5.1 and uber awesomeness please. Bones heal and chicks dig scars

Please do not bump near 2 month old threads.
Necromancy is bad for Eve.
Thank you.
