Nice to finally hear from you Oveur.
Be sure to read the suggestions in this thread, especially mine. ^_^
Any timeframe on this sound overhaul project?
Will it make it into Kali?
Upgrading the graphics and the sound at the same time makes a lot of sense. If I saw pretty new ships, great weapon effects, and great sound effects and ambient music to go with them, that would be the biggest improvement to EvE that you could do.
Be sure to include some of those remixes from fanfest. ^_^
Oh, and consider using text to speech engines for Aura. Then she could say anything without having to re-record all that audio. She is a computer voice after all, it would sound more natural. You could even have her say all those crazy waiting lines like: "Going out to find a bush. You should find this bush in about 15 seconds." Adding walking in stations? How cool would it be to have the agent actually talk to you using a text to speech engine. Don't have voice coms? Choose a voice for your character, and customize the tone, pitch, and speed. Visit www.cepstral.com for examples of some great text-to-speech engines out there.
Oh, and good job on the Kali1 Patch. How many cases of beer did you have to sacrifice to keep Mr. Murphy away? ___________________________________________________ "I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker!" - Scotty, Star Trek: The Original Series |

YAY New music! Now what types of music there will be here is my Two Cents.
Amarr Space would have a type of music similar to the Empires theme from Star Wars. They are an Empire and they value sheer Firepower and Armor above all else.
Caldari Space would have a Techno type of music. Caldari are technolagicly advanced and like to use missiles and Shields with a fair dose of Railguns and speed on the side.
Galantine Space would have an Artsy Classiclesk type of Music along the lines of Requiem for a Dream. Here is that song to get an Idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWnJzNbOThg
Minmatar Space will have music like Rock and Roll. They are speed deamons and use pounding guns.
As to sound. The effects would need to be correct for different ships. Frigates would need a high piched whine. Cruisers would need a Roar in which you can hear a turbine. Like when the Star Destroyer was taking off in Star Wars Episode Three.
Battle Ships would have a shound that still contained the turbine noise but far deeper. Anything bigger has a lowpitched rumble. The sound effects of the guns in my mind would be lick this. Lasers would have a high pitched burst for Pulse lasers and a longer duration for Beam Lasers. Not like the one they make now but something like when a LAser fires in Star Wars. The Blaster makes a short charging type noise as the cyclotron works the plasma in the ammo and then a short boom when it fires. Railsguns would make a Quick High pitched noise similar but subtle. Then guns obviosly would Boom when they fire. The Autocannon would make short machiengun type burst something like what it sounds like now only crisper and deeper. Missile would have the launch noise toned down a little bit and that would work.

I am interested.
It would be easiest for you to contact me here as well as hear my main audio alchemy, www.myspace.com/northernsector. Please send me your requirements and a general idea of your aesthetic and artisan needs. I have the experience and capabilities to achieve your vision. However, I am currently an EVE addict, it may be best to catch me in game.
cheers.

Am i mistaken if you meant that ironically?
Yes, I mean it as I wrote it. The sound engine does that for four years now. Every content patch there are a couple of new or changed sounds that cause the same problem again.
Many pilots do not encounter those problems because they disable the sound in EVE quickly when they or their buddies get hit by that feature - or the massive performance loss the sound engine causes.
P.S.: I think Oveur means they need someone who designs and programs the engine twice: Once for Vista, once for for a normal driver model. The ccp sound designers are already living in Reykjavik. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

boo yah. I've long wanted a music improvement upon Eve! hopefully it can come soon! And it can never come too soon as well! Props to Amarria Lightwielder for starting this thread in such an intelligent and constructive way, as well as keeping the thread on topic and providing constructive feedback on certain comments! masterfully done and I'm extremely excited to see what happens! _______________________________________________

Although I know many people who have turned it off I prefer to play with sound on, too. Some more variety would be very nice, especially while in space. The stations how their own racial theme, but the space sounds are all indetical. Makes the enviroment IMO too genereric.

Actually, they already have a sound effects editor and composer onboard, this realX dude whose name keeps poppingup. What is really needed, as indicated by Oveur's small post, is a competent programmer to overhaul the code that generates the sounds. The current sound engine is slow, buggy, laggy and sounds horrible. Oh yes. It needs to go.

And now something completly different: Thinking on a technical level, I propose to implement a sound system that is capable of real-time sound modification. Meaning, the hull of your ship should be an 'effect' that modifies the sound of your guns and engines. So that same 75mm railgun would sound different when mounted on a tiny frig (high frequencies, very direct) or on some big battleship (almost no high freqs, muffled sound). When the hull takes damge, the hull effect should be modified, e.g. by added strategic band-passes (sounds 'pinch' through, unnerving) and echos/hall on the low freqs (hull is vibrating). Hits on your ship should be modified according to hitting shield, armor or hull (shield=soft, armor=semi-hard, hull=metallic hard), and these modifications should change with the remaining HPs.
BTW: There are not that many sentences the on-board computer speaks. Why not record them with a couple of voice actors, so each race could have its own computer voice?
And please add "jumping now" for the manual jump gate activation. It disorients me every time I use a gate manually as I'm that used to the autopilot's announcement.

Seems they no longer do that, less my stuff is zee brokened somehow.

Can't agree with anyone more. EvE needs a sound update and should utilize EAX. Also, more bass and drama would be good too.
And yeah, I know this is an old thread. But hey, I at least did a search!

Originally by: schurem Its not just about esthethics, or immersion. Sound is a very important source of tactical information in almost any millitary vehicle made since the mid 20th century. Our ships should beep and whoop to tell us about the tactical environments they're in.
Absolutely. I've just been reminded of that because my new sound card isn't rendering cruise launchers very well - or at least they are now too quiet. As a result I have to look at my ship to determine when a round has fired so that I can switch targets. I think my ears are retraining to hear the fainter sound but it proves a point.
Another option not currently present would be to change the sound of incoming ordnance based on the strength of your shield or armour.
Or weapon/module sounds start to stutter as the capacitor level drops. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
